My family loved this fun, fresh take on a classic. I saw the trailer and knew it wasn't a Disney or a Rogers and Hammerstein version so I went into the movie without preconceived notions as to what it would be. I saw the trailer and knew it wasn't a Disney or a Rogers and Hammerstein version so I went into the movie without preconceived notions as to what it would be. It had a talented cast including Camila Cabello in her acting debut, Idina Menzel, and Billy Porter so the vocals were amazing. There was just enough of the classic fairy tale whimsy to make it magical, but with modern values, humor, and music. Great song choices across the decades for the whole family to enjoy, and amazing choreography, costumes, and sets. The characters have more depth, and I enjoyed getting to know more of their motivations especially those of Idina's Stepmother role. I would have loved to have a little more character development, but was still very happy to see more than the cliche one dimensional characters of the classic fairy tale. I was proud that the story had a better message for children about following their dreams, and particularly for girls that they can have it all: both a career, following their passions, and also having the prospect of someone to love. Finally, my daughter has a strong, empowered but kind and compassionate princess to look up to. This is now one of my favorite adaptations of the story and we will be watching it many more times in the future for the pure joy and fun of it.… Expand

Don't know why people are disliking this movie so much but I would definitely say it's the best version of Cinderella. Earlier Cinderella's life definitely ends by marrying a guy but in this movie the self establishment of woman will inspire greatly to a lot of teen girls.Besides this is kind of a remake of that older version of Cinderella so it's expected that the most of the main storyline will remain same. Don't know why people are expecting a whole different thing from this movie. But I really liked it. Loved those songs of Camila and Idina. And personally I really believe that some of the fairytales need to be modified in order to fit on the modern generation or it will be left only as an option for children not for grown ups anymore. This movie has done the job very efficiently. Loved that they casted a man for a godmother. And I surprised to see the stepmother and stepdaughters as they are not that much mean and jealous of no reason like the original version, rather they are trying to understand each other's situations, specifically it's shown why and what situation made them loose their dream and made heartless. I really really longed for this kind of modifications, containing no violence or hate speech of no reason. And finally to wrap up, everyone can watch this movie irrespective of their age and also those who still nurtures the child in them.… Expand

Camila work really hard in her first character as an actress, she embrace Ella so well and made we fall in love for her and Billy and FAB G was incredible and when he sings with Ella and gets his magical powers, it's just phenomenal as always, Billy it's such a good actor. Idina plays a stepmother that it's totally out of this world in this new era of Cinderella she's not longer bad and they explained why she was mean with Cinderella which totally bring me a vibe of Maleficent and Cruella, explaining why they're like that and i would love to see maybe a next movie?! i don't know, i just know that i loved this one.… Expand

I would say this movie can be (in a way) compared to the Iron Sky or Kung Fury. It is stupid. It is ridiculously stupid. But stupid in a good way. This is the fun kind of stupid. Story was not interesting to me since I saw different versions of it including Selena Gomez one...

I watched this movie with my kids. Had no expectations. I was blown away by how amazing this movie is and how much we all enjoyed it. Stellar performances by the entire cast. Especially impressed with Cinderella herself, played by CamilaI watched this movie with my kids. Had no expectations. I was blown away by how amazing this movie is and how much we all enjoyed it. Stellar performances by the entire cast. Especially impressed with Cinderella herself, played by Camila Cabello. Given this is her debut role, she more than held her own with this amazing cast. She's brilliantly funny, oozes charisma and is incredibly emotive. Her onscreen chemistry with Prince Robert played by Nicholas Galitzine makes the romance palpable. Idina Menzel brought a multi-dimension to her step-mother character that was much needed. In fact, one of the things I appreciate the most about this film, aside from the great music & performances, are the character development and the much-needed updated values that director Kay brought to this version of this old classic. I wish I saw this version when I was a little girl. Pursuing your dreams and finding love should not be mutually exclusive.
Baffled by some of the critics reviews I saw about this movie. Did they watch the same film or did they even watch it?? Can't imagine anyone seeing it and finding fault with it. It's sad that a movie that promotes self-love, pursuing your dreams, being kind and inclusive offends some people. It seems few things are more threatening to puritanical & hyper traditional folks than a young woman pursuing her dreams. Do yourself a favor and watch this gem of a movie, then judge for yourself! I hope you enjoy it!… Expand
