About as thin as the first one in terms of plot but its a massive improvement over the first.Ryan Reynolds is the quintessential Deadpool, Cable was awesome when he was on screen and Domino was cool in terms of being a new character. It's a fun movie

I just saw DP 2 for the first time. What I see reviewers missing is the creator's intent. DP 2 even more than DP 1 is WRITTEN FOR AN AUDIENCE OF WRITERS.

Other movies have tried this. It rarely works. Airplane! 1 is just about the only other success example. If you view DP 2 as written not for the general public but written for Marvel's stable of writers, fans very knowledgeable about comics and movies; and, people who attend ComiCon, then the movies takes on a much more positive cast. It's a movie of inside jokes, ALL inside baseball, deliberately so but still done entertainingly. Leitch did this again with Hobbs & Shaw (2019).

Comparing DP 1 &2 to the Donner X-Men series is foolish as a reviewer. The X-Men movies are trying to be emotionally affecting, engaging stories in a superhero genre. DP 1 and especially 2 is a parody of tropes like Airplane! 1.

This goes double or maybe triple for the fight choreography This is not John Wick 1,2, 3. This is fight coordinators making fun of fight stunts for fight stunt fans. If you have seen David's Snowball Fight made for the Apple 10 iPhone, on YouTube you will see the same sort of gleeful recycling of tropes. David knows he is recycling tropes.

To make recycling tropes come off this well is really hard to do.

Evidence: all the Scream movies, failed Pink Panther movies, the weak parts of Mr. Bean movies, etc.

I think you are on to something with Fletch. Fletch was throwing-forward to Ryan Reynolds' screen persona. Ryan Reynolds is Fletch on cocaine. Both are caricatures of sick young, know-nothing, adults with no learning, wisdom, understanding nor sustainable culture, atheistic consumers.

Fletch and Reynolds screen persona express a generation who grew up truly "amusing themselves to death" in Neil Postman's useful phrase. The emptiness, the vapidness, the lack of emotional honesty and self-connection is the pain their weal humor attempts to compensate for. Reynolds and Leitch do this artfully.

While I think it is not as refreshing as the first movie it has the same strengths, one of the best post credit scenes ever and addresses some complaint of the first movies in humorous ways like why there are so few X-Men ;-). Like the prequel we get the “Merc with a Mouth”, hugely entertaining humor, 4th wall breaks and an entertaining story that takes itself not too serious. This time we deal with Deadpools worst screw up that is so painful he just wants to die (Wont spoil details). However his regeneration does not allow this. He tries to save a child but unbeknownst to him this will get harder as expected. I try my best here to avoid spoilers so I am sorry for being cryptic. The story works well and is a good vehicle for the characters, humor and action. The old characters return to reprise their roles and the new ones are an excellent addition. Ryan Reynolds again fully delivered. Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller, Leslie Uggams and Karan Soni are also again excellent. For the new characters we get a truly strong Josh Brolin, good Julian Dennison, entertaining Zazie Beetz and Shioli Kutsuna. The humor is as respectless, dark and entertaining as it gets. There is no misfire. I have to repeat that the post credits are a highlight. The special effects are nice too and I think I said all there is. I give a rounded up 10 because this is a really good sequel and this deserves extra credit. Expand

I personally feel like it's a much better movie than the first one. The writing is vastly superior, and there's a layering to the plot that wasn't present in the original.

Sure, the swearing and violence was funny in the first - so I guess they decided to just do more of the same.
Plenty of dick jokes which aren't funny nor edgy.
I suppose this movie should just rate itself - as it criticizes its own story in the movie. Would have saved me some time.

Like Marvel films better than some do, have never been and never will be part of this ridiculous MCU vs DCU war, and the positive critical reception drew me in to seeing 'Deadpool 2'.

Being someone who really enjoyed 'Deadpool', though not completely loving it, expectations were high for the sequel and they were met. Like 'Deadpool', 'Deadpool 2' was very entertaining, and again credit is due for trying to take more of a comedic edge to a genre that can be taken seriously (sometimes overly so) and for taking risks. It's also a very good film and count me in as another person who found it an even better film than its predecessor (not many superior sequels out there), being funnier and more ambitious with a much better and memorable villain.

'Deadpool 2' for me did have its issues. There are instances where the special effects are rather ropy and artificial-looking.

Also personally found Julian Dennison on the annoying side and parts of the story are disjointed.

However, 'Deadpool 2' is very well made visually. Slick, stylish and brooding with generally typically well crafted effects. The music is haunting and rousing and most of the direction is very assured and sharp, and more in control of the tonal balances. The action is dynamically choreographed and exciting (the parachuting is unforgettable), the scale bigger and bolder, and the romantic and emotional elements just about avoid the mawkish sentimentality trap and instead give 'Deadpool 2' its heart. While not quite as resonant as in the first 'Deadpool' there is more of the man behind the mask.

Most of the humour is very funny and has enough freshness, though its extremely black and sometimes crude comedic nature again has proven to be an acquired taste. The jokes are more consistent and there are less "don't quite land" ones, while there is the vulgarity, the crudeness does not go overboard. As said, that it, like the first 'Deadpool', that tried to incorporate humour into an often taken seriously genre was interesting and refreshing. The story is a pretty lightweight one structurally, while showing more ambition in depth and scale than its predecessor, and is occasionally disjointed, but the hugely energetic pace, emotion, tension and sense of fun elevated it. The final act is much better here, more exciting, less muddled and doesn't feel rushed.

Ryan Reynolds brings charismatic charisma, vulnerability and great comic timing to the title role, one he was born to play and he successfully allows one to root for his character. Even better is a brilliant Josh Brolin, bringing all the qualities, but with more gruffness and even more menace, that made Thanos in 'Avengers: Infinity War' such a great character and makes Cable a significant improvement by far over the villain in the first film, being actually memorable.

Zazie Beetz was a fun addition as Domino (don't agree with the criticisms directed against her), Morena Baccarin and her chemistry with Reynolds still has heart and all the cameos from the X-force members sparkle.

Overall, highly entertaining and a sequel and overall film that ticked most of the right boxes. 8/10 Bethany Cox

So I was excited to see where this movie would take the character. And while it still is gleefully funny and raunchy, it is not quite as good as the first movie. And I think it's because the script this time around was weaker than the first. While it is true that the script never really subverted a lot of the superhero genre as it does blatantly copy all the cliches without much of the clever subversion the movie claimed, I felt that the movie was charming enough to really look pass the glaring issues with the first movie's script. This time around the story was just so much weaker than before, being written around a kid who is just not very good in this movie sadly, although that's because of the poor material he works with, as the character Russell is just not very likable or funny, outside of getting his ass kicked a few times which was funny (child abuse is bad regardless, but still it was funny). And it is in general weird that Deadpool would actually care about this character. It never felt like something he would do, although I am going to give the benefit of the doubt and say that it is true for him in the comics. The action, while not terrible, just felt kind of lazy and uninspired. Which is a shame considering director David Leitch's work on the first John Wick film. The only time I can ever say I felt any thrill was the fight on the prison transport. But other than that it's just by the numbers.

A big surprise was that the jokes and gags that callback to the first film wasn't the biggest problem with the film. Sure they do feel stale and a little lazy (although some callbacks are still funny), but for the most part I was still laughing and having a great time. Sure the constant sex jokes and pop culture references do get old, but the movie still does have a ton of wit to make the movie thoroughly funny regardless of duds that are in the film, largely thanks to Ryan Reynolds being perfect for Deadpool. Cable and Domino do make great editions to the film, as are the return of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (who doesn't get a lot of good lines in this movie like she did in the first film). The visuals and production are also a step up from the first film too, and also the intro is one of the funnest I've seen in a long time, although probably not as funny as the first film. Plus an absolutely brilliant post-credit scene.

It might not live up to the first Deadpool film, but it still is a fun ride regardless. Although I am rather worried that the third film will suck considering the trajectory of trilogies, plus the much weaker writing overall.

This movie just wasted itself in front of me and I could not believe it. The jokes did not land, one single time.

If you liked the first film you will find enjoyment in the sequel. The movie felt just as overtop as the first, but with enough of a story to maintain a nice pace. I did not get the feeling it was just a rehash of past ideas, it felt fresh. This may change after multiple viewings, but only time will tell. I have to give a special nod to Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz as Cable & Domino. Both gave great performances and were perfect additions to the Deadpool cast. Overall I was left the theater happy. Remember to stick around for that end credit scene, hands down the best post scene I’ve ever seen. Expand

Funnier than the previous one, that is all I need to rate higher the sequel. Brolin's wife must be happy because I am!!! And the funniest scene because all that happened until there goes to... "try the seven".

Everyone’s favourite anti-hero, Deadpool (Reynolds) aka The Merc with a Mouth, is back for more ass-kicking actions and fourth-wall breaking in this highly anticipated sequel and trust me you will not be disappointed. For this review, I will be writing about the Super Duper Cut, instead of the theatrical version.

After attempting to commit suicide due to the death of his girlfriend, Vanessa, at the hands of Deadpool’s target which he failed to kill, Deadpool was recruited by an X-Men member, Colossus, who wants him to join the team to help him move on. During his first mission as a member of the X-Men, Deadpool was arrested along with a mutant named, Russell Collins/Firefist (Dennison), after he killed an orphanage staff when he realise that the staffs have been abusing him.

While in prison, a mutant from the future called Cable (Brolin) arrive to kill Russell for reasons unknown. Wanting to redeem himself for failing to save Vanessa and receiving a vision from her telling him to protect Russell, he made his decision to protect him from Cable. After breaking out of prison, Deadpool organise a new team called X-Force to rescue Russell, who is schedule for prison transfer, and to fight off Cable.

Much like the first movie, Deadpool 2 is a very fun movie to watch and it is funnier than the first one. All the dialogues from Deadpool are all purely comedy which makes you laugh a lot in the cinema. What I really like the most about Deadpool is he made a lot of reference and easter eggs to Marvel Comics and DC Comics without any rights concern. I can tell that Ryan Reynolds really enjoy playing the character a lot and most likely won’t give up the role so soon.

Having watched both the theatrical version and the Super Duper Cut, both of them are really good but the Super Duper Cut has many new and additional scenes. Those new scenes have more character development for supporting characters to make it more interesting and more funny moments. Despite the new scenes, it does not really contribute much to the main plot of the movie.

Despite the positive element for this movie, I was kind of disappointed that Morena Baccarin was reduced to minor role. To me, it was kind of wasting time and she could have played a bigger role. If you are planning to see some post-credits scene, you better forget it because there is none of it. Not even in the Super Duper Cut. But, do wait for mid-credits scenes and even more scenes in the Super Duper Cut.

The story itself is more thrilling. The pacing is impeccable. The script also gave all the characters a fair share of screen time and importance that will make you thoroughly invested in them, specially the old characters.

In contrast to the original, the villains are very compelling and potent; because their motives are way more plausible, but most importantly more clear.

Deadpool 2 is also more heavier in meta jokes, and that's where "bigger" doesn't necessarily mean "better". Honestly, this movie has more creative and funnier jokes that you'd never believe they could exist, but the element of shock and awe can’t be put back into its bottle. The result is a smarter, and quite funny, jokes that don't work as well as the original's.

The action is very good, and that's very frustrating! David Leitch is one of the best action film directors who work today, because he make design action sequences and stunt work that can't be forgotten; some of John Wick and Atomic Blonde's action sequences still stick in my mind. However in this film, Leitch made enjoyable action sequences, but totally forgettable.

What surprised me in this movie is that it has a strong emotional impact that is rare to be in a superhero movie. Some scenes are really touching and emotionally devastating.

All in all, I think Deadpool 2 is a slight improvement upon its predecessor, but it proves again that Ryan Reynolds as Wade WIlson/Deadpool is one of the best superhero casting choices ever along with Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Also, this mid-credits scene is simply the best and coolest mid-credits scene ever put to film!

Compared to Deadpool, Deadpool 2 seems more comfortable handling the elements that made the original a success. The humor is bolder and more self-aware because the audience is already familiar with the characters. Ryan Reynolds masters the tricky balance between heavy emotion and outrageous wisecracks because the audience is trained to expect a joke for every heartfelt scene, and the movie gladly obliges. Every trick in the book is used to evoke emotional responses, but the winks to the audience make such manipulation acceptable, even welcome. For those worried that Deadpool 2 is more of the same, they needn't fret. The movie introduces a handful of new characters, each well-acted and funny in their own way. There are also some celebrity cameos sprinkled in. Sure, some of them are there solely to make a joke or two, but a couple of the new characters clearly places in future movies. Compared to some superhero movies, Deadpool 2 has a streamlined narrative and pulls off a highly successful third act. The climax of the movie not only avoids the Marvel "villain problem," but it's also packed with great action, hilarious jokes, and solid character moments. This success overshadows some plot inconsistencies in the first and second act, which are minor but might bother some hypercritical audience members. Despite Deadpool 2's undeniable strengths, two features hold it back slightly. First, the subject of death is handled with such inconsistency that it seems jarring. One character's death is an unspeakable tragedy, while another's is just a comic bit. The movie missed an opportunity to make fun of the careless treatment of civilian deaths in comic-book movies, but instead fell into the trope. Deadpool 2 also tried to make a progressive commentary on diversity in superhero films, but its minority characters did not have particularly strong roles. Thus, this commentary seemed a bit undeserved and out-of-place. For fans of the original Deadpool, the sequel will not disappoint. The movie capitalizes on what it did well in the first movie and the result is a riotously entertaining, surprisingly emotional, and satisfying second installment. Expand

ADeadpool 2: What the -
There are a lot of people that find Deadpool to be one of their favorite heroes- at least comically, like - in a funny way. Deadpool 2 reminds me of Spaceballs. I don't ever feel like I have to take the film seriously though serious matters arise in the film which are undercut by a lot of cussing and random commentary. It's tough to not like any of the characters in the film. Plus, a lot of Deadpool 2 is like watching Dan Forden appearing from the side of the screen to say "Toasty!" after a fierce upper cut in Mortal Kombat - though as an actual system propelling all aspects of a full-length feature film.

Firefist is right. I've never seen a plus-size super hero. Weasel is really funny. Domino, ha! Shout out to X-factor, and their serious replacements? Deadpool 2 is a funny film that slaps away serious topics by embracing and making light of them. After watching Deadpool 2, I feel like I'm done watching a draft of the potential angles for a film more than feeling like I've come away from a complete project (which - I guess, is the point of Deadpool 2?). Honestly, my mental reaction after watching Deadpool 2 is like Mary Elizabeth Winstead's reaction at the end of the Swiss Army Man.

-K.D.

Overall: 6.312/10

P.S. Yeah, I know. Everyone's a critic. Conversation is good. I'm not holding anything against Ryan Reynolds either. It's just - walking to my car, all that comes to mind is Mr. D from School of Life when I think of Ryan Reynolds - and then Blake Lively. The Age of Adaline. Okay, we're done here. Enough of the gush.

Not only was this very funny w/ Deadpool's (Ryan Reynolds) sarcasm but the story was such a breathe of fresh air as it doesn't follow the your typical good guy save the world from the bad guy plot. It was so much more nuanced as Deadpool is trying to find himself and his purpose while having to deal w/ the "annoying" X-Men that he interns with. The action scenes were also pretty fun as well.

My only issue w/ this is that their are a few bad and immature jokes thrown in that this movie could definitely have done w/out. So overall this movie is highly recommended. It's very fun, funny, and has a well done overall story. Congrats Deadpool 2, you're one of the very, very rare movies that goes on the list of, "Sequels That Are Better Than The First".

Okay, let me explain. Deadpool 2 is great. It is. It's great. It's funny, it's action-packed, it's got a surprising amount of heart, but it's a mess at some times. The bad first, but before that, go see it, it's worth your money, I swear. Alright...the bad. About a third of the jokes in this movie are recycled from the first one. This works for and against it as some of the jokes are still funny, but other times it feels like they're trying to hard or got lazy. There's actually one joke towards the end that goes on a bit too long and you beg it to end. Think Taserface but somehow more painful. The second part the aspects of the story. The story is not as pure as the first one; while the first one was pretty straightforward, this one was a bit messy and some of the shock of seeing a rated-r superhero movie is lost because of it. But the story is still a pretty solid one. NOW...on to the good parts. The acting is solid all around. Ryan kills it as Deadpool. Brolin is a great Cable. Miller is funny. Peter. The action is well shot and well choreographed, but that's because it's from one of the guys who did John Wick, so don't be shocked. There are plenty of really smart jokes in the movie that will leave you dry heaving, that I can guarantee. Also, this is a sad movie in some parts and you will be caught off-guard, so...yeah, be ready for that. In the end, Deadpool 2 is a solid sequel that does a whole lot better than the first, but does things worse than the first. Two steps forward. Two steps back. In my opinion it is because of this that Deadpool 2 is ironically just as good as the first, but for the right and wrong reasons. I will say this, I do recommend you watch it, then watch it again, because I still love it, despite some of its flaws. I'm glad its here, and I'm glad they pulled it off. Expand

Honestamente?

There's plenty of wisecracks made - random questions and the like (references to Yentl and Dub Step being 2 examples) and the CGI is pretty impressive. There are some good chase scenes too. It's a film to switch off and enjoy but nothing more. I'm not a particular fan of superhero films as such overall - I've liked a few but I'm by no means an expert in the area, although I did think it was a bit amusing how the central character references characters from other comic book-based film franchises (this is a Marvel Studios film and he references DC, as in DC comics etc.). Suffice to say, I wouldn't recommend letting younger teens watch this, as it is pretty heavy on bloody violence but then if you know anything about the character then that's hardly a surprise and indeed it's been given the 15 rating in the UK (you have to be 15 to see it). The cast is pretty good and its an entertaining watch, so I'd recommend it on that basis, yes. Expand

Not only was it hilarious and action-packed, but it had a lot of drama, emotion and an engaging story with lovable characters! This movie is pretty much the same, just with a bigger budget. You see a lot more locations with a lot more characters in this movie, and the action was improved as well! It was also a little funnier than the original, I think! It had a lot of heart as well. I’m not gonna lie, I got a little choked up at a few parts! Oh yeah, Ryan Reynolds is just tailored for this role. Here jokes are fired like a machine gun. Quickly, one joke after the other.

It's also super jolly and fun to watch, but in some cases the one sentence too much, too far .. over it. But

But that doesn't detract from the really good movie, and with Cable a very strong figure has been introduced and thus significantly better than in Part 1 Francis.

This film is an unparalleled parody and it is simply entertaining. Better than Part 1 and worth seeing.

Some good action sequences but otherwise a bit boring and tedious. Edgy in the way that an eight year old who just learned the f word is. Although to be fair I slept through half of it.

One of the best comedies I have ever seen. Jokes are really funny and i love all the fourth wall breaking. However the story itself isn't very great.

Perfect way to follow the first film. Just as funny with as many witty jokes and references for everyone to enjoy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is not very common for highly successful superhero movies that explore a new genre have an equally successful sequel. Superman and Superman II, Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, there are plenty of examples where a great movie is followed by a mediocre or even a bad sequel. But this one is definitely not one of them. Rather I like Deadpool 2 more than its prequel. Since the previous movie was more set up in order to give an origin story and have the regular good guy vs bad guy fight, it did not have much time to explore over its humour. And this is exactly where Deadpool 2 does the job.

The story revolves around Wade Wilson once again with his popping over his wife's death by a bunch of mercenaries and alongside that he is trying to save a boy from becoming a supervillain and getting killed by Cable. This movie it takes itself very lightly just like the prequel and breaks the fourth wall continuously as the story passes by. There is even a joke on Josh Brolin playing the role of cable as Deadpool says, "Suck it, Thanos!". Multiple comic scenes take place throughout the movie e which include the formation of the X-Force, Deadpool being made an X-Men trainee and no one taking him seriously, Wade Wilson been sent to prison, Deadpool fighting Cable and releasing all the mutants only to be ripped in half by Juggernaut and Deadpool growing out as a baby from the bottom half.

The action scenes of this movie are even better than the previous one. I really like the scene from the beginning of the movie where Deadpool is fighting a bunch of Yakuzas in Osaka. The camera revolves around Deadpool as he slices down all the man who have come to save the leader. When juggernaut and colossus are about to fight Deadpool says, "Big CGI fight coming up!". When he is about to fight cable for the first time, Cable ask him who he is to which he replies, "I am Batman!". Overall there are multiple action comedy scenes sprinkled all across the movie.

The movie also gives an important message, which is not something we normally see in an X-Men movie. Deadpool tells Russell to let the headmaster live, as killing him would send him on the path of villainy from which it will be impossible to come back. Instead of Russell Deadpool chooses to take the bullet from Cable and his death becomes the reason why Russell chooses to give up killing and become a good person instead. This also saves Cable's family from dying and he can go back in peace. But soon afterwards that message is discarded after the headmaster is run over by Dopinder's taxi, thus fulfilling his dream of becoming a contract killer.

Deadpool 2, being the movie for a mature audience as it is, is hard to think of home to watch with, considering such a movie cannot be watched with the family and friends have watched it anyway. This is the reason why it's a good thing they decided to make a sequel of this movie and connect it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants were not made, this could have been the most perfect way to culminate the X-Men franchise and merge it with the remaining Marvel Cinematic Universe. I can't wait to watch more of this.

The Incredible Hulk isn't very Incredible.
Edward Norton gives a good performance but the concept of Hulk itself just seems tired. There is no new outlook on the hero just simply a repeatedly mediocre take on a very one dimensiona

Deadpool 2 is even better thanks to more characters that are excellent. The soundtrack also has excellent and action scenes perhaps not to mention. Unfortunately, even here there was a minor nonsense that spoils the film, namely the unnecessarily stretched end, which is perhaps even predictable for most. In addition, it is an amazing Marvel, which I can recommend to you. Expand

While the humour is crude at times, it is funny. The concept does work a second time around.

Better than the first movie in every way possible. The action sequences are awesome and the humor is way better. Also the pacing is significantly improved, and there are some cool additional characters.

It is very much more of what you liked about the first one. For something that felt as bold and daring within the restraints of studio movies as the first Deadpool, this causes Deadpool 2 to feel more like the cold, calculated corporate machine it's satirizing. Though, getting to see Colossus take on the Juggernaut in an all-out CGI slug fest is admittedly pretty cool. Expand
