This is the story of how they enter Section 9. With the disappearance of the Disney element, that was in Innocence, this film is the proper and better sequel. Once again the philosophical issues are woven throughout the story and bring the viewer into the tale as well as make them think. The CGI is lessened, though used to a better advantage. The only reason this doesn't work as well as the original is that it's missing the musicality and artistic direction the first had. If you enjoyed the original then forget Innocence and watch this one. If you haven't watched Ghost In The Shell, then do yourself a favour and watch it. Expand

The movie is very exposition heavy, it serves as a prequel to the original movie, but it doesn't has that philosophical element that was present in the original. Neither it has an identity as a movie, is just a continuation of the Arise series. Therefore, it feels like a very long episode. As a continuation it works fine, but judging it as a film alone, it's not. Expand

I didn't read (nor saw) the original Ghost In The Shell saga (yeah shame on me, this might even change my opinion on this feature). Understanding the characters, their goals and the events exposed during this movie was quite hard for me despite the fact that I totally fell in love with the very first movie (1996, and that I reviewed: link omitted per site rules). I only can compare to this first movie and the other action-based anime-related movies I saw before.

'Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie' starts with a weird introduction punctuated by a rather strange music setting up directly a part of the universe which will qualify the film until its end. You don't have to wait a long time to witness the first fights and you will soon realize that the directors had the brilliant idea to insert latex noises when the heroine is moving or fighting. In overall, the environment is surprisingly detailed (as in the first movie), the colours are great, but the staging and the way scenes are showed lack poetry and the unspeakable grandeur that characterized the first work. Characters aren't even introduced but I surely noticed how annoying the voice of Logicoma was. Fortunately it isn't a main protagonist. Events appear one after the other without letting us breathe some fresh air and the movie bombs us with many characters from start to end. Its pace is for me the worst flaw of this movie.
