The cinematography is beautiful. If you appreciate films for their artistic value, this is a must-see. Lots of gorgeous shots. Only giving five stars, because the storyline was just meh. Very predictable.

Its def worth the premium pricing because the action throughout the movie is on a different level with 3D effects and higher frame rate. Usually movies are changed to 3d post production and they don't do 3D justice, however this movie was filmed with 3D in mind and it shows. As for the story, to be honest its pretty straightforward, there are no twists, you can tell from the very beginning how the story will unfold. Its an action flick. and thats all it is but because of the visual aspect, i would say its worth it in theaters rather than waiting for it on tv. If you already saw the joker and want to see another movie, i would go give it a try lol Expand

First, he's a 50ish government assassin who's ready to retire. He also plays the 20-year-old clone of himself, who is sent to kill the original version. This is supposed to be an action film, but there's too much conversation, which dulls the pace. Most of the fights aren't special with the exception of an incredible motorcycle chase that's impressively close up and wild. Director Ang Lee has directed with an assured hand, but the lackluster script gets in the way and slows him down. As for the de-aging effect, it's pretty impressive and the most memorable thing about the film. One woke change: The older version of the character teams up with a much younger woman, but they do NOT end up in bed! Expand

It has some great action sequences, but it falls very short in the visual effects department especially when Smith is on screen with himself. I like most of the concepts this story puts out and it fits the “fighting back against a government that they used to work for” troupe/genre, but they don’t really build or develop Smith’s “older” character for me to connect with him. Strangely the more nuanced relationship between the “younger” Smith and his father is actually one of the more interesting parts of the film. It’s too bad that there wasn’t more of that, but that’s what normally gets cut from an action movie to reduce run time. Expand

Will Smith really brings it here and him teaming with Ang Lee really make this film watchable. The main problem here is the plot here is lackluster. Thats likely attributed to David Benioff.

The idea of an aging assassin facing off against a younger version of himself is intriguing and has worked in the past (Looper) but this film's biggest issue is it's story and wasted potential. Still, its not a bad movie and certainly worth the watch if you're looking to be entertained by Ang Lee and Will Smith.

When you take away the technical marvel of 4kHDR 60fps, 2019's Ang Lee's Gemini shows that an interesting visual presentation really isn't enough to tell a good story well by itself. Forgettable and yet very cool to watch!

With the exception of the de-aging visual technique - which by the way is no longer innovative - Gemini Man is a terribly forgettable and predictable action film.

The script is flaccid, simplistic and inoperative. The dialogues are laughable that any small attempt to make the experience something more serious disappears completely because you simply cannot get into the story and the film does nothing to try to interest you.

It's obvious that Will Smith was really interested in the project but it seems that the rest of those involved were not.
Not even Ang Lee, who delivers his weakest film since his hedious adaptation of the Hulk in 2003.

This is a film to watch on a weekend if you don't have better options or are looking for an overly simplified action story to burn some time.
People will hardly mention it when they talk about Will Smith's or Ang Lee's career.
You will hardly talk about it after seeing it, and no one will be talking about it in a couple of months.

Then enter the back-to-back over the top CGI ‘super’ action sequences - combined with this, a rather tired plotline of the super-performing secret service hitman who suddenly wants out (although his reasons are honourable). This sends him to the top of his boss’s hunted list. Will Smith is above average for this sort of material and quite convincing as the ‘best-of-his-game’, now being set-up for elimination. The clever visual special effects of seeing his ‘younger self’- now making attempts on his life, is a lot better than some hard to please critics would have you believe but perhaps, stretched out too much to maintain credible interest. Then they add to all this, yet another ‘unstoppable’ robotic clone to drag the story interest further into that overused juvenile level. A good cast is left to do battle with an underperforming script. Nicely choreographed (but again over-exaggerated) fights & stunts also get lost in the mix. Still, followers of Smith may not be overly disappointed. Expand

Me senti ansioso e nervoso. Os movimentos de moto, junto com uma cinematografia quase que impecável, tornaram tudo muito real. Eu fiquei ansioso pelo resto do filme esperando uma cena ao mesmo nível, mas me decepcionei.

The acting is alright considering the genre. The actors are itching to give out more exposition and more one liners, but the time never arrives. The movie takes itself more serious than that.

The CGI is alright, the music fits the bill, the whole schlemazel is definitely midline.

Which is to say, I'm disappointed because I usually like these cheesfests. If I went in without any expectations and I watched trailer #2, perhaps I'd be more comforted by this version of Scifi Smith goodness.

As it stands, it was a good movie until the skull scene. Then it felt like another director took a stab at it, and it became like Hancock ~ connected but NOT. :)

Welcome back to Stream to Big Screen! This week we are reviewing movies and giving out horoscope advice. Gemini: the astrological sign known for its twins symbol and for producing individuals who often show the dual nature of life along with their ability to view life from different angles. Enough of that, this brings us to Gemini Man, the movie for the week.

Gemini Man, stars Will Smith as Henry a hitman ready to retire and actually experience life. Unfortunately for Henry, a younger version of himself (Junior/Jr.) is sent after himself to do what he does best, eliminate the target. Shots fired, pick up some crucial sidekicks along the way, pandemonium ensues and we follow the Wills down the rabbit hole while realizing why the movie is titled Gemini Man.

Needless to say after that synopsis, the storyline isn’t too much different from other movies like this. Think of Red or Red2…. except Bruce Willis has a clone chasing him instead of some random other hitman and not as campy. Yes, we’ve seen this movie before, if you look at it like that BUT we didn’t come to the theater for that. DID YOU NOT COME TO BE ENTERTAINED?! And entertained you shall be. Ang Lee shot this movie in 4K 3D at a high frame rate of 120fps (frames per second), which is supposed to make the movie more natural, smooth and immersive in the 3D and IMAX realms. I will say the movie did feel very smooth almost like a video game. UNFORTUNATELY, Jr. also looked exactly like a video game character for many action scenes in the movie. It was hard to not notice how poorly the CGI blended in for certain parts. But that didn’t spoil the whole movie for me, even though it was quite noticeable.

The action in this movie is very good. Lee definitely struck a great balance between storyline and John Wick fight fest. The movie has a ton of action to keep you entertained throughout without it feeling like one constant fight sequence. The Will on Will action was worth the admission alone but on top of that we got the classic Will moments. Picture your favorite moments in I am Legend, Suicide Squad, Men in Black, Pursuit of Happyness and I, Robot (and etc.) all wrapped into one movie. HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT? No, seriously, Will definitely pulled aspects of previous characters to make Henry feel believable and natural. Even his CGI younger self, while at times hard to look at, Will was able to convey the emotion of the scene. His acting actually was quite important to the moral and themes of the movie. Had his performance been lacking, then the movie would’ve floundered.

At the end of the day, this won’t go down as one of Will’s best movies, but action-wise, it may be one of his most entertaining. This movie gives you vintage Will Smith. He gives you his full acting range and shoots people along the way. This is a good movie to watch on a big screen. Smith and general action fans, definitely go see it. Everyone else, catch the matinee or a RedBox rental.

This type of plot is very common, so common that it always comes in two versions: pure or spiced. Pure, when the plot is simply what it is; someone leaves the Agency, and the Government betrays him. Spiced, when they add some element to spice up the plot. Gemini Man is spiced. The spice is that the Agency sends a clone of the hitman to kill the retiree.

Henry Brogan, after finishing one more job, decides to retire. His superiors at DIA wants to kill him to eliminate loose ends. Only there were no loose ends. That's Gemini Man's biggest problem: the motives don't make sense.

A friend of Henry's warns him that his last job was forged. The dude he killed wasn't who he was reported to be. But the plot does not unfold around this conflict. The plot uses this conflict to justify why DIA wants Henry dead. Explanations reappear as the plot approaches its climax, where we learn that conflict doesn't matter, making it all just an excuse for the film to move forward.

After DIA tries to kill Henry with conventional assassins, Clay Verrys, our villain, decides to send a special assassin: Henry's clone. Here, congratulations on the film: at least the clone idea was well thought out. The clone is not literally Henry with the same abilities; well, actually the clone is, only the clone, Junior, was born like any other human. Henry is 51 years old while Junior is 20 (-ish,) which makes him more agile than Henry.

From this point forward, the movie is just Junior hunting down Henry and his friends. The friends are Baron and Danny who inevitably got involved. The stunts are spectacular to look at, but surreal. No human being could do or bear everything that happens in the movie. I would prefer it to be something real, a cat-and-mouse game with elements of suspense, stealth and action when needed.

Augmented reality to make Junior look younger Will Smith is acceptable but noticeable. Junior looks like rubber or wax in some scenes. As for Will Smith in general, I don't know... He falls into the same category as Jim Carrey for me: I accept him in serious movies, but he has that comedic air. I couldn't help but chuckle in some lines.

The revelation to Junior that he's a clone of Henry isn't all that exciting. But maybe I was getting my hopes up too much. Of course, the revelation advances the film to the final events, which are bad. Clay makes such a ruckus that I doubt it wouldn't reach the ears of the President and the National and International Press. Lots of fireworks. If you want to erase loose ends, you want to do it silently, not warning the whole world that you are burning files.

The final twist is abrupt and, so close to the end of the film, unnecessary. The character Clay ends up becoming weak and with bad motives. The ending is not surprising as Gemini Man is PG-13.

Recommended if you want to spend some time with your family. If you like more elaborate plots, suspense, violence, you can skip it.
