Although missing originality of African culture, I'm surprised to see how Eddie Murphy and crew have gone far to prove they can do well. So captivating!!!

It's not as good as the first one but it's still a fun family movie to watch. It's nice to see the initial story developing, there are really good moments and we enjoyed it very much.

I waited with anticipation to see this sequel. I for one enjoyed it. While it does not have the charm of the first, it is worth seeing if you want a light comedy, with timeless messages.

What gets them to the States is their quest to find a bastard son. The film starts with rollicking exuberance and a lavish musical celebration. It’s also genuinely funny, esp. when Leslie Jones is on screen. Sadly, when they return to Africa the story toggles from the funnybone to the heart with a love story for the son (Jermaine Fowler). There are plenty of cameos, including Trevor Noah and Colin Jost, who’s less stiff than he was in Tom & Jerry. The comedy highpoint was the barber shop full of Murphy characters. Ruth E. Carter, who did equally exceptional work for Black Panther, has designed wonderful Afro-centric wardrobes (that BIG wedding dress). While there’s lots of comic energy and every actor is having a great time, the indulgence of dramatic interactions drags the movie down. NOTE: Sit thru the credits for outtakes, John Legend’s lovely performance and one final gag at the end. Expand

Miło się oglądało. Eddie i Arsenio nic się nie zmienili. A Lisa nadal piękna. Film nie psuje wspomnień. Czuć klimat lat 80-tych. :)

When I watched this, I didn't even realize that this is a sequel to the movie with the same title in 1988. That means it didn't matter if one haven't watch the first one before seeing this one. Viewing as a stand-alone comedy, I had a great time. The movie was over the top with exaggerated characters. For me, even though the jokes were simple, they worked well and I laughed many times throughout the runtime. As a comedy, that's all it takes to win me over. It might not be funny to some. I loved all the actors, especially Eddie Murphy, who played multiple characters in the movie. Even more, the movie looked very colorful and lively as there were many fun dance performances. The costumes were also great. As for the story, it was very predictable as I knew what was coming. Toward the end, it became cheesy, and dragged out too much. The theme of breaking the old conservative rules and embracing who you are were clear in the movie, but the cheesiness of the movie didn't make this theme feel all that important. Overall, despite the mediocre script, I still had a fun time with the movie, probably due to me being pretty easy with jokes. 7.5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do NOT listen to the haters! If you were a fan of the original, chances are good you will enjoy this movie! I was eagerly awaiting this movie as soon as I first heard about it. The fact that it went straight to Amazon Prime was a bonus (I'm a Prime member).

It did not disappoint! Yes people will say it's nothing like the original...true enough...but really how many sequels are better than the original huh? This movie has the right amount of nostalgia blended with entertaining new material and new characters. Yes the plot isn't super deep...but I found it quite hilarious. As in the 1st movie...there were also several spectacular African-themed dance numbers. While this movie might be better titled "Coming to Africa"...it doesn't have quite the name recognition. The movie only spends like 10 mins in America, the rest being in Zamunda. Jaffe Joffer us dead and Akeem is now king. He has 3 lovely daughters. Unfortunately the law of the land says a male must inherit the throne. In comes the bastard son from Queens that he's never heard of before. And this is where most of the fun begins. Some haters have complained it's got too much "wokeness". Nonsense! I'm a centrist myself and did not find the "too much wokeness" some haters are whining about. Perhaps they can't stand the idea that...SPOILER.........................................after all the trouble of finding his bastard son in America and bringing him to Africa, King Akeem eventually decides to change the centuries-old law of succession and makes his eldest daughter the official heir. And ain't nothing wrong with that.

What has happened to this world and why are people so harsh these days. This movie is soft hearted, great energy, fun acting and you can see everyone had such a good time making it. I personaly loved it and great follow up to the 1st movie. If your a person with no sence of the word "fun" in your life then those are the low reviews. If your someone who watched the first movie and are a fan of all these fantasic actors then this is a great movie!!! Really fun story that takes you away from the reality we are all living in these days. Don't take it seriously and enjoy everyone! Expand

Surprised they took so long to make a follow up of the original, because they didn't lose their touch and were back in the zone. It was non stop fun. Didn't take themselves too seriously and that adds to the fun. The entire cast was great, even the extras. It was filmed in the same lighthearted tone as the original. The look and feel had a familiar 80s vibe to it together with the barber shop cameos. Wonderful remake! Took me straight back in time to the good old days! Expand

Was a sequel needed? Not particularly, but that doesn't mean it can't succeed in its own right.

It recycles a familiar royal succession story trope, not that there can really be many variations, but does it in a fresh heart warming way. It stays true to the original heart and brings back all of the original cast in very effective way.

Some of the special effects are good, the de-aging however is the best in any movie or TV show I've seen.

It's also a nice throw back to the common films stereotypes of the 80's, allowing people of different races to smile and join in on the fun of African culture without any guilt or fear of a poorly timed joke.

Honestly I had my fair amount of fun here (few really good jokes), great costumes, okay music, below mediocre CGI and average and predictable story. My rating would've been lower if we hadn't have comedy drought right now but still would give this one a watch.

Cheers

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not even close to the 1st but decently entertaining specially The old characters returning were joy to watch, the vibe and feel of 1st one with sweet simple story were missing but the story here was decent although the execution and the new characters were not that engaging to watch, The music was pure gold the tribal song and remixes were good, the wierd humor and sexist jokes were good,The wakanda joke was good and the new gen things were nice, The starting with akeem to be king as his father was about to be dead his funeral while he's alive it was absurdly funny specially The cameo of morgan freeman and his speech it was fun, The bastards intro and the call back to 1st one how he's born mystery the bar females and the thing with hooker it was outright WTH then the back to america for searching bastard his intro and whole slapstick fun family with absurd humor and while at america the barbers meeting "same as then" Even though everything was changed it was awesome, Then the prince and family's stay at castle and on the other hand the wesley's snippes wierdly fun general's character his offer for zamunda and the still dog barking sister that scene was just "Out of control funny" and then the family bonding and the lion's game it was amazing and the whole pen!s cut scene was Nuts, Then prince back in queens with his queen, while the kindgom is rescued by the original hier the daughter of akeem it was good and the ending where The lisa's father tips to akeem about kingdom and family then the wedding with everyone happy and the party with old characters the sexy chocolate band and the barbers, sexist chruch man, seemi and oha it was joyful end. Overall felt like just another remake as they said in one line about hollywood's superhero stuff and remakes while being the same although it was fun and entertainingly decent movie! Expand

I rather enjoyed all the old characters that showed up again.

I'm not a fan of movies where Eddie plays a random wacky character. Here he's the main character without any shenanigans, it's the side characters that are wacky and they leave the screen long before they become annoying.

Wesley Snipes is absolutely amazing.
