Dialogues and jokes are very dumb and cringe. The entire movie is cringe fest and blatant SJW pandering propaganda trash. Brie larson is clearly not suitable for this role, her character has no emotion and development. And she's very arrogant, spoiled terrible person in real life. This movie performed well in box office only because it was released before Avengers Endgame. This movie was only made to grab cash by using "women strong" message but it failed miserably, because it didn't even have any moments to prove Cpt. Marvel is strong character. Wonder woman did it pretty well, and Marvel should have learned something from DC. Expand

Bad start leads to a much better second half. Basically, I liked the film, but it had some problems at the beginning.

If you don't know the background, it is not easy to understand everything at the beginning, it is a bit confusing staged and written. With the arrival on Planet C-53, however, the film begins to pick up speed.

Brie Larson and Samual L Jackson in particular have great buddy chemistry that really sustains the film. In addition, a pleasant twist that makes the film much more exciting and a secret star in the form of a cat.

Ultimately better than some other Marvel films, but also not as outstanding as most of the good to very good Marvel movies.

Mary Sue hero who can beat anyone’s ass no problem, she does not act like a hero she acts like a super villain and threatens to mortally wound any white man who dares find her attractive. they gender swapped Mar-VELL, now he’s an old bag instead of the OG Superhero Captain Marvel. Monica Rambeau, who was Captain Marvel before carol danvers, is now some little snot nose kid who looks up to her, the only thing keeping this from being worse than the bs the MCU pulls with Iron Spider-Boy Jr. is the character of monica is nowhere near as loved and popular as spider-man. Nick fury loses his eye in the most pathetic loser way and they play it off as a joke. The fight choreography is horrible, who came up with it? A little kid who like to play with action figures? Brie Larson can not act, she stands there lifeless like she is about to get an autopsy, just looking at everyone with the penance stare, I thought this was Captain Marvel not Ghost Rider. The music is so excruciatingly horrible, it melted my ear wax and made me temporarily hard of hearing. The final battle is disappointing, no there is no final battle she just blast the dudes ass. This was so bad, I had to sneak into another theatre and watch another movie just to not feel like I got finessed for those tickets. This is the worst retcon in the history of cinema. Kevin Feige must be fired from Marvel, and then sued for his underwear and his toilet paper, before he burns it to the ground. This is the worst mcu film and it’s not even refutable. If u disagree, you are only proving that you must be arrested and flown out to a deserted island to be dropped off, and live alone with nothing but leaves to wipe your butt hole with because you are a danger to civilization, and can not be trusted Expand

This was the first movie in this franchise that I hate Nick Fury's character.why would they do that to him. Captain Marvels character flat out stunk! Just no character there whatsoever. Alot like pizza from Little Ceasars taste like Cardboard! Skip this because bad acting, destroying Furys character, and because it really doesn't tie into the Avengers universe. She spends most of her time saving other planets other than earth which is great we aren't subjected to her all that much in Avengers movies. Now only if Thanos would have taken her out it would have been better.

As I watched CM in the theater some girls kept clapping every time CM would do something women empowering. The social engineering is strong and straight garbage! I'm getting tired of this kind of crap being jammed into entertainment.

The premise is fun, and it's refreshing to see Nick Fury in an overwhelming situation before he gets into the pilot seat. The conspiracy, without spoiling, is one I think makes for a lot of paranoid fun, as you're always wondering what's around the corner, and who is going to be secretly in on it. Unfortunately, it's seated by a protagonist whose character and performer are flat.

Captain Marvel's action sequences are weightless and flashy. The protagonist has unquantified god power from the beginning, nothing ever comes close to threatening her in any way, and this leads to the third act falling flat once the cat's out of the bag and all that's left is to punch the bad guy.

As a sucker for humans in silly face paint playing old-school aliens, I had a lot of fun with the second act, enough to say I enjoyed the film overall. If you're looking for a fun *action* film, however, you're not going to find it here. It's not bad because it includes a woman (obviously), it's mediocre because that woman has nothing to learn and nothing to overcome. Had they replaced Captain Marvel's role with Black Widow, Hawkeye, or any more grounded hero and kept the same premise (leaning into the Men in Black angle), the threat would have certainly felt more credible. As is, this is a movie you'll struggle to stay off your phone for.

Might even be the strongest Avenger. Captain Marvel well deserves the "super" prefix. Seeing powerful characters perform incredible feats is one of the reason I like watching superhero movies. It's the reason Superman is my favorite superhero. But I digress.

Good chemistry between Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson, who spend a big chunk of the movie together. Both fantastic actors. We also get to see a well done de-aged Samuel L. Jackson because the action takes place in the past. There is a big twist that completely changes the movie. Took me by surprise. Can't wait to see the sequel in 2022.

But it's unfortunate Captain Marvel is yet another movie that has been review-bombed solely for political reasons by angry insecure manchildren because Brie Larson committed wrongthink by being a feminist. Captain Marvel still passed $1 billion at worldwide box office. Lol!

Decided to fill my only gap in the MCU over the quarantine, and what did I get?

Larson's smug snout and constant overacting. Bland inconsequential stereotypical story with one twist that is seen from miles away. Main character is a cardboard cutout with inexplicably way too much power. As per the norm with Marvel bubble gum movies, this lacks any directorial style, the action fails to generate a drop of adrenaline, and the editing is messy. The story of how Fury lost his eye is diminished to some lame joke. Coleson's involvement is minimal.

Law, as usual, performs well, but lacks a proper script, and Jackson is one of the few bright-ish spots in this mess. How did it get a billion?

"Space invasion, big car chase... truth be told, I was ready to hang it up. 'Till I met you today."

One year later - nobody's talking about this, expect for me right now. All that fuss and name calling over an average by the book superhero movie.

One of the blandest and most forgettable movies of last year, which I just remembered to login as watched.

Brie Larson, who has proven in the past to be a talented actress with amazing range, but is unfortunately the weakest link in the movie. I thought her performance was incredibly wooden and the least interesting part of the movie. Her line delivery felt really off and there wasn't anything there for me to care about her character. All backstory with very little depth. It might have just been the poor material she was given to work with.

I'm sorry, but not once did I believe this is the strongest character in the MCU. The issue is that the movie does a terrible job of actually showing us that she is powerful and important. They tell us rather than show us. Like OK, she shoots lasers, flies around and has some magical glow around her. Am I suppose to be impressed?

The story itself is really messy and unfocused. It's trying so hard to be an origin story while also setting up the next installment for future movies, but also having a Bourne element into the mix of connecting pieces to the past.

Also I can't believe they did Lee Pace dirty. Not just once, but twice now!

However, there are some things I liked in the movie that stopped it from being the worst thing ever. I love the tribute to Stan Lee on the Marvel Studios opening intro, which was such a loving touch to his legacy.

The de-aging on Samuel L. Jackson was fantastic and shows us how far technology has come. Although towards the end the effects started to look a bit wonky for some reason. Jackson himself was charismatic and a blast to watch. It was interesting to see a younger and goofy version of Nick Fury before he gets super serious.

I love Goose the Cat, just don't let her anywhere near your eyes.

The Skrulls were enjoyable "villains" and Ben Mendelsohn absolutely shines as one of the Skrulls.

And that's really it for positives.

Overall rating: "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't." - Margaret Thatcher

Yes, I actually took a quote from Thatcher. I honestly should just delete my account right now.

And by controversial, what I mean is it made a bunch of nerdbro jackasses on the internet mad for some reason. I don’t know, some **** about Brie Larson hating white men or something, even though she literally has nothing to do with the writing or production of the movie? I don’t get it. Anyway, how is it? It’s fine! It’s like every single other middle-of-the-road Marvel solo movie ever made. It takes no risks. It’s safe, unchallenging popcorn entertainment. There are one or two things I thought this movie did really well, the de-ageing effects are fantastic, the ‘90s setting was fun and I kinda liked the Star Wars-ish vibe it had at times, but other than that this is just a serviceable, cookie-cutter, nothing-special-about-it superhero movie. How are the characters? They’re fine. The story? It’s fine. The action? It’s fine. The effects? They’re fine. The acting? It’s fine. The music? It’s fine. The comedy? It’s fine. The connections with the other movies? They’re fine. It’s fine. It’s not as good as Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s not as bad as Ant-Man and The Wasp. It’s okay. There were some kinda bad moments, the writing and social commentary is extremely obvious and on-the-nose and there is an absolutely baffling music choice in one of the final battles that I feel is trying to be like an Edgar Wright movie or GotG but it just sticks out like a sore thumb, but that’s about it as far as actual issues I have with it. There just isn’t a lot about it that I think is especially good either. I know this movie means a lot to a lot of people and I think that’s great. I don’t really agree, Wonder Woman did it first and did it better, but I’m glad it did so well financially. Hopefully we’ll get bigger and better movies like this out of it. If you haven’t seen it already, check it out if you like Marvel movies, skip it if you’re like me and you don’t really care. Expand

Is it bad? No. Is it good? No. Is it an average, dull, generic, and extremely flawed superhero origin story? Yes!

Pros: The tributes to Stan Lee are beautiful and very touching, the movie wasn’t as much of a misandrist wokefest as I thought it was going to be, some of the action scenes are fun to watch, and Goose is funny and adorable. (I just really love cats. Sue me!)

Cons: Nick Fury is a complete joke in this movie, Carol Danvers is an emotionless character with no flaws and no personality, the movie takes place in the 90s but feels completely inauthentic and inconsistent with the time period, the sexism that Carol experiences is unrealistic and over-the-top, the movie retcons the entire MCU just to make its Mary Sue protagonist seem more important than she really is, and given the fact that Carol is written as an overpowered and flawless character, I never felt that there was any real conflict.

All in all, the movie was better than I feared it would be (I was expecting it to be complete garbage), but it was just so bland and boring. I don’t want to see a movie about a talking plank of wood; I want to see a movie with character development and stakes. I want to see a movie that takes place in the 90s (my childhood) that doesn’t feel like modern-day America with characters that tell you how “90s” the movie is every two minutes. I want to see a movie where the men aren’t emasculated and the women aren’t perfect saints who have no flaws and can do no wrong. And I want to see a Marvel movie that’s actually consistent with the rest of the MCU, not just shoehorned in for the sake of “Gurl Powar!”

And no, I am not a misogynist for saying all this. (Kind of hard for me to be a misogynist, considering the fact that I’m a woman).

Brie Larson is deadpan in the lead role, which is strange as she keeps getting told "you must control your passion!" all the time. I didn't see much of that going on, plus her character is overpowered from the very start. She's boring for the same reason superman is boring. Best performances are from Samuel Jackson and a CGI cat. I was fun to go back to the 1990's for a little while and the little jokes about loading from a modem, etc, were the best parts. If you want to watch a superhero movie with a strong empowered female lead then Gal Gadot as wonder woman is miles better. Expand

I honestly watched this expecting it to be a seat squirming, slow motion car crash of an experience (but you know, make the effort it's MCU cannon and I should probably watch this before end game).
It was actually very watchable, yes it has about 45 seconds of the equivalent of female gillette advert thrown in twice, which was excessive and unnecessary. But story wise and acting wise it was good (certainly towers over DC's wonder woman), I'd have preferred Brie Larson to have payed the part a bit more starkly authoritarian, to aid the future dynamics of MCU, but I suspect the intention was to make her character more relatable even if this meant deviating from the source material, "shoot first ask question later" nature.
Finally this film is no where near as WOKE as it's detractors would have you believe.

Carol Danvers is casted well and the action is also pretty fun, but also seems a little bit too hectic sometimes. The plot twist isn't surprising at all and the flash backs are also more annoying than informative. I didn't like the humor in this movie at all. The nearly forced jokes made me laugh pretty rarely and also the emotional moment didn't quite always catch me as they should. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Captain marvel was the worst marvel movie that I have ever seen, and I would even go so far as to say that it's the worst movie I've ever seen in my whole life. Absolutely everything about it is terrible. The vfx look like a camel did them blindfolded. The writing is about as lazy and unmotivated as a water balloon. The acting is comparable only to a wet towel. In both of my viewings of this film (if you can even call it that) I have never found a single justifiable component. The hulk is better. The incredible hulk is better. Spiderman far from home is better. The expired jar of peanut butter on my cupboard is better. There are far too many things that are horrendously nauseating to list here. If you watch this everything else that happens in your life will seem amazing compared to to this.

Well, I just plain don't like Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

I was looking forwards to seeing Captain Marvel join the MCU. But Larson just does not pull it off, she has the same presence, energy and charisma as you might find in a pile of soggy carboard.

There are definitely some great moments with Nick Fury (I am not saying I want a Nick Fury solo movie, please, don't make that a thing) and I really enjoyed some of the moments with the Skrull played by Ben Mendelsohn, but on the whole I found the movie to be a bit lackluster. Certainly not the weakest movie in Marvels line-ups (Thor 2 and Captain America 1 have that privilege) but it just generally wasn't on par with what you expect from Marvel after they have had over a decade to perfect the formula.

Brie Larson has as much charisma in this film as a cardboard box that was used to ship the script to her. The supporting cast diid well to try lift the film from the terrible performance of a leading lady that obviously didn't want to do this film, because the target material for this film so obviously doesn't play to the demographic that she wants to do films for, It is obvious Brie Larson had no interest in Marvel Comics and the MCU before this film and it shows in her performance. If you compare this to Wonder Woman, which quite frankly is seriously a much better film in every way, where Gal Gadot embraced the character and source material and made an excellent movie. If Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is the future of the MCU then the future is bleak, mediocre films, plots and wooden performances will ruin a franchise that has been developed over the last decade or so. Brie Larson has made this version of Captain Marvel less likeable than Ebola both on an off the screen. The best thing Marvel and Disney can do to prevent the impending train wreck is a subtle last minute rewrite to the end Avengers Endgame where Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is replaced with actress that actually can act and has a likeable personality. Besides the super powers, all the best goalies in the galaxy and Iron Man are there. I must say that I do not really know what to tell so much movies are alike. I am sad to see that the risk taking is limited, but that the evolution of visual quality is very present. Holograms are a bit like black panther without the metallic and gray aspect. Beside the main character is not so captain but Fury and I must say that this actor plays the game to the end. This film can be positioned second in the Marvel environment. And in the last Thanos will take a power that will make him dance.
