Replacing John Shepherd as Tommy kind of knocked it down a bit for me but the new guy, Thom Matthews, is an enjoyable lead and helps make up for the film's shortcomings. Better Than 5
Though it’s not perfect and still has weak writing, Jason Lives is an improvement over A New Beginning and has some fun kills.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one final movie in the franchise, which was tolerable. It's dumb, no doubt, but at least doesn't take itself seriously. All these films are just a man in the hockey mask murdering people. There's nothing more to the character of Jason, with an exception of his little backstory. And since the backstory is never to be explored, I am not so interested in the character. So give us some incredibly goofy and dumb entertainment. And for the first and the last time, we get it. .

Good : Jason's kills are often hilarious. He punches someone through the chest and takes the heart out, literally. And in one scene, he even gets amused with his own strength. That's nothing great but is hilarious. And I loved it. The police officers are quite full of testosterone. They are just B or C versions of Dirty Harry. They act like they're gonna f**k your s**t up, but get killed in the end. And one particular kill, that of the sheriff, is something I genuinely liked. Hilariously, they throw some fourth wall breaking humour and the Dirty Harry reference too. For the only time, we get children at the camp. Yeah, they got it right to some degree. But, that's all. Even all of these are enjoyable in a goofy way. Other parts are just downright terrible. .

Bad : Tommy got rid of his fear for Jason, but he has the fear in this movie too, because the plot needed him to. That's the only reason why. The way they resurrected Jason is just cheesy and corny. The romance is just plain awful. And, it is a bit undertoned, but still has some cringe-worthy "sexy" scenes. The final motivation of Tommy to simply drown Jason in the lake for no goddamn reason is just stupid as s**t. He stabbed the dead corpse and looked totally f**ked up in the beginning. Contrary to that, he just wants to drown him for nothing? Oh wait wait wait. He said that the way to kill him was to drown him. Ahh, that's way! Wait another f**king minute! How did he know that? He just threw that s**t just so that we get to know what the f**k is happening. Jason's powers are just the convenience for the screenwriters. He can rip an arm off a guy, but cannot break the stupid chain he has been tied to in the end. Alright, he can at least break the stupid rock holding him down! F**k! I should not look for logic in this movie! I made a mistake. I watched this a couple of days back. I felt completely lifeless watching the Friday films in a row, so I had to take a break. That made me forget a lot of things in this film, again. That's all I can remember now. .

Conclusion : On the whole the movie was simply a dumb entertainment. If you can take the goofiness of the movie, you will be entertained. I got entertained quite a bit when I embraced the tone of the movie. I shouldn't have let myself look for logic. It made me realize that the movie was totally dumb. May be I would've got a bit more entertained if I didn't do that, who knows? I don't know or care. I watched all of these movies just to feel "complete" as a horror fan. There have been no film in this particular series, I feel like rewatching ever again. So, these are my final thoughts for this movie. I don't think my opinions for these movies would ever change. .

It is bad but hard to rate how bad it is...
The soundtrack is amazing even if too intense for scenes that contains no suspense at all.
Jason is still immortal which makes him unstoppable and the movie really predictable. This make itIt is bad but hard to rate how bad it is...

Jason is still immortal which makes him unstoppable and the movie really predictable. This make it impossibler to worry about anything concerning both the plot and the protagonists. Deaths looks more butal than ever but are impressively varied.
Relations between characters are terribly poor : the sheriff's position doesn't evolve at all, people looks very close but their deaths don't seem to count at all for each other, characters have time and mental disponibility to think about their sexuality but not about their own life in danger.
What about involving kids in such a movie ? They are useless from beginning to the end. Plus they are confronted to the death of a man and quite violent fights (it is an euphemism).… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives feels like a step up from the previous movie. Other than Corey Feldman as a kid, Thom Mathews is my favorite Tommy. I felt like his version was more enjoyable to watch. Having said that though, Tommy is at fault for bringing Jason back to life. One needs to learn to leave things alone.

PLOT

Tommy Jarvis digs up Jason’s body to make sure he’s still dead, inadvertently bringing him back to life. Now Tommy must stop Jason from killing a new group of teens, children, and even paintballers from getting killed. He must convince an unbelieving Sheriff that Jason is back and killing people.

MY THOUGHTS

I liked this movie more than Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. Yes, Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives has no nudity and only one sex scene. But there are at least 18 kills. This is the first of the Friday movies that someone actually shoots Jason. How does it take nearly 6 movies before someone shoots him? At least he didn’t kill the children. Though, I think that did increase the scare factor on whether or not he would kill them.

This is the third movie in the “Tommy Jarvis Trilogy”. And I have to say, I like Thom Mathews as the adult Tommy more than John Shepherd’s version of Tommy. He just seems more realistic or more enjoyable as Tommy. I’m not sure how old Megan (Jennifer Cooke) is supposed to be but she was a bit annoying for me. Unless she’s a teenager, who just helps a criminal they just met? Just because he’s cute. I don’t know. It doesn’t make sense.

The music is pretty good. Alice Cooper has three songs playing in the movie: Teenage Frankenstein, Hard Rock Summer, and He’s Back (the Man Behind the Mask). So, any movie with an Alice Cooper song has to be good, right?

At 86 minutes this is the shortest Friday the 13th movie.
Thom Mathews, who plays Tommy here, is equally well known to genre fans as Freddy from Return of the Living Dead.

"Some folks have a strange idea of entertainment" - gravedigger with a high school diploma who deserves his job.
