The storyline was gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. The themes explored in the movie, such as racism and social commentary, were very relevant and thought-provoking. His portrayal of the main character's emotional journey was truly impressive.

The cinematography and editing were also very well done. The use of colors and camera angles added to the overall mood and atmosphere of the film. The pacing of the movie was just right, not too slow or too fast, and the suspenseful scenes were executed with great precision.

Overall, "Get Out" is a must-see movie that will leave you thinking long after it's over. It's a great example of how horror films can be used to explore deeper social issues, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.… Expand

Really good, original and captivating, but not scary per se. Movie doesn't have an agenda, it is openly about racism from the first second to the last. I didn’t like the cinematography, the mixture of light blue and warm hues seemed pretty janky to me. There was also some warp stabiliser apparent especially for the car scenes. The dialogue quality was a little uneven, mostly on the men sounding a little crackly like hair rubbing on a microphone. The music was memorable although some choices didn’t feel appropriate. Some moments also felt scripted rather than natural. These are minor complaints though and only have a minor negative impact on the film. Get Out reminded me much more of Society (1989) and The Stepford Wives (1975) than Fight for Your Life (1977) which is a good thing as Fight for Your Life is a very obvious film whilst Get Out is more unexpected. There are some truly great moments. Worth watching.… Expand

The novel's topic made me think of the Hostel television series and the Skeleton Key movie. However, this film is superior to both. because political sentiments exist. I'd advise it to anyone looking to have a nice time.

'Get Out' was very highly recommended by a friend, also a fellow film enthusiast, and the subject matter of the film really interested me. Add to that a very promising trailer, the award nominations and wins and mostly positive word of mouth'Get Out' was very highly recommended by a friend, also a fellow film enthusiast, and the subject matter of the film really interested me. Add to that a very promising trailer, the award nominations and wins and mostly positive word of mouth (even with the very vocal detractors), and interest was higher.

High expectations were not only met but also exceeded. Apologies for the cliché, but to me that is the best way to sum up my personal experience watching 'Get Out'. Can totally see why it was as well received as it was, though can also see why it has divided audiences on here. While it will never be one of my favourite films, 'Get Out' is among the better films of 2017 and does live up to the hype.

It's an incredibly well-made film visually, with stylish and unsettling cinematography and editing and some disturbingly surreal imagery that adds to, and enhances, the unease and sense of dread.

That the direction was done by a first-time director is a shock in itself, one of the most outstanding debut directing jobs seen in a long time by me. It's nostalgic in its embracing of contemporary and classic horror and also brave in the accomplished handling of the film's combative themes.

Being somebody who considers music important when talking about it, the music looms suitably ominously and fits well. 'Get Out' benefits from an extremely smart and clever script (though 'The Shape of Water' and especially 'Lady Bird' were worthier wins for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar in my view), that takes on a lot of elements and balances them adeptly and the individual elements handled very effectively.

Despite how it sounds, 'Get Out' struck me as more of a thriller with horror and comedic elements. It is highly successful on this front, with the thriller elements being taut, suspenseful and unsettling, the comedic ones being darkly funny and clever and the horror ones being imaginatively shocking and subtly uneasy. There is even some social commentary and interracial themes explored, and done thoughtfully and just about avoids preachiness while hitting hard still.

While all the performances are very fine, it is Daniel Kaluuya's superb lead performance that burns in the memory the most.

My only complaint of 'Get Out' is the too pat and somewhat silly ending that felt tacked on and like it came out of a different film, to me it too ended on a tonally jarring and that's it note.

Until then, the film was this close to being a masterpiece. So it was frustrating that it just missed out on that distinction. Nonetheless it's a great film that is among the year's better ones, brought down by an underwhelming ending. 9/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

Sure, the scares come and when they do they're great. In fact, it could be a brilliant thriller film if it wanted to. It's not one of those movies which have way too many scares, with no focus being put upon the storytelling. The pace of the movie is really fast, which is good as in some horror films you feel like they focus more upon the setup and just deliver jump scares at the end. The performances are really good. Daniel Kaluuya is brilliant in the film. Just watch that scene where he first goes into the Sunken Place, excellent acting. I think Allison Williams goes really under the radar as she also gives a good performance. The screenplay and score was outstanding building that feeling of dread and realization that he couldn't get out of the place but was just stuck here. The story is fabulous with so many inventive and creative things making twists all the time. The final act is great, right when you understand everything on one go in that TV conversation scene. There's no wonder that this film won Best Original Screenplay at the oscars… Expand

The writing and directing are superb and manage to deliver a movie with some interesting racial undertones. Peele actually uses these undertones to complement the horror in this movie and try to work around the obvious cliches and stereotypes that are present from the very beginning. The acting supplements this beautifully by leaving no ambiguity regarding those stereotypes and cliches and creates really interesting characters and relationships and interactions between those characters. It also creates some genuinely really funny moments which are perfectly placed juxtapositions to the freakiness and unease that dominates so much of this movie. That is actually one of the things I like most about this movie; it’s horror, but not in the conventional sense. This film doesn’t rely on jump scares whatsoever and more focuses on being smart and crafting a really unique and interesting story. This movie has some really freaky and uncomfortable moments and interactions that give viewers so much unease and anxiety regarding what will happen next. Get Out has great intellectual and social horror within it and the acting gives that so much depth and makes it even freakier. The characters in the movie do some really smart stuff which is a testament to the writing and directing and helps some scenes to be really engaging and clever. The film flows very smoothly and there are no disruptive or awkward moments that hurt the quality of the scenes. It makes a lot of sense and doesn’t rely on paranormal, supernatural or fantasy stuff to be unsettling or further along the plot, making this movie very different from other horror movies such as the Insidious and Conjuring franchises. Get Out is also an academic movie. If you’re studying film in college, grad school or just as a career, you’ll recognize concepts regarding spectatorship in some scenes of the movie. Thus, Get Out is capable of reaching audiences in a way a lot of other horror movies aren’t and don’t, making it truly unique as a work of art. It’s not often that I can say that a horror flick is academic and contains college level concepts in it, and I’m thankful that I can do it with this one. The movie doesn’t leave out the “ah-ha” moments of clarification, and makes them creative on their own by having certain things become clear and culminate. The end is nice and has a really funny moment in it that helps to perfectly wrap up the movie. Overall, Get Out is a fantastic movie and is a must-see for horror fans due to how unique and thought-provoking it is.… Expand

I could tell after the opening credits this movie was going to be amazing, when Redbone by Childish Gambino was playing. It's a masterpiece and very well done. Would've been a worthy best picture winner, but the lineup for the 2018 awards was incredible (Shape of Water, 3 Billboards, Darkest Hour).

Peele is a **** genius. The movie is full of subtle hints at every turn of the corner that rewards careful viewers while not being wasted on the general audience. Although it may fall pray to slowness at times, the use of classic staples ofPeele is a **** genius. Although it may fall pray to slowness at times, the use of classic staples of filmography like sound design, setting, and ambience really never pull you out of the world, even if the action doesn't start until over halfway into the movie. The suspense is extremely well done, and the ending is incredible. If you think the "racism" is too strong or whatever, I hate to be that guy, but Get Out. The movie drives home its themes and points perfectly, and its refreshing to see a horror movie with a message behind it in an age of cut and dry slashers. Absolutely insanely good movie from filmography, story, tone, message, acting, you name it, it's got it. Very overt product placement from Samsung though.… Expand

I saw this after "Us", which I found highly overrated, and "Get Out" is a lot better despite it's pretty heavy racist message.

The movie was thought to be an American horror, but instead, it was an American thriller and not only it was a thriller but also a kind of social racism to transition to violent, overt racism. It’s like a racism with violence. I don’t know why white hated black so much. We’re in the 21st century and Lincoln had done something for this situation (perhaps get out set up in the 19th century). This movie had a combination of mystery, horror, violence and racism which what I was talking about, an American thriller about racism. The cast was great. I really like the way Daniel Kaluuya acted as Chris Washington, an African-American guy. I saw him looked like a child when he was frozen, hypnotized with tears coming from his eyes. The reason for such good performances was the adapted screenplay. Everything they said made sense and we could understand a lot. The other casts also did great on being the whitties who hated the blacks. Also I should hear someone says **** Rose Armitage was also well-played by Alison Williams. She was a naïve and privileged American white girlfriend of Chris Washington who was hypnotized by her grandfather in the end. LilRel Howery was great as well playing Chris’ best friend Rob who was really funny (his voice, how he acted). How they set the beginning of this movie was totally perfect for a racism. A black man getting abducted by a white guy and was sent into the white guy’s car. I didn’t know what the hell was happening there. When it got to the scenes where many people are visiting the Armitage house, I still was confused what the movie was trying to tell us. I had no clue. It was just a black guy was taken by his girlfriend to her house and then they were eating outside and then the black guy slept then went to the white girl’s mother and she helped him to reduce smoking addiction. Then, when Chris got kidnapped by the Armitages, I suddenly realized this was a racist movie. I really didn’t understand about the hypnotizing part (how could Missy do that?). In spite of being a thriller, there were jump scares like sudden stab and attack (which nobody gives you a clue about someone is gonna attack you) and bloody violences like a guy cut another guy’s upper part of his head to get his brain, it was really disgusting. Blacks and Whites. The cinematography was just great. The views were well-shot. Get Out also spent some of its time capturing the uneasiness of sitting down on a chair having dinner with the whitties when Chris was berated by Dean and Missy for his smoking addiction and he also smoked in front of Rose, their daughter. As you know, Peele is a comedian, we saw that in the Tv Series Key and Peele, some scenes in the movie I found them funny as well. The premise reads like a Key and Peele sketch concept: A black man visits his white girlfriend’s rich family and awkwardness ensues. I have already said that Howery was one part of the humor. I was really entertained watching the movie (even though I wasn’t old enough to watch it). Even though it’s a thriller, horror movie fans might find it entertaining as well and like it a lot. The movie also gave me some Goosebumps and maybe others too perhaps.… Expand

This movie was really great. I was on the fence at first because I thought it would be a massive SJW nonsense shoved down my throat but It wasn't. Even if the movie is filled with obvious or hidden message, I still enjoyed it a lot.

The great parts about this movie really come into play when they get to the girlfriend’s home. From the start, you know there’s something not right about this family and creepy things are going on in the house while they are there. From the start, you know there’s something not right about this family and creepy things are going on in the house while they are there. The suspense generated as the movie goes on and really keeps you invested. This is done by learning more about the characters physcologically and not just their backgrounds. You go through this whole and you see how messed up the concept of this movie is and how screwed up the girl’s parents are. But, the movie doesn’t beat you over head with the horror or suspense, there is good humor in the movie that doesn’t derail the movie and gives a god break from the suspense. Too much of that can make it feel more like generic horror movie and that isn’t what stands out today. The good humor in place makes this movie stand out even more and keeps you invested in the film.

It’s hard to review this movie without spoilers so I’ll just talk about the cinematography for the last part. The suspense generated from the camera work is amazing, by that I mean some of the simple parts gives you even more ideas of something not right. One example is actually from the tailer when he goes to give the guy a fist bump but the guy jus grabs his hand like a handshake. The close-up of the hands gives this subtle idea that the people who work at this house are not normal and that there is something on at this house that can’t be good in any way.… Expand

A fantastic physcological horror. I highly enjoyed being able to put all the pieces of the story together, rather than have it be that the film tells you all the plot twist and ends. Kept me on the edge of my seat. 8/10.

yes it will be absolutely dangerous something is sure to happen but it is hard to guess what it is,what it is,what it is

Obviously I could not figure it out at the end of the idea that people would get into their brains surprised me, I thought more simple things like slaves and rose did not expect it to be in this job, it was a question that I thought was good and surprised me In general I really like the filmin topic, I won the academy prize in the best screenplay category I must say that you absolutely deserve it I could say a better film than this one because I do not call the film bad but it just might be better I like the film in general I just found the final scene a bit nasty was a bit simple

Great movie, it has not only social and racial commentary, but actually it is both a bit funny and also it has some horror elements in it and the suspense is quite great, plus you do feel for the character and feel like you are in the story with him.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie had me on the edge of my seat yelling GET OUTTT!!. The play on stereotypes made for a very interesting, hilarious, and bloody tale. However, as I sat there watching in shock I began to predict small minded people of all cultures taking this film seriously. The writers fictional play on sinister whites abducting and victimizing naive blacks (for money by the way) by taking their stereotypical "genetic assets" and using them for themselves was outright insane. Clearly these scenes hit the psyche and pulled the peculiar workings of slavery out of the viewers consciousness. It was entertaining, dark, and comedic, although I am sure someone left feeling offended while others left believing these things are actually possible. I was thoroughly entertained and satisfied to watch a good film created by blacks that did not resort to the usual hood story. I was thinking Alfred Hitchcock weird the whole time. It went bloody and over the top at the end but that's horror for you. I have not witnessed a creepier movie family since Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Rose had me terrified at the end, she played a cold blooded psychopath quite well.… Expand

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Get Out really is not all that it's cracked up to be, and certainly--in my opinion--is not worthy of most of the Oscar nominations it received.

As a "horror comedy," it tries to be funny and scaryPerhaps my expectations were too high, but Get Out really is not all that it's cracked up to be, and certainly--in my opinion--is not worthy of most of the Oscar nominations it received.

As a "horror comedy," it tries to be funny and scary and it never really seems to succeed at either. The horror relies mostly upon the assumption that the viewer doesn't know what's really going on at this white family's home, but the twist that suddenly gives the "big reveal" is predictable about half way into the film. The humor mostly consists of awkward situations that the main character finds himself in and they certainly don't produce any laughs, but rather just concerned cringe-induced chuckles.

That being said, Daniel Kaluuya gives an incredibly emotion-filled performance as Chris and the dialogue--when it's not attempting at humor--is quick and effective at delivering Jordan Peele's admittedly original but flawed story and emotion involved therein.

Get Out is a predictable but sufficiently engaging thriller that clearly only received the Oscar nominations it got because of its political agenda.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the movie, and I thought the concept was quite innovative within the horror genre. I did have problems with the movie however - some of the conversations between characters were later inferred to in every case be an act of jealousy, to kind of tie into a major plot twist. I honestly didn't myself receive that information from watching these conversations at all, and I think this could have been communicated more effectively in the scriptwriting. I also felt the protagonist should have been more concerned with the situation - so I had to suspend disbelief at his actions(in fairness this happens alot in horrors). Aside from that I didn't get any strong emotions of fear, danger or creepiness. This is all of course an individual experience that might differ to other people. Other than that I thought the movie was well executed across the board with the actors, setting and the idea behind it was brilliant. 7.2/10, not a massive appreciation for this movie, but i'm glad i watched it.… Expand

Most here providing negative or low scored reviews because they believe it’s racist against whites or feel it is or isn’t a comedy, are not versed on the history of America nor black culture beyond rap. The horror is aimed more at black people because this is a deeply rooted fear. Whites have taken or tried to take everything...now they come for the only thing black people have left. Their bodies. It draws upon influences from history in RL, such as Emmett Till and the horrific and controversial nature of his death, and also the belief that physically Black people are superior. Also the mistrust of white people that has been bred into blacks, and the reverse, speaks to racial disharmony, even within this very thread. Also speaks to further ignorance people have of each other and situations. One person here didn’t understand the movie, so so they believed the success had to do with the lead actor being black, another believed there is a reverse racism. Neither of those is true. The very definition of racism makes it impossible for such a thing for reverse racism to exist. The word you’re looking for is prejudice. But not so here either. This is simply a writer who was able to exploit a fear, of a community of people, who happen to not be white. The critical acclaim comes from the fact that these fears have never been on display so openly before.
That is why very few if any black people found this movie funny, but did find it horrific, even though fictional.
If you didn’t get the gist of the movie, I urge you to research Emmitt Till, George Stinney, Black WallStreet and History Channels Bio On Lynchings and then watch this again, imagining what it’s like to grow up with that knowledge in your head and what would make you afraid we’re you that person on screen. Not you, sitting at home in you white skin. Would you watch this movie and think, that could never happen, laughing, or think oh god...what if they did try this...what if they did try?!
If you are he’ll bent on believing white men and women are being subjugated and you don’t want to believe otherwise, then skip the research and go watch another movie. You don’t want to get it, and no one is forcing you to.… Expand

It's so refreshing to see a horror movie that's actually good and fantastically written.
One of the best directoral debuts I've seen too.

Interesting, yet creepy plot. Great performances and some unexpected twists. I found Get Out to be entertaining but was frustrated with the ending.

What an unique Horror film. This film was unexpected all the way and had me at the edge of my chair. This film definitely made history and I understand why.
