Sometimes you feel that a lot more could have been done with this idea.

"Enchanted" enchants, finally. Before the swoon, however, this near-miss movie is hampered by lazy writing. "Enchanted" doesn't properly address the shock an animated character would experience upon entrance into the real world. For example, when Giselle falls from some scaffolding, the film fails to acknowledge that a cartoon figure would never experience physical pain in their animated realm. In Wim Wenders' "Faraway So Close"(the sequel to "Wings of Desire"), an angel sees his blood for the first time. "Enchanted" would be far better if Giselle was just a tad more existential, and inquistive about the differences between both worlds. The real world doesn't acknowledge the existence of animated films. When Prince Edward(James Marsden) uses the television remote, he never encounters the world of his previous incarnation as an animated figure. "Enchanted" doesn't want to get too complicated, which is an insult of sorts, because this film is obviously for young girls. There's also an insidious anti-feminist ideology at work, too. Rather than be a smart woman like Mata Hari, or a strong woman like Rosa Parks(from a book Robert gives Rachel(Morgan Phillip) on her birthday), the young girl is confronted with a princess as her primary role model. Well, I'll shut the hell up now. "Enchanted" is redeemed by an ultra-romantic ending. Expand

I feel more disconnected than Enchanted, despite some delightful sequences.

The begnning is cute and Amy Adams stays in character pulling it off, the rest of the enchanted cast not so and the ending bombed, Susan Saradon was mediocre. A shame they did not develop a characters or a strong story line. Very funny movie that was enjoyed by all of my family. Just be prepared for it to all fall apart towards the end. Could have been a classic.

It definitely feels like a lot of work was put into it and it benefits from just that. Its got romance, humor, and great characters, even if the action is somewhat unbeneficial

Enchanted is good enough to watch mainly because of Amy Adams, which brings life to the entire movie. Very predictable with lots of corny scenes but bearable.

Enchanted

The compilation of different borrowed ideas from in house Disney production installed as Easter eggs does bring a smile here and there but the original concept wears off easily for it relies completely onto it throughout the course of the feature. Kevin Lima is at its best on depicting this amusing world and its fine details with the help of its powerful script by Bill Kelly. On performance objective, Amy Adams has got it covered all with a great supporting cast like Susan Sarandon and Timothy Spall. Enchanted works like a charm as a love letter to all the early Disney features but it fails to capture its essence on terms of its sketchy aspects and originality.

Amy Adams is the actress who gives life to the princess Giselle, young and innocent, happy and hopelessly romantic. James Marsden made a good performance as Prince Edward, but who really makes some chemistry with Adams is her romantic pair, the skeptical and pragmatic Robert, played by Patrick Dempsey. Susan Sarandon is the villain, Narissa. In the supporting cast, Idina Menzel has been relatively well, Timothy Spall shone with his accent and theatrical manners, and a small squirrel, Pip, deserves congratulations.

The script is very original, blending our world with the fantasy world we are used to circumscribe to animated films and fairy tales. The pace is fast, things are happening rather quickly. The characters are forced to get accustomed to our world, much less charming and innocent than theirs, and we were delighted to see the countless hilarious moments that result from this adaptation. The animated scenes were very well done and easily brought to our memory the traditional animated films that we saw in childhood. But even some scenes in the rest of the film have made discrete reproductions of some famous scenes of these films, resulting in a very moving homage to this genre. The ending of the film is beautiful but very predictable, there is no surprise in the way it ends, and that is a little disappointing. The film also has several interesting songs, filmed in an original way an normally singed by Giselle.

This is a movie designed for families, which will easily please everyone. It's not a fully animated movie, it has minor flaws but it's nice.
