This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well I just got back from seeing God's not Dead and I got to say it's a piece of **** But if it was merely just a piece of **** I wouldn't even be complaining but it goes above and beyond your traditional piece of ****.
Let me explain, first off I can handle back alley abortions of representations of what I and millions of others believe in (or don't believe in this case) but good lord did they screw up with this one. Every atheist is depicted as an arrogant jerk (yes some atheist are arrogant jerks and I was an arrogant jerk back when I first started being an atheist but I mellowed out some and I accept Christianity as a thing in our world and most atheists are nice people) who's out to destroy god and take away God because the big bad atheists don't want people praying because it's illogical. Also the arguments "presented" are so ridiculously asinine that any competent atheists (as in a atheist who studied up on common arguments against gods existence) could debunk them in their sleep.
Now just when it couldn't get any worse, they introduce a Muslim girl who's rebelling against her uber strict Quran thumping father by listening to the Holy word of god all mighty. When he finds out that her little hijab wearing angel is listening to sermons and won't accept Islam as the true faith. He beats her like a Mexican pinata and throws her out the house by her neck, clumping atheists together with Muslims as another group that has to be lampooned in this **** **** of a movie.
But believe it or not this isn't even the worst part about this movie, it's the ending, oh dear god the ending. I'm going to spoil the ending of this movie because **** this movie, **** the people who made this movie, **** the people who bought tickets to this movie (I bought a ticket to another movie called the Grand Budapest Hotel and snuck in the theater where the film was playing so I wouldn't pay money to the creators), and while I got my **** yous out **** the people who served me cold crabcakes at TGI Fridays 2 days ago. At the end of the movie the antagonistic philosophy professor losses the debate against the generic white boy christian named Josh Wheaton (Not to be confused with Joss Wheadon) and on his way to meet his wife who broke up with him for being an atheist (I share your pain you philosophy professor even if you managed to lose the debate to someone you shouldn't have in a realistic situation) then he gets hit by a car. Now as he's dying with blood filling his longs a pastor comes in and after getting the crowd to call an ambulance, he basically forces him to convert to god by using his last minutes of waking breath to get him to accept Jesus implying that at in the end all atheist will eventually accept Jesus once they're near death which sort of offends me. It's Pascals Wager (look it up) in all but name which implies that it doesn't matter whether or not you've spent your entire life disbelieving as long as you accept Jesus before you die you'll be saved which also implies that God's morality is incredibly shallow but I'm not hear to provoke a debate I'm her to criticize an awful movie. It's basically saying "Hah, you may have all the facts but once you're near death you'll see who's right." in a condescending tone.
This film isn't just bad, it's offensively bad. It's Birth of a Nation with the atheists being substituted for African Americans (not in plot but in intent). And the punch line was I was looking for a good arguments in this film but instead I found my non-belief system being viciously skewed in order to spread some half baked Christian propaganda. It offers no new arguments I haven't heard, portrays the non-Christians as arrogant dickwads, and it made way more money than it deserved to make. Don't see this movie if you're looking for a fair view of Atheists, or even if you're looking for arguments against Atheism, because this film won't provide any thing of value for you.

Seriously tho, this is sickening propaganda. It literally switches the role of Christians with anyone else and tries to make it seem as if they are somehow a super minority that is bullied by everyone else. Worst off is that the film tries to give a few cases where such a thing has happened to Christians, but apparently they thought everyone watching this would be far too stupid to fact check, because for anyone who does, you'll find that none of the cases listed actually has anything to do with what happened to the main character in the film. In fact, most of the example cases they gave actually revolve around Christians trying to gain privileges over other groups within schools. It doesn't matter what religion you follow, if any... This movie will make you want to puke at how disgusting this film tries to change reality. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Minor spoilers. Unfortunately, this movie embarrasses the Christian faith and makes us look like idiots. The antagonizing of the professor was stupid and the arguments in the final debate were actually kind of weak. While they provide some reasons for the existence of a God, no atheist watching this movie is going to be convinced. Pray for them, no need to bash them. Disappointed that a movie like this was made. Propaganda at its most obvious, this 'film' attempts to convey the idea that the majority religion (over three quarters of the US) is being persecuted by the smallest minority (~2%). Persecution complex at its worst.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was so wrong in all aspects. First they didn't even know proper Muslim "hijab" and obviously had no idea about the religion what so ever, like Americans don't hate Muslims enough and can't believe it showed the father hitting his daughter real Muslims DO NOT do that. Just more propaganda to hate other religions and races. This is coming from an agnostic that wants peace in the world which I see not coming since propaganda like this is coming out. Also makes Atheists look like stubborn selfish people who "hate" God and believe in him only because they feel they have had injustice in their life. Also it makes Christians look like bullies always having to be right about everything. I don't know why many church people expect all Professors as being Atheist. Most of my Professors I have had are Christian, and I remember when I was raised in the church they told me when I got in college Professors would try making me Atheist (which wasn't the case at all) Professors are and should always be bias to what they teach. Also the argument the Theist made was very weak. Terrible movie!!!!!! Movies like this is why we have not made much steps towards tolerance of other beliefs. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I became interested in this movie after I came across its trailer. I do not support any religious view but I wanted to see a movie that would challenge me philosophically about the presence of a deity as it promised and basically the arguments in the movie is a disgrace to logic. There are too many unnecessary characters that do not contribute to the overall scenario and when the entire movie prepares you for a showdown of logic and fails you during the process, then it is hard to find to find something positive about this film.

This is the film about a philosophy professor who turns out to be angry at the God whom he believes in and this professor has the logic of an 8 year old who does not even know the introductory philosophy like what "God is dead" stands for in context. I would literally have more information about both sides of the arguments under a Youtube comment section for controversial videos. I literally do not care about which side of the argument is supported during the entire movie but this movie is just purely stupid and useless when it fails to achieve what it promises.

This film is a massive misrepresentationAnti-atheist propaganda film full of bad acting and logical fallacies. The "proof" this film offers for the existence of a god is the same tired "god of the gaps" argument that never explains anything. This film is a massive misrepresentation of both philosophy AND atheism. The teacher is actually a misotheist (believing in a god and hating it), so the film just straw-mans the atheist position the entire time. Kevin Sorbo is a right-wing nut job continuing to embarrass himself with cinematic dumpster fires like this. Any self-respecting Christian should condemn this, and sadly many of them will see this and feel that this further emboldens their persecution complex. The entire premise of the story is laughably exaggerated to the point of absurdity, just like the Bible. Expand

What I liked about God's Not Dead:

- Kevin Sorbo's performance. He's really good at drawing empathy for a bitter intellectual. He brings nihilism to life when quoting Job and Shakespeare. And with his command over his role, he almost makes it believable that his character can away with what he gets away with.

- The pacing and build-up to the climax, true to the form of a David and Goliath story. I always felt engaged, and each scene came when it felt like it should come.

- Despite the enormous cast for a short movie, all of the characters are distinct and memorable. By "memorable" I don't mean "interesting"; I just mean "when I see their face, I remember who they are and why they're important".

What I didn't like:

- The unbelievability of it all. Several characters make decisions, and several situations exist, simply because the plot needs it to be that way. Small example: the way the main character's girlfriend of 6 years breaks up with him over his choice to debate the professor. I can't see why she in her right mind would do that. But the movie needs it to be that way to show that Christians are persecuted and alienated for confessing Christ.

- There's almost no moral nuance in any character. It's totally black-and-white; all the Christian characters are good and all the non-Christian characters are bad. The non-Christians never make a good point that's taken seriously, and the Christians never say or do anything questionable in the name of their religion. Everyone is defined by the side that they take, not by their individual desires or demons.

- There were a few scenes that were supposed to be dramatic or tragic, but in the moment, the characters turned into mouthpieces for doctrine. They made me giggle because of how ridiculously out-of-place their words were. This is when the movie became "so bad it's good".

- There are so many subplots that some of them don't have the time they would need to be developed in a way that makes sense. It's less a story and more a bunch of tenuously connected stuff that happens.

- It's shallow. If there's any real moral of the story, it's that the love of Jesus brings people together. And it brings them together at a Newsboys concert. Nevermind their trauma and dire circumstances. Just pay to go watch people perform on stage and it will all be better.

- And finally: its thesis is unconvincing. The movie basically sidesteps the issue of whether or not God actually exists, and just focuses on the power of the cultural phenomenon of Christianity. And the persecution it supposedly faces. The characters who *are* converted are converted way too easily, and the persecutors are obvious straw men. The movie has little verisimilitude. It's not a story about humans doing human things and going through human changes. It's propaganda.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's so offensive, seriously. At first I thought "Weh, it's not that bad", but after rewatching the film, I realized how horrible it was. Josh is presented as a huge Gary Stu when all he does is preach, and, worst of all, all of the characters who aren't Christians suffer some kind of punishment. They either die or convert to Christianity for no goddamn reason. It basically delivers the message "Believe in God or perish", which is absolutely offensive. What's worst is that Radisson, who could've had a happy ending, had to be hit by a car and forced by two pastors try to convert to Christianity. Amy could've simply learned for her mistakes without changing her beliefs. All of them characters, Radisson, Amy, Ayisha, could've had a happy **** ending. But because apparently you're doomed if you're not Christian, they had to be killed. The only thing I like in this movie is the soundtrack. The rest is just trash. **** this movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God's Not Dead paints itself as a serious look at the question of the existence of [the Christian] God. This, while an interesting premise, does not in any way come into fruition. Instead 'God's Not Dead' is a movie which serves as an insult to philosophy. Even the basic argument "God is dead." is a misinterpretation of Friedrich Nietzsche's well-known phrase, which refers to God not being held in much of any regard within the culture and society rather than questioning his existence.

The movie displays atheists as simply 'closet Christians who are angry at God', and does nothing to acknowledge the varying faiths and differences in the interpretation of the existence of a god, and instead opts to solely focus on the Christian God. Furthermore, anyone who is not a Christian is displayed as being an unpleasant person to deal with, to say the least, with the only Muslims being displayed being portrayed as physically abusive and oppressive. The arguments, of both the student and the professor, within the film, when they are even present, are based on such logical fallacies as strawman, argument from ignorance and ad hominem, to name a few.

Of all of the few minutes dedicated to the actual arguments on the subject of the existence of the Christian deity, there is no form of compelling discussion on the topic, and the focus of the argument is reduced to a few quotes from scientists (instead of philosophers) and one rant on the topic. The potential time for any form of compelling argument was instead used to focus on numerous side stories which served to contribute little to the story. So much time is spent on these side stories, which are unrelated to the main character and the central plot, that there is little to no development for the numerous characters introduced in them, and as a result all the characters are dry with little to no depth to them. The only contribution to the story from these storylines is to contribute to a rushed and cliche ending involving Christianity triumphing over the 'evil, secular institution'.

Overall the movie is a disappointment on what could have been an interesting take on the centuries-long issue of the existence of a god in philosophy. Instead the movie serves only as a feel-good movie for those Christians who want to see a movie with Christianity 'winning' against secularism, and who do not care about that movie having any real argument, character development or quality writing.

In short, the movie performs poorly in terms of its quality as a movie, and is even worse in terms of its stated purpose. I found the movie to be barely watchable, and would not recommend it instead of a recommendation on what not to do when addressing this topic.

Besides the overall terrible acting, the film isn't actually that bad once you remove the ideas this film is trying to propel outwards. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I could see where this was going the whole time.
There were a few elements that threw me for a loop: 1) unrealistic "girlfriend" of the main character - no significant other would trounce your dreams so obviously. It seemed forced really.
2) The professor attacks the student personally (who would do that) and completely invalidates his points. Even in high school debate or discussions, they teach you a personal attack without relevance is just about the worst thing you could do. 3) Most surprising was the "rental car" fiasco that keeps appearing throughout with the youth minister. Why not just rent from a different company or take a cab? Hilarious.
About half-way through I noticed where everything was going and began to try note where the unrealistic points/ideas/situations were present (maybe that's the intent by the director?). I almost got to the point of saying "Leave boy! Leave the school because it's ridiculous! Leave the girl because she's insane! File a report against the professor for a personal attack!" (See a theme here?)
In summary, rent if you want a good laugh. Although some valid points are made (don't follow like sheep, stand for your beliefs), the way they were presented and challenged were laughable (see above). Don't buy unless you want to show to your friends or try to pick apart the flaws of a patchwork film.

As far as the unnecessary side characters, some are just horrible human beings. I can't even call one in particular a real character. It is filled with some of the worst blatant stereotypes in the history of mankind. It's also a product placement scheme for Newsboys and Duck Dynasty, which once again serve no purpose. I will give credit to Shane Harper (Josh) who gives a fine performance as well as the pastor and his friend. Even though they don't really have any to truly do with the movie as well, those two are literally the only characters that truly get the message around about God and the christian faith. This film is madeI am an atheist and thus not the target demographic for this film, and I know that when I judge it my review will be dismissed by Christians as not understanding or ignorant, but seriously, is this what Christian cinema is? This film is made for Christians to agree with. The main atheist is just an angry Christian and all Christians are good people while atheists are narcissistic douchebags. Doesn't that seem a little suspicious? The only purpose of this film is to make Christians hate atheists even more and push the stereotype of antitheistic ignorant atheists to the religion of love™ — even as a Christian, this film is absolute trash and only worth watching as an unintentional comedy with your friends. I torrented this and had a good laugh. If you're a Christian and you like this film, you should get educated on psychological tricks used in movies and reconsider if you want a film this terrible to represent your religion. Expand

Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to themselves or others, though not all such acts are considered insanity. In modern usage insanity is most commonly encountered as an informal unscientific term denoting mental instability, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense. In the medical profession the term is now avoided in favor of diagnoses of specific mental disorders; the presence of delusions or hallucinations is broadly referred to as psychosis. When discussing mental illness in general terms, "psychopathology" is considered a preferred descriptor.

In English, the word "sane" derives from the Latin adjective sanus meaning "healthy". The phrase "mens sana in corpore sano" is often translated to mean a "healthy mind in a healthy body". From this perspective, insanity can be considered as poor health of the mind, not necessarily of the brain as an organ (although that can affect mental health), but rather refers to defective function of mental processes such as reasoning. Another Latin phrase related to our current concept of sanity is "compos mentis" (lit. "sound of mind"), and a euphemistic term for insanity is "non compos mentis". In law, mens rea means having had criminal intent, or a guilty mind, when the act (actus reus) was committed.

A more informal use of the term insanity is to denote something considered highly unique, passionate or extreme, including in a positive sense. A notable example has been the use of the phrase 'insanely great' in the launch of the Apple Macintosh, subsequently also used to describe one of its developers. The term may also be used as an attempt to discredit or criticise particular ideas, beliefs, principles, desires, personal feelings, attitudes, or their proponents, such as in politics and religion.

Anybody that's been to college knows that these kind of situations simply don't happen. Any professor that required students to give a statement of faith counter to their real faith in order to get a passing grade would be sued and terminated by the university. Further, there is no way that a college in the south would have an entire freshman class full of people willing to go along with such a request (save for the one hero of the story).

The fact that this movie was based on a debunked chain email is really the worst part, though. This is nothing more than pandering to group of people who cannot think for themselves and who will put money into the pockets of the film's creators.

This is easily the worst movie I've ever seen.

Instead it is heavily biased against the atheists using the "atheists are just angry at god for one reason or another" stereotype. On the other hand the christian arguments more often than not boil down to circular reasoning "god is real because it says so in the bible". They are potrayed as angry and hateful, but many atheist you will meet are the exact opposite. Her humanist bumper sticker is a joke. Most people who believe differently than you aren't abrasive and hostile, more often then not, they simply leave you alone. I was extremely disapointed with this. It perpetuates bad steriotypes and doesn't logically exammine both sides of the debate in detail. I can honestly say I hated this movie and I really didn't want to. As the daughter of parents who are catholic and atheist, I wanted it to find common ground and reconcile both belief's viewpoints, and to see the people who represent these two differing opinions potrayed accuratley and without bias. As an agnostic, this didn't sway me, it disgusted me. My father is nothing like the atheists potrayed in this movie, and most atheists aren't. And lets be real (spoiler) even though the professor converted at the end and always had a faith in God, he is put up on a petastal that is supposed to represents nonbelievers as a whole, and it only makes the other side look bad, because it potrays secular people as inherently moral-less and bad. Examples like this movie are exactly why people don't follow organized religon, if at all. Expand

We can point to many examples in Hollywood movies and Television where Christians are portrayed as unreasonable zealots. But this does not give us permission to return the favor and portray secular academia, or secular society in general, as antagonistic, cold, and shallow as this movie does. I typically hate to see stereotypical characters in any movie. In this movie it is far too obvious who the "bad-guys" are in this movie, and who the "good-guys" are. I would love to see a portrayal of a philosophical debate about theism that doesn't give us so many obvious reasons to dislike those in the "non-believers" camp. As a movie that "preaches to the choir, this movie is fine. But as a movie intended to be evangelistic, I do not recommend it. It is too heavy-handed and manipulative. And to think that it would not be perceived that way by most of secular society is insulting to them. Arrogance is typically more subtle, and therefore harder to find & acknowledge. Real humility requires depth of character and honest soul-searching. To portray a Christian Faith that has real depth and compassion, we must reflect the depth that exists in the secular world as well. Anything else cheapens the Human condition and, on an individual level, the human soul. In it's place I recommend "Chariots of Fire" or "To End all Wars" as tools for Evangelism. These are movies that acknowledge Human struggle, intellect, and Faith hand-in-hand where the viewer can easily walk away with a positive view of the Christian faith while not being spoon fed. It's high time that the Christian movie-making community raise the bar. A world that was lost in sin led Christ to the cross. It should lead Christians to excellence in all of it's Evangelical endeavors as well. Expand

Summary: God's Not Dead is filled with dull performances, stupid characters and random situations. 30/100 [D+]

I can't believe how successful this film was at the box office. Of course I know that a lot of movie goers are interested in this kind of religion matters, but c'mon $62 millions worldwide, that's a lot of money for a movie that cost only $2 millions. Anyway, it has a huge premise and it has Shane Harper in it, so I decided to see it. A few performances were likable but the whole film is a strange mess. It has lots of uninteresting subplots and most of the performances were dull, although I have to admit that at least the young actress Trisha LaFache and Disney's star Shane Harper were good during the film; that's why I give it a 1.5/5 rating, they both made this movie a little bit better; the rest of the cast is just plain awful.

The script is somewhat uneven because the movie kept me entertained at times, especially in all those power-point presentations that Shane's character had to explain; but there are several moments in the film where the dialog is just unbelievable, stupid and mindblowingly awful; for example, there is a scene where a girl tells to his boyfriend that she has cancer, and he answers: "Who cares?" or something like that I don't remember. I was like... are you serious? Who wrote this atrocious pile of crap? The whole movie is filled with moments like this one. Yes, it was interesting at times and it makes you think about your beliefs and the existentialism, but it is a shame that the film ended up as cheap propaganda.

The director Harold Cronk has no idea of how to treat these delicate themes and issues in his movie, such as: religion, abuse, etc. It is an empty, heartless and surreal flick. Although I enjoyed some moments with Shane Harper and Trisha LaFache, I just can't recommend it to anyone. It doesn't even live up its debatable premise, because the direction is so careless and the writing is uneven. God's Not Dead has some interesting power-point presentations very well handled by its main character, but it is sad that the movie ended up being cheap Christian propaganda when it could be a more thought-provoking film. It is a very pretentious movie; and the ending could not be more selfish, disgusting and ridiculous. [D+]

That's why I watched this movie. After a while it turned out to be even a little scary for me because it reminded me of Communist propaganda movies - only Communists were good, nice, likable guys unlike all the others who were bad, arrogant, lofty, ugly... Only hope for the bad guys was to become Communists. What did I see in this movie? Absolutely the same scheme, the same black and white world, only the positive guys turned out to be Christians and all the others are the bad ones. Is Christianity really supposed to be just another ideology? Did Jesus die on the cross to show his followers disrespect and demonization towards those who don't believe in him? Does God really need defenders or rather witnesses? These are my mixed feelings after watching God's Not Dead.
Two points for a few funny parts plus some good acting (Trisha LaFache as Amy).

There are horribly offensive stereotypes (the Muslim father, both the Chinese student and his father, the single black student who says anything). Every single character who believes in God is represented as caring, intelligent, level-headed but still passionate, whereas every other character is an idiot, or cruel, or hateful. The atheist professor's entire character and arc is a mockery that, as an atheist I am offended by. Most of the favorable reviews make claim of brain food and that this movie is though provoking, but all, and I mean every single argument Josh presents is flat out illogical. Not only that, but the professors inability to answer some of the worst arguments for God I've ever heard (and there are good ones) renders me speechless. Honestly there were points during which I considered this may actually be an atheist propaganda film, the idea being that a film so horrid in defense of God would only have negative backspin. Even from a purely film-based standpoint, the actor is bad, the writing is atrocious, the plot is all over the place. There are scenes so bad I think of Tommy Wiseau's "The Room". This movie is half so-bad-its-funny and half frothing-rage inducing. Mike McCahill of the Guardian put it aptly: Ban this sick filth.

TL:DR - It is NOT okay that this movie has been made, and it is NOT okay that there are people praising it.

I am therefore fairly adequately informed in the major points of the endless debate, mainstream Christianity vs. atheism, after five full decades of professional practice. In my opinion, then, this film may be well intended, but is too AMATEURISH, although it may serve as a teenagers’ starter.

Quite apart from the heavy BIAS apparent in the caricature of the professor, the evidently unanimous verdict of the student body, and the professor’s highly contrived dying conversion, this film fails completely in its prime objective of presenting a viable case for a belief in the Christians’ God, Nor is it fair in presenting the atheist case at its best. For example, leaving aside the latter, the courageous young apologist never picks up on the important point that the oft quoted assertion of Professor Stephen Hawking that the universe was self evolving since the law of gravity has always existed merely adopts the atheists’ hoary appeal to a god of the gaps in the form, physics and mathematics of the gaps!

The sooner that all parties to this paramount debate accept that there must be some First Cause, albeit inaccessible to humans bound by space and time, the better.

It was a war between the Bible and an anti-theist. It talked little about other religions, the conflicts, the people killed in the name of god, in the name of religion and the wars belief in different gods had led to, not to mention the atheists discriminated by Christians for hundreds of years.

It doesn't really play fair by talking about a different god, the "creator" of the universe, which is proven to exist in the movie and while there's the other one - the superior being in the sky who loves you. He will throw you in fire if you make into his naughty list but still loves you, which Atheists actually deny the existence of.

Talking about misrepresentation, it featured a Muslim father beating his daughter and throwing her out of his house after trying to kill her for practicing Christianity. And THAT is the foundation of Atheism, there are some people who realize that it is senseless to divide, kill, torture, mistreat people on the basis of religion.

"Atheists say that no one can prove the existence of God. They're right. But I say that no one can disprove that God exists." The most amusing quote of the movie. The sad part is that it summarizes the defense offered in the favor of God. The sadder part is that the vice versa could be said in the defense of Atheism.

I decided to watch this movie after reading a positive review by a believer on Amazon, I wanted to see what the believers had in their defense and it was not strong. The movie itself was really biased, it extremely favored, not the theists but, the Christians. On its way to proving that God is not dead, it also proves that God does not do a damn thing.

Would I recommend this movie to an extra-terrestrial alien trying to understand humans and their huge variety of gods to chose from? No.

It keeps your "God-given" brain dead, argues from illogical points of view like a 4th grader, relies on pure theory ignoring existing references of cultures such as that of the Indian texts as well as present artifacts pre-dating the writing of the Bible. It ignores everything and dismisses anyone against it as angry, idiotic, and unfulfilled. Really, what the F'man.

I have been raised both as a Catholic and as a Christian (Born-Again) for about 20 years of my life. I have to say that i have been exposed extensively to these two religious cultures more so than others who are new to this "belief" which is magnified by ignorant feelings closer to that of a cult rather than that of a personal revelation of self and our true history. I'm sad that it took me this long to look at the world outside "my" circle and understand that it is indeed peaceful... without these mongrels spiting aggression more so than any other culture i have encountered in life.

"God needs an empty vessel to use, so you should empty yourself and trust in him and his word completely." Yes, that tells you to ignore all forms of logic and to lift everything up to him regardless of what "you" think. Oh, there is no "you" there is only "God" now and his word so if you don't like it then burn in hell. That summarizes it as a whole.

It's funny that people are believing in a system that condemns people who do not have the same beliefs as you to burn forever in a lake of burning sulfur is both cruel and psychotic. If you are indeed given a brain, then analyze the existing references in the world. "Oh, but no... the ways of the world.." *sigh* ignorance is indeed bliss.

I think, the Christian bible is a carefully manipulated book that plays between the darker side of jealousy, adulterated love, and torture. "God is a jealous God." What? "God hates lukewarm people, as He will spit them out." Wait, so God is a radical being that only gives you the option believing in him regardless if you were altruistic and peaceful on your own. So yeah, you can't be happy in a Muslim family or any other family for that matter that does not have this one-sided God figure.

He wants the love or else He'll burn you forever regardless of who you are. "All will be given a chance to hear the word of God." So in short there can be no excuses for you not having the opportunity to be saved.

Reality check, those who have existed before the bible was written all went to hell then. *laugh* *laugh* laugh* I find it funny that Christian's go nuts as they find no purpose in life without a divine being waking them up every morning to listen to their stories.

This was the worst movie I have ever seen. To start with it fails to prove that God exists through science. I believe God does exist and that science can prove it. But this movie failed to do so. Then the clear message of the movie is good vs evil which is Christians vs everyone else- Atheists and Muslims to be specific. Not a good way to get people to believe. The acting is also horrible. Really I cannot believe anyone took this movie seriously at all. I cannot describe how wrong and shameful this movie is, not to mention how easily the producers of this movie fill their own pockets at the expense of true believing Christians. Although I'm an atheist, I'm offended for Christians, Atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, and many other groups that are slandered/ misrepresented in this film Expand

The nadir of cinema. Worse than The Phantom Menace (honestly!) Worse than an Adam Sandler 'comedy.'
Please do not watch, you're just encouraging them to make more of this type of drek.

Paint the protagonist as a likeable, earnest student and his antagonist as an a-hole of a college professor whom no one, not the most convinced atheist could like and who commits logical blunders any real philosophy prof would scream at. Have the student trot out all the usual dreary arguments for the existence of a big guy in the sky and you have a piece of propaganda only the blind legions of the true believers can enjoy. I didn't, couldn't, watch all the way to the end but I am guessing the prof was converted and that God was voted into existence by those poor classmates. Expand

I don't know what it is about these movies, but they almost always get it wrong! I can call up my church and get a better SHORT film than that of these high budget propaganda films (and yes, that's what they are). God's Not Dead is interesting, if only because of the shameful aspect that enough people saw this movie to warrant a sequel.

The concept of this movie makes no sense, either. So, a teacher is making his students confess that god is dead... wouldn't he... ya know... get fired for that? Regardless, he's still in the job, and now is in a debate with a religious kid, who, obviously, is the main character. A debate has to have good points to in order to be a good debate, and, with that in consideration, this debate sucks like no other. All the points said from both sides are all either half-brained, or misguided.

And, if that's not enough for you, this movie has one of the WORST messages in movie history, that being, if you're not Christian, you're magically a spawn of Satan. I'd like to break it to the writers just how wrongful, and Non-Christian that message is, but, they'd probably be writing 'Non-Christian Genocide 3' by the time that message would've been stuck in their heads.

I guess the main "villain" (if you can call him that) has some good acting, but everybody else in this movie acts like a robot on steroids.

Avoid like the plague.

Yet another self-righteous piece of crap from people who suffer from severe persecution complex. It hasYet another self-righteous piece of crap from people who suffer from severe persecution complex. It's preaching to the choir; this is what the religious right watches before writing their articles on Conservative Tribune or whatever. It has WAY too many plots and sub-plots, to the point of me saying "what the hell is going on?". It lacks any likeable characters, with the possible exception of the evil, oh so despicable, atheist professor. Kevin Sorbo does a half-decent job of portraying the evil atheist (and it's clear he has a lot of fun with the role), but even his character is too ridiculous to suspend belief. And there's a Muslim girl who is persecuted by her dad, because of course there is. I can see this film becoming a cult classic due to how awful it is, sharing that dubious honor with the likes of Reefer Madness and Troll 2.
Youth Church leaders who are looking for a christian film to show their youth should AVOID THIS TRASH at all costs. Show Facing the Giants or To Save a Life instead.

With how the film spread the word of God is remarkable. However, the plot and the character development was poorly made in such a way that you would expect to have more meaningful ending but ended with a nonsense death and oh so happy concert.

The biggest problem I have with this movie is the atheist philosophy professor. I know what they were doing. Make the philosophy teacher, an atheist of course, the biggest **** **** on Earth. He was acting like a theist (in the beginning of the movie, he makes everyone write "god is dead", essentially forcing everyone to share the same beliefs that he has, and this is exactly what theist do) and he was SO self-absorbed and narcissistic.
This movie is the intellectual equivalent of cancer.

Esta película, si se puede llamar así, es la peor basura que vi en mi vida. No tiene ningún sentido, es decir muere alguien y al negro le pinta decir HOY ES UN BUEN DÍA, mi recomendación al guionista es que se pegue un tiro.

I therefore decided to make up my own mind about it. This seemed to be a good choice after hearing that there was a lot of hype about it and that it could not be missed. Whatever could have been a great story with a satisfying ending to both Christians and non-Christians, was destroyed by two things: the absolute, almost aggressive bias towards non-believers and the excruciatingly bad acting. I could not even finish it. This kind of propagandist rubbish makes a joke of Christianity. Please don't waste your time watching it. Expand

Though it has its moments, God's Not Dead is a mediocre faith story that has a boring premise, uneven performances, a lack of depth, and a confused message.

With amateurish acting and repetitive themes too often seen in films of this genre, God's Not Dead will appeal to very few outside of its target audience.

It's just terrible is all. The acting sucks, the writing stinks, the editing pukes, the directing bombs, the cinematography blows, the costume design bursts, and the music dies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This whole movie is basically an advertisement for religion and the band "Newsboys". It portrays every non-christian character as evil or a dickhead. It shows and unrealistic representation of atheists and religious believers. A muslim man was shown to be abusive and hateful of christians, which is not the case for most people, and could be seen as racist (as it was to me). It says that without a God, there is no hope or reason in life. Overall, this movie is an unrealistic portrayal of Christianity, atheism, science and the whole world. Expand

This film is borderline hate speech against atheists. It presents a cartoonishly stupid scenario that could easily be avoided with one call to the college Dean.

God's Not Dead asks you to be a good Christian (even though NOBODY will be converted by this) and yet presents it to you in a way that I'm pretty sure Jesus himself would be mortified at what he sees in this movie.

When it comes to Christian movies, just stick to Hacksaw Ridge.

I was curious to watch this movie. I have always been interested in these debates because, here in Europe, the absence of faith and the growing number of atheists is very visible. However, I was absolutely disgusted because of the huge biasI was curious to watch this movie. I have always been interested in these debates because, here in Europe, the absence of faith and the growing number of atheists is very visible. However, I was absolutely disgusted because of the huge bias with which everything is addressed. The film was made and sponsored by evangelical Christians, but note that they call themselves just Christians. It turns out that Christianity is much more vast and has long been divided into hundreds of independent churches, all of them Christian, though discordant to each other. So do not be surprised that many Christians do not share the point of view of that Christians. I am a Roman Catholic Christian and I do not agree with this movie.

We cannot discuss faith because its something absolutely personal, but this movie brings us a debate in which God is exclusive property of a group of people: the evangelicals. However, if God is as our parents teach us, then He loves everyone and is the Lord of us all, even of those who do not believe in Him. The Muslims worship the same god as Christians but they were very mistreated in this film, along with atheists, who are truly diabolized. I know many atheists, but none of them are at war with God, as the teacher of this movie seems to be! Usually, they are very tolerant people, but they demand the right not to be converted by anyone to any faith and, we have to recognize, they have that right, and we, theists, have no right to judge them for it. The film, however, condemns and labels, which is ironic if we consider that the Bible is the first to warn against such judgments.

To summarize, the film is a huge insult to all who do not identify themselves as evangelical Christians, but insults particularly the atheists, agnostics and Muslims. The script is a colossal piece of propaganda that backfired. The cast is a disgrace, everything is a disgrace. Ultimately, the awful quality of the final product can end up being a valid argument for us to praying to God for a miracle: the total disappearance of the film from the shelves and from our memories. If such a miracle happened, I would only regret not being able to call the Vatican to warn about it, but I would be happy to believe that this film never existed.

Watch this film if you want something to be angry at or you’re a close minded religious fanatic I signed up for Metacritic just for this movie
It is a terribly unmasked propaganda film
And I would’ve given it better points Even if that was true and the acting was bearable. But I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes.
Furthermore what it does is make Christians out to be completely self righteous, pretentious spiteful bigots as it casts a dark shadow on Everyone else, and the worst off is the professor. Most professors are remarkably open-minded humanists, whereas he is clearly portrayed from the far right, as a biased tyrant. This is either a brilliant film by people who are showing a criticism of the worst kind of Christians, or it is a terrible embarrassment to the art form and to humanity.

Mind-numbingly stupid and in your face, God's Not Dead aims for saying, "All other religions or beliefs are bad, but our's is perfect!" The drama also will leave you screaming, "Who gives a sh*t!"
