The Fairy Godmother is on spot and fresh (albeit a little caricatured) but the rest of the movie isn't.
Music borrowed from everywere (and not in a good way...it's not Moulin Rouge!), irritating Characters, dated choreography, oversaturated colors like a cartoon, even costumes aren't great.
You're in the mood for a different take on a notorious story?
Try something else...like Mirror Mirror or Romeo+Juliet or Into the woods or Tromeo and Juliet or play The Wolf Among Us videogame… Expand

Cindrella's hair looked the same when she turned into a princess - MESSY. The storyline was all over the place and nothing seemed to flow. Waste of time watching this crazy movie. I read the other user reviews and don't understand the 10 ratings. I think those raters are friends and family of Camila to bring the score up. Most were written the same day.… Expand

First of all, I was not expecting everyone to do as great a job as they did. And secondly, wow!!! The TALENT of everyone involved with this, the vocals were so beautiful, the lyricism, even more so. The TALENT of everyone involved with this, the vocals were so beautiful, the lyricism, even more so. I was entranced from start to finish. The dazzling costumes were so eye-catching, as well. I didn't know what to expect from Camila, seeing as this is her debut acting role (and as lead, nonetheless) but I am so pleasantly surprised by how good her acting chops are. Also, I know some people think we have enough Cinderellas and true as it might be, not all remakes are going to be bad, contrary to popular belief. I also know that, most people are probably trashing it for little things, whatever those might be, but remember a remake is always different in it's own right and that what makes it better, most of time..
This definitely is different... I'd also like to note the comedic lines, honestly, it was genuinely funny and it wasn't too much or cringey and there wasn't forced comedy moments (like the ones you see in shows where they add laughing effects to make something that originally wouldn't have been funny, funny), because it did the talking for itself. This is, in my opinion, definitely a fun movie to see and definitely worth the watch. Lastly, the diversity, I'm living for it! This was, *chef's kiss* great. All in all, I remain, impressed. And am without going to re-watch this..… Expand

I have never seen a dumber movie. The acting is so unbelievably bad, the storyline makes absolutely no sense and is also unbelievable bad, no good plot, an absolute catastrophe. And wtf is this cast? Disney need not worry about Amazon's adaptation of Cinderella. This film is a total train wreck. None of the songs are memorable. Might have helped if they hired actors who could actually sing. Enjoyed the movie, it exceeded my expectations and little kids love it so much. Who says that it's predictable is a big lier, it's based on a 2000 yrs story tale, so duh, it could be predictable, but it isn't. I would say this movie can be (in a way) compared to the Iron Sky or Kung Fury. It is stupid. It is ridiculously stupid. But stupid in a good way. This is the fun kind of stupid. I watched this movie with my kids. Had no expectations. I was blown away by how amazing this movie is and how much we all enjoyed it. Stellar performances by the entire cast. Especially impressed with Cinderella herself, played by CamilaI watched this movie with my kids. Had no expectations. I was blown away by how amazing this movie is and how much we all enjoyed it. Stellar performances by the entire cast. Especially impressed with Cinderella herself, played by Camila Cabello. Given this is her debut role, she more than held her own with this amazing cast. She's brilliantly funny, oozes charisma and is incredibly emotive. Her onscreen chemistry with Prince Robert played by Nicholas Galitzine makes the romance palpable. Idina Menzel brought a multi-dimension to her step-mother character that was much needed. In fact, one of the things I appreciate the most about this film, aside from the great music & performances, are the character development and the much-needed updated values that director Kay brought to this version of this old classic. I wish I saw this version when I was a little girl. Pursuing your dreams and finding love should not be mutually exclusive.
Baffled by some of the critics reviews I saw about this movie. Did they watch the same film or did they even watch it?? Can't imagine anyone seeing it and finding fault with it. It's sad that a movie that promotes self-love, pursuing your dreams, being kind and inclusive offends some people. It seems few things are more threatening to puritanical & hyper traditional folks than a young woman pursuing her dreams. Do yourself a favor and watch this gem of a movie, then judge for yourself! Pure joy & entertainment with brilliant performances by the entire cast and a soundtrack that I can listen to all day. Camila Cabello's debut in this movie blew me away. She's a natural comedienne full of charisma but equally delivers emotional depth. More than holds her own with this all-stars cast. The thing I appreciate most about this film are the uplifting values it's built on: inclusivity, diversity, kindness, self-love and confidence to follow your dreams. This movie breaks the barriers of the old "norms" without ever losing it's fun & joyful energy. The fact that some critics take issue with these positive themes in the movie because it's not conforming to their traditional expectations is exactly why I think this movie is so necessary and relevant. I commend the film for trying to be more modern but it also serves as a massive detriment to the film. Instead of taking an issue like climate change seriously, they use it as a joke to ruin the tension of a dramatic moment. There is nothing wrong with making a film talk about modern issues but you have to feel genuine about it instead of forcing it in. There are some modern changes I like. Billy Porter’s race and gender swapped Fairy Godmother was a great addition but he’s only in the movie for less than 5 minutes. Pierce Brosnan was good and I liked that the film joked about his inability to sing but that was about all I liked. The rest of the film was not good or an absolute train wreck. Like the tone. The tone is all over the place and is often ruined by a misplaced joke and it works as a huge detriment to the characters. Most of the performances are not great. Camila Cabello is a good singer so why did they auto tune her to hell. It’s so bad that at points, it is often extremely difficult to understand a word she is saying. James Corden is absolutely awful. It seems that almost every film he is in, the quality of it seems to suffer and it’s worse here. All of the characters are often insufferable to watch and that’s because the script is awful. The dialogue feels forced and weak and the sequence of events is lackluster and stupid. It doesn’t help that this film is an absolute snooze fest for 90% of the runtime. I found it hard to pay attention to. Besides maybe one song, every other song is a modern rendition and they all suck. I tell you that I genuinely laughed when they did Seven Nation Army. All of the technical aspects are unimpressive for an iconic story like this. The cinematography is boring, the lighting is bland but the sets and costumes do look good however. I would highly recommend passing on this and watch the original Disney animated film instead.… Expand

Don't know why people are expecting a whole different thing from this movie. But I really liked it. Loved those songs of Camila and Idina. And personally I really believe that some of the fairytales need to be modified in order to fit on the modern generation or it will be left only as an option for children not for grown ups anymore. This movie has done the job very efficiently. Loved that they casted a man for a godmother. And I surprised to see the stepmother and stepdaughters as they are not that much mean and jealous of no reason like the original version, rather they are trying to understand each other's situations, specifically it's shown why and what situation made them loose their dream and made heartless. I really really longed for this kind of modifications, containing no violence or hate speech of no reason. And finally to wrap up, everyone can watch this movie irrespective of their age and also those who still nurtures the child in them.… Expand

Could not finish, and going half way through was somehow already an accomplishement.

The actors were "over acting " and the main character Cinderella was something not Cinderella for sure. Most people who leave harsh comments flat out review Camila and how they hate her in different ways. My family, especially the children, loved this film and I love how this movie instills self-love and I am here for it, I am here for love

This movie is full of charm, amazing soundtrack and fun performance. Prolly the best Cinderella adaptation/new gen so far. Lots of laughs. Loved the changes/ new versions of the "evil" stepmon and fairy godmother.

Cinderella is film from which one I know everything what was trying to be .
Because of that I lowered my standards before watching it but still I didnt like this film at all.

Camilla did fine acting job but nothing great .
Rest of cast was annoying except some rear cases where some where funny at some points.
Story was not interesting to me since I saw different versions of it including Selena Gomez one...
So this film was just not right pick to me.… Expand

Camila makes an extremely charming debut in a joyful and modern take on the classic. Great songs thoughtfully placed and energetically performed. Worth watching even though Corden is in it. And to be honest, even he is pretty funny here.

From the opening number (a Janet Jackson classic) it’s obvious that this version will be rooted in the 21st century. This updated approach also includes a reworking to focus on women’s empowerment. Pop singer Camila Cabello plays the title role and she’s fine. Performances that stand out include Idina Menzel as the stepmother and Nicholas Galitzine as the prince. But the scene featuring Billy Porter as the non-binary Fabulous Godmother is the show’s highlight…truly fabulous! The script is peppered with clever moments and funny lines and the overall comic tone keeps it upbeat. The choreography adds another element of modern fun. My only complaint is that there could have been 2 or 3 fewer songs, especially the earnest ones written for the musical. Still, this is catchy, upbeat and delightfully entertaining new take for audiences young and old.… Expand
