A psychological thriller that fully realizes its topical premise, Get Out is an unsettling and terrifically acted debut by Jordan Peele, where every serious moment feels earned, and the jokes and scares land universally.

I was skeptical of it at first, since I knew the director was Jordan Peele, I thought "Oh this is going to be a comedy" or something. I WAS WRONG. The movie starts off with a light tone, and in the middle of it all it just gives out a feeling of discomfort. A feeling of awkwardness. It's a good feeling because that's what the movie sets out to achieve. The feeling of impending racism, of being stereotyped. The movie sets out to give us a feeling that we are not welcome here.

Coming into the cinema, I really had no clue what this movie was about, apart from what they divulged in the trailer, and the trailers even added to my confusion.

The movie does a great job of setting the overall eerie-ness of the atmosphere. The soundtrack does wonders to it as well! Although this movie isn't a comedy, it had some really funny scenes that you can tell Jordan Peele just couldn't help himself. The timing of the comedy, and the scarcity of it, is why this film is gold to me. The comedy comes at such a time where we're just coming off a heavy, intense scene, and the director just wants us to take a breather. A little comic relief. And it is effective! It is well timed. I applaud them for that.

I don't have anything to say about the acting other than, it was good, not great. What I will say though, is the movie is unoriginal. When I found out the real reason for everything at the end, I felt as if I've already seen this plot twist somewhere else before. A lo and behold, I remembered the movie "The Skeleton Key". It's not that old of a movie, but it had a similar plot. That's the only part where I felt this movie did weakly. The lack of originality. But where they lacked in originality, they made up for in execution! Bravo.

"Get Out" was an incredible movie, and of all the things I can reward, this one has been intriguing, you feel that you need to get out of a serious problem like that of the protagonist of the film, and this movie is going to grab you from the chair.

No, seriously, this will be the number one movie of 2017 no doubt. It’s already earned a number 1 spot on my top 10 list of 2017, and its only March. Jordan Peele is a genius. This movie is genius and it deserves all of the awards and praise.

Most people are chalking this up as a movie about racism, but don’t let that deter you from seeing it(if you’re that kind of person that is). From the beginning of the movie right up until the final moments, I was sitting, quite literally, on the edge of my seat. It will be a movie that will not only entertain you, but make you think as well. It’s got a lot of a Stepford Wives feel, and a little bit of an old school horror flick feel. So basically, it is awesome. The moments leading up the end will have you not wanting to blink, there’s a slight twist which most people will see coming, but some may not. Either way, it was satisfying.

Let’s talk about how this was Jordan Peele’s directing debut! I cannot believe we have not seen more from him before this. He’s a creative genius, and now that I know he has four more movies in the works I cannot wait. I will be supporting him until the end of my life. Perhaps one of the best directed movies I have ever seen. I love the fact he teamed up with Jason Blum, as we all know is another one of my favorites. From the cinematography to the story to the actors he chose and the blunt focus on racism, it was all perfect. He wrote a story that people need to see, and one that will frighten you honestly. Hand claps for Peele! He deserves it, and if he doesn’t get nominated and WIN some sort of award for this movie, we’ll all know it’s rigged.

The actors he chose for the characters couldn’t have been better chosen. From Allison Williams as the perfect daughter, to Bradley Whitford as the caring father, to LilRel Howery as the comedic relief and awesome best friend, to our main character Daniel Kaluuya, it was all perfect.

Jordan Peele's directorial debut?! A work this polished and well-executed is something many directors who have been in the game for years fail to achieve. The performances are incredible. If Daniel Kaluuya does not get on Oscar for hisJordan Peele's directorial debut?! A work this polished and well-executed is something many directors who have been in the game for years fail to achieve. The performances are incredible. If Daniel Kaluuya does not get on Oscar for his performance here then something has gone horribly wrong. His performance as a guy who is just trying to make the best of an awkward scenario, but slowly losing his ability to as things get progressively stranger is nothing short of absolutely believable. The rest of the cast is game as well. They're manipulation and bizarre behavior set you on edge in ways few other movies can. The scenes are lovingly crafted and the choice in music that accompanies them is spot on.

It's the originality that ultimately wins the day. First time director Peele toys with your expectations in interesting ways. He's done so since before the movie even came out. The social-commentary in regards to racial tensions is something that stirred up a lot of controversy. There are people who won't even give the movie a shot as a result. Their loss. The satire not only shines light on some significant social issues, but is excellently weaved into the plot as a reason to make the main character uncomfortable with meeting his girlfriend's parents in the first place. Needless to day, partially because so many others have said it, it's not racist. Not some middle finger to white people or anything like that. But, whatever. Not gonna bother talking about it any further. People have already made up their minds on what they think this is about.

If the movie has one flaw it's that you can kind of pick out the twists before they happen. Don't get me wrong, there are still surprises in store. It's just that the big reveal as to why exactly all of this is happening is evident right before it is revealed. It was too well telegraphed to not become immediately obvious. Then there's the bit that has to do with a significant character to the plot. It was obvious what was going to happen there from the trailers. Still, plenty of weirdness and questions you'll find yourself asking (which will get answered).

The movie is essentially an awkward introduction to being introduced to the parents of a significant other. The difference from this and, say, the Ben Stiller comedy "Meet the Parents" is the horror angle. Instead of increasingly upping the humor, Get Out ups the mystery, tension, and uncomfortable nature of the events. Speaking of the humor, it's worth noting just how surprisingly funny the movie is. Most of it comes from Lil Rel Howery, the main character's best friend. He serves as the comic relief and is given some absolutely hilarious lines that are well acted. Simply put, Get Out is one heck of a horror-comedy and a stunning directorial debut from Jordan Peele. I can't get over how talented the cast is, the unique and well-shot scenes, the clever ways it plays with expectations, and just all around uniqueness. Get Out proves to be a standout in the ever crowded horror genre. It's rare these days to see a movie in this genre so well made. It's becoming more common, but still far too infrequent. The movie is simply a breath of fresh air and a clear contender for best movie of the year.

Even the few who will predict the "what" will likely never be able to predict the "why". And the "how" is incredibly entertaining to watch. Peele manages to hinge the film on not one reveal, but multiple, which teases the fun out over the run time of the film. The only thing that keeps me from giving Get Out a "10" is that once the reveals are done with, the movie began to drag for me. This encompasses the last 15 minutes, or so, of the film. Expand

Saw this because it was getting such raves. Agree with someone else that this was more of a "psychological thriller shrouded in social commentary" which IS right up my ally. I'm giving it a "10" not because it is perfect, but because it breaks new ground, showing race from the outsider point of view. I thoroughly felt Chris' unease every step of the way. After you watch it, go to BuzzFeed for the 22 things you probably missed. The film is loaded with symbolism, most of which I DID miss. I think that's what elevates the film above pure horror--the directer was extremely crafty. And witty to boot. Kudus! i look forward to his next.... Expand

What's it like?: (All in trailer!) Caucasian girl invites African American boyfriend to see her parents in the suburbs for the first time, but everything feels weird from the beginning, including the closet-racist parents, robot-like maid and groundsman (both African American), etc. In the end, the two of them need to 'Get Out' of that suburb. It's a weird, shocking and surprising thriller that puts a new spin on race relations in the US.
>
Pros:
>
1. The film gives a weird vibe from the very beginning to the very end, making me tense the whole time.
>
2. There are many shocking and surprising instances that made me jump out of my seat! They are intelligent thrills not cheap ones.
>
3. The film reminds the viewers of the race relations in the US, that despite the prohibition of slavery in the 1860s and the Civil Rights Act of the 1960s, still create uneasiness among Americans. It then goes further to suggest that nothing has really changed.
>
Cons: >
1. There is the usual cliche of people not moving fast enough to Get Out! Why are some people so complacent despite them being smart people and with all the warnings available? Ha ha...
>
2. There are some medical procedures portrayed that should not be feasible at this time. The author has taken this film into science fiction territory, when he need not do so.
>
3. What had happened to the maid and the groundsman doesn't make sense. Why choose them for that purpose? >
How would the different age groups rate it?
Children: (The film is not rated for them.)
Teenagers: For those who can see this R-rated film, it’s an Excellent. Young adults: Excellent
Medium age adults: Excellent
Old adults: Excellent
My rating: 5/5 (no half scores). Pay to watch it in the cinema and then buy the DVD.

Recently, I liked “Green Room”, and “Split”, but it continues to be a hard genre to break out with a truly original idea. Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” felt like the universe had heard my prayers. A smart satire on social commentary with genuine humor, and yet a still bone chilling plot? How have we been so blessed? The balance of horror and comedy is weighted perfectly, with every release of laughter being used to reset the suspense, giving the audience the chance to build back up to paralyzing fear over and over again. All of the performances were pitch perfect (Alison Williams with the keys!), and I anticipate this is only the beginning of Daniel Kaluuya’s rise. I often complain to my friends that the biggest disservice of the horror/thriller genre is that by pigeonholing something as “a scary movie”, you isolate a whole demographic of people who want to just go see a blockbuster on the weekends. Having Peele’s name attached and released by Universal on the perfect weekend (only up against week 3 of Lego Batman) gave this layered story a chance to breathe and be appreciated for what it is. Creepy as all hell, and maybe a little too believable. 9.2/10 Expand

I don’t like to use rotten tomatoes to evaluate movies but damn! This is crazy. So I went to see it and… it is pretty good. Good for comedy, but horror?

Let me get it straight first: I think it is a very good movie! It is smart, well-shot and original. I think it tangled a very taboo subject and successfully. It asked the question: are really comfortable with racial differences. Unlike 90% of the movies today that treated way too seriously than it is, it poked fun of it by showing some of the social awkwardness. They would keep on saying things like “black is the new white” and “I would vote for Obama a third time” but on the other hand gave the main character with a strange eye. Admitted we all have it once in a while when we first meet diversity. It poked fun of people’s political correctness yet ignorance on the inside. I find it funny and refreshing. However, the problem is this kept on repeating and feel very unrealistic. I felt like I was watching an M Night Shyamalan. Speaking of which, at times I even wondered if the film directed by him because there were so many similarities to his styles, such as the awkward dialogues, constant and random close ups and most importantly, very out of nowhere twist which I won’t spoil.

I did like the cinematography. I liked the set. The house looked like familiar yet unique. It looks like somewhere your neighbor lives but to me it also felt like one of those southern cotton farm in the old times. It gave me a sense of uncomfartability but it doesn’t creep me out, which I would expect from an horror film. I think the problem is that everything is way too well polished. By that I meant that every things looked way too clean and it felt the budget was way bigger than it was (5 mil). Split on the other hand, had a slightly bigger budget but it had a more indie look, which helped to raise the suspense and dread. One thing I did like is the sunken place. I won’t spoil it, because it is hard to describe anyways, but just watch…..

The big problem is that the comedy went too far, especially from the actor Lil Rel Howery. He is very good and very likable, but his section is so over-the-top that it clashes with the tone of the movie. Long story short, I liked it as a social commentary rather than a thriller or horror film. I felt the advertising is very misleading. There were many plot holes, which again, I don’t want to spoil. Good Movie, but great, not really!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie had me on the edge of my seat yelling GET OUTTT!!. The play on stereotypes made for a very interesting, hilarious, and bloody tale. However, as I sat there watching in shock I began to predict small minded people of all cultures taking this film seriously. The writers fictional play on sinister whites abducting and victimizing naive blacks (for money by the way) by taking their stereotypical "genetic assets" and using them for themselves was outright insane. Clearly these scenes hit the psyche and pulled the peculiar workings of slavery out of the viewers consciousness. It was entertaining, dark, and comedic, although I am sure someone left feeling offended while others left believing these things are actually possible. I was thoroughly entertained and satisfied to watch a good film created by blacks that did not resort to the usual hood story. I was thinking Alfred Hitchcock weird the whole time. It went bloody and over the top at the end but that's horror for you. I have not witnessed a creepier movie family since Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Rose had me terrified at the end, she played a cold blooded psychopath quite well. Expand

This is one of the best suspense-thrillers of the last decade. Period. A superb cast, excellent direction and story, with plenty of twists and a supporting cast that fills out the corners. Funny when it needs to be, and creepy, crawly and get under your skin for the rest. Jordan Peele has knocked it out of the park with his first directorial effort. Can't want to see what he has planned next!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting and casting is pretty good but the whole racist thing isn't necessary at all. Have the idea that they did that just to create a buzz. They could've done the story without the racial issue and then it would've been less predictable and better IMO. At one moment I had the feeling I was watching a comedy ("Get em grandpa!") The maiden was scary AF though. Expand

The movie feeds off a paranoia that the majority of the United States population doesn’t experience on a regular basis. Fake smiles and awkward handling of racially charged conversations are masterfully put on display in the first half of the movie. The cracks in the white facade intensify at a steady pace. Uncomfortable questions or points start popping up in the viewer's mind. What is up with the eclectic decor (explicitly called out)? Why are all the black “caretakers” acting “white” on the property? Are we, as white people, really this ignorant? In short, you start to feel an entire system is out to get our protagonist. Admittedly, an early scene explicitly sets the stage up. Mainstream horror films play it safe with the usual jump scares and gory imagery. To be sure, Get Out sports a fair amount of both elements. At some point, all too shockingly familiar racism starts to out scare the traditional horror cliches. Unfortunately, several dumb horror tropes also make an appearance. For example, you have that one horror scene where you have an odd figure chopping wood. The others tropes I could list involve spoilers. The acting is consistently top notch from all involved. I only have one minor quip with the casting choice of a peripheral character. The character certainly sticks out when you notice him and the inclusion is somewhat puzzling. Overall, the subject matter more than makes up for Get Out's very minor shortcomings. How often do movies aimed at a mainstream audience have the audacity to call out whites in America? The timing of the film’s release is sadly impeccable. Racism is alive and well in our country. America "smiled" when she elected Trump as POTUS. I congratulate Jordan Peele for his impressive foray into directing. The film is dense and I certainly missed a few points on my first viewing. Expand

People are safe when they are in the light. Horror movies find their greatest tension at night, not the day. Things do not go bump in the broad daylight. The light shows the truth, whereas darkness hides it and obscures it turning it into the unknown. White is safety. White lights envelope characters in a hidden suit of armor. On the other side of things, black has come to be seen as death and has a far more sinister connotation. The grim reaper wears black, witches wear black, the term black magic, and the darkness itself is black. Black is, more often than not, evil. But, it is through horror movies that these preconceived notions have always been challenged. In the tremendous horror film Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is at her greatest danger in the light. Hitchcock, knowing that people equate white with safety, dumps his protagonist in a bright, white-lit bathroom where she quickly succumbs to the violence of Norman Bates. While horror films today still rely upon people's thoughts regarding white and black, Psycho and many other films saw an opportunity to subvert expectations and show audiences that the daylight is hardly the armor they once perceived it to be. George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead took it even a step further and it is that film that serves as the greatest influence of Jordan Peele's Get Out.

In that film, Ben (Duane Jones) is the only black character and he is also the protagonist. Alongside him are exclusively white zombies and the catatonic white girl Barbra. These portrayals served as the basis for Richard Dyer's brilliant series of essays entitled, White. In these pieces, Dyer argued that white and black came to mean something entirely different in Romero's film. While beforehand, white had always meant pure and holy, whereas black was the exact opposite, Night of the Living Dead changed the talking points. In the film, white came to mean death. It represented order and rigidity. White was lifelessness and, as a result, white people had become zombies. Meanwhile, black was the presence of life. No longer was black the absence of color (life), it was instead the very embodiment of it with it standing it contrast to the zombie-like portrayal of whites. That said, Dyer also asserts that we can only see this dichotomy when whites and blacks are portrayed together. In films with exclusively white casts, such as Sam Mendes' American Beauty, audiences are blind to the whiteness of the characters. The whiteness is simply who they are and audiences miss just how much the characters in films such as that resemble the same lifelessness and rigidity of the zombies in Night of the Living Dead. However, by presenting whites and blacks in contrast to one another, Get Out is able to explore the relationship between the two colors in an entirely racial context.

As is readily apparent in the film, the whites are zombies. They are hypnotized and robotic, they are the pure embodiment of order and rigidity. When Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) is in their presence, they all uniformly look at him and stare him down. Their manner of speech is very structured, their commentary predictable (I knew INSERT BLACK ATHLETE or the Obama comments), and their seemingly positive reception towards Chris feels pre-coded. Everything is artificial in this environment and while the film shows it in a humorous light, the lifelessness of this gathering of people is astounding. When the Armitage family throws their yearly party, which is on the same day every year, the entirety of the guests pull up at the same exact time. When they play bingo, everybody wins. While these people may not be zombies, they certainly act like mindless zombies who simply go through the motions of living and are merely watching themselves life.

This, of course, is why the Armitages and other white families utilize blacks. Kidnapping them or roping them in via Rose (Alison Williams), the people of this suburb use black people as vessels for life. Whether it is to live again, to see, or any number of reasons, the whites in the film recognize that the blacks have something they do not: life. Chris is the very embodiment of life. He is energetic and, though cautious about meeting her parents, in love with Rose. He is living life to the fullest at this point in his life and looking positively towards the future. Even better, he is black. Per Dyer, black represents life and this is very much the case in Get Out. His friend Rod (Lil Rey Howery) is boisterous and loud, spitting out comical lines at the speed of light. Compared to every white character in the film, this duo of black characters are full of energy. Every white character, aside from when they put up a facade to trick blacks, just float by.

Jordan Peele's first outing as a writer (co-writer, actually) on a major Hollywood production brought us the 2016 action-comedy "Keanu", a movie that was much better than it had any right to be given its absurd premise. Now, not only writingJordan Peele's first outing as a writer (co-writer, actually) on a major Hollywood production brought us the 2016 action-comedy "Keanu", a movie that was much better than it had any right to be given its absurd premise. Now, not only writing solo, Peele finds himself in the director's chair with "Get Out", a film that hundreds or even thousands of aspiring directors and screenwriters would kill to have as their first. Promised a race-savvy mix of comedy and horror going in, I can say first-hand that this movie does not disappoint. Peele has truly achieved something great here.

For those of you who haven't seen the trailers or have no friends who have gone to see it already (I would recommend moving out from under the rock beneath which you reside, in either circumstance), allow me to bring you up to speed with the rest of the viewing world. Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) is preparing for the milestone of all milestones in dating: meeting the parents of his girlfriend Rose Armitage (Allison Williams), Missy and Dean (Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford, respectively). Now, this would be stressful enough as is, but the fact that Chris is black and Rose is white makes things even worse in the mind of the former. She implores him not to worry--Dean would have voted for Obama a third time if he could have, Chris (and the audience) are informed--but once they arrive, things take a turn away from the usual nervous, eager-to-impress overreactions into situations that are increasingly absurd and disturbing in equal measure. The growth in the number of older white people interested in him (Stephen Root), the strange behavior of the only other black people on the property (Betty Gabriel, Marcus Henderson, LaKeith Stanfield), and a seeming universally mutual desire to keep him cut off from his friends in the outside world (Lil Rey Howery) all lead Chris to believe that he has been brought to the Armitages' remote lake house for different purposes entirely (I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that yes, he has).

This could easily have been another forgettable, run-of-the-mill horror thriller that pits blacks against whites in the name of some cheap thrills and big box office returns. Luckily for Peele, he demonstrates immense skill as a writer, employing a sort of "less is more" strategy and simply putting together the pieces that he has assembled into a structure that audiences will understand as it is but contains other, more subtle ideas and meanings for them to discover with the use of a little brainpower. He's also careful not to give away too much too fast (as many others in the genre often do), and as the film first creeps and then full-on sprints towards its unbelievable conclusion, a twist better than any seen in horror in the last two decades--better even than the one in "Don't Breathe", or the hokey but effective 'the killer was the corpse in the bathroom' bit from "Saw"--is likely to have you on the edge of your seat, scared out of your wits but practically begging for more. Additionally, Peele works the horror-comedy angle effectively to provide much-needed comic relief when things start getting too serious, and the pitch-black humor thrown into some scenes (one that comes to mind is a time towards the beginning when, after learning of a car accident Chris and Rose were in because of a deer, Dean comments that he wants to "kill them all" because there are "just too many of them", unsettling his daughter's boyfriend) makes them all the sweeter for their unmatchable comic timing perfected on "Key and Peele". Perhaps best of all is--and hold on to your hats for this one, people--there is some real depth and complexity of character here beyond what is immediately obvious (*chorus of shocked gasps*). The white people in the film are not socially backwards, ultra-violent neo-Nazis. They are upper-middle class liberals, and they do what they do not because they hate blacks but, in a bit of a surprise reversal, because they adore them. As one character puts it, "Black is in style."

It's great to me that Peele had such an amazing collection of talent, both in front of the camera and behind it, working to help his vision become what it was truly meant to be. The score by Michael Abels in particular stands out to me for its successful return of abrupt, screeching violin to horror movie soundtracks for the purposes of suspense creation (I could've sworn I was watching a John Carpenter film), and classic songs like "Run Rabbit Run" are used to hilariously frightening effect. Kaluuya is likable and even fascinating in some bits as the protagonist, Whitford is so friendly and charming as Dean that you hope and pray he doesn't turn out evil, and while I can't say too much without some major spoilers, Williams is effective in unexpected ways as Rose. The end result is utterly immaculate, and deservedly so.

I have only two things left to say. "Bravo!" is one. "More, please!" is the other. 10/10

A rare bird, this, no? You could predict the quality – or at least freshness – from the trailers but nothing will quite prepare you for this joyride which is a contender for the best horror movie of recent times, and crafty enough to satisfy also those who don’t really care about horror movies. Such as me.

Brother (Daniel Kaluuya) dating a white girl (Allison Williams) is dragged to her family estate for the weekend. But something is off from the very start of the journey, and it gets stranger by the minute. There’s a variety of cool cats in smaller supporting roles and you will probably not know them by name, but I will list them anyway: Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener as the mother and father, Caleb Landry Jones as the brother, Betty Gabriel as the house maid, LilRel Howery as one of the funniest cases of black guy acting like Hollywood comedy black guy I can remember. IMDb claims he is a rising stand-up comedy star, and he’s surely an instant crowd-pleaser here. You will love every precious minute the guy gets to grace the screen.

But back to the movie at hand. „Get Out“ is an effective horror piece but director-screenwriter Jordan Peele’s ambitions are decidedly wider than that, and he can meet the high standards that he has set. If I have to to summarize his biggest accomplishment, then I would say that Peele proves to be a master storyteller. There’s a surprising diversity and depth to material. It can be followed as social commentary (what it’s like to be different; how covertly racist the modern society can be), classic horror story (adventurer braving the lands unknown) and a crafty cat-and-mouse thriller where the joy of watching rises from following how every "chess piece" is moved and how the others react.

In addition, there’s an unexpected comic relief going on, mainly acted out by LilRey Howrey as mentioned above. And last but not least, the movie makers have really taken their time with the characters and the setting to build an natural, convincing atmosphere which can stand on its own and doesn’t have to rely on cheap horror tactics as sudden horrifying noises and movements. Peele actually uses some of those too, but in a way that doesn’t feel exploitative; these help to strenghten the oppressive atmosphere and further show how the main character feels.

If I may nitpick a little, the central hero deserves to have some more individuality because he mostly gets to react to awkward and/or unpleasant situations like in black version of „Curb Your Enthusiasm“ or something. This one-note-performance by Kaluuya honestly gets a bit monotone before the action-filled final act.

But all in all, the chosen approach is understandable because „Get Out“ is only 103 minutes long and has a lot happening. And to credit the cast one more time, everybody’s offering a top-quality work, even the people in smallest roles. Considering how much their faces are shown up-close, it’s no mean feat. I’d even call it one of the most memorable ensemble movies of recent times.

There are also some pacing issues, mostly during the end which would be more hard-hitting if played out faster, especially as some major turns are not that hard to figure out by the middle. Of course, that would require attentive watching and not checking your phone all the time, as many youngsters do these days. Also, horror fans would probably like to see more gore but this is not a problem in itself. So the movie’s not near perfect but what is, eh?

„Get Out“ is that rare kind of horror movie that really deserves some major-ass awards or nominations. Maybe Oscar noms for original screenplay, directing, and several possible picks from supporting cast (Betty Gabriel, Bradley Whitford, LilRel Howery if I can pick three). If you liked this little gem that deserves to be called born classic, then you will be pleased to know that it’s been already popular in cinemas. It only cost 4.5 million USD and has already brought 113 mil from the U.S. box office alone.

"Get Out" is the best movie of 2017 I’ve seen yet. And I have seen ten! Get off your ass and run towards the cinemas!

If you think This movie is about race baiting, racesploitation, then you fell victim to the true meaning behind the film. Basically **** happens in this movie, and it's **** up, as it is in EVERY Horror/Thriller. Texas Chainsaw, Hostel, etc. **** up **** happens in those movies, and some **** up **** happens in this movie. The MAIN point of this movie is this: At the end, when he calls 911... You know it won't help him, and when the emergency lights show up... Unlike EVERY movie where this means the protagonist(s) is/are safe... it doesn't mean the protagonist in this movie is safe, it means he is screwed... Think about that... As the viewer, you think "Ohh **** the cops showed up! He's ****" That's not the way people think in most movies, we think "YAY! The protagonist is safe!"... Not in this, and that's our OWN rationale reaching for that conclusion. Also, The underlining motivations behind the evil characters is NOT racist. We assume it is, and that's on us. SPOILER!

When the daughter says "grandma" and "Get him Grandpa" That shows they CHOSE the bodies they liked the most, and race didn't play a part. We assumed they "enslaved" the nanny, and the grounds keeper, but they are not. The whole point of this movie was to provide cheap thrills, as any movie in this class does, AND to demonstrate how people see race as motivations behind things. WE see it, my friends who are Black/Asian/First Nations/White saw racism when there wasn't any, and then WE saw the Whole Black-lives matter movement summed up at the end where the cops don't necessarily mean he's safe...

**** Brilliant.

The social satire cuts deep, especially in its revelation of a white liberal racism outside the stereotypical redneck variety, but the film relents a bit in the final act. Same goes for the horror elements; the finale is a bit of a stretch (even if it is fittingly cathartic) and the movie doesn't reach for the extreme hard enough to justify its more out-there elements (Behold the Coagula). It kind of falls awkwardly in the middle; a half measure.

A very good movie. There are two reasons why this movie stands out; 1) it perfectly blends horror and comedy, something most movies fail to do and 2) the music was perfect. Definitely one of the better horror movies of recent years.

I've seen horror movies with killer dolls, demonic monsters, serial killers, and ghost, but yet this was more intense and had me on edge through out. Also the funniest as well, surprisingly.

"Get Out" is an impressive director debut from Jordan Peele, who made one of the most interesting films that came out this year. Interesting like how it's all mixed together with the horror element and the hidden symbolism within it's story. How the social commentary was told in such a way that no other film has done before, cleverly executed and more assured.

I'm glad Daniel Kaluuya, (Best known for "Black Mirror") is getting some work, because he's incredible.

The film as you can guess is pretty unoriginal in it's attempt to be a story. I really don't have much positive to say about the movie, I wasn't scared, I wasn't in "Suspense". The premise of the movie is that it leads you to believe that "These perfect white liberals are kidnapping black people to turn them into sex slaves". And like an M night shyamalan twist, it turns out they are actually "Body Snatching" black people. I say rent it when it comes out on DvD, I mean it's an "Ok" movie, but nothing to really get out and go to theaters about. Expand

Get out is one of the worst horror movies ever, I discovered that Jordan Peele is a terrible actor AND a terrible director and he will go down as one of the worst artist in the movie industry.

The story was awful, the story was way too well constructed to be interesting and the pacing was incredible which I really didn't appreciate.
The characters were terrible, they were too well acted and were too entertaining to be good, I actually felt invested to what was going to happen to the main character which was a huge let down.

So if you have any kind of intelligence do not watch get out, it's too original, too well acted and the story was too interesting and well done, it's an objectively bad film and I feel sorry for anyone who would like it.

The film had a lot to say, and a highly pertinent and important agenda, but it was hokey and clunky in its delivery. The dialogue is disgracefully ugly, most of the characters are thinly written and generally unlikable, and the narrative and themes critics are calling "subversive" and "satirical" are too conspicuous and on the nose to convey the sort of subtlety that marks great films of the genre. This movie is well shot, well acted, and bares a solid last 20 minutes. Otherwise, it's complete and utter garbage that only takes low hanging fruit at the expense of its, again, very important message. Very confused by the critics' response on this one. Expand

The film approaches horror with fewer jumpscares (though there was at least one), and more conceptual fear. Chris faces an inescapable estate where all the residents and visitors know some terrible secret kept hidden from him. I loved this movie, it was so refreshing to watch. The main character played by Daniel Kaluuya is excelent, throughout the runtime of this film he is always curious about everything that is going on around him. It was so nice to see a smart lead character who you can root for and not scream while watching "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!". He always makes the decisions that you want him to make. The whole plot of the story was so original that you could never guess what was coming even if you thought you did. The comedy aspect was mostly given by Lilrey Howery and was sooo funny and always showed up at the right time. The main flaw i have with this film is that i think it sometimes doesn't know when to be a horror or a comedy and i wish they could of done a little better with that element of the film. "get out" was a movie which critics with the usual "don't watch it alone!" sentence. but should u take that advice seriously?
the script was not good at all you could understand it from the opening sequence when the black guy say what ever he's doin! and there are a lot of wholes in it like why the girl keeps the pic of her ex-boyfriends so unsecured? and there is no convincing reason why they hunt down black people?! beside the script the acting was so amateur. Daniel Kaluuya is like flirting all the time in the movie because of the way he looks other actors.
the lighting and the colors which used in the movie was more of a rom-com lighting than a horror movie. all those pale blue and soft sunshine was not scary at all. the whole time you watching the movie the director is telling u there is something bad gonna happen for the main character and guess what?? it will! what I'm saying is there is absolutely no suspension. many may say this movie was good because it was different and there were no ghosts, monsters or other stuffs and it was all with every day objects. okay it was but, duh! not any real thing is scary! I mean look at the "it follows". the great underrated movie of 2014. or even "don't breath". these are different too. but the thing that made "get out" so special for critics and overrated was the fact that, get out was about BLACK PEOPLE and RACISM.
in the end "get out" is not a movie which you would talk about it with your friends to tell them how brave you are!

Seemingly better and a little more sophisticated than any conventional movie about a guest who having come into an apparently welcoming ambiance and finding himself to be up **** creek without a paddle, nevertheless miraculously escapes skipping from one cliché to another. As it's often the case with the movies of this kind, it gives a lot of expectations at the beginning but doesn't live up to them to the end. "No, no" - I kept telling myself - "it's certainly NOT THIS kind of a movie! It seems too subtle, too intelligent, with all this decent acting, plausible characters, camera work and so on and so on, it seems to be too good to be THIS KIND of a movie. It would be too simple, too stupid if all this is only about that a lovely ambiance is, in fact, not lovely but lethal and all those nice people are not nice at all but, in fact, dangerous maniacs, psychopaths, cannibals, rippers, crazy surgeons an so on..." "No, no" - I kept telling myself when the movie waddled into its second half and some alarming signs began appearing more and more persistently, suggesting that maybe once again I'd put a little more optimism in my anticipations than premises actually required... In short - yes, IT IS this kind of a movie - standard and unimaginative. My recommendation is to stay away from it! Expand

Its stranger in a strange land premise is grounded enough in reality that the "that's odd" moments don't make you think the main characters must be intentionally stupid to move the plot along. Much of the charm of this movie is derived in a Joss Whedon like way by playing against the tropes we have been conditioned to expect. Get Out deserves more than the 8 I gave it, but my tastes tend more towards the blockbuster spectacle. For the smaller more atmospheric movie that it is, it probably should be a 9. a mind is a terrible thing to waste..

Get Out

How often do we encounter actors speaking through their eyes? Daniel Kaluuya is riveting in his scared-to-death sequences (especially the first time when Catherine Keener hypnotizes him) and what really gets you here is that, so is the audience. Get Out is of course Jordan Peele's show in every frame but it is more of the Jordan-the director and not Jordan-the writer, for even though being familiar with the concept or idea the audience seems to fall into his world within the first act which was actually shot more beautifully and with excellent detailing for Jordan knew that this is the part where the audience may go off track and after the movie has surpassed the first act and the introduction of its creepy world and dreadful characters, the premise of the movie will easily favour in for the rest of the acts. Besides Daniel there is very little of the other cast to perform on or project themselves to that range so it resides within his territory and he has taken care of it, nicely. Get Out is smart, a bit shady and surprisingly filled with stunning violent sequences which ups the ante a bit and boosts the movie to the whole new level where it plays off in the major league against the action sequences of the movies like The Revenant and The Atomic Blonde.

Just made me want to leave the theater. I felt cheated of my $15. My husband and our friend felt the same. This film is transparently symbolic: how alien a black guy feels in the middle of white people, how much violence there is in society, how the white people have the power, control the blacks, and entertain clichés about them, and so on. Guess who's coming for dinner was so much more subtle! And it was fun. Nowadays it looks like a young filmmaker needs to put violence in his film to be noticed because people got desensitized. I agree with the reviews which say that this film got excellent reviews from the critics simply because they were afraid of being called racist. Expand

The writer/director understands moviemaking craft better than many given a shot and shows some promise. Unfortunately it completely dissolves into sheer ridiculous contrived silly nonsense and tries to go black humor which while understandable undermines the thriller aspect.
Good thriller or horror movies have the very difficult task of being original and impactful yet not going too over-the-top, something the great majority of these kind of flicks fail at nowadays and most now making them probably don't even care, which is why they aren't really any good! While at the same time the bar has maybe never been lower with the youth audience just eating the junk up not knowing how good it once was or could be.
