As a result, he's court-ordered to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. This is the first solo directing effort from Bobby Farrelly, who with his brother created such classics as There's Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. As a result, you'd expect some comedy. Alas, no. While there's def an upbeat energy and the team is full of fun personalities, the actual funny moments never materialize. Harrelson's performance doesn't do much to help, although some of the team members have quirky moments. The narrative makes statements about the humanity and heart inside all of us all without stooping to easy gags. An underdog team succeeding is a Hollywood staple, but this time is all about being heartwarming, abandoning most comic potential. Expand

It means well, but the inconsistent pacing and obvious humor are too much to overcome. Consentino innocent.

A feel-good movie that doesn't offer any different routes to get somewhere that matters.
Everything is built on a predictable foundation that barely keeps the plot moving forward. Woody Harrelson may be a drunken conspiracy theorist in real life - shame on him - but he has the charisma to sell a role that demands nothing from him and is nothing special, but would obviously be the main reason for audiences to see this film. Champions is a likable comedy with a good cast that does a decent job but provides very little substance outside of its inclusiveness.

"The case of the Farrelly brothers is emblematic: they went from being the most foul-mouthed director couple in Hollywood to emblem [as debuting solo directors] of an adult and respectable cinema", "standard bearers of a highly controlled neo mainstream" (Rocco Moccagatta), "which if on the one hand is appreciated for its pleasant professionalism, on the other leaves us dumbfounded for his didactic acquiescence" (Roberto Manassero). "The youngest of the two brothers treats disability with respect but also with paternalism" (Alessio Baronci). The normalization process of their bizarre, eccentric, whimsical, disorienting, thunderous humor continues and, with Harrelson as the protagonist, the comparison between this remake and "Kingpin" [1996] is merciless, nor is the contribution of 1991 EMF's "Unbelievable" relevant. 5.8 on RT, 5.1/10 here on Metacritic, it's pleasing the whining audience.

A little funnier than I expected, and it has enough warmth and sweetness .

"Champions" can't be saved by Woody Harrelson's constant squandering and is nothing but a bunch of sex-related puns.
