As you'd expect the visuals are stunning, but the real bonus for me was the excellent soundtrack. From my limited experience of anime, this was one of the more comprehensible (dumbed down, perhaps?) films from the genre, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Must be watched with subtitles though - the English language version is jarring. Expand

This film does a good job of what I think most TV to Movie adaptations should, Try to be a big budget, longer episode of the series, set on a larger scale. If you liked the series theirs a good chance you'll like this movie. On the other hand, if you never saw the TV show, you still might enjoy this. the film isn't really set in any specific part of the TV show, so if you were interested in checking out the anime, this might be a good sample of what it's like. That being said, you will probably get the best experience out of the film if you watched the show. overall, defiantly worth a watch, maybe even buying the disk. Very, very enjoyable. Great action scenes too, which is to be expected from Bones. While I would certainly give it a 10 if I got the chance to, I feel that it lacks the 2% that would have been nice if included.
Definite recommendation for anyone.

It's story is good, with moments that can make the viewer stand on the edge of their seats. The characters are well-made aswell, although the antagonist's goals might be a little weak, even the side characters can be captivating. The soundtrack for the movie, just like the series, is a masterpiece, the "americanization" of the setting is crafted meticulously by Watanabe and Nobumoto, which makes the songs even more fitting. The animation itself is quite good (considering it was made in 2001) having detail filled backgrounds in most scenes. One thing that really stands out in Cowboy Bebop are the fight scenes, because they actually make sense, being carefully choreographed making them feel like real fights, especially the last fight of the movie.
Since it's Cowboy Bebop, we also have to take a look into the meaning behind the movie, it's "philosophical" meaning is quite a cliché one, but that doesn't make it bad.
If there's a downside to this movie it would be the same as the series, where the pacing sometimes feels a bit odd and also some minor plot holes that can make you scratch your head, but none of these are enough to take you out of this futuristic bounty-hunting masterpiece.
See you space cowboy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its a great movie, fun, original, just like the anime, sadly the only real big flaws of the film are the music (not as jazzy and bluesy as i would have liked) and the fact that it really doesn't really add much to te main plot of cowboy bebop i wanna know if spike is dead or alive so spoiler review) either way its time for the cowboy bebop crew to return for one last adventure its 2013 and i want more Bebop) Expand

Today I found a way to watch it and it was worth it!
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is like an episode of Cowboy Bebop, but longer than the rest.
How does it compare to Cowboy Bebop's other episodes? It's probably one of the best.
How does it compare to Cowboy Bebop as a whole? Well... It doesn't really reach Cowboy Bebop's brilliance, but it gets quite close in some aspects, and even surpasses most of Cowboy Bebop's action sequences.
The plot is very interesting and it's definitely better than the plot in most of Cowboy Bebop's episodes.
The characters are the same old characters from Cowboy Bebop - albeit not as fleshed out as in Cowboy Bebop - but with 2 new, nice additional characters and a really good antagonist.
Music is like Cowboy Bebop's, but more upbeat.
All in all, it's a strong package overall.
My only complaint about the movie is that it isn't deep enough; it has it's moments, but it really does feel like watching an episode of Cowboy Bebop instead of something... bigger.

Pros:
+ Engaging story
+ Same old cast
+ Great music

Cons:
- Doesn't stand on its own perfectly

Narrative: 8/10
Characters: 8/10
Score: 8/10

Final Rating: 8/10
- Great -
For those who are looking for more Cowboy Bebop, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - Knocking on Heaven's Door is definitely worth to watch, but it's also a decent movie on it's own.

Do I recommend it?:
Yes, especially to the fans of the anime.

Cowboy Bebop was a really great show that has cult status among fans. It is in the space western genre, set in the year 2071 and follows a cast of bounty hunters that travel around our settled solar system on the ship Bebop to find new targets. Each of those are unique characters, have their backstories (and baggage) and work very well. There is Spike Spiegel who has abandoned his past but it still hunts and follows him. There is Faye Valentine who was put in cryogenic sleep for 54 years and awakened with no memories in a new strange society. Jet Black is a former cop who quit after being disillusioned by the police. There is the child Ed who is a genius, a bit quirky and a little miss sunshine character. Finally there is Ein a (data) dog which is enhanced by experiments and far smarter than a dog should be (No he cant speak). Those work really well together and their relationships, development and interactions are as enjoyable as relatable and immersive. Then there is the world building: After an accident destroyed partly the moon Earth is mostly abandoned (not uninhabitable!) and the solar system was settled. Humanity has not changed despite being technological advancement. The same problems as today exists like crime, corruption, injustice and poverty to name a few. A very interesting setting and together with the characters, style and ideas won over many fans and got cult status. The movie starts with a terrorist attack on Mars were an explosion dispersed a new pathogen that kills 300 people. This made the Mars government panicking and they are willing to pay a record bounty of 300 million woolong for capturing the culprit. This gets the attention of our characters and each one follows a different line of clues. I stop here with the set up of the story to avoid spoilers. What looks like a standard story has more depth to it and many reveals that change the story. I really like the story but say it took a bit before I sung its praise. There are better episodes of the show but this delivers very well. For the characters I say the main cast delivers as expected. I really liked them and they are so well flashed out in the show. However I am not sure if they work equally well for someone who has not seen the show. For the new characters we have Vincent Volaju. He is awesome and an interesting character (study). Someone described him that he is like an immortal that just wants to die and is looking for someone who can stop him. I think that is a remarkable description. Then we have Elektra Ovilo who is also on the track of the culprit. Sadly I would spoil to much if I go into details and say she works fine. Special praise for the brave squad of pilots ;-). All characters work well and are enjoyable. Visually the movie looks better than the show and did not change the style. So it is an automatic win for me. Acoustically both the movie and TV show were composed by Yoko Kanno. She made a remarkable score and is one of the persons in the genre who deserves far more praise and recognition. She made many great tracks and it is a mixture of jazz, western, lyrical and opera (maybe even more). Without her contribution the show would be weaker as she enhances the scenes. Overall this was a good movie and I enjoyed it as fan. Maybe weaker for non fans but you should see at least some glimpses how good the show was. I am hoping the best fore the real movie adaptation but think they will slay the source material. Expand
