I am not at all a fan of Zombies directorial take on this iconic charecter and story. However, he sets out to do what all directors fail to do when doing a remake. However, he sets out to do what all directors fail to do when doing a remake. Remakes are a reimagination of a classic storyline. We as audience members hate the idea of remakes because ultimatly it turns to be corny because they bite off of past films using iconic quotes etc. What Zombie does is he changes the format here, he pushes the envelope and creates a whole new list of stakes for all the charecters and his reimagination completly takes over, this agravates a lot of people. Zombie's aartistry in regards to brining gore back to the screen is rather refreshing and orginal... again i do not like his vision of this story and charecters but he pushes buttons and gets people talking and well isnt that what theater and film is all about ... leaving the space talking? Kudos to Zombie for a job well done ... very original and cutting edge! Expand

Rob Zombie seems to have stolen elements from every Halloween movie to make the crap that is Halloween II (2009). I wonder if Dimension Films will give me back the 101 minutes of my life I wasted sitting in the movie theater.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my opinion, Halloween II (2009) has a great story that begins like the original Halloween II (1981) and then becomes its own story. Laurie is now a recovering and to me, likable character who becomes crazier throughout the film, but is maintaining herself. I think it makes her a stronger character who I can just root for. Loomis is a douche who struggles and Malcolm McDowell's acting makes this character more intriguing. The Brackett's are more developed and are amazing to me. The supporting characters aren't as well developed, but are enjoyable like Mya and Harley (Laurie's new friends). The hallucination scenes got a bit out of control, but I found them interesting. The violence is amazing, people should stop complaining about violence in this film, it's ridiculous. The ending is one of my favorite parts, with Loomis' death from Michael causing his brain exposed (irony I guess) and Laurie killing Michael and staying alive which I enjoy. It also opened up opportunities for sequels, and this film made me want a Halloween 3 remake. Overall, this film is pretty good and interesting to me.
Turns out, I was actually complaining about the Director's Cut of this film (3.5/10 for me). This review talks about the Theatrical Cut (the cut I like). The Director's Cut to me sucks with Laurie and Loomis being awful people, and the ending being a disappointment with Loomis' and Michael's deaths being lame (plus Michael says "Die!") and not being special, and Laurie being shot by the police, killing her. The Director's Cut's ending annoys me (also, it tries to cram the Halloween remakes in a nutshell and make them vanish), and let me down as opposed to the Theatrical Cut's ending.

The action is all a blur due to hand held jittery close-up's. The suspense and fright of Carpenter's original is totally missing here, despite (and maybe because of) the constant intensity. There's a good funny moment with Weird Al and a good inside joke with McDowell. Expand

To this day it's still one of the freakiest films personally seen and introduced the world to one of horror's most iconic villainous characters Michael Myers.

Its numerous sequels were wildly variable, with 'Halloween H20' being the only above decent one for me (the fourth one was also watchable but not much more) and 'Halloween: Resurrection' being proof that the series shouldn't have been resurrected and that it should have ended at 'H20', a perfect place to stop. Something that was further felt in Rob Zombie's awful first 'Halloween' outing from 2007. His second 'Halloween' film, this one, is even worse and even more pointless than its predecessor.

The only real good thing here is the make-up which is pretty good. Brad Dourif comes off best in the acting department and does his best but he deserves better and has been better too.

Everything else fails...and not just by a little. Catastrophically. The rest of the acting is scarier than Michael Myers himself (at his least creepy here) in how bad it is. Scout Taylor-Compton, in an embarrassingly appalling career-killing performance, and Sheri Moon Zombie, who should be nowhere near in front of a film camera, are especially bad. The film also brings the worst out of Malcolm McDowell, actually a good actor wasted in a very poorly written and used role.

All the characters are bland, annoying or both, nobody is remotely likeable here or worth rooting for (even those intended to be) and the dialogue down there with the worst of SyFy and The Asylum, and worse. The production values are too gimmicky, Zombie continually seems to think taking a self-indulgent smug approach to his directing is being cool and the music is constantly at odds with the mood and the action, nothing atmospheric or appealing here and more outdated attempts at being cool.

Overused and a vast majority of the time gratuitous expletives, artificial gore and sickeningly brutal violence completely get in the way of a coherent or engaging story, that's instead paper-thin, unintentionally silly, nonsensical, dull and contrived. As well as tension, suspense, chills or terror (none in sight). The whole Deborah and white horse stuff was not needed, felt completely misplaced and just added absurdity to the story, while the ending is as slap in the face a joke as it comes.

In summary, awful and had no point to it whatsoever. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Old-school Some of the atmospheric visuals in this movie are amazing. Random shots of the moon shining behind tangled tree branches are gorgeous even when the rest of the film is shot in a style intended to make it look grainy and muddy. Old-school fans should know that Michael is completely reinvented in this one: Eating dogs, stabbing each person wayyy more times than are necessary, and grunting his way through each killing. But if you accept the fact that it's meant to be A)different than the originals, and B)different than the 2007 remake, then you won't really be too shocked when you realize half the film is dream sequences. One more thing: If you're confused after it's over, research "Folie a Deux." No, not the Fall Out Boy album. That oughta clear some things up. Expand

Joe Pesci, of course, in Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas", stabbing a "made man" in the car trunk with his mother's cutlery. A film about gangsters, the mafia, needs to show how such men conduct their business. It's not gratuitous; it's what they do, kill. Among films of recent vintage, the alleged Zodiac Killer in David Fincher's "Zodiac" deserves special mention. He stabs a young couple, shockingly, in daylight, on a seemingly perfect day. It's not gratuitous, it's historical, and Hitchcockian, to boot. The stabbing in "Halloween 2", while not altogether graphic, becomes so, as the implied violence of Michael Myers(Tyler Mane) upon the nurse feels graphic, because the filmmaker's intent feels inhumane. By my count, Michael stabs the nurse thirteen times. That's a lot of fluid he leaves behind on her mutilated body. He humiliates her; it's "bukkake" with blood. For this filmmaker, death by strangulation is what passes for subtlety, and perhaps, more disturbingly, humanity. Lucky for Laurie's friend, Michael kills her before she gets naked; before she gets stabbed while doing, "it". Unlucky for the moviegoer, her partner had to pee first. The stripper, on the other hand, had no such luck, no time to put on a blouse. While fully disclothed(topless, but not full-frontal), in arguably, the film's ugliest scene(the one with the dog is a close second), Michael bashes her face, repeatedly(by my count, six times), into a mirror. (sigh) Some people find this entertaining. (sigh) Not only is "Halloween 2" violent, the film also lacks narrative credibility. In a crucial plot point, Laurie's epiphany, which is set up as the film's emotional high point, seems downright laughable, due to the circumstances. Laurie(Scout Taylor-Compton) lives in a relatively small-town; she should know what the film contends she doesn't. Expand

The problem is that This movie was definitely a major letdown after his Halloween remake. He seems intent on making a statement about modern society (psychiatry, the media, family, etc.) which in and of itself is laudable for a horror movie. The problem is that the "horror" aspect is somehow lost in this maze of psuedo-morals which are made laughable by his excessive depictions of gore. One almost wonders if Zombie laughs in disdain at his audience and views them with as much respect as he does pop psychiatrists who profit from others' pain, much like the Loomis he portrays in the film. I truly hope that this film was simply a bump in the road for someone who appeared to love and respect the horror genre. Perhaps it's time for Rob to stop emulating (trashy B horror, Italian Horror films of the 70's, slasher films, etc.) and begin creating a vision completely his own. His last film in the Halloween franchise should be a step in that direction...but only time and his next film will tell. Expand

It had its flaws but then again you are watching a halloween movie not saving private ryan so obviously it will have its flaws. The story was a bit strange and hard to follow at parts but it still was and interesting a fresh approach to this classic franchaise. And Zombie adding this new approach is much better in my opinion then just redoing the original series. And for the whole michael grunting when killing people, well watch the original he grunts he's not completely silent throughout the film and lets be realistic here you think that a person who is 6 foot 9 will be like a ghost when he kills no he will be more brute like in his killings. All in all this movie wasn't as bad as everyone tinks and it is a good way to spend a hour and 45 minutes of your day. Expand

I didn't find this movie to be bad, but I expected a lot more. Actors really bad, but at least the movie manages to deliver what it was meant to deliver: Boobs and gore. I'll give it a 7, because it could have been much better.

I really had high hopes for this film. There are many good ideas present, such as the interesting directions the characters turn in the aftermath from the first film (with the exception of Loomis... they raped him.) The visual style is top I really had high hopes for this film. There are many good ideas present, such as the interesting directions the characters turn in the aftermath from the first film (with the exception of Loomis... they raped him.) The visual style is top notch; this is one of the best looking horror movies I've seen in years. Sadly, the story just doesn't do much. It's strung out in 30 different directions, and none of them seem to gel. Rob Zombie's worst film, but it's not all bad. Expand

Im glad I ignored the critics reviews and watched H2. It kept my interest enough and I felt more involved than in the first installment. Zombie fans will appreciate this one. Not his best, but def worth checking out.

It's a breath of fresh air in what was becoming a stagnant, cheesy series...I'm sure we'd all love to pretend Resurection does not exist.. While it is nowhere near the quality of the 2007 re-make, it is interesting to see Rob Zombie taking the story in a direction of his own, while still paying homage to plot developments of the older movies in the franchise. Sure, the story gets a little messy and hard to follow, but, all things considered, Zombie is still in the fairly early stages of his film career, and were 'warned' prior to the release that this would be like no other Halloween. So, I will agree and rehash what has been said by many: stop comparing to the original, if that's what you want, than just watch it. I think the fact that movie goers are so spit on this one, and the fact that people are having a hard time accepting it in the Halloween franchise should speak clearly to the fact that this is an innovative, welcome approach in today's laughable horror market. If you can get past the horrible dialague, we get to listen to Laurie scream her head off the whole movie, watch Dr. Loomis serve absolutely no purpose in this "film" other than to pimp his new book, and one unimaginitive hack-hack-hack murder after another. At least throw me a little creativity with the kills, if nothing else. Twice as bad as the remake of part 1, and that's only because Zombie had John Carpenter's original classic to base the storyline on. On part 2, Zombie was flying solo, making up his own storyline, and he crashed and burned horribly with this one. And you gotta love the old "fooled you!" endings. So unoriginal and cliche. Argh. It is more atmospheric and there are many beautifully filmed shots. There are a few gaping plot holes and the audience often wonders, "Why is he endlessly walking?" The gore will turn some people off, but its a good story. I see a lot of reviews where they don't understand the whole "mother/son" thing, but Zombie explains that very early on in the movie. If they had done more a straight-forward reboot of Halloween 2, I think things would have been a lot better off. Trying to explain Michael's madness never works out well.

Rob Zombie's Michael Myers is brought back to life when two necrophiliac rednecks drive a van into a cow.

And that tells you all you need to know about this movie's storytelling, craft, execution, watchability, and general case for existing.

Without Michael Myers it could be a good study on redneck American culture and adolescent pain. Rob Zombie’s sequel feels more like a gory Netflix series rather than a film but because of its original take, and hillbilly (or hellbilly) feel, there is a great deal of suspense. What ruins the movie is unfortunately the use of his wife, Sherri Moon Zombie, as a cheesy ghost motivating Michael Myers rampage.

What really interested me though was Final Girl, Laurie Strode’s mental state. Is she crazy or a victim of a cycle of psychosis or even a victim of some evil possession? The ambiguity is both intriguing and frustrating and ultimately leads nowhere.

I don't know what's wrong with some of these petty people. I think this was a very good movie. Some people, I think, don't know how to view a remake without seeing the original when they should look at what the movie itself is.

Halloween II. This is the worst thing that could ever be. After quite a normal Halloween (2007), Rob Zombie decides to continue the story of a maniac in a mask. It would be better if he didn't. After quite a normal Halloween (2007), Rob Zombie decides to continue the story of a maniac in a mask. It would be better if he didn't. The story should have ended back in 2007, because Halloween II is the Frankenstein of everything. The characters are completely revamped. From quite well Samuel Loomis they make the most disgusting character, plus which practically does not affect the plot in any way. Take out Samuel Loomis and the film loses nothing. From Michael Myers they made a completely different character, this is now a crazy homeless man who kills anyone who gets in his way. I can't say enough good things about Laurie Strode. She can do nothing but yell obscene words. Halloween II unfortunately becomes the worst movie in the franchise and it would be better if it did not exist. Expand

I actually have just a touch more appreciation for it. I still don't think it's a good movie by any means. But it does seem to have more of an identity that the remake. Original at the time in the Halloween franchise of its exploration of the trauma that the surviving characters have endured and the after effects is interesting. Some of it works and some of it doesn't. The good stuff is Zombie's story direction and some solid ideas. The beginning is exciting and appropriately nonsensical. Danielle Harris is the MVP of the movie giving Annie some layers and a likable, genuine feel unlike the last film. The bad is the unnecessary mean sportiness, the goofy and crass dialogue, Scout Taylor Compton's horrific turn once again as Laurie and the decision to have Sheri Moon in it again with a white horse. I get it symbolically but having it materialized physically throughout the entire film is a big mistake. I also loved once again the ferociousness of Michael. All in all it's better than I remember but it's still not a good movie on any level. Mist of it feels unnecessary and soulless and mostly it's just not very entertaining. Expand

I freakin hate this movie, it's nonsensical, its disgusting to watch, and it makes Laurie herself unlikable and wishing for her death and THAT is unforgivable. The best thing this movie did was set it up to where he's stalked her to the hospital, that was tense and wonderful and they RUINED IT by making a "woe is me" PTSD mind fu** of a movie that is a complete waste of time and honestly makes you sick to your stomach with the character assassination of Laurie, Loomis, and even Michael himself. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING Halloween 2009 did great is absolutely destroyed here in favor of some abomination and something I never want to watch again, it doesn't even feel like the sequel to the 2009 movie, it feels like some college film student's attempt at making it and it fails SPECTACULARLY. Rob Zombie ruined the Halloween movies & yes at the Box office Halloween 1 made 80.4 million BUT I think just like me everyone was excited to see it because it had been 5 years since any Halloween movie had been made BUT Rob Zombie's sequel Halloween 2 (2009) only made 39.4 million huge difference from his 1st movie with a box office difference of $45.5 Million. I didn't even see Halloween 2 (2009) in the theater I ended up watching it DVD. IF you're a huge fan of the Halloween franchise & haven't watched Rob Zombies Halloween (2007) & Halloween 2 (2009) I BEG YOU NOT to even waste your time to watch Halloween 1 (2007) or Halloween 2 (2009) because both are just so awful BUT thank god to Director: David Gordon Green for continuing the Original Halloween movies with Halloween (2018) not sure why he named it Halloween when the original 1978 movie has the same name & it takes place after the original Halloween 1978 movie 40 yrs later so Halloween 2-8 don't exist with this 2018 movie but in my opinion it should take place after Halloween 2 1981 because Halloween 2 pick up where Halloween 1 left off it opens up with the end of Halloween 1 1978 & Halloween 2 (1981) starts on the same night from Halloween 1 (1978) Expand

The movie lacked suspense. The movie started good. First 20 minutes were good and pace was also good but after that film diviated from it's path. Every character was just a cookie cut-out waiting to be killed. There were many of the actors in which you didn't even get a good look at their faces before they were killed. The movie was disjointed and extremely loud and gory. Also, Sam Loomis's character which was better in first part was worst in this part. I also didn't like the fact that the movie veered so much into her nightmares that most times you didn't know if it was real or just a nightmare; or was Michael Myers and he could be anywhere. Overall, this movie was so violent and gory & so dreadful and boring at the same time. Expand
