There is alot to love in this movie - the voice acting is tremendous and they definately matched the cars well with the actors. The story itself is heartwarming and tugs at your heartstrings in certain parts (like when no one shows up to their "Welcome to Radiator Springs I-40" party) Honestly, I don't see what else could have been done to make this movie better. Sure, its not a Finding Nemo or Toy Story II, but it is still - BY FAR - the best computer animated movie which has come out this year. Go see it, you will not be dissapointed. Expand

A compelling story combined with the most georgeous CG renders in any Pixar movie to date (or any movie to date?) make Cars the perfect movie for the whole family. A compelling story combined with the most georgeous CG renders in any Pixar movie to date (or any movie to date?) make Cars the perfect movie for the whole family. There is an ideal blend of humor, drama and passion throughout the movie. Certainly a lot of heart, as the arogant Lightning McQueen learns and evolves as a character. His transformation is well received It's not as young-feeling as Toy Story, mind you. There are some themes here that are paced slower and clearly geared (no pun intended) towards an older audience. No matter, the kids love it, too and typically warm up to the tow truck Mater and Italian sportscar fanatic Luigi. Don't miss the special scenes at the end of the movie during the credits. They're absolutely hillarious! Expand

Pixar has indeed done it again. "Cars" has more wit, charm, and most important of all, HEART, than all of the movies released this summer combined. To all those who say that the movie's central premise is formulaic and tired: I say it Pixar has indeed done it again. "Cars" has more wit, charm, and most important of all, HEART, than all of the movies released this summer combined. To all those who say that the movie's central premise is formulaic and tired: I say it is something that is badly needed to be said, over and over, especially in our frentic society of fast food and celebrity/sports worship. It's quite ironic given that the only things that are "tired" and "formulaic" in Hollywood today are just about every other movie released recently that has been shamelessly sequeled or repackaged, soley to make a buck. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this movie so much. It has a nice, simple but effective story, with interesting characters, beautiful animation, good music and race cars. Broom Broom!

Okay, so the movie starts with this new rookie car called Lightning McQueen, who looks like a red hybrid between a ford GT and a lotus car, racing against stock cars, some sort of Buick and a Plymouth super-bird in a NASCAR race. ( yeah this is a little silly )Lightning does all kinds of crazy things in the race, jumping over other cars and being all bouncy and flashy, which the fans all love. Though he is a little full of himself and is a brat to his pit crew. The big race ends in a 3-way tie with Lightning, the Buick (chick Hicks) and Super-bird (veteran racer, the King). A decider race is to be held in a weeks time and so Lightning, after reluctantly speaking for his sponsors, leaves to get to the race early. It's rather clear at this point that Lightning is a bit socially inept, bratty and is only interested in winning but he's still likable. After traveling along the road for a bit, Lightning ends up dumped in the middle of the interstate, panics, drives around like a maniac and ends up wrecking the main road of a small, pretty much abandoned town, called Radiator Springs. The towns residents make him fix the road and during all this Lightning acts like a brat and is rather mouthy, particularly towards the town doctor, who doesn't like him at all. But he gets better and makes friends with the residents and falls in love too. Doc still doesn't like him though, as Lightning found out about his secret racing past, and so Doc calls the press to take McQueen away, which upsets everyone else.

After being found and getting to his race, Lightning is not really with it, doing kinda poorly until he finds that most of the towns residents have come to be his pit crew (with Doc as the crew chief) and help him win. Lightning does awesome but just as he's about to win, Chick Hicks smacks around the King and causes him to crash. Lightning goes back to push him across the finish line, giving up his win to do something nice and showing a growth in character. This of course goes down well with everyone and even though he did not win, Lightning is considered the race champion. He then decides to go live in Radiator Springs with his new found family.

Its all very well put together and feels so heartwarming in many of the scenes. Paul Newman, who voiced Doc Hudson, did a terrific job of bring this character to life. I also liked Sally the Porsche, the towns sheriff and many others. The film has humour here for kids as well as adults and will amuse most people I think. Its a nice kid-friendly family film that I think is one of Pixars best works and deserves a good rating.

The storytelling, while rather simple, is deep enough for a kids' movie, and has a good moral. The pacing of the movie is so good, instead of rushing the progression of the characters, they made so every character was well established before they get rolling. And I mentioned it earlier, but Pixar really out did themselves with this one. The animation is absolutely stellar, definitely better then anything else they had done before and in my opinion, the only movie to surpass it's animation was toy story 3, and maybe Cars 3. Cars 2 looks much, much worse however, some parts of it looking like a 3D animated tv show. Even if you're not a kid I would definitely say this is worth a watch, even if you don't end up liking it, you will get to see some of the best 3d animation out there. Expand

I had gone with my school to watch this. I was already very excited since I got some stickers with something (I don't exactly remember) so I wanted to know more about this film. It was really visually appealing to see. Although I didn't know English back then so I was only interested in the races and seeing Lightning McQueen and Mater do weird things (and also Lightning McQueen building the road was also pretty interesting to me somehow; it still is). Ever since then I had seen this film every single time it came on Disney (there was a time when the Pixar movies were being shown a lot on Sundays).

I like every single thing about the movie - the visual appeal, the story, the characters, the songs, the character development. And it's based on one of my favourite subjects - race cars. Although this is not my bias saying how awesome this movie is. Everything falls in its place perfectly. The story is pretty straightforward, and it is entire driven by Lightning McQueen's character development and the time he spends with the other cars. I'd have wished the other movies of this franchise had also been similar, but at the same time I also think this movie didn't need any sequels.

From my perspective, it was 4 out of 5. Not on par with Toy Story II or The Incredibles, but the attention to detail and the absolute love and care that is obvious in every rendered frame of this film shows through constantly. The story teaches lessons that are missing in too many films directed at children, like cultivating relationships instead of attention and glory, and remembering that life is more about the cruise than the destination. One last thing... Unlike the review mentioned above, I found the humor plentiful and lush, not barren and dry. Expand

Not quite up to the perfect 10 of the Incredibles, and Toy Story II, but definitly the first great movie of the summer and 10 X better than any of the other animated movies of the last few years. A huge reminder why Pixar is in a class of itself.

Beyond the phenomenal graphics and the amazing storytelling ability, the movie excels in two unexpected ways: * the cameos are hilarious... more than any other Pixar movie, and very appropriate to the subject matter. You'll get them if you're a fan of NASCAR, NBC (sports) or NPR. * they had the most amazing opportunity to sell out... you're doing a NASCAR-styled film... so you could have literally tens of thousands of product placement opportunities on in to the merchandising opportunities... but they don't. They're all in Walt Disney and Pixar's latest film 'Cars'. The story revolves around a rookie race car learning that life isn't about where you're going, but how you get there. Now I'll admit, last fall when I first heard about this movie I completely wrote it off as being utterly preposterous. Why? Simply because the idea of talking cars didn't seem entertaining in the least. It actually wasn't until the day before it's release I said, wow, I think Disney's got something here. (Which only proved to be true after seeing it the next day.) John Lassester, the man who took us into the world of toys in 'Toy Story' and on a search for a young clown fish in 'Finding Nemo' has done it once again. First off, there's Lightning McQueen's (Owen Wilson) funny and irresistibly lovable new best friend, Mater. (Larry the Cable Guy) He adds to 'Cars' what Scrat the squirrel does in the 'Ice Age' films. Now don't get me wrong, many of the other characters featured in the film are plenty likeable, but Mater is the glue that brings it all together. Also in 'Cars' the animation is superb. It doesn't have the same style or look the other Pixar films have. I don't really know how to describe it, but its certainly something. But, as almost all movies, 'Cars' does have a drawback. Its missing something. That special something only Disney and Pixar can add that made 'Toy Story' what it is, a great movie. I'm not sure why, but its just not there. I imagine in the end 'Cars' will just fall short of having the longevity and memorability films like 'Finding Nemo', 'Monsters, Inc.' & 'Toy Story' will. Despite this, 'Cars' is still a winner and manages to be excellent. Not a classic, but excellent. I highly recommend seeing it at least once to give it a test drive. Expand

The Pixar team imagined a sequel to the J.G. Ballard novel "Crash"(the Cronenberg adaptation about car wrecks and sex), in which the porn addicts find a way to impregnate an automobile. There's no hint of religion in "Cars", but there's a clue to be had in the pop culture reference(unusual for Pixar) that Filmore(George Carlin) offers. If this person(he makes metal) is God, "Cars" might be more subversive than you think because this puts the film in Aleister Crowley territory. As for the film text that is obvious, "Cars" is state-of-the-art in terms of getting the viewer involved with the story while displaying its computer wizardry. Radiator Springs is indeed, magical. When I was a child I used to watch theseYou may consider me a weird guy with no taste, but I love Cars 2 a bit more, in spite of the fact that I gave the same ratings for both first and second movies. But Cars is more nostalgic for me. When I was a child I used to watch these movies everyday. I forced my parents to buy DVDs because I scratched another disk. I played racing games on my tab, because I loved cars. And the Cars movie is where it begun.

In contrast to Cars 2, Cars is much more warm and hearty film. Yeah, I have nostalgia for both movies, but Cars looks like something from the warm childhood with a lot of good memories, looks like a typical cartoon for children. It has such a sweet music, various characters, who are very kind and pretty.

The plot is not that unique or great, but it's really interesting to watch how narcissistic and selfish guy becomes a good, kind friend, who thinks about other people (I mean cars). Lightning McQueen is a character that everyone hates in a certain part of the movie and then slowly becomes a character everyone loves. We shouldn't underrate Doc Hudson, absolute legend, who has an interesting, sad and emotional backstory. He is very important character and his importance is a little underrated, this car made very big influence on the formation of McQueen as a person. I really want to see a spin-off movie about Doc Hudson's story (Yeah, a movie, not just Disney+ series). Radiator Springs also has rich and emotional story, it's really sad to watch how this city became an empty place no one knows about.

Graphics is not that great here, but in 2006 it was absolutely awesome, thanks to Pixar. Soundtrack is not that great, but it's emotional and it excellently fits in some moments of the movie, it may give some deep feelings, like sadness or nostalgia.

Cars is a legendary, classic Pixar cartoon, very emotional, touching and interesting. Children all around the world loved, love and will love this movie, also teens and adults enjoyed, enjoy and will enjoy this film. Really recommend to watch if somehow you still haven't watched it.

American "culture" IS riding down-hill, in music, TV broadcasts, and in movies. But the sort of crap I would call American drivel is the stream of cheap, dumb comedies released every week. Theaters are flooded in sequels to Scary Movies, Garfield Movies, Adam Sandler Movies, and computer animated trash like Doogal and Over the Hedge. This movie was better written than all of the above, truly funny and clever. The typical Disney happy endings and abundant morals get somewhat tiresome for a 15 year old like myself, but my Mom enjoyed Cars even more than I did! It may not quite measure up to the Incredibles (which I consider one of my favorite 10 movies), but Pixar has done worse before (A Bug's Life). It defies the trend of recent comedies sucking, and could never be called "American Drivel". Expand
