Ultimately I don't quite think the movie lived up to what I expected of it, even though it would have been quite decent to good if it wasn't in the Rocky universe.

This movie ends the Rocky franchise on a low note, which is pretty sad considering how big of a deal the franchise is.

The drama has some low moments, but visually it's the more interesting film in the saga. Jonathan Majors is imposing physically.Fight scenes are awesome!

In my personal opinion, despite several people who have complained about it, I think Rocky's absence isn't a real detriment to this installment.
Obviously, this trilogy was born out of the character's franchise but getting him out of the way also took a burden off of this film.

This third installment won't change the paradigm of what has made the character famous, but it allows the story to stop being constrained by a dynamic that only developed between the two of them. Master and apprentice.
This has allowed Adonis' character development to encompass more of his family dynamic.

Certainly, Creed III is not exceptional, but its efforts to entertain the audience are genuine because it succeeds if that's what you're looking for. But it also leaves it clear that it's time to hang up the gloves.
I hate using this cliché phrase, but Stallone never knew how to do it and took his character to ridiculous levels.

I think it's time for Michael B. Jordan, who is also starting out as a director, to say, ''this is as far as we've come.''
With this work he shows that he can grow as a director because his film is superior to the second part. Nothing better than to close a cycle with the character as an actor and start a new one with other challenges.

I do recommend it because, as I said, its ambitions are focused on entertaining without looking for anything fancier. It is what it is.

Jordan stars as the titular Adonis Creed, son of late famed boxing legend Apollo Creed, and finds himself face to face with a childhood friend-turned-rival looking for a shot at the heavyweight title. Ever since the first 'Creed' film was released back in 2015 and thereby expanding upon the 'Rocky' franchise that humbly began all the way back in 1976 with Sylvester Stallone (who's noticeably absent for the very first time with this film), I've been rather interested to see where things would go from there for these characters and their descendants, and Jordan has always remained a formidable talent. This time however, he not only delivers another knockout performance on camera, but also handles offscreen duties rather deftly as the film's director. He carries both the muscle and the emotional heft needed for us to really root for him till the end. That being said, the film itself isn't quite without its shortcomings. For starters, the film uses an almost gratuitous amount of corny slow-mo shots of characters getting punched and pummeled around till we can see their skin ripple and glisten with an absurd amount of sweat. It becomes over-reliant on this almost to the point of becoming unintentionally humorous. Furthermore, it does contain a lot of the same predictable plot beats that the franchise has become known for (training montage included), and I also couldn't help but feel like the film felt incomplete without at least a 2 or so-minute cameo from Stallone as Rocky. It definitely wouldn't have weighed the film down at all in my humble opinion. On the plus side however, besides Jordan's stellar performance, Johnathan Majors (hot off of his villainous turn as Kang the Conqueror in 'Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania') once again delivers an all-too commanding and bravado performance here as the antagonistic rival. Tessa Thompson also continues to hold her own well as Adonis 's wife. The boxing sequences dazzle at times but also get a little too stylized and carried away at times for my liking. But overall, it's passable enough to feel enjoyable while also not quite feeling necessary to the franchise. Familiar and predictable plot beats weigh it down more often than I'd like, along with some corny and overly stylish slow motion and fight sequences, but Jordan's commitment to the character and legacy can't help but still be admirable. It has its lows and its over-the-top entries but for the most part, this series has been mostly hits than misses. Creed was a spinoff and I never expected to enjoy it so immensely. I loved Creed 1 and Creed 2 which is why I was hoping for a hat trick with Creed 3. There was some worry as this is the first entry without Rocky. it was also Michael B. Jordan's directorial debut with him starring as Creed and directing. So does it succeed or is this a miss?

Firstly, Michael did a great job in his directorial debut. He pushes the Creed movies out of Rocky's shadow and gives it more grit. The fights feel more visceral and flashy with some clear anime-inspired influence. He uses a lot of slow-mo which leads to some nice-looking shots. I also think the boxing intro and montage were also really well shot as well. He also does something interesting in the final fight that involves silence which gave it a new feel. The soundtrack was awesome and the cinematography is great. He also gives darker qualities to the story with the backstory and personal connection with the antagonist Damian (Jonathan Majors). On that note, Jonathan Majors is terrific as the antagonist. I love his performance, with the subtle awkwardness and slightly pained expression in the first half. Then in the second half, we get to see Jonathan give an arrogant, menacing performance when he goes full bad guy. I also enjoyed how sympathetic he is as a character as well. You understand why Adonis would help him. Additionally, Michael continues to give a great performance as Adonis Creed with the amount of emotional moments in this film. There is great chemistry between Michael and Jonathan which made the friendship between their characters feel believable. Tessa returns as Bianca and she is good in her small role in this film as well. However, I do have some issues with this film. The first half focuses on building up the characters and eventual conflict which is fine. The second half is incredibly rushed though with clearly many cuts made towards it. We don't get a great sense of how much time passed so it is baffling to suddenly see Damian successful so quickly. It would've helped to have seen Damian in more fights. We could have seen him growing more and more successful while also seeing how much of a threat he is. Unfortunately, this movie doesn't have a lot of boxing fights and enough build-up in the second half. It is also weird how quickly Damian's personality changes. Another issue is the lack of inner conflict for Adonis. We see him feeling guilty about what happened to Damian but that's mostly it. For example, we don't see his doubt about retiring or concern about his daughter and wife. On that note, there is a daughter subplot introduced in this film that went nowhere. Felt very pointless.

Overall, Creed III is another good entry in this franchise. It's an impressive directorial debut from Michael and I look forward to future work from him, Creed or otherwise. Even without Rocky, this franchise seems to be doing well standing on its own feet. I'm not sure what direction Creed 4 can go in but if it is of a similar quality to previous entries, then I will 100% be there to watch!

His ideas gave such fresh air to the saga and hopefully to the industry. Each fight scenes is carefully filmed to make it as good and interesting as possible. I don't want to spoil anything (yes, these fights can be spoiled) but as non anime watcher I appreciate how MBJ used the references to present feelings, tension and pace what together are building unforgettable experience. A next great part of his directing debut is playing with colors. I think all scenes are nice for our eyes, it's warm or cold - perfectly combined with the story what is happening during particular scenes. The movie is filmed with IMAX cameras so every sweat drop is so crystal (lol).
The story is pretty decent. It's very clear and understandable. We can root for the protagonist same as for the antagonist. Adonis Creed is not only a champ but also a father and a husband which is a really sweet part of this movie I love. Each character is important and adds necessary values to the story. To be honest, I would love to see more of them, that's why I give it 8/10. Definitely, the daughter should have got one more scene.
I can't wait to see more work of Michael B. Jordan as director

Not as good as the 1st. To be fair, nothing was gonna live up to the first. The 1st Creed was fresh and a new take, everything else was gonna be more predictable because it had to be.

That being said, this is definitely better than the 2nd one. They do a much better job of fleshing out the dynamic. The biggest issue I had with Creed 2 was I felt like the Drago story left much to be desired. Damian and Adonis' dynamic is much more at the forefront. I do feel like the final 1/4 of the movie was a bit rushed as there was plenty of time give more to inside the mind of Donny as well as the traditional training montage was the weakest in the series.

That being said this is a must see for any Rocky/Creed fan as Jordan delivers an above average cinema spectle for his directoral debut.

Jordan in his very impressive directorial debut takes Creed III on another level, the fights that you can feel to your whole body, with the incredible vibrating sound, amazing shot and color, both Jordan and Thompson performance at their best, and Jonathan Majors acting that can't get any wrong, sure there is a missing feeling of Sylvester Stallone abscent here, but at least there is still a positive thing about that case, which is makes the film a pure real Creed movie, makes the story works more, and still without leaving some things from who's still franchise is this or where it comes from, the final fight scene was top-notch, and the fight also ended surprisingly emotional and actually make me choked up, Creed III is definitely a theater must watch because of not only the quality, but the sound was incredibly jarring, story was good, opponent was convincing, everything was exciting and just a great time at the movies, overall Creed III was incredible!, it's one of the best films of the year, the second best after the 2006 Rocky Balboa in the whole Rocky franchise, the best in Creed trilogy for me. Possibly has the weakest boxing scenes of any of the Creed or even the Rocky movies. Michael B. Jordan tries to be too stylish with the slow motion and etc. The story and performances are at least good.
It’s funny how Jonathan Majors pays the older one of the two former friends. When Michael B. Jordan is 36 and Majors is 33.
I was into the main fight until it pretty much turned into a silly dream sequence. That was more about the cgi than the fight. By the time it got back to reality, I barely cared anymore about the fight. There was too much style.
That takes you out of the fight. With the last fight weaker than maybe any from a Rocky or Creed movie. The movie is more about the friendship and their history than the fight but still the fight was weak.

Good, not great. The film finally gets its own story instead of leaning on the Rocky franchise, but it still lacks that triumphant, boisterous energy that made Rocky so lovable.

It sets up lots of ideas but doesn't follow through when you think they will. The fights are better choreographed than the Rocky films, but you don't follow the dramatic moments like Rocky did so well. It's just two guys boxing till one wins. There's no moment of personal growth in the ring, a strategy change, a powerful breakthrough of strength. It just goes and then stops. It's good. If you like the franchise, it's exactly in line with the others and will not disappoint.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, the movie is OK, but there are just a lot of parts of it that kinda just don't work. Right off the bat though, I'm just gonna throw out there the part that drops my rating two letter grades, there is not a Rocky montage. There's montages, sure, but how can you have a rocky movie that doesn't play the Rocky music while Creed battles through training camp? It REALLY made the ending not hit for me, I wasn't hyped for the climactic fight like I would be in any other Rocky movie. Hell, I was more hyped for Rocky to fight at the end of Rocky 5, and that movie sucked.

That said, there are some other problems. One of my biggest is without spoiling too much, giving a character a title fight with 0 professional fights, to make that happen requires a fundamental misunderstanding of boxing. For a title fight to happen, a sanctioning body has to sanction the bout, and the commissions have rules about how you have to be ranked in order to be involved in a title fight. Now the commissions do whatever the hell they want a lot of times, but what they would NEVER do is back an unknown name or any name with 0 professional fights in any combat sport. Even Lomachenko, the most heralded amateur ever down in a weight class that title shots are given much sooner than the upper weight classes, didn't get a shot until his second bout and that's a man with 7 gold medals across different amateur tournaments.

Other than that, I mean, the story just isn't believable. How are we supposed to believe Creed's wife didn't know about his past in Juvi over like, an 8 year relationship? If you've ever been with a girl, you know that it's like volunteering for a federal background check but worse, she'll get that info out of you. And apparently Creed ran from the cops but his friend got caught? How did he run, the flashbacks show him surrounded and surrendering to the po po. And as cool as it was to see long guard and cross guard in the fight scenes with this movie's rival, it just doesn't make much sense. Nobody has taught the cross guard since Archie Moore in professional boxing and nobody has used it since old Big George days. It just doesn't make sense anymore, the Philly Shell is a natural evolution of the cross guard that keeps its strengths while minimizing its weaknesses. So the question arises, who the hell taught this dude the cross-guard? And lastly, the movie gives no indication the bad guy of this movie retained any fighting skills in prison. No mention of prison fights or flashbacks, so how the hell are we supposed to believe he could compete at a championship level? Its ludicrously baffling. The first fight sets him up to be a dirty fighter and he had already injured the first champ, so maybe you could skate by with that one, but going 11 and a half rounds with Creed? Get the hell out of here. He doesn't even fight dirty in the final bout! Its ridiculous and stupid, it has to be said. These are just things that seem like mistakes from people that don't truly love the sport and just want to make a movie, something that didn't happen with Stallone's movies.

Anyway, that's generally how I felt about it, I love boxing so I'd watch it no matter how bad it is, but this one wasn't great. A poor entry to the Franchise, I'd probably place it right between Rocky 5 and Rocky Balboa in the series so far.

Me encanta la franquicia de Rocky. Tiene sus puntos bajos y sus entradas exageradas, pero en su mayor parte, esta serie ha sido más aciertos que errores. Creed fue un spin-off y nunca esperé disfrutarlo tanto. Me encantaron Creed 1 y Creed

Not bad, even though very predictable. What works, and what made it worth my time was that I felt EVERYONE was into the story. It did not feel hackey. Well directed. Well paced, and well acted. But man, is it ever predictable.

Great movie from start to finish, has the emotional pull of the past creed movies. And still has the rocky vibe even without rocky in it.

As this is Michael B. Jordan's first film as a director, I think he is still figuring things out and doesn't quite get the look he was trying for. Also, the movie suffers a little bit to transition between acts; it always feels a little abrupt. Having said that, the rest of the film is effective. The main plus is the antagonist; Jonathan Majors portrays one of the rocky/creed series' most nuanced and engaging antagonists. Outside of him, the battle sequences are superb, the character development is outstanding, and the training montages are strong. Where Michael B. Jordan's style really shines are the combat sequences. Expand

Some shots look beautifulCreed III starts slow and takes its time to build its story and they do it beautifully. What this movie does well is its personal conversations that the characters have, it's very well acted, directed and written. Some shots look beautiful and Creed III made an effort to make itself look and feel different from the other Creed movies and it succeeded for the most part. This installment had a stronger story than Creed II which I think was Creed II's weakest point. Even though this movie is overall better than Creed II in a lot of ways, this movie has some pacing issues. Once you know the fight is on BOOM they rush through the training monologue and we are right into the fight without much time for the characters to breathe, and that feels inconsistent to how the first two acts were. This is a good installment to the Rocky/Creed franchise and it will be interesting where they go from here

*Slight Spoilers*

As a Rocky fan this movie was hard to get invested in. Rocky isn't in it, they changed the themes and moved away from the original score. I understand that they are trying to become their own franchise and they did a pretty good job being their own thing. Even though this is a better overall movie than Creed II I enjoyed Creed II more just because of the nostalgia it has on me. I don't know what they will do from here, but I think Creed IV is a make or break movie for the franchise. The next movie will either be good and they will continue the story or be really bad and they won't make anymore. I just don't see what stories are left in this universe without being it cliche or bad.

CREED 3 is a good movie and very fun. I am happy to see we can have a boxing movie without Rocky (Let the dude retire, he deserves it by now!).

There is really good character development around the main cast, though most of the side characters tended to blend together; no Michael Peña from Ant-Man here, but that is fine, it should be about Creed and his family, after all. They did pretty good with Drago and left me wanting a spin-off and seeing him become champion! I wouldn't be against a Rocky Cinematic Universe.

I also really enjoyed the music quite a bit, even though I don’t really listen to rap. All the orchestral and rap music fit the scenes and vibe of the film. And the boxing scenes may be some of the best looking yet. Like in every Rocky and Creed film, they try new cinematography ideas for the boxing scenes; they were pretty interesting. There were a few scenes I thought were a bit off, but nothing egregious. I did like the antagonist (though I wish they did a better job explaining his specific crime and length of time in prison) as it is one that feels multidimensional and has motivations that are understandable. If you are a fan of the Creed films, this is the third good one in a row and suggest it to any fans of the series. The movie is not perfect as the writing can be rough around the edges, but I enjoyed most of the film and it left me wanting more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Visually...10/10 ! Everything else is below average ! I can see somebody who isn't familiar with the Rocky franchise liking it but as a long time fan of Rocky and also Creed , i can't rate this one in a positive way ! There is no...emotional speech anyehere in the movie ! The last fight is...weak ! As a fan i wanted to see a war in the last fight , like in any other movie ! I wanted to see those epic training scenes ! The training is there but...it's not how it was in creed 2 or the first one ! compared to Rocky , it's an empty shell ! I know this is all about Adonis now and the Creed Universe but...this isn't it ! The movie is...average the most ! And except the visual quality ( 10/10 ) the movie is ... like i said , average ! Similar narrative themes can be found from writer Ryan Coogler's other films like Creed, Black Panther, and Fruitvale Station but Creed III's unique identity definitely comes from new-director Michael B. Jordan, who infuses his own sensibilities and tastes into every scene. Especially the fight sequences. The film's core story felt similar to Rocky V but done in the right way; solid performances, great cinematography, well-paced editing, and clear directionality to the narrative. The film charts into more familiar and predictable territory near the half way marker where character, unfortunately, take a turn into cliche stereotypes and lose a bit of humanity. Emotional clarity is lost during training montages and what's at stake is a little muddled. Fortunately, it does end off on a high note with a satisfactory conclusion. I truly did feel like the absence of Sylvester Stalone's Rocky was not only missed, but could've been narratively powerful, sending the film soaring. His absence doesn't compromise the film altogether but would've been a good film truly great with the right scene. Expand
