It appears that the majority of people and orginizations rated this movie with extreme bias. They gave no mention of the acting, sound track, and scenery in this movie (Even with a poor storyline it should rate at least a 6 by itself!!!!). The movie was incredibly gripping, character development was astonishing, and itis based on a true story. If anyone rated this movie less than a 7, it is because they are bias because of the Christain nature of the film. Both sides, anti-Christian and Christian, have this bias problem. Read the posts, its either too politically correct or too religious. Anyhow, from a true critic, The most gripping and moving movie I have seen!!! Its too bad it likely won't win any awards. Expand

Good (not great) acting with very good cinematography. I was not expecting much from this movie but it powerfully and compellingly presents the themes that it wants to present. Much better in this pespect than most critically aclaimed movies today.

Watching it and knowing it was a true story showed the ultimate in forgiveness. I greatly appreciated being able to see what one of these five families experienced. It was awesome to see how good can come out of such evil. Expand

I was very suprised how much this movie affected me. I knew going in that this was a low budget film based on a true story and that it may be disappointing when compared with typical Hollywood big budget fare. I knew going in that this was a low budget film based on a true story and that it may be disappointing when compared with typical Hollywood big budget fare. However, I did not feel cheated or disappointed in any way. The scenes depicting the voilent nature of the tribesmen are gripping and horrifying. And the expected fate of the missionaries is heart-wrenching. I did not find this to be a "Sunday School lesson", in fact I felt that the "proselytizing" was kept to a minimum. And I found that I kept putting off leaving the theater for fear I would miss something. Expand

Why are so few critics reviewing this movie? Because it's "Christian"? Yet they'll go and see Deuce Bigalo: American Gigolo. amazing.

Simply dreadful. A dull and often times ridiculous testiment to how converting people to christianity makes them more civilized somehow. The brutality of the tribe was actually more of a relief to me. Those missionaries are portrayed as the Simply dreadful. A dull and often times ridiculous testiment to how converting people to christianity makes them more civilized somehow. The brutality of the tribe was actually more of a relief to me. Those missionaries are portrayed as the good guys but I was somehow relieved to see the ends of several spears go into some of them. I felt no sympathy for any of the main characters, I had no sense of enthrallment or enjoyment during this bloody and pointless justification of all things that christians do to save your soul. Useless. Expand

if you want to see a good engaging film about missionaries you should skip this one and see 'The Mission.' This one's just a sales tool for christian colonialism and an attempt at justification of oppression of non-christian cultures.

It's about missionaries, but it's not a "religous" movie either. It's about a group of ordinary people responding to an unthinkable event with incredible courage. It is gripping, touching, violent in places (but without gore), humorous, and thoroughly satisfying. It truly is a movie that breaks the mold. I'd like to see more movies like this! Expand

This film is wonderful. It is the first film since "Passion of the Christ" that has touched me so emotionally. Those who speak against it are afraid of its simple message.

I loved this film, it truly depicts what it is like to totally immerse yourself in a foregin culture. It also acurately shows the zeal with witch these and many other missionaries have for their work (we need more people like the Saint I loved this film, it truly depicts what it is like to totally immerse yourself in a foregin culture. Maybe Mr Fox of Tv Guide should visit the theaters again ( you have to be sleeping to miss the powerful message that this film has to offer). Expand

I thought it was well done for what it is, I went in with no expectations and felt like it told a great story. While the lines may have seemed forced at times, the acting was believable and the scenery was beautiful.

Simply Horrible. The entire movie completly ignores the side of a indigenous peaceful civilization, completely ignores the introduction of polio to indigenous societies through missionaries...etc. Another attempt which proves Simply Horrible. The entire movie completly ignores the side of a indigenous peaceful civilization, completely ignores the introduction of polio to indigenous societies through missionaries...etc. Another attempt which proves Christianity's intolerance towards people with a different point of view about being "civilized". Watch only if you want to regress as an open minded person, and love colonialism. Expand

I would be lying if I said I wasn't moved. Yes the music was overwrought and the dialogue didn't always sparkle but the dramatic conflict never failed to engage. The movie works, in a Dylaneque fashion, not in linear progression but in its accummulation of passion and emotion until it reaches its redemptive ending. Though it's a bit violent for younger audiences, this film is sure to spark passionate conversations from all that see it. Expand

Very disappointing compared to the documentary film and the books about these men. A very watered down gospel message. I would encourage getting the better version in Beyond Gates of Splender which has the real message these men died for.

There was no point to the End of the Spear. I remember when those missionaries were killed, and this movie did a dreadfrul disservice to them. It could have been so much more with better editing, intimate and sweeping cinematography, an expanded and more detailed story exposition and well rounded and layered character development. More of an intricate and emotional score, wouldn't have to be a long score and definitely not a bombastic one mind you (a more subtle one could be more powerful on emotions), would have helped as well. Having said that, I still appreciated this movie's themes and some parts of the movie itself, namely the climax and Louie Leonardo's acting and especially his acting potential. Although the climax is not perfect (actually rushed in execution), it is still a quite a powerful one. Expand
