Very inoffensive. Sometimes funny, sometimes unfunny. Couldn't care less about anything that was happening. Mildly entertaining if you've got nothing better to do, but you probably do.

This is a movie where the jokes aren't very funny but there's a lot of them.

One of those "comedy" movies where instead of writing jokes they just do bad accents and score it with "funny" music.

This time, he's the star, playing an investigative journalist who ends up accused of murder. He sets out to find the true culprit, turning him into a sort of real investigator. Hamm is wonderfully amusing with his sly delivery and off-kilter reactions. Writer/director Greg Mottola has penned a witty script and filled the cast with quirky characters (the cooking scene with Annie Mumolo is especially hilarious). The one-liners and extended gags never stop, providing a continuously funny experience that makes it the funniest movie of 2022. NOTE: There's one final quick, subtle audio gag at the end of the credits. Expand

Maybe not the five stars Fletch himself would give, but still fun. Ok, maybe the story is silly, but i really liked the characters and the awkward situations. Jon Hamm is effortlessly good.

Hamm does a fine job in a fast-paced, unfunny comedy that is full of jokes that fail to land while telling a story that isn't all that interesting. A lot of funny bits that are original to this movie and a LOT of callbacks to Chevy Chase's 1985 Fletch! Expand

I enjoyed it, really liked John Hamm's acting and the style of it, maybe the story itself could have been more better or events in it more epic or memorable, but other than that it was nice

This movie is a tad on the slow side.
Personally, I would argue that is because they did not make good use of the runtime, which therefore comes across as bloated.
Put another way, a better editor who understands less is sometimes more could improve this film just by eliminating a lot of boring bits that are neither funny, nor move the plot forward.

Where this film is more successful is in recreating the Fletch character.
Jon Hamm clearly studied carefully for this role and deserves credit for working hard to recreate the original personality of the protagonist.
While I do not find Hamm as naturally funny as Chevy Chase, he carries this film far better than I expected and deserves a lot of credit for that.

Overall, the casting in the was very good.
In between plot twists, you get to see a lot of familiar faces who seem to be really enjoying being part of this project.

I will also give the writers credit for not dumbing down the mystery part of the Fletch franchise.
While not on par with the film noir of yesteryear like the Maltese Falcon, this script does not shy away from the whodunit aspect of the original films.
I myself prefer when a movie makes me pay attention and think a little, so that was a big plus.

If you are a long time fan of the original Fletch movies, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised by how well they resurrected the character.
At the same time, temper your expectations because this is not as humorous as the originals and does drag a bit.

It's the kind of case where you understand that not everything has to be spectacular or memorable, but just functional and fun at the right time when it's needed.

Any new Fletch movie was always going to be problematic. The original films were star vehicles for Chevy Chase. So, as you'd expect he made the character of Fletch goofy and silly.
While the original novels had humor, they were mystery novels first, like most of Gregory Mcdonald's writings.
So a Fletch movie closer to the tone of the original novels would disappoint Chevy Chase fans. A movie attempting to reproduce the style of the original films would disappoint Chevy Chase fans AND fans of the books.
Hilariously, there are some professional critics whose review prove they know nothing of this.
While I read pretty much every one of Mcdonald's books, it has been a very long time.
In the end, I'm really glad they walked the line very well. Some references to the original films, but much closer in tone to the original books.
I'm fairly certain at least one of the most memorable moments is missing.
A few slow moments and I've also dinged a point for a ridiculous woke line near the end.
Otherwise, completely enjoyable and I'm hoping for a sequel.

Plenty of talented people assembled to create this work of sheer mediocrity. But the loose plot and lazy improvised performances make the picture feel ten hours long – in particular, the kitchen sequence with Annie Mumlo stops time. Hamm can’t decide if his Fletch is witty or stupid or both, so the main character seems aimless and unconvincing and stuck – just like the film itself. Expand

Lets just look past that the plot was very stupid and the resolution was not great to it either. Each character was and funny, Hamm did a great job, and I laughed multiple times throughout.
