Creed was definitely a fresher in the Rocky saga, lead now by Adonis Creed performly well by Michael B. Jordan, trained by the one and only Rocky Balboa in one of his more mature but good performance by Sylvester Stallone, directed by Ryan Coogler, Coogler used to make these fascinating and incredible long shot in Creed and i really really like that, the quality of the film was great, the music was great, supporting cast was great, and the story of Creed was in a way did feel like you're watching the first Rocky again, the differences is it's more modern and of course different personality and Adonis works for me, so overall for a 2 hours plus movie Creed was followable, i did wish i get to see a more epic main event and just a bit more of Ricky Conlan before the main event so i can taste his character even more but for what it is i'm still fine with it, Creed overall was still a great film, a great fresher, a great starter that still not perfect and i do hope it's going to be better and better.

I liked that they followed the timeline and everything is connected. Apollo Creed was very important for Rocky and making a film of him training Apollo's son targeted emotions of boxing viewers that like Rocky. Michael B Jordan fits perfectly in the role and the way he acted is stunning, he showed a lot of emotions that cause the audience to feel his pain but also his happiness and how he managed to learn from his mistakes and maximize his potential by mixing strength and intelligence. The connection between Rocky and Creed was very important for the movies success. Since the beginning of the movie I felt how it engaged me and made me feel part of it. It also connects with young people and I know some of them have started to watch the Rocky movies due to the success of Creed. I really liked the movie, the environment, the scenes, and the actors performances. Expand

Supr workout, which we have already seen with Rocky and even better. It's just the relationship already, well. When we watched practice and cheered on Rocky for many years, it's suddenly weird to watch him only from the point of view of the coach and cheer for Creed. But otherwise don't get me wrong. A good movie. Oh yes. I recommend it, especially to fans of the Rocky series, who long for a new film, which unfortunately can no longer be made due to the age of Sylvester Stallone, so at least we can see it here in the form of a coach. It fits almost everything like a fist on the eye and is blessed with brilliant acting. Michael B. Jordan in particular but also Rocky himself do a great job.

The film takes you on a journey like the old Rocky parts could and always lets you cheer.

Here you just have to step into the ring, this film is worth it.

Best Stallone performance? Definitely

Adonis guided by his mom try to follow a normal life, but he just can't do it, so he, that already is very familiarized with fightining, got to a bus to Philladelphia, where he can meet and train with one of his father's best friends and best fighters in history, Rocky Balboa and become a professional boxer. Altrough the idea to make this film is really nice, the story itself isn't much original, it actually looks a lot like the first Rocky movie, with different motivations in some aspects, but in overall is that old and known story, not bad at all, but very familiar. That hero journey with downs, reluctance, fighting and a rising ending. The whole journey is good, how he goes to Rocky, his relationship with him, you can feel the difficult sometime, the struggle and the happiness. The movie also contain some funny parts, they do work pretty well. The Adonis Creed looking for proving that he is deserving is a great thing in here, it is a perfect inspirational for him and for us to watch, i really wanted to know how it was gonna go. Michael B. Jordan did a great performance, his character so as intimidating, also have a sensitive layer, he convinced in a lot of moments, rage, happiness, sadness, hope, great job. The fact that we already know kind of how the story gonna go, the up and downs, one differential thing that they added is the side parts of Adonis, while one is very crucial, the other not that much in the story perspective, wich would be: Rocky and Bianca.

Rocky, i just think that he is more than perfect in this film, a post post carreer after retired more than one time, after a lot of dead friends and familiars gone, he is staying with a way more relaxed life, but in other hand, very alone, without much people in his side, a Rocky that lives a lot in the past with what he have accomplished. While he apparentely wasn't doing many things in his life anymore, Adonis came and gave him some new challenge, some new goals in his life, and i think that this was just amazing. Sylvester Stallone did a hell of a great job, he could culminate all of that and you truly feel that he went through a lot, because he did, the guilt, missing, solitude, all of that he delivered.

Bianca, i did like her character, since the first moment where she appeared in the story i already did, she seemed totally free and different, the chemistry between her romantic couple works just fine, you buy them. Her hearing situation together with the music and shows kind of give some layers to Adonis, but not really, it feels like if you cutted her character off the film it wouldn't feel incomplete, and that is always a problem, she could have had more impact in some way. Tessa Thompson did a very nice job, the caring and the rebel way, it was really nice.

There are two big fights in this film. The first one, i gotta say, it is unbelievable, for this one there isn't many different moves or inspirational moments, but again, is the first big fight, and for compensate that, what they did was more than great, they did the whole fight in a long take, no apparent cuts at all and that was incredible, the camera goes there and come back in here, the movimentation and the choreography is all great, it is fun, the camera goes to Rocky, then to the other trainer, it was fantastic, you can always hear Bianca and Rocky giving tips and participating. The second fight, isn't in a long take, but in other hand, it is so enthusiastic, since the first minute, how much the fight means, for him to be someone or not, the narrative was really important to make this one works how it did, the whole situation for Creed to prove to himself that he is not a fraud, that he is real and deserves by his own merits was a strong aspect. The whole fight is great, the choreography is really good, while the fight is going i was getting more tense of what could happen, together with other characters, all the time they showed, Rocky, Bianca and Adonis mother, wich was perfect in giving more blood into it. The fact that they brought a real boxer is really interesting Tony Bellew does act fine, but his moviments are very subtle on ring and while together with Michael B. Jordan i'm sure that they had a lot of tips from Tony on what could have been better to do, so as Gabriel Rosado. While the final ending you are cheering all the time, punching together and screaming together with the crowd, it is so well done and the whole thing is very satisfying.

The soundtrack is really on point, there are rap songs playing all the time wich fit perfectly with the context in a lot of moments, the songs are good and got me cheering in a lot of moments. The score is great and there is one specific moment where they play the classic Rocky theme, and it is perfect, the one moment where this happens is fantastic and pumped me up, really powerful moment.

This is the best performance from Sylvester Stallone I have ever seen. I still think he deserved that Oscar more than Mark Rylance. The story about an underdog is simple and cliched, but the dialogue and the characters make this movie shine. I'm so glad to say that the seventh movie of this wary franchise with ups and downs is at its highest and best ever since the first Rocky. The series has suffered from over familiarity and almost too much cultural impact. In all likelihood my generation of movie goers are more familiar with the endless parodies of Rocky than the films themselves.

So its safe to say reinventing the series is no easy task. With Creed however, director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan build on the Rocky legacy while creating their own distinct and entirely modern boxing drama.

The story centres around Jordan’s Adonis Creed, son of former world heavy weight champion Apollo Creed. Apollo (played by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky films) died in the ring after fighting Ivan Draggo, leaving behind not only his wife and their children, but also an illegitimate son in Adonis.

Adonis (or Donny) grows up wanting nothing more than to emulate the father he never knew as a fighter. After quitting his job and moving to Philadelphia, Donny tracks down Apollo’s former rival come-friend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to mentor him as both a boxer and a man.

As a sports film Creed very much plays on familiar troupes, as Adonis rises through the world of boxing all the while trying to get out from his father’s shadow.

However, it’s in the scenes between Stallone and Jordan where Creed really shines. The younger actor has been consistently great in almost everything he’s touched so far and his performance here is no exception. In certain moments the actor’s restraint as he holds back tears, anger and pride, is simply phenomenal.

Sylvester Stallone’s performance in Creed is by far his best in decades. In certain scenes his portrayal of the character he created back in 1976 is simply heart-breaking. In my opinion the actor’s Oscar nomination and Golden Globe win are certainly well deserved, wether he’ll win the Academy Award on the night however, is another matter.

Coogler has a great understanding of what audiences’ first engaged with in the original Rocky film from ‘76. As well as a compelling sports story the film was as much about Rocky’s relationships with those around him and the city of Philadelphia as it was about two men hitting each other. The director brilliantly recaptures this feeling in Creed allowing Donny’s relationship with ‘the-girl-next-door’ type Bianca (Tessa Thompson) to develop in much the same way that Rocky and Adrian came together in the original.

Although Creed’s greatest strength is as a drama, the boxing scenes are perfectly handled and give a real sense of being in the ring with the fighters. Despite being vastly different films, Creed shares certain techniques with The Revenant — namely the use of long unbroken shots. Donny’s first professional fight is shot in this style as the camera switches from one fighters’ perspective to the other in a fantastic display of fight choreography and film making.

If there’s is one major flaw in the film is that the focus on Donny and Bianca’s relationship can often pull you away from the Rocky-Donny storyline at its centre. Having said this, if there is to be an ongoing series the foundation must be this central relationship and in this sense, we may be glad of the amount of screen time given to Bianca further down the line.

To my mind any great sports film transcends the sport itself to become something more. Creed can certainly count itself amongst such contemporaries as Rush and Warrior in achieving this goal. Ultimately the film is about a lost boy finding a father and a lonely widower finding a son.

I for one can’t wait to see where this new series goes as it continues to step out from the Rocky series’ shadow to create its own cinematic legacy.

'Creed' was a movie that I had wanted to see in the theatre when it first came out, but didn't get the chance to. I finally sat down to check it out today, and after just having finished it, found that I really enjoyed it.

Billed as a spinoff to the 'Rocky' franchise, 'Creed' succeeded in making its own way while maintaining the great things that 'Rocky' was able to do over 6 films (ok, 5...Rocky 5 sucks).

Our story follows Adonis Johnson, a troubled youth, growing up in and out of the foster care system, until he is taken in by a woman claiming to be the wife of his deceased father. Adonis never knew his father growing up, as he died before he was born, according to the woman. Adonis turns out to be the son of Apollo Creed, former adversary-turned-friend of Rocky Balboa. As you may know, if you're a fan of the franchise, Apollo was killed during a match against Ivan Drago in Rocky 4. Adonis is the result of an affair Apollo had with another woman while he was married.

The woman who takes Adonis in as a child, Mary Anne Creed was Apollo's wife. She still takes Adonis in even though she wasn't his real mother.

Fast forwarding to the present, Adonis is an amateur fighter, fighting in Mexico and living in Los Angeles with Mary Anne and leading a privileged life with Apollo's fortune. Adonis looks to make his own way in life, trying to step out of the shadow of his father. He quits his job and moves to Philadelphia to train with Rocky Balboa. Reluctant at first, Rocky eventually agrees to train him and Adonis winds up scoring a title fight with current champion, 'Pretty' Ricky Conlan. Adonis, now fighting under the surname Creed, takes Conlan to the limit, losing in the final round by split decision but gaining the respect of the boxing world.

This movie was pleasantly surprising, as I am a big fan of the 'Rocky' franchise. I was unsure how this spinoff would fare. It wasn't a 'Rocky' movie but still had many elements of the films to come before it. Rocky's dialogue and mannerisms were on par, though his age and health status made for a different dynamic. His growing relationship with Adonis throughout the film was heartwarming. As Rocky's health fails and he is diagnosed with cancer, I really felt the weight of it pushing down on Adonis, as he'd began looking at Rocky as a father figure.

Adonis' relationship with love interest Bianca also was nice. She served as another emotional crutch and a source of motivation along with Rocky.

The training scenes were a lot of fun and reminiscent of the 'Rocky' franchise, even the music brought back that nostalgic feeling, but was also subtle and masterfully used.

Overall a solid film that I quite enjoyed. There were a few cheesy and unbelievable moments, but that's to be expected for the type of film it is.

My rating: 8 out of 10

If I were to envision the best possible product of the majesty, mystique, and intensity, brought to the table by boxing, Creed captured it all. From the brilliant walk-out music (the great soundtrack in general), the training, and absolutely stunning fight choreography and cinematography, Creed has it all. The non-boxing parts can feel a bit disjointed at times and then of course it has classic Rocky cheese, but it does enough to honour the original, while going out on its own. Ultimately, the fight for respect faced by Adonis "Donnie" Creed is a similar one faced by the film as a whole. Fortunately, it is entirely successful in forging its own legacy thanks to the fantastic direction from Ryan Coogler (I would be hard pressed to name a better new director right now) and phenomenal performances from Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. Overall, Creed is a great film on its own, but an absolutely phenomenal boxing film. Expand

CREED is the new ROCKY.

Honestly, I was looking for the 7th film in the 'Rocky' series, so this spinoff was totally unexpected. But it is the right thing since the Rocky Balboa is getting old. Besides, in this reboot era, keeping franchise alive and leaping into the next generation was a very smart move. By doing this, they're keeping the original series fans with them to back it. I hope this will only get going like the Bond movies, since the young star, Jordan has another 30+ year potential to continue the 'Rocky' legacy by delivering some hits in his belt.

I don't know how they have done it, just kept everything so simple yet delivered a successful movie. The director of 'Fruitvale Station' and its actor Jordan's second successive run. I wish the combo return for the third time for another grand scale flick. Of course Stallone's presence made a big difference, but the way his character was portrayed, I feel the next film will get more emotional, especially between Rocky and Adonis like Rocky and Micky. And I'm also hoping for a bit better romantic tale on the side.

I grew up watching 'Rocky' movies, so I wanted badly it to be at least a decent, but it is a fantastic flick and I definitely suggest for those people like me. The youngsters as well can taste the new beginning in the Rocky legacy. CREED is the new ROCKY. The blueprint for the screenplay was exactly same as the original movies, even the music was very comparable yet everything was updated to the current timeline. Now I'm looking for a follow-up in the next 3 years.

Blood and heart of a legacy, so passionately willed to the new era, it's breathtaking and beautifully heartfelt.

Rocky is an ageless underdog story told in simple yet approachable way, the best thing about it is it's also true story about Stallone. Creed taps into the legacy of the franchise while also presenting new blood, a sort of passing of the torch by Sylvester Stallone. This is drama in its purest form and with the inclusion of spine tingling nostalgia, there's no way audience wouldn't get emotionally pumped when the young Creed trades blow while familiar soundtrack roars in the background.

This is the story of the son of Apollo Creed, Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) who is trained by Rocky (Sylvester Stallone). It's one the best mentor-student relationships on silver screen, which feels amazingly genuine and perhaps the best acting Stallone has given in a while. It will resonate to audience, old and young, infectiously inspiring in every sense.

Fighting is the most elementary form of drama, you have the protagonist and antagonist as they square off with their fists. Nothing can be simpler, yet the presentation of Creed takes advantage of the depth of Rocky's franchise then adds a crafty visual to display the struggle of the characters, both in ring and real life.

Cinematography is pleasantly brilliant, there are moments when the fights are done so viscerally gorgeous or in one prolonged shot that it's nearly impossible not to be invested in them. The view of Philly, so familiar with fans is shown with care, it is a homage to the enduring tale as well as an authentic effort to pass it to new generation.

It's been a long time, perhaps since Hugo, that a movie is delivered with such love. Creed is a presentation of utmost care for the namesake, respect for its sport origin and visual of brutal elegance.

A feat that is all the more impressive for how infrequently the 'passing of the torch' style of film sequelization has actually been successful. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Son of the Pink Panther, Son of the Mask and a pile of other failed attempts at franchise resurrection speak to the difficulty. Creed makes it seem easy though. It creates fully realized characters that we come to care for as the film progresses that feel vital and alive, it is expertly shot and it end with a sense of emotional catharsis that is rare. Sure, it sticks pretty closely to the Rocky formula but it deviates in interesting and intelligent ways; it respects what came before while also finding its own identity. Ryan Coogler has crafted a masterpiece of mainstream sports entertainment here that also manages to be a love letter to the changing face of Philadelphia. An amazing film through and through. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having seen all of the Rocky franchise films this one elevates itself to the top alongside the first Rocky film. It does this simply by finding the core of the story, the continuing metaphor between the fight in the ring and the fight for life. This film finds two perspectives for the 'fight for life' that can relate to young and old. Adonis Creed is looking for recognition and a place in the world that he feels has been laid down as his destiny by his deceased father Apollo. Rocky on the other hand is looking for a reason to live as he fights a foe a greater and more deadly than any he's faced inside the ring. A classic tale brought bang up-to-date with a great soundtrack, a few humorous moments and the essence of the original at its soul. Oh and not to mention, a fair bit of cheesy montage training stuff! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well they couldn't very well have called it Rocky VI, but I would have appreciated it if they had called it Balboa. Sorry, but the main protagonist, Adonis "Donnie Li'l Baby" Creed left me uninspired, but come on, Rocky Balboa made this movie a great watch. Maybe Creed just wasn't a good role for Michael B Jordan, really he just didn't have the "Eye of the Tiger" like Stallone brought to Rocky. Baby Creed was left looking doe eyed throughout the film, no matter how hard Jordan tried to look tough. The Eye of the Tiger was the inspiration that Apollo handed down to Rocky, which helped him defeat Clubber Lang in Rocky III. Just bearing the name Creed and wearing imitation Apollo Creed boxing shorts (which was quite cheesy by the way) just wasn't enough inspiration for me. This film was a great send off for Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, I just wish it would not have been at the cost of Apollo Creed's legacy. Honestly, I had hoped the main event would have just ended when Creed was plastered to the mat by the much stronger fighter, 'Pretty' Ricky Conlan. What the hell was with that jump start that made Li'l Creed spring up off the mat like he just needed a moment to recollect a video clip of his dad (who he never actually knew by the way and wasn't anything like)? I thought someone changed the channel on me and I was watching Crank: High Voltage, starring Jason Statham. Rocky should have put this puppy to bed by sharing these great words of wisdom with Creed, "you just don't have the eye of the tiger, chump!" But in the end Rocky Balboa was the reason for this film and what a great reason. Li'l Baby Creed aside, Sylvester Stallone should win the Oscar for his amazing performance in this film. Expand

Originally thinking the last thing the cinema world needed was yet another Rocky flick, I was blown away by how good this movie is. Although the viewer benefits if they know the first three movies, the story is compelling enough to stand on its own. Both Jordan (no surprise) and Stallone give top notch performances. In fact, Stallone's is so nuanced as an old guy who knows he's an old guy, that he absolutely earns his Oscar nomination. Many of you might say it is a clone and that Michael B Jordan, Tessa Thompson and Sylvester Stallone are basically filling the roles of Rocky, Adrian and Mickey in the first films but to me it feels like a completely different dynamic whilst retaining enough of the semblance of the original dynamic to make it recognizable. The fight scenes are excellent, it is brilliantly shot, the drama feels poignant, personal and well written and all the actors and performances are great, especially Sylvester Stallone’s. Stallone is nothing if not authentic in his role - who better to know how Rocky would age. Most amazingly in the production is the uncut, lengthy camera takes both in the first fight, as well as the walk from the locker-room out the ring in Liverpool. Many other elements thoroughly invoke the realism of this story - the lone regret is how Adonis gets to this point at the beginning of the story. Wondering if there is 10 minutes early in the film, left on the cutting room floor, that showed Adonis fighting in Mexico (something we only hear about).

Overall, an engrossing and engaging film - didn't matter if you saw everything coming or had read the screen play word of word. I always held Rocky II and III in high regard - stopped following the series after the debacle that was Rocky IV (especially that speech at the end). This IS the next best film in the series after the original.

While it deftly acknowledges the previous films, it is unequivocally Adonis Creed's story and Rocky Balboa is a supporting character. Fortunately, this means that a detailed knowledge of the previous Rocky films is not necessary and the film can easily be enjoyed on its own merits.

The story rests firmly on the relationship between Michael B. Jordan's eager, ambitious Adonis Creed and Sylvester Stallone's Rocky, and the chemistry between the actors is the films greatest strength; Creed is a young man in need of a mentor and father figure, while Rocky is a lonely, ageing man in need of a purpose, and it is the evolution of their relationship that forms the emotional heart of the film. Both actors perform strongly, with Stallone's turn as the ageing, directionless former champion of particular note (surely Oscar nomination worthy).

There are some extremely well shot fight sequences, particularly the one take boxing match, and the way it reinterprets classic sequences is very enjoyable for those familiar with the originals.

Overall, Creed is a thoughtfully made, skilfully acted, and highly enjoyable film that ends up being much more than simply a "boxing movie".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. YOU can’t keep a good fighter down.

And while many would have been happy for cinema’s greatest boxer Rocky Balboa to stay down after the surprising success of his self-titled and sixth film nine years ago, you’ll be glad he got back up off the canvas for a seventh round.

To be fair though, this is not Rocky’s fight. It’s a passing of the torch, or gloves as it were, to Adonis Johnson aka the illegitimate son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s opponent in the first two films of the series (and friend in the third and fourth).

“Baby Creed” is played by Michael B Jordan (Chronicle, Fantastic Four), a troubled young man who didn’t know his father but is drawn to Apollo’s legacy and the world of boxing.

After a promising start to his pugilistic career but with a temper in danger of landing him in trouble, the young Adonis packs in his job as an accountant to follow his boxing dreams.

He moves from LA to Philadelphia, tracks down Rocky (Stallone, of course) and begins training, hiding the fact he’s Apollo Creed’s son from everyone but Rocky.

So far, so formulaic, and on paper this looks like an uncalled-for cash-grab; a desperate attempt to restart the franchise. But the reality is this is one of the best films of the Rocky series – one worthy of the championship belt.

Creed is filled with the rich history of its predecessors but is not weighed down by it. Perhaps its greatest feat is walking the line between the old and the new – fans of the series will be well rewarded, but newcomers will find this a great starting point to the saga.

The film is totally Adonis’, and therefore Jordan’s, but it does a great job of valuing and honouring Rocky, and therefore Stallone.

Jordan’s performance is great, both in terms of the physicality and the dramatic requirements. He owns a tough role that is constructed almost entirely in the shadows – not only of his character’s father, but of Stallone, of Balboa, and of the Rocky legacy. That he doesn’t buckle under all that weight while comfortably creating a new character is something to be applauded.

But the real star of the show is Stallone. A best supporting actor Oscar nomination beckons. After seven films, Rocky is a comfy pair of slippers for him, but in the transition from ageing fighter to “loveable uncle”, he adds new depth and new dimensions to the character that is the best display of Stallone’s talents since Cop Land.

Coogler, directing his own script, is the quiet achiever here. He gives both Adonis and Rocky good arcs, and you can see the screenplay is the real difference between this being a cheap knock-off and the real deal. But he also handles the action well. The film’s middle fight – a one-take, two-round sizzler – is masterfully done, as is the way he builds momentum in the final bout.

The flaws are few but are really no fault of the film’s. There is nothing truly new here – no surprise given this is Rocky VII – and you can spot the story’s beats from a mile away, which takes some of the punch (ahem) out of proceedings.

There is also a fine line between melodrama and real heart, and which side Creed falls on may well depend on your frame of mind when you step in the ring. Similarly, it’s humourless/serious approach skews toward self-parody, something amplified by the over-the-top and unbelievable nature of the climactic bout.

But Creed has the potential to win you over if you let it. The injection of new blood, dealt with intelligently, makes for an enjoyable new story in the Rocky saga, aided in no small way by Jordan, Coogler and, dare it be said, a career-best turn from Stallone.

Creed is easily one of the best movies of 2015.The story flows and it's heading the Rocky series in a good direction . Stallone may have pulled off his best performance to date , and Micheal B Jordan performance is not far behind.

I really liked this movie, even though not much new and a somewhat retold story of first Rocky (in a way), but still, was interesting to watch and what I liked even more was how it was shot - especially the fight scenes, really entertaining. And performances from all actors were quite good too, so all in all this was one of my favorite movies that I watched lately. Of course as an Evertonian there is a bonus with Tony Bellew in it too. After the sixth installment of the Rocky franchise it seemed like the series had finally run its course, but Ryan Coogler managed to come along and inject some new life into this franchise. Ryan Coogler both writes and directs beautifully by creating new great characters with new stories while also paying tribute to the Rocky films that came before it. Michael B. Jordan is officially a movie star. This kid showed how talented he was with Fruitvale Station and now he's got a role that makes him unavoidable. Sylvester Stallone is back as Rocky and he plays him beautifully. Stallone simply just will never forget how to play him, but he doesn't steal the spotlight either. This film belongs to Jordan and Coogler. The fights are outstanding and truly some of the best fight scenes in all of film. We even get a fight that is done all in one take which I'm sure many people wouldn't notice and that's a huge accomplishment. I can't wait to see a sequel for this film and Coogler better be involved. He better take Black Panther too. Expand

Creed is the seventh film on the Rocky franchise, directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson the son of Apollo Creed,Sylvester Stallone returning to play Rocky Balboa and Tessa Thompson as Bianca.
Creed follows Adonis Johnson, who's father (Apollo Creed) died before he was born. However he loves to box and one day he decides to seek out Rocky Balboa to train him.Rocky sees Apollo in Adonis and agrees to train him, even though he battles a deadly opponent but with Rocky's help he will train and try to make a name for himself not just depend on his father's.
This movies, much like Rocky (1976),it's not concentrated on the boxing as much as in the characters.Adonis Johnson is played wonderfully by Michael B. Jordan who is definitely Oscar worthy with this performance.Adonis is trying to prove that he was not just a mistake and show the world that he can fight. He goes through a lot of struggle but with the help of Rocky he will try to overcome his fears and be better at what he does.
Sylvester Stallone is magnificent on the iconic role again. He proves that The Expendables it's not all he does and he is worthy of a lot more.
One of the first professional fights on the ring that Adonis has it's been made to look as one-shot take and it's brilliant.I really loved that scene and even more than the final battle.
I really like the personal struggles that the characters have to go through, the way they overcome them and the dialogue between the two main characters it's really good and sometimes even touching.I was tearing up in a few scenes and the amazing soundtrack coordinating with the lines of the dialogue made for some pretty intense/sad scenes.
I really liked Creed,it's certainly one of the best movies of the year and worthy of many awards.

Pretty good and much better than I expected it to be walking in.

Everyone did a great job in this film and despite hating pop-culture and rap I found myself liking the Adonis character. He was believably flawed yet down to earth and likable as was his girlfriend. Stallone also did a good job playing the reluctant teacher albeit his story has really gotten much too tragic to the point of absurdity. Hopefully the next Creed movie will give Rocky a much needed break (what happened to the money he made from the last film?).

This is (yet another) coming of age story, this time about Apollos illegitimate son Adonis. He starts off as an immature brat looking for fame but unlike his mirror characters (Tommy Gun) he has some semblance of empathy and decides to follow the right path. He mature greatly by the end of the film and you couldnt help but cheer for him as he even helps Rocky overcome a situation of his own. The love story is also fairly believable and like Rock with Adrian, the relationship plays an important part in helping Adonis move past his hangups about his father.

A good movie. It is not nearly as good as Rock 1, slightly worse than Rocky 2, but it is much better than 3 through 6. The one thing this movie is missing is a great music track... there really was no good music in this movie unlike the unforgettable masterpieces by Bill Conti in the old movie. I really think they should have used at least one of the original songs in this one but maybe that is just the sap in me talking. Good flick overall and I am looking forward to a part 2.

If I were to envision the best possible product of the majesty, mystique, and intensity, brought to the table by boxing, Creed captured it all. From the brilliant walk-out music (the great soundtrack in general), the training, and absolutely stunning fight choreography and cinematography, Creed has it all. The non-boxing parts can feel a bit disjointed at times and then of course it has classic Rocky cheese, but it does enough to honor the original, while going out on its own. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A logical and strong entry in the Rocky cannon. Just like it's predecessor, the effective "Rocky Balboa", the film goes for the realism and heart of the first two Rocky films. Rocky Balboa (who Adonis Creed refers to as "Uncle") is now a sympathetic and endearing character who you want to root for just as much as Michael Jordan's Adonis Creed. The finale (Creed must face a formidable opponent that is about to serve a very long prison sentence) is satisfying too. Expand

So I've just seen "Creed" and it was pretty good. I would go that far and say it's the best Rocky movie since the first.

Ryan Coogler directed the hell of this movie and let me just say it was beautifully executed. Coogler brings a fresh and brilliant story that really made "Creed" as special as it is.

Sylvester Stallone delivers one of the best performance in his career and I really hope he gets an Oscar nomination for this, because he's performance was both terrific and stellar.

Same with Michael B. Jordan as he delivered a terrific and solid performance, I mean right after "Fant4stic" you would think his career has just gone down the drain, it's not until "Creed" came to save him.

The camera work for the fight scenes was excellent, it was inspiring, it had passion and overall it's a great movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie is a solid eight, which puts it squarely at "worth the money." While this movie isn't going to win any awards, it does highlight the amazing endurance of the Rocky franchise, but also the boxing mythos, in general: the fallen son, redeemed by his adopted family and adopted father. While there are moments in the movie, like Rocky's cancer, the quality of opponents, and the relative ease that he becomes a "good" fighter, the ending is very satisfying. The challenge with most boxing movies is it literally comes down to a single event, so there's a 50-50 chance it will end in a way that you expected, fortunately they chose a different path. With the loss at the end, but a loss that shows his potential, the movie shows that it isn't above it's own myth creation and lives in the, somewhat, real world.

Great to see in the theaters or as a Netflix night.

Frankly, 'Creed' is one of the best movies I have seen all year - This is for a variety of reasons, lets start with the fact that the direction is expertly crafted. The fight scenes seem so real, it truly feels like I am in the ring with Creed and Rocky themselves when these fights break out. The ending was perfect, it was open-ended (left for a sequel I suppose) and it left a smile on my face. Some bad things are the relationship between creed and a girl seems forced just to have a love interest in the film. Also the 'villain' (if you can call him that) was stupid, It felt like a cartoon and kind of cheapened things up a little bit. Overall 'Creed' is worth watching. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just got back from watching Creed at the movies, and i got to say, it is literally the mirrored ghost of all the Rocky films and this is the next chapter in the story. Now Creed has the same Underdog story from Rocky but with a new emotional tone tone that becomes a beautiful story. Micheal B. Jordan plays the son of Apollo Creed and Sylvester Stallone reprises his role of Rocky Balboa. The performance of Adonis Creed by Micheal B. Jordan was amazing and inspirational for the character's will to never stop fighting and to make his own legacy apart from his father's legacy. And Rocky Balboa had a more calm role, but knows that he can't ignore that he has to train Adonis to be the best, and probably better than his father, but Rocky eventually finds out that he has a form of cancer, but that doesn't stop him from making Adonis the best he can be, which the sums up the fact that the performances of the actors were great. The fight sequences were quite an improvement as the camera movements had fluid, dynamic and clear. The music was just as motivational as the music from Rocky. Overall the film felt like Rocky with a different story but the same tone which makes this film in my opinion the best film of this year and possibly one of the best of this decade because the film is a straight up masterpiece. At first I thought it would be just a plain old cash grab with A-list actors to see tickets and spit on the name of the rocky movies but no. It's a well directed, well paced and very emotional boxing film. Ryan Coogler is a very talented director. He has a very strong attention to detail and emotion just like his last movie “Fruitvale Station”. I remember watching that movie and it just made me aggravated about the police and racism. The movie turned me into a radical I wanted to do something about it and Ryan Coogler does not fail to bring that same emotion to screen here. At times the movie can be very heart-breaking and intense especially in the boxing sequences. But, it can also have a light and strong heart bringing hope and cheer to the audience and characters. The only thing I can hope for is that there isn't a Creed 2 because with this movie making 30M and the talk of it in interviews there most likely will be. But, I hope the studios will have the decency to respect the franchise and the fact that there really isn't anywhere to go but down after this movie wraps everything very well. One of the cons I had with the movie was that even though it's formula was somewhat original. It managed to hit almost every cliche in the book and have characters act irrational so that the second act can movie into the third. The movies I enjoy are the ones where the characters don't act completely different and everything is so convenient to the plot so that the movie can movie along. But with all that said I think that this is a pretty solid rocky movie Expand

When he decides to follow in his famous father's footsteps, he travels to Philadelphia to enlist the champ as his trainer. The plot follows a familiar structure: intimate personal moment, dramatic encounter, training montage, big fight…repeat. Fortunately, a massively muscled-up Michael B. Jordan brings a fierce energy and determination to his role. Surprisingly, the film's most compelling performance (and the only humor) comes from Stallone. Director Ryan Coogler ("Fruitvale Station") has kept the interactions involving and made the fights forceful (especially the one that never cuts or leaves the close proximity inside the ring). This is a pumped-up version of the original, slightly too long, but big on heartfelt passion and personal power. Expand

Jordan straight-up carries the movie for a lot of the running time. The cinematography was superb and the direction and editing on point. Everything gelled. The only things I might have done different are to have given "Pretty" Ricky more personality aside from being a trash-talker, and taken a page from "Southpaw" and made the fights seem more brutal (not that they don't seem realistic, but that movie took it to a whole other level).
