Things that are curious are not explained, there are too many question marks, that is, while so many continuation things can be done in the Breaking Bad universe, they did not pay much attention to what we wanted.

needless to say, if you enjoy Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul you must watch this movie its short, and its actually good,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It certainly is great to see what comes of Jessie following the ending of the series, but that's about all this film is good for. There's no real interesting threat against Jessie and due to the six year gap between the end of the series and the release of this film, some of the cast looks drastically different. However, I love Jessie and I'm glad we got two hours more of him. Expand

For the first 15 minutes I was hooked but as the movie went on I found the pacing too slow and the events kind of meaningless. It didn't make sense for Jesse to steal from his parents instead of at least saying a final goodbye. Also, Todd was very insufferable in the last season and had no personality whatsoever and his presence only worsened the film. I would've liked to see some of the more likeable characters that were still alive, not only Jesse's friends. What I liked is the acting and the ending, with appearance of Christen Ritter. This would've been better as a lost episode, not a film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. a very quiet crime movie with an unreluctant protagonist. did not catch the breaking bad series but was a fan of bryan cranston. though he only cameo in this show, was surprised to see the understated 'jesse plemons'. he gave the show an aura of impending tensed consequence which i always appreciate. loved the way he lipsynced in the car. who else could have done it better.
the movie had a clint eastwood righteous feel to it and a certain sense of comedic downplay to muffle the overused money in the fridge plot.
watch for jesse plemons and the darkly handsome brooding main actor.

El Camino or Jesse the film. Great Breaking Bad experience in film format, which is "only" good not outstanding.

Aaron Paul aka Jesse Pinkman is rightly the protagonist of the film because he delivers a great performance. Acting at a very high level, on the other hand, the narrative structure of the film is unfortunately too simple, sometimes lengthy. Many flashbacks accompany the film, which is a bit annoying in the end.

All in all, it's a worth seeing return to the breaking bad story.

El Camino was neither better nor equal to Breaking Bad as you can't surpass perfection. Breaking Bad is undoubtedly the best or at least one of the best TV series of all time.

This doesn't mean that movie was bad. It shows Jesse's final fate. Everything was same as the show; great cinematography, great acting and great direction. It however has slow pacing and movie could have been shorter. Overall, it has impact on you just like the series and should watch it after you finish the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This contains spoilers. El Camino tries to add contexts to what happened to Jesse after and near the end of breaking bad as well as flashbacks. It seemed like a good idea because we didn’t get much from Jesse perspective the last 5 episodes of breaking bad (and this is coming from someone Me who wasn’t a big fan of Jesse the character). Now the movie itself I felt didn’t add much to the breaking bad universe/ overall story. Jesse friends are on in only 10 mins of the movie ( they literally disappear after) there’s no mention / appearance of skyler, Walt jr, the boy who got poisoned( can’t remember his name), Saul, etc. We didn’t get to see the impact of hanks death on the police department and the family, etc.We get kinda this forced in plot where Jesse is on a quest to find Money. It didn’t make much sense because if I recall back in season 5 I believe it was episode 6 or 7, (b4 he got captured) Jesse was giving/ throwing drug money away to random people, completely demotivated and on this all of a sudden in this he’s super motivated to get the drug money again. He’s even more emotionally broken/ demotivated after he got captured. That’s kinda a continuity issue. As for the pacing it’s not bad, acting is top notch , I appreciated the flashbacks, and seeing old faces. Great dialogue. But at times I felt like woow is that all? this is supposed to be connected to The breaking bad one of the best shows ever. I finished the movie feeling empty, like it needed more. But I guess they couldn’t really do much more because by the end of the series basically all of the big drug dealing characters are dead, so not much could’ve been added if u look at it from that perspective. Which is a problem u get when running into aftermath spin offs, you can’t add much if the story from the tv show or prequel is basically already told. Expand

Aaron Paul yet again brings his A-game to the character of Jessie in a new chapter of his life, where he begins to be a lot smarter with his actions and a much calmer and remorseful person. Vince Gilligan also does a great job as a first time director of a feature with interesting cinematography and a good pace and rhythm. None of the actors had really aged since the finale episode of Breaking Bad to the point that it became distracting except maybe for Jesse Plemons whose gained a bit of weight since then so that was a bit confronting (especially after seeing the Breaking Bad Recap Netflix plays before the film).

So yeah, El Camino is certainly a must watch for Breaking Bad fans and could defiantly still be enjoyed by people who haven’t even seen the show although they wouldn’t get the same amount of fulfilment by any means. Check it out gang, it’s on Netflix right now it’s not that hard.

It feels just like an extended episode, and when I say this, believe me, it's a very good thing. Besides what some people say, I don't believe the movie gives any kind of closure, it simply shows what happens to Jesse (Aaron Paul) right after the events of the finale. It also has a lot of flashbacks that are recieved with a certain feeling of nostalgia.
The writting dosen't try to fly too high or be too creative and unfortunately when the topic is Breaking Bad the hype is real and I expected a more clever plot. It does create suspense in many ocasions and although it didn't match my expectations I consider the writting good enough. Maybe not as good as the best episodes of BB, like the train heist, but definetely as good as an averege episode. Just keep in mind that an average episode of Breaking Bad is better than the best espisodes of many, many other shows.
Location scouting and scenarios really shine here. It's a very beatiful movie. The camera work is great and creative witch helps in creating imersion and suspense. The color grading is also very well done.
It's very slow at times, but hey, it's Vince Gilligan, it's Breaking Bad, what else could you expect?
If you are a fan of the show, it's a must watch. If you've never seen the show, the movie is great on it's own but I really recomend watching the show first. After all, it is a folow up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. El Camino is entertaining, features great cinematography (that improves upon Breaking Bad) and a great acting performance from Aaron Paul (arguably better than in the series). It deals with some necessary realities an truths of the aftermath of Breaking Bad, especially in the first scene where Jesse discusses "put[ing] things right" and Mike reminds Jesse, "that's the one thing you can never do." But by the end of El Camino, Jesse is essentially in the same place he was at the end of Breaking Bad - in terms of his arc and development, but just with fewer loose ends. It's a likable movie and not useless, as it certainly adds helpful details and answers some questions, but only if we consider it an addition to Jesse's story, rather than the final conclusion of Breaking Bad. Ultimately, you can make your own call - is Jesse's story better left with the question marks and uncertainty? I think nothing was going to beat his final scene in Breaking Bad and that was possibly the perfect conclusion for him, but I did not regret watching this. Expand

But aside from that the movie is a excellent singular character focused story. The film properly offers closure to Jessie's story, and manages to keep bringing parallels to do he was before and who he is now. That he rejects the idea of throwing away his code of morality, evolving as a person while staying true to his heart. Expand

Expand

The movieEl Camino is a great epilogue to the Breaking Bad series. The movie doesn't stand well on it's own and requires the audience to watch the previous 5 seasons of breaking bad to fully grasp the nature of what's occurring in the movie. The movie is more a homage to the fans of breaking bad who want more. Aaron Pauls performance was excellent and the cinematography was above average but the story of Jesse after the events of Felina felt conflicted with the cluster of flashbacks which served little to no purpose at all and dint add much to the story. On the whole, if you're a fan of Breaking Bad you will most likely appreciate this Netflix Original. I gave this movie a 7 as it serves a solid epilogue and does a good job of rounding off the story of Jesse Pinkman. Expand

The movie picks up where Breaking Bad finished, following Jesse Pinkman after his great escape. The film is very much in the same tone as the series, dangerous but sprinkled with light and dark humour, and many great tension building scenes. There are also other returning characters from the show, most memorably Todd, aka Meth Damon. The movie is shot well, nice and crisp cinematography, lit with very neo-noir lighting. Flashbacks are used very well within the narrative, explaining Jesse's movements and motives, and foreshadowing future events. And just like the series, music is handled well, in particular, a scene involving Meth Damon and a truck. The movie satisfactorily concludes Jesse Pinkman's arc. I was delighted returning to the BB universe, and I'm happy with the way they chose to end it. Expand

So I was both excited and EXTREMELY skeptical when this film was announced. Thankfully, most of my concerns were for nothing, as this is an extremely well put together production. While I absolutely adore the beauty and ambiguity of Jesse driving off, joyful tears in his eyes, at the end of the show, there is still more to Jesse’s journey that we didn’t get to see. Aaron Paul is as good here as he was in the best episodes of the show; he hasn’t skipped a beat, and he’s totally Oscar-worthy. It nails the look and feel of the show, and the cameos from characters are wholly satisfying and awesome. It may be a little overlong for how much plot there is; I could easily see this being condensed down into the length of an episode, but I was never bored. I do wonder if this would’ve been better if it was instead a little miniseries of maybe four or so hour-long episodes (something that Netflix has done before with Gilmore Girls; hopefully this would’ve turned out a little better than that did) instead of a single two hour chunk, but I’m still happy with what we got. A follow-up tale that keeps you strung on every beat as Jesse seeks freedom from the excess of his hell. But I wouldn't say it's the movie you expect, as it lingers far too long on flashbacks made simply to emphasize Jesse's pursuit in a film that's main story carries very little momentum for a feature length film. And the end the result just wasn't as emotionally endearing, mainly because there was not enough conflict or momentum focus between him and the police. The movie was a flachback throwback escapee film, but had Vince given us an adverserial police character, connected to the Walter White investigation months prior to Jesse's escape, it would've brought more resonance and a sense of intrigue rather than the forgettable hippies they gave us. And it would've forced the film to spend much more time in the moment than in the past. But in the end, El Camino is a breath of fresh air, a throwback and a solid Jesse Pinkman send-off tale, but it's certainly not the vivid thriller i was expecting. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. El Camino

El Camino takes place seconds after the series Finale. Jessie escapes Captivity and is on the run, He seeks shelter with some old friends. He comes to the conclusion that he needs to escape and forever by using the Vacuum cleaner repair man from the original series, in an episode where Saul tells Jessie about a guy that can make him disappear forever.

Movie was not needed, Many people wanted to see Walter survive and continue the business but this did not happen, We do however get treated to a nice flashback scene of Walter and Jessie at a Denny's sometime around season 3 or 4 maybe. Walt and Jessie have one last argument and one last hurraw before the final curtain.

Final Grade C-

Movie was not Needed and probably not wanted from certain people, Plot was good but pointless, did not add anything new other than Jessie escaping and hatching a plan to disappear forever. Fans of the series will like and hate this film at the same time. If this was the real plot of the film Gilligan wanted to film than shame on him as it's not that great.

I was transfixed from beginning to end. I loved the characters and development. I was a huge Breaking Bad fan so that it was perhaps easier for me to follow all the achronus scenes.

I wouldn't call it a complaint, but not much happens over its duration. You see a lot of scenes, especially for the first half of the film, which seem episodic. It comes off feeling like an indie film rather than a drama or action movie. I liked it that way; it doesn't feel like most movies now, and that's mostly why I haven't watched a movie in five months. In any case, by the end of the film I think all the little stories have come together to explain Jesse's motivation and what to feel about him.

I thought it was a very good, motivating movie. It's a fun drama to watch and captivating. Maybe it's more for a Breaking Bad fan and someone who's not expecting some kind of modern movie that's going to mean something to the viewer outside the context of Breaking Bad.

A snappy recap supplied by Netflix as well as Aaron Paul’s rendition on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was a refreshing reminder to fans of the show who don’t partake in an annual viewing. It’s no spoiler that Robert Forster makes an appearance which demands more of your attention to savour his character after the news of the actor’s untimely passing. Gilligan and Paul’s intention was simple; create a canon future and put to bed any speculation that fans cooked up for themselves, bringing resolve and justice to a dear a legendary television character who will always be forever in our memes. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, what a way to spoil one of the best TV shows out there. Now it was clear from the start that there is zero point in making this movie apart from its creators making more money, but I didn't expect it to be this bad.

Basically, the entire film is dedicated to pathetic humiliation of Pinkman, both in past and present. For example, in the past, it is shown that he is so worthless that he couldn't make his escape when literally handed a gun. In the present, he's so lowly he steals from his poor parents. I never liked Pinkman's character in the original show, but the El Camino version reached new heights in making him unlikable. Moreover, he is different from his BB show version. I mean, once given the chance, he straggles Todd in the final episode with no remorse, but in this insult of a movie, he breaks down in tears and says he likes Pepperoni pizza when given an opportunity to shoot him with no witnesses around. Really painful to watch.

There's a bunch of fan service with various cameos, but a lot of references didn't even work for me, as the show ended what, 6 years ago, and I don't remember all the plot details.

Season 5 of Breaking Bad was a largely unnecessary epilogue, as season 4 wrapped things up nicely, but it ended up having some of the best episodes of the entire show. This, however, is a shameless spit in the face of the audience. If you hold any good memories of Breaking Bad, do yourself a favor and skip this.

The only thing that broke my immersion is the fact the characters look older and thicker - Don't get me wrong, it's much preferred over the b/s de-aging that's happening lately. El Camino smartly jumps back and forth in time in order to get in all the required appearances from all the characters, and gives Jesse Pinkman a little glimpse of hope at recovery. Expand

The performances, the monologues, those gorgeous shots of Albuquerque and so much more worked in a way that escalated the series into being one of the greatest shows ever made. So even with the ideal closure that series finale provided, we were all still left wanting more. We got some of that with Better Call Saul, but now El Camino sets out to continue Jesse’s story after Breaking Bad and give us some more closure for one of our favourite meth dealers.

It starts off exactly where Breaking Bad left us, with Jesse speeding down an empty road finally free after months of being enslaved and forced to make meth by a group of white supremacists (that’s a heck of a strange sentence that only makes sense with a show as insane as Breaking Bad). But with the police on his trail, Jesse needs to find a way to get enough money together to get out of town and start a new life. Plus throughout the film Jesse is suffering with PTSD, being haunted by the ghosts of his past and his own mistakes.

The greatest compliment that I can give the film is that it fits in nicely with the rest of the series and upholds Breaking Bad's legacy. Vince Gilligan brings the same creative energy to this film that he brought to the original series and we get a lot of great moments ranging from nail biting suspense to the kind of dark humour that Breaking Bad always excelled at. Plus Aaron Paul is on top form as Jesse providing a few moments that are up there with some of his best moments from the show. It’s also really interesting seeing him play a younger Jesse during several flashbacks and how easily he can still slip in to the carefree version of him that we knew when the show was only just starting. Then only moments later the film will cut to the current Jesse, with the stark contrast in Paul’s performance being a strong reminder of how much the past few years ended up weighing on him. Outside of Aaron Paul we also get several cameos from some of the shows best characters (none of whom I’ll reveal, but the IMDB castlisting could give some surprises away). When we first see some of them it is a bit disjointing given that some of them are 6 years older since we’ve last seen them, but honestly I got sucked into the scenes so quickly that I quickly forgot about how different they looked. Two of the returning characters are playing substantial roles in the film and end up stealing the scenes that they’re in. The other cameos are a lot more limited and some of them were probably just fit in when the actors just had a spare day in their schedule to film their scenes. But they all work well within the context of the film and they all provide some interesting reflections on the morality of the past few years of Jesse’s life. Though the one defining feature that is lacking which the original show excelled at is the character development which was always at its core. Whilst it does provide us with a little more closure for what happened to Jesse, he’s still the same person that he was at the end of the show and the film doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know about him after watching him develop for the past 5 seasons. Also whilst the show does provide a more conclusive ending for Jesse, it doesn’t really offer us anything that beats those incredible seconds of relief and pure agony that the show originally left us on.

Ultimately the film is a victory lap for one of the greatest shows of all time. So if you’re somebody who’s never seen Breaking Bad, you’re probably not going to follow much of what’s going on here and I seriously recommend either buying the boxset or watching the series on Netflix since you’re missing out on some great television ever produced. But if you’re a Breaking Bad junkie who’s been jonesing for some more awesome moments, this film definitely delivers. And who knows, with so many great characters I’d be open to seeing some more spinoff films in the future. Maybe one day we might even learn whether Huell ever made it out of that room.

Otherwise, when the writers shout "Fetch!" one last time while offering this lukewarm, re-heated stew of old, now slightly suspicious looking ingredients, much fewer people would actually bother to move. There is nothing inherently terrible on the formula - wrap up Jesse Pinkman in three layers of plot armor, and let him do silly things one last time. He is the kid with the heart, and we all feel for him. However, there is no substance in the plot - everything has been already said, there is really nothing to add, and even though the characters seem like doing their "thing" one last time, it's lifeless action like a dead frog being animated by a sudden jolt of electricity. Unfortunately, the impulse quickly wears off, so we are stuck with an unnecessary, melancholic meandering over what we already knew. If this film did not exist, the original series (Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) would not miss anything worth seeing, on the contrary - it dilutes the whole experience, bringing a foul aftertaste that was originally not present. Strictly a fan service, and maybe a nostalgia trip for the actors that wanted to perhaps revisit a bright point in their career. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a film that in many ways I did not see the need for it to be made and yet I thought they did more with the film than I thought they could and it is in fact a welcome addition to the Breaking Bad franchise. It is like a trip down memory lane with cameo appearances from Jonathan Banks, Bryan Cranston and a bigger role for the late great Robert Forster. There are several parts within the film that drag somewhat and I found my interest waning but there were many other parts such as the standoff and every scene with Robert Forster or the aforementioned cast that enticed you back in. Of course Aaron Paul was excellent as was the rest of the cast but those expecting something removed from what Breaking Bad the TV show was will be disappointed, this is merely an extended epsiode of the series that reveals what Jesse Pinkman does after the events of the series finale, what more could you expect? Yet I think you'll find they deliver several very nice ideas to a film premise that did not need to be done, Gilligan has taken care with this film, clearly tried his hardest and this effort should most certainly be commended. Breaking Bad was nearly flawless for its first three seasons. While it never recovered from a serious misstep in season four, it still soared on occasion. While Paul shows every day of the six years that have passed, he lifts the proceedings enough to please the hard-core "Captain Cook" fans. Those not blind to the series' shortcomings, or unfamiliar with what all the fuss was about, will not be moved to go back and binge. I would say that this movie didn't really have to exist, we got a pretty good ending with Jesse in BB and it was mostly up to interpretation as to what would happen next. With this movie it doesn't take anything away from BB so that's good, but what I suggest is do not watch it straight after BB since the actors returning look much older in what was only supposed to be a few seconds after the show ended. Some haven't aged a bit, others it's pretty obvious. As a standalone, this movie has no bearing so don't listen to the creators saying it is. As a part of the show, I'd say it holds up if you can suspend your disbelief a bit to accept the actors are older and the main character of BB is gone and this is solely about Jesse. I feel what lacks is you don't get much of a rundown of who Jesse was in BB before all the crazy, heartbreaking stuff happened. So just watching the movie, you don't really feel the impact of why he is so broken, even if, like me, you gave the show a watch hours before the movie came out it's a little jarring, like if Aaron Paul isn't even playing Jesse Pinkman. However, a second time around, I was able to appreciate it a lot more and even change my score here from a 4 to a 7. I really didn't want this movie to pick up right where they left off in BB I think even letting a few years pass in the context of the show, you could still write a story about Jesse Pinkman running from the law as we see with BCS with Saul Goodman years later still constantly in danger of being caught. Still that was their decision and it does hinder the experience a bit but overall as a BB fan there is alot to like here. Watch it, it's a good bit of closure to Jesse Pinkman if you really weren't satisfied seeing him just drive off in the OG ending to BB. Expand

This movie gives us Breaking Bad and Saul Fans alot of answer's it fills in some blanks and gives us some sort of closure. all and all I am happy Vince and AAron gave us this story. I found it to be so boring, I ended up fast forwarding parts of this movie, and was left disappointed in the end. Breaking Bad was a great show, this movie did not do any justice to it.

still, this film serves its purpose wonderfully, and there's nothing wrong with it, it was beautifully shot and acted, it just didn't scratch my itch.

The look-backs are decent and there are some cool scenes here and there. Unfortunately the plot overall is quite thin and often almost dull.
We are introduced to characters who were part of the original show. Some were memorable enough that you recall what they did and in those cases it plays well into El Camino's story. But a big emphasis is also put on lesser known characters that I couldn't remember at all. The movie does try to remind us slightly. But ultimately it wastes too much time trying to make us dislike them enough that we don't loose interest in the plot they are part of. And that's when things start falling slightly apart. I simply didn't care enough about it to keep me interested.
So basically it's a fan service movie more than anything else. It simply wraps up Jesse's story. And it does so fairly well.

Absolutely amazing, closure for the beat ever tv show, Aaron Paul just shows that he was the glue that kept this show together. Even on his own he carried this movie, Bravo

As expected, Aaron Paul gives an outstanding performance. The rest of the performances from the other characters, including the many cameos, are all great as well and are on par with the main series. The film uses a lot of flashbacks to help remind you of what happened to Jesse and how it has affected his life now. They work well for the story and allow for some fan favourite characters to reappear. At the same time though, the movie also retreads a lot of story ideas already established first in the series, so in that way the movie did not offer up a lot of new surprises. A lot of what happens in the movie is pretty easy to predict, especially where Jesse ends up at the end. So in a way the movie felt unnecessary, but it is still nice to see Jesse's story definitively wrapped up nonetheless. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, there was no reason to make this movie...Breaking Bad was an amazing show with an amazing finale and anything added to it, in my opinion makes the series worse. And it all came about because people (who need to be negative) were all like, "It was a good finale...but....but....What happens to Jesse?" These people need to understand that unless every character dies, we don't know what happens to ANY of them when they decide to end the story. The same is true of all stories...movies, TV shows, books, plays....and actually WONDERING what happens to characters next is just part of your involvement in the story and we all don't need to be spoonfed some gift wrapped ending for every character in every story.

Secondly, the story itself was pretty weak and slow and unbelievable. The main meat and potatoes of the plot is "Jesse tries to find a million dollars, finds it, then gets tied up by other people looking for the money (who...as far as I can tell, should have had no reason to believe that money was even hidden there)...then, inexplicably, untie him....and let him take about 1/3 of the money and leave. Yes....crooks who just found a million dollars decide to let someone else take 1/3 of what they just found rather than clubbing him on the head. I'm not a thief but if I found a million dollars in real life and you tried to take 1/3 of it and casually walk away, I would probably kill you and bury you in a shallow grave...but not these guys. Anyway....we find out that 1/3 of the money is not enough and so Jesse goes back and finds the other guys and we have a wild west gunslinger battle...like literally. What?!?!??! What about Jesse's character in the series ever made us think that "Oh yeah...he has balls of steel and also he has mad pistol skillz"? That is really all I want to address in the plot itself as what I just described accounts for 90% of anything that happened in the movie. I know...it sounds like that entire plot could have been filmed in 15 minutes...and it could have.

Thirdly....and I know this is just the nature of the beast when you wait a long time to film stuff but almost zero time has passed in show-time (See: Walt from Lost)but some of the characters aged VERY noticeably. While Jesse looks pretty much the same....Skinny Pete looks 60 and the biggest transformation is in flashbacks of Todd, where Todd looks 15 years older and 75 pounds heavier. And while you cant do TOO much with the additional age or weight, he didn't even act like the same person....it was very distracting.

The only redeeming quality of this movie (and the reason I even gave it a rating of 1 instead of 0) was the cinematography. The scenery and the effects and lighting were all very reminiscent of the original series and were done beautifully.

I just realy hope there is not going to be a Skyler "movie" for the people who are wondering "But what happened to Skyler"? Or one for Junior....or one for Gomey....or one for Marie......or one for any of the other characters whose story just ended....the way stories do.

This movie is everything it needed to be. It resolved many open questions. It further developed the characters, especially via flashbacks. It has a great ending. It continued and resolved the great tragic comedy that is Breaking Bad.

Tod got fat as **** it really takes you out. Expand

Ties up almost all loose ends, quite a normal plot but Vince’s directing turns it into an immersive film 10/10 recommend if you saw breaking bad

I enjoyed it, but it came off as just a long episode of BB. Wrapped up some loose ends and added some details we weren't aware of, but in the end, I wanted to binge the rest of that season.
