Minus the, shall we say, rather revealing sex scenes, this is the kind of movie my parents used to complain that Hollywood doesn't make anymore. Even though I read the book and basically knew what was coming, I was still caught up in the suspense of it. Gone Girl is so full of suspense that it keeps you on your toes and thinking what is true and what is not and trying to figure out the characters' next moves for the whole lengthy 149 minutes. Speaking about the plot would mean spoilers, so I'll refrain from it, but it should be mentioned that it is full of twists, some more or less predictable, and some just shocking. The actors are brilliant, and Rosamund Pike here is truly the queen of the show. In other words, go watch this movie, it's not that easy to find a better way to spend two and a half hours.… Expand

Phenomenal in every single regard. The cinematography in this film is treated like a painting, every single shot has a meaning and is set up perfectly. Gone Girl is the one film that will embed itself permanently in your psyche. A bold statement, to say the least, but it is the only statement that comes close to describing the frightening physiological paradigm created by suspense maestro Divid Fincher. Emotionally charged, disturbed and at times simply terrifying, Fincher’s analysis of what can go wrong with contemporary marriage is the ultimate battle of the sexes and search for answers; whether right, wrong, or completely unexpected.

An adaption of the widely sought-after 2012 novel by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl paints a bloody portrait of battle between husband and wife Nick and Amy Dunne (Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike) that asks the question asked by many who’ve had a relationship fall apart before their eyes: how much do you really know about your partner?

Contrary to its appearance courtesy of the narratively manipulating and heavily contrived editing and fragmented storytelling, the real issues in Nick and Amy’s marriage begin long before either of them even meet. Amy, who is introduced as the atypical yet very real trust-fund baby, lives most of her life steps behind her fictional alter-ego “Amazing Amy”, a character in a children’s series authored by her parents, Rand and Marybeth Elliot (David Clennon and Lisa Banes). Nick (Affleck) may very well portray himself as the perfect man. A writer for a men’s magazine, Nick finds himself at a yuppie party in the lower-east side of Manhattan before bumping into Amy, where he charms his way into her heart by confessing how he thought quinoa was a type of fish. The two depart the party where Nick leads Amy behind a bakery, the air glistening with sugar flakes, until the moment he kisses the specs of refined white power off her lips, the two perfect lovers fall in love.

But like everything that seems too good too be true, their magic doesn’t last. Both suffering in their relationship from the failed American economy and Nick’s ailing mother, Nick must pick-up his picturesque wife and life in urban New York City, and relocate to his Mid-Western hometown of North Carthage, Missouri. With the passing of Nick’s mother and his father’s admittance to the local nursing home for treatment of his Alzheimer’s, the couple is burdened with financial woes, prompting Nick and his quick-mouthed twin sister Margo (the fantastic Carrie Coon) to open a bar, perfectly named ‘The Bar’. Coming home to Amy for their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick drives into his perfect “McMansion” home and ideal wife, only to find the cat on the driveway, a wide opened front door, and Amy no-where in sight.

While many will spoil so much of what the film has to offer, it is best you go into it with a completely untainted opinion regardless if you’ve read the novel or not. Fincher and Flynn offer a completely revitalized reincarnation of Flynn’s novel with many layers, twists and turns, and most of all questions.

Fincher has given himself quite the reputation as a noble successor to Hitchcock, mastering the art of Hitchcockian thrillers and suspense. From Fight Club, to his highly stylized American interpretation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Fincher has become the most consistent American director working today. Staying true to his ominous and truly septic vision, faithfully collaborating with editor Kirk Baxter, cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth and music with Oscar winners Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor, Fincher is a meticulously relevant cinematic auteur who knows how to deliver in a tonal, visual, and deep subliminal forum that has quickly become his signature. Trying to ignore big set pieces, he goes to the most basic scenes in all films: two people seated in a room having a conversation. Fincher’s greatest cinematic tool is his focus on information, buried in the revelations between characters and their conflicts expressed in their dialogue. Exposition is his greatest asset, with drama driven by audience reaction to a character’s divulgence of new information—and Gone Girl is a testament to this.

While Gone Girl becomes the most sadistic cinematic version of he-said/she-said outside the walls of a courtroom, the film is pillared perfectly by its cast as well as its crew. Ben Affleck’s interpretation of Nick Dunne draws fine lines of empathy and calmness, as well as unhappiness and deception for his wife and the people in his mundane, quickly shattering life. Nick’s character, charming throughout the first act of the film, like any other man, shares his concerns about marital life, self-image, and the mistakes he makes as a man and as a husband. Affleck has never been better; yet, the next Caped Crusader isn’t the true runaway star of Gone Girl.… Expand

Wow this film is looney tunes and I loved every minute of it. First what can you say about David Fincher the man is a master craftsman behind the camera with every shot in this film more gorgeous than the last. Gone Girl is simply one of the best movies of 2014 and will leave you twisting in all directions. Down right perfect acting, on point directing I just cannot stop thinking about the ending. Perfect. A masterpiece of genre film-making. Mind Blown!

Ela desapareceu, e o principal suspeito é o seu marido Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck).
Falam que o livro é sempre melhor do que o filme, se isso for verdade Gone Girl de Gillian Flynn será imensamente prazeroso de se ler, sim eu ainda não li, mas já vou comprar, pois sua adaptação é majestosa.
Você irá se perguntar se a sua namorada é uma sociopata, se alguém está armando algo e mentindo nas suas costas entre outras tantas perguntas; David Fincher mostra novamente sua incrível e precisa direção, o tom de suspense do começo ao fim, as reviravoltas e a insanidade roubam a cena juntamente com atuações que fazem o cinema enlouquecer.
O grande número de voice-overs, a perfeita trilha sonora (é simplesmente sensacional tem momentos que os sons lembram um menu de vídeo game que está pronto para iniciar quando na verdade os protagonistas estão jogando um jogo da vida, literalmente isso, a vida real), bons personagens secundários(Carrie Coon está fenomenal como Margo Dunne)e uma esperta edição criam tenso e delicioso thriller composto por um clima de verdades e mentiras, conflitos, manipulações e competições entre os personagens.
Até mesmo um filme perturbador e sombrio tem seus momentos engraçados, neste caso o falso amor e até mesmo as cenas sádicas são muito divertidas e irônicas.
Ben Affleck marca seu ponto com sua ótima atuação, mas quem realmente se destaca é Rosamund Pike com sua brilhante, insana e assustadora performance que certamente chamará a atenção dos Oscars, não somente ela mas o filme já garantiu muitas indicações.
Vejam o mais rápido que puderem vocês não tem como se arrepender somente elogiar e, por favor, não tentem ser uma “garota exemplar”.… Expand

In my opinion, Gone girl is the best film of the year so far. It is complex, it is creepy, it is satirical, it is some of Fincher's best work.

The cinematography is beautiful, the performances are perfection ( Especially Rosamund Pike ). But my one big problem with the film is, Neil patrick harris. Not that he was bad he was actually very good but it was his character that was the problem. Quite an underwritten character, but the character served a major purpose and that makes me forgive the film.

Without giving away any spoilers, I think we've come across the best cinematic villain since Hannibal Lecter, and the best shower scene since Psycho. Whoever below said it was like the most Hitchcockian example of modern filmmaking: I think that observation is spot-on. Fantastic. Even after knowing the plot I was totally riveted.… Expand

The reason us fans love this movie because it has a "Alfred Hitchcock" vibe. It's steamy, it's sexy, gory and psychotic, all mashed together with mixed emotions. We can all agree that the 'overrated' director David Fincher does that perfectly in his films, in this film fits the bill perfectly. Best-selling author Gillian Flynn's debut as a screenwriter is just chilling and effected craft. We have Ben Affleck playing a desperate dick husband, he tries to make the media and everyone us believe that he did not kill his wife (or had anything else to do with the disappearance). Rosamund Pike is even slightly better than Affleck's character. Kim Dickens character was really amusing as the detective. Carrie Coon's character "Margo" was had a good comedic presence to the screen, but at times the stuff she says sometimes can be at the wrong time so that's what i guess. I am not sure if this film is gonna impact Perry's career, but it'll get the guy a better role. Neil Patrick Harris' character is awkward and lovely at times. But the ending is stupid! Grade A-… Expand

One of the most prominent and distinguished directors in Hollywood, David Fincher, returns to theaters this October to kick off awards season with Gone Girl, the slick, darkly humorous, murder mystery based off the bestselling book of the same name. Fincher brings his A game, with impeccable casting, his signature cinematography, and a deliciously disturbing tale of revenge, anger, laziness, narcissism, betrayal, and manipulation. The screenplay (written by the books author, Gillian Flynn) examines the hardships of marriage and sensationalism of the media in ways that, while not groundbreaking, ultimately are constructed incredibly well by a fantastic cast of interesting and relatable characters.

Tragedy and misery has never before been so enjoyable. Continuing his hot-streak, Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, whose wife (Rosamund Pike) mysteriously disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. His sense of detachment in an increasingly perilous situation finds its way through the screen and manifests itself in the viewer, to the point where I oddly felt calm and detached myself. The character of Nick Dunne is that persuasive. His performance as a well off, self loathing, arrogant writer fits the bill perfectly. Opposite him, Rosamund Pike, the standout of the film, comes off as the cool, calculated, meticulous, and narcissistic wife. Her role had much more complexity that I believed there was based on marketing materials. The rest of the casting, while on paper may seem questionable (Tyler Perry seems like he’s trying to change his image at the moment), is perfect, and full of surprises.
From the opening shots, viewers will immediately recognize the style of director David Fincher. A shadowy dark blue tint encapsulates the screen, and wide shots of Dunne’s Missouri hometown are shown, interspersed with the credits. At this point, Fincher has become known for his intricate title sequences. His body of work reveals that he loves to revel in dark, tension filled murder mysteries (Zodiac, Seven, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). While not his best film (that honor belongs to the incredible Social Network) overall, it is his best crime thriller, of which there are an abundance to choose from. While not quite as dark and twisted as his 2011 adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s über popular series, that is most definitely for the better. One of the best surprises of the film, is how often humor is interlaced in this decidedly bleak looking tale.
Prolific composer and frequent collaborator Trent Reznor graces his audience with another fantastic soundtrack, following his work in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network. The long, strung out cords creates an ruthlessly eerie mood, which helps perfect the tone and presentation of the film. The score is never too and is used sparingly to great effect.
DF-01826cc - Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) finds himself the chief suspect behind the shocking disappearance of his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike), on their fifth anniversary.
Throughout most of the film, Nick Dunne is ruthlessly hounded by the media. He becomes a prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife, and for palpable reasons easy enough to understand for audience members. “Nick Dunne, you’re probably the most hated man in America right now” says the Nancy Grace character that Dunne agrees to be interviewed by to help clear his name. And he is the most hated man in America, not because he had been proven guilty, but because of the sensationalism present whenever a case like this happens. This point isn’t fiction, and it’s one of the valid, and strong points driven home by the script. People love to hate. I was reminded of one of the more famous trials in recent memory. Zimmerman v State of Florida. News coverage was vastly misleading, from editing of evidence, to misrepresentation of the subjects, to allegations of the shooting being a hate crime. It’s a strange phenomenon, but when you can make someone look really bad, people gobble it up. Although Zimmerman was ultimately acquitted of his second degree murder charge, I’m not advocating that either him or Trayvon Martin were certain types of people, and that’s the point. Both Nick and Amy Dunne are deeply flawed individuals, with their own sets of problems that they deal with away from the spotlight. While the ending is not maybe as ambiguous as one might hope, no one gets away scot free. There is a definitive villain revealed before the credits role.
Gone Girl impresses on every front. The presentation of the film is flawless. The score, cinematography, performances, create a sleek, atmospheric mood that suits the film fine. While I haven’t read the book, and therefore can’t speak for the quality of the adaption, what you find here is a fully fleshed out story, and I never once felt like anything was missing. The two and a half hour running time disappeared before my eyes. There are a astounding amount of onscreen clues for the attentive viewer, grabbing your attention, and fixing your eye on the screen. The ridiculousness of the plot at certain points, covered in layers of satire, are utterly intoxicating. This is a film for the engaged movie goer. About 40 minutes in, when the first twist presents itself, the hooks sink in, and they never come loose. Do yourself a favor and go see this one.

I was dragged to the movie by my over eager girlfriend... I'm a little worried now. The movie is brilliant though, cant complain. From the trailer i assumed the movie was about a violent husband going a little too far - far from it it would seem. The acting in this film is top notch. Everyone in this movie was truly outstanding. Rosamund Pike is the standout performance here though. She absolutely becomes the character of Amy Dunne. She is on point with every single thing she does in the movie. Affleck's performance as Nick Dunne has to be touched upon as well. His character is very mysterious and unclear in his motives. His awkward personality causes people to become suspicious of him throughout the movie. This awkwardness is something that Affleck does excellently. This movie touches on themes of marriage, social norms, economic hardships, and the behavior of the media; all these themes are brilliantly intertwined throughout the movie's narrative. Gone Girl is strangely hilarious, intriguing, and disturbing. It is a perfect movie.… Expand

Absolutely loved this film! Kept me on the edge with constant twists throughout the story. A little disturbing in some scenes but clever storyline which keeps the audience gripped, left the cinema feeling very satisfied!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gone Girl is a phenomenal psychological suspense thriller reminiscent of a lost Hitchcockian style. Gillian Flynn perfectly adapts her novel to the silver screen with a modern, paranoia-inducing story that David Fincher directs exquisitely. The cinematography and editing help accent the dark tone of the film coupled with the eerie and instantly iconic score.

The greatest part of the film, which is difficult to achieve with its unbelievable script, is the acting by Rosamund Pike. With her best performance to date she brings us Amy Dunne, an empathetic, intelligent and borderline sociopathic character that makes you both sob for her yet cringe at her actions. Such a wonderfully dynamic character.

There was nothing much that I could complain about this film although I find that a general audience of this century may find the narrative to drag a bit as little to no action happens through the second act of the film. However, that does not detract from the fact that Gone Girl is a brilliantly made film that deserves acknowledgement and should be a strong contender during Awards Season.… Expand

Fincher logra que el espectador entre en el film, que interactue con la historia, los personajes y juzgue, realice sus teorías y que se lleve muchas sorpresas en todo el film, en ningún momento el film cae en lo aburrido, la película (a pesar de su duración extensa de casi 3 horas) no se siente larga, ni pesada, como espectador no quería que terminara, pues la dirección de Fincher te mete tanto en el film que quieres saber todo hasta con detalles.
Las ACTUACIONES: Magistrales, Cada actor hace un increíble trabajo, un trabajo impecable, nos trasmite odio, angustia, miedo, risas etc, huelo a oscar´s
Edición: impecable; sin palabras, la forma en que la película esta contada no deja dudas, no deja cosas sin resolver y la narrativa no cae, sigue un camino lleno de suspenso y angustia, un camino interesante
ADAPTACIÓN: Respeta perfectamente al libro, una increíble adaptación cinematográfica

Everything about this film is absolutely stunning. The atmosphere, combined with wonderful aesthetic details, embraces you and sucks you inside the suspense of the movie, not allowing you to leave because you might miss a crucial scene (and you just never know when those might appear). The cast is brilliant, especially Rosamund Pike, who deserved her Oscar nomination in every aspect, and Tyler Perry, who proved to be an absolute scene stealer almost every time. Fincher once again proved his class and his mastery in the thriller/crime genre and I am certainly looking forward to his next work. It is truly a dreadful decision of the Academy not to give Fincher and this movie at leas a nomination, but... well, those are the Oscars for you. In any case, a brilliant work of art that manages to elevate both Fincher's skills and the genre onto a completely new level.… Expand

I have to say that David Fincher is a true master class of directing, because Gone girl is one of the best films of this year. Ben Affleck was perfect for this role, because Ben Affleck through out his career had a lot of hate from the media and the critics that mostly slammed him in every role that he was in. And that's why he was outstanding in this movie. Rosamund Pike acting in this film was pure brilliant and spectacular. She was so good in this role she might get a Oscar nomination for this. Tyler Perry in this movie was actually pretty damn good, and am so surprise saying that because Mr. Perry was in such awful films like: MADEA trilogy, Alex cross and the list goes on. But in this movie he did good.

What this movie does so brilliantly well is how we view media today, because most of the stories you hear on the news might not be true and how the media can spread lies about people and ruining they lives. Everybody always believes what the media says even if it's true or not, because we don't know what that person on the news is going through, and this movie got that message out they so perfectly.

My only problem with this movie is Neil Patrick Harris character. Now let me just say that Neil Patrick Harris wasn't terrible in the movie, but his character to me slowed the film down for me. Overall Gone Girl is a fantastic film and it's the movie to see.… Expand

As you can probably see I enjoyed it, a lot, I enjoyed it because it is such a complex and interesting movie, during its longevity you never feel bored, you never feel like you're watching useless entertainment, this movie is able to be brutal, thrilling, dramatic, and able to provoke all sorts of other feelings on you.
Now let's talk about the elements of the film, the acting was top-notch, amazing performances from Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike and of course all the other actors did an amazing job, like for instance Neil Patrick Harris did a great job and even Tyler Perry feels authentic and great. The way this film is shot is amazing, every frame is filled with information and detail, the soundtrack while not the most extravagant manages to be captivating and unique, David Fincher did an amazing job, his films feel like distinct universes and different realities than ours because of the uniqueness and complexity of the situations we see in his movies, kudos for all of this.
The plot is amazing, it's awesomely complex and so interesting, it manages to gather so many different themes in one storyline while making it feel very natural and realistic, the brutality in this film, the violence, the pressure, these are all elements that come in to make the film feel darker and darker as we go along, and damn, it's a hell of a ride.
The only downside that I find in this movie is the ending, I am not saying I dislike open endings but I feel like if we got a solid ending we would be more satisfied, as the movie takes most of it's time during the second act, it leaves the third act with less time than it should have had, this time could be used to develop the ending in a more solid ways, as it feels like some parts of it were chopped of for time's sake.
Ultimately I absolutely recommend everyone to go and watch this movie, it's a true masterpiece of today's cinema and the reason why I like movies so much, because this ain't just movie, this is an experience.… Expand

Honestly, I have decided to see the film just because the director is David Fincher. He has his own very distinctive style, and even if you have seen only one of his movies, you will immediately recognize Fincher's work in “Gone Girl”.

The plot is fast moving and absorbing, compels viewers to follow the chain of events. By the way, the screenplay based on a novel of the same name written by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the script.

Turning back to the film, the day of his 5th anniversary, Nick Dunne (by Ben Affleck) returns home and finds his wife Amy (by Rosamund Pike) is missing. Of course, he goes to the police, then calls her parents. After all, the mass media covers the disappearance of Amy. Day by day the influence of the press on Nick's life is rising. Meanwhile, we find out the details of daily life of the couple which make us change our mind over Nick. Did he kill his wife? All evidences give us broad hints about it.

Whereas, Nick convinces his sister in his innocence and tries to prove it to everyone else, it turns out that the disappearance of Amy was committed by .. Amy. But no one knows it yet.
Will someone reveal the truth?

Every shot is immaculate. The soundtrack is tense. Every performance is too real. The story, written by Gillian Flynn (the author of the novel this movie is based on) is filled with twists and turns, and will have you guessing and leave you shocked with every development until the very end. The ending of this movie is so satisfying and shocking, and I won't spoil anything about it!

Gone Girl is a very cleverly done meta of a film. At it's core, this is a movie about secrets, manipulation, lies, and ultimately a conflict between men, women, and how relationships are perceived by society vs. how relationships actually are. The performances by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are jaw dropping. Easily their best work. Carrie Coon is incredible as always, and even Tyler Perry busts out some great acting chops.

This is a must-see movie. If you like mysteries or thrillers or good acting or a good script, you need to see this movie!… Expand

An intricate story, almost insane.. not almost, but you know. This movie shows how some people pain can become a madness, that is rooted in complete revenge. The protagonist Amy is hiding is hiding behind a mask of a successful, intelligent and independent woman, who has many hobbies, can handle with everything and is also happy. In fact, that's what her parents want her to be and how they actually see her. She found a guy, that change her life and make her really happy, but then he turn out to be a **** selfish person, who start ignoring her and act like she is nothing. Sooo the revenge comes and it's so satisfying. .
Outstanding acting, fascinating story with unbelievable plot twist. Must watch for thriller fans out there!… Expand

Particularly with it's main character. A brilliant and huge twist that changes everything makes this a very different movie when it happens.

The longer it progresses the more tense and involving it becomes. It's not afraid to get dark. The way it presents every aspect is amazing. The way the general public reacts to new information shows how easily people's perceptions are twisted when they really have no idea what's going on, but truly want to. Dialog flows meticulously and is believable. The cast is fantastic and they play characters who feel like real people. Real, twisted people.

It's a masterfully written thriller. One that perhaps does go excessive with it's mature content at times, but this is a mature story so it's to be expected. This is one for an adult audience who enjoys slower, more detailed focused movies. If you're looking for a thriller with a lot of action the look elsewhere. This one is grounded in realism and manipulation as opposed to bullets and punches.

I give "Gone Girl" a 9.8/10.… Expand

The first half of the movie focuses on the more and more entangled husband, and the second half is for the gone girl that reveals her diabolical plot and disappearance till being robbed by neighbors which forces her to go for sheltering at a former boyfriend luxury residence. Every once in a while, a film is able to live up to the yearlong hype that precedes its release. Gone Girl goes above and beyond. It's enthralling and epic. Rosamund Pike's performance as Amy Elliott will live on for years. I guarantee it.

I went into Gone Girl with little understanding of what the film was actually about but with high expectations thanks to some good recommendations from both critics and friends. Gone Girl follows the story of Nick & Amy Dunne. Gone Girl follows the story of Nick & Amy Dunne. After losing their jobs in the economic downturn and when Nick's mother is terminally diagnosed with breast cancer the newly-wed pair move to Missouri to look after her.
Taking place a small number of years after her death, Nick has become lazy and an irritation to Amy who in turn has grown tired of his new attitude and also hurt by her husbands affair with a student of his.
On their fifth wedding anniversary Nick returns home to find the house trashed and Amy gone, after contacting the police and forensic examination taking place Nick is accused of the murder of Amy, though no body is to be found.
Nick begins a journey to clear his name and find his wife, though what he uncovers is not quite as clear cut as he had hoped, but rather something quite sinister with several months of malicious thought and precise planning in order to execute.
David Fincher's adaptation of the 2012 novel of the same name is impeccable, much the same as his adaptation of Fight Club back in 1999. Thanks to some great directing, editing & a great soundtrack Gone Girl is dark, twisted, thrilling and keeps you guessing right until the end; everything a good mystery film should do.
Though the film comes in at 2 hours 30 minutes, it manages to keep you captivated for every single minute. Just make sure you're comfy, you're going to be there a while.… Expand

The sinister plot and multiple twists actually got me to say "Oh s**t" at several moments during the film, but the plot did have a couple of holes, but none of them were detrimental to the film. I wanted the kidnapping/revenge mystery to keep going on. In addition, the characters were performed very well by all. No actor/actress played their role badly and the development of these characters makes you feel for them even more. Overall, this film is definitely worth seeing right now.… Expand

On the surface, it is filled with twists, and putting the twist in the middle (I saw this one coming, I kept ignorant about this movie/book until I saw the movie to reserve the effect), then twists at the end.

The final twist isn't much of a twist if you use Real life as an example. Life is ugly, and more often than not, murders go unsolved, and the bad person gets away with it. It's only Hollywood and the fairy-tail narrative we see on the news that has the bad guys always getting what they deserve and good is rewarded. I caught myself several times, laughing out about how a particular set of events happened, or how twisted a character can be!

The supporting roles were fantastically done! The only reason why this isn't a 10/10, is I have an equally hard time fully becoming immersed in emotional strive portrayed by Ben Affleck (equally so with Tom Cruise) The rest of the movie Ben Affleck is entirely believable, but he was only 90% the way there for me. I'd give it a 9.7/10 if I could.

Deeper down the movie takes a misogynistic tone, but that is superficial. Sure it's a woman who fakes abuse, and all that, but it also puts a truly rare role for a woman into the forefront. A truly disturbed and evil woman. She isn't evil because a man cheated on her and pushed her over the top, she's not evil because she was abused, raped, or otherwise victimized. She is the one who victimizes. Thus, this story spins from being misogynistic to truly feminist, and in a beyond entertaining way.

You leave not even aware that this story was deeper than it was. You leave the movie thinking "damn that was a great movie" then when you think about it later, or read some of the criticisms you can see that they come from a place of missing the point entirely.

This movie deserves the positive reviews.

Rosamund Pike - brilliant.
Tyler Perry - Loved his smaller role
Carrie Coon - **** tastic
Kim Dickens - Loved her role and ups and downs of her character's dealing with the case.
Emily Ratajkowski - MY GOD SHE IS HOT

This movie is worth seeing, and now that I read the book (took me 4 days) I'd recommend that book as well. Both are Brilliant and the slight differences in the movie are perfectly fine by me.… Expand

Since the author of the novel wrote the screenplay, perhaps she changed her mind. Nick is no better than Amy in the book, but somehow he came out more sympathetic in the movie. They are, after all, the perfect couple – they deserve each other. The rest of the cast was great, and David Fincher came through again (I am a fan). I look forward to buying the DVD and savoring this film over and over. I didn’t initially like “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” but appreciate its artistry and craft more each time I watch it. I expect to enjoy this film many more times too.… Expand

TYLER PERRY! the only issue i had with the film was that the final act felt a little sluggish and drawn out, otherwise this an intriguing and memorable mystery that you should definitely see… Expand

He did it with Fight Club and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and he's now done it with Gone Girl, the "it" novel of 2012.

Ostensibly a simple story of a wife that vanishes mysteriously under suspicious circumstances, it expertly weaves parallel and divergent narratives through multiple twists and alternative time-lines while skewering the "trial-by-the-media" culture and the real-life horrors of mid-life marriage angst.

Ben Affleck is perfectly cast as Nick Dunne, the protagonist/antagonist husband of the missing wife. The book/movie works so well because Affleck's character is very hard to pin down. He's flawed but like-able, clueless but clever. Rosamund Pike is excellent but to reveal more would be a spoiler.

Fincher even works magic with the minor characters. Who would have thought of Neil Patrick Harris as a creep-manipulative sad-sack stalker. Carry Coon, a standout in the HBO series The Leftovers, plays Nick's sister and the audience's voice of reason when you just want to scream "Nick, you freaking idiot!"

It's not always perfect. Affleck is obviously buffing up for his upcoming role as Batman with bulging shoulders/biceps that are juxtaposed in tight shirts with his character's slovenly "pot-belly." Another character goes from thin to over-weight in just a few days while trying to go incognito. It also seems to struggle to figure out how/when wrap things up.

These are all "nits" as the story churns in your head as the credits roll which is the true test of excellent film-making.… Expand

GONE GIRL is truly David Fincher's best since FIGHT CLUB but unlike that important work, GONE GIRL never cops out. It ain't perfect though, act two is too long and weak compared to the opening and final sequences. The stunt casting of Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris also doesn't pay off with neither giving particularly interesting performances. But all is redeemed by the strengths of GONE GIRL which include a superb screenplay and two stellar central performances. GONE GIRL is actually kind of indescribable. Couldn't believe how crazy good and messed up this film is; in my opinion it is one of David Fincher's best. Rosamund Pike's portrayal as Amy is beyond words, as well I was shocked to see Tyler Perry in an actual good movie.

And after watching this film, I'm very glad I read the book first, since the film remained extremely faithful to it. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike each give without a doubt career-best performances! The film sets the same ominous and mysterious tone the book created so well. And of course, David Fincher's brilliant directing also made this film amazing. I was fully intrigued from start to finish, just like I have been with every one of Fincher's films. Aside from what I felt to be a slightly underwhelming ending compared to how the book ended it, I couldn't recommend this film any higher! Definitely check it out if you loved the book or are a fan of David Fincher.… Expand

Gone Girl is easily one of the best movies of 2014.

The entire main cast in this movie were excellent in this movie. Some of my favorite performances were from Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens but the realGone Girl is easily one of the best movies of 2014.

The entire main cast in this movie were excellent in this movie. Some of my favorite performances were from Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens but the real stars of the show were Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Ben Affleck’s and Rosamund Pike’s performances as Nick and Amy are top-notch in this movie. They played their roles as if they were born to play their roles. It makes sense for Ben Affleck since the movie covers how his character Nick had this media hysteria about him and Ben Affleck experienced this similarly in real life during his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. They also had a great chemistry together and their Oscar performances are Oscar worthy without being too obvious.

The plot was intriguing and edge of the seat from start to finish. They made some changes from the source material in this movie but this won’t bother the fans of the book. I enjoyed the scenes that were outside both Nick and Amy’s point of view and they really moved the plot of the movie.

I am impressed how Gillian Flynn was able to translate her own book to the big screen in her screenplay. She did an impressive job as a first time screenwriter.

David Fincher’s direction is marvelous to watch. The cinematography makes this movie pleasing to see with its yellow coloring. The editing makes this movie thrilling and intriguing. And the eerie score in this movie fits the entire movie’s tone and it enhances the movie experience.

It is particularly easy to guess which direction the plot will be heading, but ignoring the minor flaws and some illogical parts towards the second half of the film, the dark, mysterious psychological development of the characters, funny and brutal at sometimes, the flashback editing at the beginning, stylish cinematography, ambient and eerie scores are the major contributions for the film to be one of the most masterpiece marriage thriller in decades. Not much to mention on Ben Affleck, but the surprisingly frightening and psychopathic performance from Rosamund Pike might drive anger of one's nerves, and come to a conclusion that she is the perfect role. David Fincher proves to be one of the best directors working today, creating an atmosphere that is slowly burning you on the inside. Right from the get go, this movie is intriguing and captivating. Right from the get go, this movie is intriguing and captivating. Ben Affleck really does a great job, and at times you start to question his character. The real scene stealer here is Rosamund Pike, who is intriguing, she's beautiful to look at, she's energetic, she's the real deal. Gone Girl goes in directions, that even if you saw coming, manages to keep you on the edge of your seat, and play with your head.… Expand

The Score by Atticus Toss and Trent Reznor is so intelligent for a thriller genre.

“ David [Fincher] was at the chiropractor and heard this music that was inauthentically trying to make him feel OK, and that became a perfect metaphor for this film … The challenge was, simply, what is the musical equivalent of the same sort of façade of comfort and a feeling of insincerity that that music represented? [My primary aim was] to instill doubt [and] remind you that things aren’t always what they seem to be. ”

Rosamund Pike gave one of her best performances till date reminding me of Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct )

Its a masterpiece for sure but not the best of the year.
I'm actually waiting for Goofs(mistakes) in the movie! (Is there any?)

I viewed the film before reading the book, having no idea what to expect, and loved the movie. I thought the characters were pretty well developed, the acting was superb, the direction was excellent. Que surpresa agradável. Entrou facilmente na minha lista de melhores filmes de 2014. Gone Girl (Garota Exemplar) é um filme baseado em um livro, que teve o roteiro escrito pelo autor do livro. O filme é incrível, a história é surpreendente,Que surpresa agradável. Entrou facilmente na minha lista de melhores filmes de 2014. Gone Girl (Garota Exemplar) é um filme baseado em um livro, que teve o roteiro escrito pelo autor do livro. O filme é incrível, a história é surpreendente, cheia de reviravoltas!! O filme é denso, cheio de camadas, que vão dês das claras e óbvias mostradas na história, até outras mais profundas abordando temas como desonestidade, "manter as aparências", problemas financeiros, e tudo mais, e como isso interfere diretamente em uma relação. Além de dar um tapa na cara da mídia sensacionalista. O filme teve excelentes críticas no mundo inteiro, e foi o que me fez querer ver. Em vários prêmios, teve várias indicações e ganhou vários prêmios de melhor roteiro, melhor direção, melhor atriz principal e até, acredite, melhor ator principal para Ben Affleck !!!
