Great movie. Solid action mixed with hilarious moments. I think Cruise, Blunt, and Paxton all did a great job.

Funny movie that takes a formula already seen and frames it very well in this action movie full of breathtaking scenes. After a while maybe it becomes slightly repetitive and boring towards the middle but redeems very well in the finale.

This movie made me feel pathetic for Tom Cruise. Brilliant writing and screenplay. Emily Blunt as Rita Vrataski is by far one of the most badass characters I have seen. The story is amazing, the plot keeps you engaged and however pathetic Lt.This movie made me feel pathetic for Tom Cruise. Brilliant writing and screenplay. Tom Bouse fait ce qu'il peut, c'est-à-dire pas grand-chose (comme d'habitude) mais s'avère (également contre toute attente) très supportable. Heureusement la gracieuse Emily Blunt fait plus que le supporter, elle lui vole la vedette. Sexy en diable et forte, charismatique, opiniâtre, une héroïne comme on les aime, pas comme cette connasse de Tombe Raideure par exemple. Bref, Emily rayonne ! Les effets spéciaux tuent la gueule à l'instar des District 9 et Elysium, c'est donc dire si ça envoit du bois. Malheureusement, hélas, tout cela est très mal filmé tout comme District 9 et Elysium... le montage est déjà perfectible mais c'est surtout la caméra qui bouge dans tous les sens, zoome comme une conne (aussi) et rend l'action trop souvent... illisible. I'd read that this film was recommended and given it involved a sort of deja vu type time travel, I thought I'd give it a watch.

While there was some good action scenes and definitely a fair amount (thats a bit of an understatement!) of CGII'd read that this film was recommended and given it involved a sort of deja vu type time travel, I thought I'd give it a watch.

While there was some good action scenes and definitely a fair amount (thats a bit of an understatement!) of CGI used, I didn't feel I was especially bothered about the key characters (who seemed a bit almost blase about the scenario they found themselves in) and the plot details. It all seemed a bit too far fetched I suppose. I'd hoped it'd be a film that would grab my attention and keep me glued to my set but that didn't happen, although I imagine that fans of sci-fi films, action based ones, may well quite enjoy this. It wasn't for me though.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. think this movie was overhyped. it was good, but i think the overhyping ruined it for me. i found that emily blunt and tom cruise didnt have much chemistry either... but the plot was amazing. the whole time loop/ ground hog theme always interests me and so this wasnt a complete waste of time. i also liked that it had a happy ending, i hate when movies have a sad ending to make it more “artistic” or more “original.” please, there are ways to make a story original without a sad ending. that said, im sorry to give this a 2, i loved the director’s other movie, the bourne identity, but just was a bit disappointed watching this. it wasnt a waste of time tho, it was enjoyable. just wish other people hadnt hyped up my expectation so much.… Expand

Usually, I find that Scifi action movies end up turning into a clusterf#$@ on screen with an oversized emphasis on explosions and a 5/10 unoriginal story. This movie is the exact opposite of this.

This is the GOLD STANDARD for movies based on manga/graphic novels. In terms of Scifi action, this is up there with Terminator 2.… Expand

Edge of Tomorrow is a sci-fi movie directed by Doug Lineman and is about Sargent Cage, played by Tom Cruise, who through a set of circumstances ends up on the front line of a war between humans and a group of aliens called Mimics, where heEdge of Tomorrow is a sci-fi movie directed by Doug Lineman and is about Sargent Cage, played by Tom Cruise, who through a set of circumstances ends up on the front line of a war between humans and a group of aliens called Mimics, where he kills one of the bigger aliens getting its blood all over him causing him to continually reset the day every time he dies. Before I continue I feel like i should mention that I hate time loop stories so my opinion might be affected by that. However I found this film to be just fine. The story isn't as repetitive as other time loop films. The ways in which our main character dies every time is unique enough to make it especially compelling. The characters are all written pretty well too. Yet this film does have it's fair share of problems. First the reason they give for why the aliens who have ability to control time don't just destroy the world instead giving us a fighting chance makes no sense what so ever. Second our main character can only reset the day by dyeing over and over again which for a normal human would servery damage their psyche yet Cage is perfectly fine after about a hundred times through the loop. The biggest issue is the performance given to us by our leads. They just don't have any compelling personality or chemistry. In conclusion though I have my fair share of problems with this film I still do feel like there is enough here that any sci-fi lover would find enjoyment, however I can't call it a great masterpiece of genre or anything like that.… Expand

A good movie at the time, on rewatching it is in my top 5 sci fi movies ever. I have recently begun to appreciate movies utilizing the Ancient Greek concept of the Cassandra Syndrome, Groundhog Day being the most famous. The film suffers from the fact that, as is too often the case, the aliens are a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Nothing is revealed about their motives or even their objectives, except that they appear to want humanity extinct. But it would be fair to say that "Edge of Tomorrow" is no more mindless than any other action flick and for the most part it seems well done and I remained interested throughout, despite the endless action sequences.… Expand

Easily the best big ticket film of the summer so far. The idea of combining "Groundhog Day", "Aliens", and the Halo video game is both thrilling and funny. Once the D-day looping gets going, the audience becomes attuned to it and revels inEasily the best big ticket film of the summer so far. The idea of combining "Groundhog Day", "Aliens", and the Halo video game is both thrilling and funny. Once the D-day looping gets going, the audience becomes attuned to it and revels in Major Cage's Sisyphus-like efforts to advance the clock and defeat the Mimic hordes. The filmmakers keep that editing relatively tight, so we are never bored by a "oh, this part again" syndrome. In almost a tip of the cap to "Aliens", Bill Paxton appears as a Master Sergeant more than happy to send the alleged deserter Cage to his glorious doom, only later to have his Kentucky-bred drill squad speeches defused by the front-running Cage, who by then has literally heard it all before.

There are few deficiencies. Emily Blunt is less believable as a ruthless Amazon leading the assault on the French beaches, but is solid as a romantic heroine. And the J Squad members are fairly expendable, which is fine by me so that our emotional investment doesn't get too fragmented from the two leads.

Despite much of the craziness in Cruise's personal life, he's still arguably the foremost movie star of his time. His films typically deliver a high-quality product with a recent predilection to science fiction action tales. Last summer's "Oblivion" came up short in that particular department but he followed that up with the under-rated "Jack Reacher" last fall. There's a surprising amount of vulnerability on display here as well as a hilariously cowardly squirm to the beginning of his Mad Men-turned-soldier arc.

I think "Edge of Tomorrow" will live on with the original "Mission Impossible" and "Jerry Maguire" in the Cruise canon for some time to come.… Expand

Edge of Tomorrow is the rare summer blockbuster that proves that smart writing does not necessitate sacrificing thrills in any degree. It is a film that is visually gorgeous (for the most part), very well acted, intelligent, and even funny.Edge of Tomorrow is the rare summer blockbuster that proves that smart writing does not necessitate sacrificing thrills in any degree. It is a film that is visually gorgeous (for the most part), very well acted, intelligent, and even funny.

On the surface, Edge of Tomorrow's plot is just Groundhog Day meets generic alien invasion thriller. But beneath this fun, disposable surface lies characters that bolster the strength of the narrative enormously. This story is a story about people and how war and heartache affect them and how they relate to others. Tom Cruise delivers one of the best performances of his career in which he develops his character tremendously from timid white-collar worker to battle-hardened callous warrior. Emily Blunt also radiates genuine emotion (as always) as she effectively develops her character alongside Cruise's. There is not a single bad or even mediocre performance in this film. Everyone excels in their roles and they are greatly assisted in their effort by a perfectly paced, tonally balanced script. Even though the premise hinges on the concept of living the same day again and again, boredom is never allowed to creep in as every scene feels fresh, sharp, and casually smart.

The movie has visual splendor to spare, boasting action scenes that do not feel clichéd in the least bit and alien antagonists that are just as visibly original as the scenes they are in. Some of the camera work feels a bit too chaotic for comfort, but it's not something that is persistent throughout the film and it is usually to be expected from an action blockbuster that's as big and loud as this one.

Edge of Tomorrow is one of the most under-appreciated action flicks out there, and given its fairly basic but fun concept, there is nothing that could have been done better here.

I really wasn't expecting much from this one. After Cruise's awful 'Oblivion', this looked like another generic action flick with no heart, no brain and no fun. Fortunately, Edge of Tomorrow is a smart, often humorous and very tense film. TheI really wasn't expecting much from this one. The visuals are stunning, and it contains the best utilisation of 3D I've seen in a long while. Cruise is excellent (which grinds on me somewhat, as I really don't like the guy - but his talent is undeniable), and Blunt is effective and agile in her first action blockbuster. The comparisons to Groundhog Day are valid, and it might actually help to watch that first. This is that, but with monsters. A surprising treat.… Expand

I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but this movie is not that bad, actually. Better than your classic blockbuster, for sure. It does contain a few cliches, but I believe that to be necessary when making this kind of film.

Aliens from this movie deserve a sequel. Not necessary same as the first one, but judging from the first one people behind it have some fresh ideas in their sleeve. However, theEdge of Tomorrow is as exciting as it is unique; with fantastic action, a clever story, a script that forces you to love the main characters and a gimmick that really does work with the whole living, dying and repeating thing. However, the best thing about the film may be Tom Cruise, as he is so good in the film that I'm not sure it would be as good as it is without him. This is definitely a film I would recommend, but I don't think it would have anywhere near the effect it has on you the first time if you watch it again.

But yeah, it is a great film.

To the point that either I beat it pretty quick or I quit playing the game because it ceases to be entertaining, or fun at that point. So if a movie was going to emulate that concept why the heck would I want to watch it."

I haven't seen such missed analogy in a long time, guess that's what come out of checkpoint generation. Now imagine for a second that the game is really hard and you have only ONE life, otherwise the game resets and you start everything all over again. You have to master the mechanics as your 'final' run needs to be flawless, guess that could count as an achievement but not by today's standards... it feels like whole hotline miami on one life.

As for the movie itself I liked the concept and although it seem basic it felt refreshing and intriguing at points. Really felt like the execution was really on point.… Expand

If no sequel is on the reworks then this movie is one of the most awesome Sci-Fi movies of 2015! I loved it. I watched it at the Cinema and watched once more at a friend's house. It is not as dull or repetitive as the trailer suggests it would be. The trailer in this case makes the movie seem worse than what it is. A great movie you should put on your must watch soon list. 9/10 from me. PS: Tom Cruise shows emotions in this movie like he did in Vanilla Sky.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Certainly has some flawed elements. I cannot stand the love interest part, it was unnecessary. But of course a premise as grand of this always creates potential and I think this film did manage to fill some of it's boots. The action is impressive. You feel like you are in the middle of it all and that's very good. Also, the whole training sequences are great to watch and create great comedy at some points. Would've like to have seen more of that than the whole dilemma solving aspect to it. I see why people would like this movie, don't get me wrong I did, but I think it maybe is a tad overrated.… Expand

I am no fan of Tom Cruise, especially when cast as a hero. He strikes me as a second hand car salesman; too slick to be true. I had therefore no problem to picture him as the protagonist in this movie: an officer charged with speaking to theI am no fan of Tom Cruise, especially when cast as a hero. He strikes me as a second hand car salesman; too slick to be true. I had therefore no problem to picture him as the protagonist in this movie: an officer charged with speaking to the media: lacking any combat-experience and intent on staying as far away from any combat zone as possible. When ordered to join the troops in what his superior deems to be a walk-in-the-park landing, Tom blackmails his commander to let him off the hook, which severely backfires on him, for he finds himself soon stripped of rank among the first to land with the reputation of being a deserter who pretended to be an officer to escape his duty.

The enemy are called mimics for reasons that are never explained in the movie. They resemble metal octopuses, who move at incredible speed, mostly underground. They are aliens and that is about all we learn about them and that is all we need to learn about them. It suffices that they are a deadly force hell-bent on wiping out humanity(some decades in the future, somebody will write a book about how these inhuman threats are a sign of the times, just like 70s and 80s had their disaster movies).
D-day quickly turns into a massacre as the aliens wipe out the human forces before they can gain a foothold. Tom dies too, but before he does, he manages to kill one of the rarest of mimics, and finds himself returned to life one day before the landing takes place. Baffled Tom goes through the same day and tries to intervene the course of action in a haphazard way. It doesn't matter that he does because everyone dies.. and he does to.
And then finds himself alive and back in time again.

And so it goes. With each cycle Tom gets better because he knows what will happen, but also has a lot of time to gain experience, but dies nevertheless again and again.
How does he get out of this predicament? He learns with each cycle and eventually he is aided by Emily Blunt, who has suffered from the same effects.
Up till this sounds like a corny predictable movie, but the script isn't as easy as you might think. The focus in this movie isn't on the humans vs aliens conflict, but on the interaction between Cruise and Blunt and their frantic efforts to turn the only advantage they have, foreknowledge, against the aliens. The key to their success is actually their ability to convince others that Tom possess that foreknowledge so that they help in the effort. And this is the hardest part.

The script avoids giving us insight into the alien thinking. The mimics are kept as far away from the camera as possible and we never get a good clear view of them. This is smart for any alien eventually gets boring when shown too often. An example is the landing, in which a lot of carnage happens before the aliens themselves actually show up.
The movie even throws us of the track by introducing a twist in the story that makes the aliens even more sinister. Perhaps everything has been planned beforehand?

Yet there are flaws in the movie, such as the way Tom ends up in the combat zone. And also the ending is a bit contrived and clearly written to give us a good feel. There is nothing against a movie with a good ending, but one that forced makes for a lesser ending.
Also one wonders why, having the possession of a flying craft at the start of the invasion, Tom and Blunt feel the need to have to get a car and a helicopter further land inward thus getting themselves killed time and again?

Personally I think that the movie is at its best when Cruise and Blunt are together and it might have been more stronger if more time was to the group of people who aid him so that their characters would have mattered if and when they died.
My learning points about this movie would be that some more time could have spent characterizing the people who eventually will aid Tom. Spend less time on the battles in the landing zone and the repeating scenes(which in themselves are shot in a way as to avoid boring repetition, which ought to be mentioned) and give more time to the final attack.

My ranking gives this a 7 out of 10. This needs an explanation: in it's genre this movie is a 9.. but since ranks are given not to genre or category they are given an overall score. In it's genre of action sci-fi it desevers something of a 9. Which means it is pretty good.… Expand

A good blockbuster with good actions scenes, funny moments, and surprisingly some interesting characters. This is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen in my entire life. If I am playing a video game and I am stuck and have to play the same part over and over it gets ANNOYING. To the point that either I beat it pretty quick or I quitThis is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen in my entire life. If I am playing a video game and I am stuck and have to play the same part over and over it gets ANNOYING. To the point that either I beat it pretty quick or I quit playing the game because it ceases to be entertaining, or fun at that point. So if a movie was going to emulate that concept why the heck would I want to watch it.

This movie was so bad I had to fast forward through most of it, and not surprisingly, I was able to "foresee" what was going to happen in almost every scene I fast forwarded through to get to the ending which also so boring, cliche, and happy hollywood predictable. Trying to watch this movie was literally painful to the point that I could not take seeing the same stupid thing repeated agian and I have no idea how dumb much of the population must be to actually think this film was remotely enjoyable.

2/10 Most over-rated film of 2014, and one of the worst films of the last half-decade. Horrible.… Expand

One of the surprises of 2014 and one of the top three blockbusters of that year. Edge of Tomorrow is sci-fi, it´s action, it´s clever, it´s original and has a phenomenal pace and very well built structure. "Live. Die. Repeat" would have been a better title, but the studio ran an algorithm (probably) and went for a bland title instead, then failed to market the film at all. It’s sad that a lot of people didn’t see this movie. Edge of Tomorrow has to be the most unique, original sci-fi movie in recent memory in a movie industry that mostly releases sequels to previously released sci-fi movies.

The concept andIt’s sad that a lot of people didn’t see this movie. Edge of Tomorrow has to be the most unique, original sci-fi movie in recent memory in a movie industry that mostly releases sequels to previously released sci-fi movies.

The concept and the premise made this movie very unique. It used its “what if?” time loop concept very well and it remains fresh throughout the entire movie without the concept being overtired.

What also made this movie entertaining was its natural light-hearted humor. It makes the characters more likable.

The character development in this movie is really good and transitioned well for the character of Tom Cruise.

The cast performance from Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are amazing to watch. They had chemistry together as an action couple duo.The CGI in this movie makes this movie very realistic to watch as it’s like they are real weapons and real aliens. The direction and the cinematography is excellent for a movie like Edge of Tomorrow.If you need to see what the hype of this movie is about, you better watch this movie to find out. You will enjoy its brilliant use of the time loop concept, light-hearted humor that will make you care for the characters, great on-screen presence of Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt and great CGI.… Expand

This is for sure one of the best movies of 2014.Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise are just fantastic and the story is really original.There is a lot of action and it's interesting to see what they are going to do the day after.
