Hoffman is an informant but to what end is vague and meandering. A lawyer asks halfway into the movie if this is part of the plot, which i was also asking at that time. We do get a naked Erin Moriarty. And miraculously they make 70s drug parties look no fun, that's sacrilegious. Expand

The fact alone, that almost all characters involved are unlikeable will put it at odds with many audiences. Then, trying to squeeze some worthy personality elements from egotistical mainstream conmen (auto magnate John DeLorean, etc) and small-time boy-next-door drug runner (John Hoffman) is a stretch anyway. Performances are mostly on the mark but the potty-mouthed crude dialogue is often overdone and unnecessary.

The cars are cool and the production is agreeable but it often feels too far removed from its factual background to remain engaging, and somehow, the pacing makes the whole thing seem much longer than it actually is – this makes for not a good feel.

Elon Musk of the 70s.
It's a good movie about what happened to John DeLorean during design and producing of his famous car, the car that we saw on Back to the future.
Decoration, acting and flow of events are good enough but not as exciting

Decoration, acting and flow of events are good enough but not as exciting as the subject itself.

I didn't know anything of the story going in, and that was a very big contribution to why I enjoyed the movie so much. I liked the characters and cinematography. I liked the characters and cinematography. The connections that formed felt real, the humor was on point, and the overall atmosphere made me want to experience the time and place myself (if only I could).

I guess knowing anything about DeLorean's story beforehand might hinder the experience, which is why the movie didn't get higher scores from a lot of people. But if you're already factoring in things aside from the actual movie, also consider the crew experienced a hurricane on set in Puerto Rico, and still insisted on finishing the project on the devastated premises, aiding the locals greatly and keeping people employed. Either way, I think it's a great movie to spend an evening with, take in the time period, enjoy the characters and if you're unfamiliar with the story - it's a great introduction to an actual story on which the movie was based.
