Evening is a star-studded soap opera that moves at a snails pace that would have been much better without the flashbacks to a weekend wedding that plays like a Douglas Sirk take on The Great Gatsby. But I'd put down another ten bucks just to see the 10 minute scene between Vannessa Redgrave and Meryl Streep over again! It was like Pacino & DeNiro in Heat, one of those landmark meetings of acting Gods that make you forget that you've been sitting through 2 hours of schlock just for this moment, and boy is it worth it!… Expand

I like the concept of this movie -- end-of-life reflections, regrets and questions. And the cast is stellar. But so many aspects of it are just wrong somehow. Claire Danes not looking at all like someone who would age into Vanessa Redgrave,I like the concept of this movie -- end-of-life reflections, regrets and questions. And the cast is stellar. But so many aspects of it are just wrong somehow. Claire Danes not looking at all like someone who would age into Vanessa Redgrave, CD as a singer, Toni Collette (who's pushing 50) mismatched with her younger lover, the cliche of the troubled young drunk who's secretly gay, the vacuous wealthy. Most of all -- nothing against Patrick Wilson, but his bland, colorless, impassive countenance is grossly incompatible with the idea that everyone who encounters him is immediately fascinated and in love. Atmospherics of the movie are nice, though. Fans of Hallmark movies might enjoy it a bit.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The good part of this movie is the strong cast. Otherwise it tries hard to be artistic, but the plot moves way too slowly. Also I do not like that they made some kind of love idol from this man who kind of destroyed the lives of many (even if it wasn't his intention) . Ann spent her remaining time on her death bed regretting that she had never married him, whereas the death of poor Buddy was just swept over like he didn't even matter to her.… Expand
