It was compared to " Seven" when it was released and been underrated for years.however it is a great example for suspense thrillers as it stays away from some cliches like jump out of seat scenes and plots like many so-called thrillers didIt was compared to " Seven" when it was released and been underrated for years.however it is a great example for suspense thrillers as it stays away from some cliches like jump out of seat scenes and plots like many so-called thrillers did in the 90s .Copycat also shines with its subplot, score and characters .

The best thing about this film is the soundtrack. This is truly the most haunting thing I have ever heard. I think it is Christopher Youngs best work to date. The script is intelligent, the cast is great. If you liked Seven, I think you will like this, it is more traditional than Seven, but it has that same feeling that you just can't shake off. Rent it, buy it (on DVD there is a really good audio commentary by the director). And if you like soundtracks, I'll guarantee you, that this will go into your collection.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An early version of the script had a vastly different finale. Peter Foley would capture Helen and hold her in the university where he reveals that he was a disgruntled former student of hers. This final scene would take place in an auditorium where Foley would give a lecture to Helen (complete with a slide projector) therefore reciprocating the opening sequence. This ending was meant to give more personal motives for Peter to specifically target Helen. Although this climax was scrapped there is still a trace of this abandoned subplot. In the beginning of the film Helen needs some young volunteers for her lecture to stand up for the audience to see. Peter Foley appears among the crowd, hinting that he could possibly be a former student of the lecturer.… Expand

Copycat is a medium quality thriller. In addition to the excellent acting game Sigourney Weaver. William McNamara, Harry Connick Jr, Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter star in this thriller mystery type film that basically see's one killer behind bars and another out there copying serial killers of the past. Sigourney Weaver plays someWilliam McNamara, Harry Connick Jr, Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter star in this thriller mystery type film that basically see's one killer behind bars and another out there copying serial killers of the past. Sigourney Weaver plays some agoraphobic Doctor named Helen Hudson who is targeted by the killer as well as other innocents who lose their life but Helen Hudson strangely enough lives to tell the tale because she's saved by a few bullets from Holly Hunter's gun at the end that kill the copycat killer. I'd say it's an average or below average film and to me I think William McNamara is a great actor and Holly Hunter but Sigourney Weaver is pretty bad in this film to the point where she's unlikeable and you've no sympathy for her character. She's annoying at times and Harry Connick Jr is amusing at times and others weird and I did like this film but as time worn on you look at other great films such as Alien, The Terminator and even decent thrillers such as Frantic, The Fugitive and other great films and Copycat doesn't even make a dent on them and seems poor in comparison. There's blood in Copycat and violence and a killer who uses bad language and there is even a few shootings but that alone doesn't qualify it to be a decent film. Made in 1995 where there were great films coming out such as Martin Scorsese's Casino you'd think Copycat would of been better but sadly it isn't. Very disappointing.… Expand
