Poignant and moving, perceptively directed by Nadine Labaki. Most of the acting is excellent. Fascinating film throughout, so touchingly done. It shows how similar we all are, no matter where in the world.

Average, but kind of dull. I didn't find any of the characters too engaging.

Caramel, directed by Nadine Labaki in 2007, is a Lebanese drama film about the lives of five women who regularly meet in a beauty salon in Beirut. The film is an exploration of themes of love, friendship, family and Lebanese society.

Layale (Ghita Houssam), the owner of the salon, is a married woman who secretly loves a married man. Yasmine (Yasmine Al Masri) is a shy young woman who is in love with a man who only sees her as a friend. Rima (Rima Khcheich) is a divorced woman who raises her daughter alone. Jamale (Joumana Mourad) is an elderly and eccentric woman who takes care of her sick sister. And Rose (Kika Markham) is an English woman who left her country to find love in Lebanon.

The women of the salon support each other in their difficult times and share their joys and sorrows. They talk about their dreams, their hopes and their fears. They also confront their own prejudices and fears.

Caramel is a beautifully directed film and performed by Labaki shows great talent in capturing the soul of Beirut and the lives of Lebanese women. The characters are complex and relatable, and the stories they tell are both moving and entertaining The actors perform extremely well I felt connected to each of them and was touched by their stories
