I just like this comedy very much. Time passes and I have changed my opinion on many movies but this one remains for me 10/10 for decades. It is light and witty at the same time. And funny, of course:)

What a stellar movie!!! Steve Martin and Michael Cain have so much chemistry and the female lead is amazingly talented. This movie is definitely old school but it's wholesome, charming, and super well crafted and edited.

You'll find yourself laughing throughout and really care for the characters as well. The movie is really 8-9/10 but after watching The Grand Budapest Hotel which got raving reviews, I must give this a 10/10. The two films do not compare, with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels being infinitely better! Expand

Man makes money conning rich women in French Riviera, man shows up trying similar scam, takes him under his wing, hit on same women, fracas!
Average comedy which works through the good chemistry between Steve Martin & Michael Caine.

Not too many big laughs (Steve Martin's Ruprick bits are the standout) but it's entertaining & lots of good supporting actors.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a plot driven comedy about two hustlers striking their horns against each other to prove the superiority by pulling out an impossible con. Such feature requires unbreakable chemistry that is bang on your bucks and it has got it right where at first it might raise questions but both the lead actors strikes in sync. The comic timing is off the charts by Martin but the surprising package is Caine and his range of accents who is a match for Martin. Each gags in here are essential and aren't mere hoax that is pulled off to just reach the end point. It is filled with few typical comic sketches but is slipped in so nicely that it doesn't seem forced if anything, goes with the flow and makes sense in its own world. The writing is flat out hilarious and gripping with an overstretched view but is also justifying for the audience and feasible for the makers. It falls flatly on face on technical aspects like background score, cinematography, sound department and editing although the camera work is decently handled with bright and shiny visuals and breezy and colorful locations that makes it pleasing to encounter. As mentioned earlier, the performance is aptly acted out on the comic sequences but also gets few emotional touches right, like when Headly reveals about her character, Caine pours his soul into it. Oz; the director, keeps it light and crispy and wisely doesn't go cheesy or over chews its moments which is a trap that easily such genre gets dragged into. Gripping screenplay, hilarious references mentioned in conversations and Martin's physical comic timing are the high points of the feature. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has enough meat to feed off the audience for its runtime but it still is hollow and safe if cracked open and explored in it.

The Jerk had a lot of good scenes, but it wasn't a good movie. Three Amigos was a great idea but not funny. Father of the Bride franchise? Puh-lease. LA Story? Lots of good scenes but not a good movie. Martin's best is Roxanne and everything else isn't even close. Expand

The entire dynamic between Michael Caine and Steve Martin elevates this modest Frank Oz film and takes it completely out of the arena of the mundane and ordinary.
The plot itself doesn't have a lot of creativity, but with such great actors you couldn't possibly do wrong. It's a harmless movie, but fun nonetheless.

There were a couple funny setups and a few good gags, but for 90% of the movie, the whole bit is, "well, they're lying."
"Okay, what happens due to their lies?"
"Not much. People just kind of believe them"

An excellent comedy. Steve Martin is at his peak here and Michael Caine is also superb. This movie is full of great lines and situation. It hasn't dated at all.
