You ask why? The plot scheme is EXTREMELY simple, every single one of the characters is BORING. god i can't stand it

I don't know what's worst about this film.

The fact this came right before the biggest cinematic event in history.
The fact that they hired vehement feminist Brie Larson as the main cast
The fact this movie exists
The fact that the color that most resembles her suit is the color of the average viewer ratings
The fact they wasted such a good origin story for Nick Fury's enigmatic eyepatch on a slapstick simple joke.
The fact this could cover for 0.00004028571 of the US National debt, which is still more than the combined box office earnings of the top 10 grossing movies of 2020.
Or the fact that after all this pile of horse dump, she still lost against mad Titan Thanos all thanks to a tiny little purple rock. Anyways, I'm thankful she saved Tony Stark from space doom, so she gets a 1. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to save him from his destiny so, still a 0.

But speaking of, why didn't Fury just CALL HER DURING THE AVENGERS OR AGE OF ULTRON? IF HE DID, 70% OF ALL MARVEL MOVIES WOULD NOT HAVE EXISTED AND THANOS WOULDN'T HAVE - oh, goddamnit. Nick Fury, why daphoq did you have to wait until your DEATH to CALL HER instead of WHEN LOKI ATTACKED NEW YORK? >:(

Decided to fill my only gap in the MCU over the quarantine, and what did I get?

Larson's smug snout and constant overacting. Bland inconsequential stereotypical story with one twist that is seen from miles away. Main character is a cardboard cutout with inexplicably way too much power. As per the norm with Marvel bubble gum movies, this lacks any directorial style, the action fails to generate a drop of adrenaline, and the editing is messy. The story of how Fury lost his eye is diminished to some lame joke. Coleson's involvement is minimal.

Law, as usual, performs well, but lacks a proper script, and Jackson is one of the few bright-ish spots in this mess. How did it get a billion?

She spends most of her time saving other planets other than earth which is great we aren't subjected to her all that much in Avengers movies. Now only if Thanos would have taken her out it would have been better.

Mary Sue hero who can beat anyone’s ass no problem, she does not act like a hero she acts like a super villain and threatens to mortally wound any white man who dares find her attractive. they gender swapped Mar-VELL, now he’s an old bag instead of the OG Superhero Captain Marvel. Monica Rambeau, who was Captain Marvel before carol danvers, is now some little snot nose kid who looks up to her, the only thing keeping this from being worse than the bs the MCU pulls with Iron Spider-Boy Jr. is the character of monica is nowhere near as loved and popular as spider-man. Nick fury loses his eye in the most pathetic loser way and they play it off as a joke. The fight choreography is horrible, who came up with it? A little kid who like to play with action figures? Brie Larson can not act, she stands there lifeless like she is about to get an autopsy, just looking at everyone with the penance stare, I thought this was Captain Marvel not Ghost Rider. The music is so excruciatingly horrible, it melted my ear wax and made me temporarily hard of hearing. The final battle is disappointing, no there is no final battle she just blast the dudes ass. This was so bad, I had to sneak into another theatre and watch another movie just to not feel like I got finessed for those tickets. This is the worst retcon in the history of cinema. Kevin Feige must be fired from Marvel, and then sued for his underwear and his toilet paper, before he burns it to the ground. This is the worst mcu film and it’s not even refutable. If u disagree, you are only proving that you must be arrested and flown out to a deserted island to be dropped off, and live alone with nothing but leaves to wipe your butt hole with because you are a danger to civilization, and can not be trusted Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only marvel movie in which I actively dislike seeing the title character on screen. Captain Marvel comes off as arrogant and annoying, and although I think most of Brie Larson's bad acting was the studio's fault, she definitely could have done better. The female power arc is ruined when her careless, ignorant arrogance is proven right instead of showing that she had more power than she ever thought she did and showing that she had been being suppressed the whole time. Because of what Jude Law's shallow character was trying to teach her in the beginning, about how self control is important, when she realizes that she has even more power than she thought, the message she learns ends up being "as long as you have enough power, self control doesn't matter at all." She is too reliant on her overpowered abilities instead of her character, her powers and her character are completely separate things. She received them by accident and everyone just got lucky that she was a good person. The humor wasn't very good, seemed like attempted Stark style humor that just didn't work. There was very little emotion in her character at all, she doesn't even hesitate when she has to battle her squad, who are the only people she remembers knowing at that point and her family for her whole remembered life. There's not much to the plot but it's not awful. The action isn't great, I found it kind of boring. A couple things I do like are the special effects, especially with the Kree tech and the Skrulls, and the idea of the Skrull shapeshifters themselves, especially Ben Mendelsohn's Talos. There were some funny parts, specifically the old lady fight on the train and Goose's killing spree, and I did like Carol's relationship with Maria and Monica. Definitely my least favorite Marvel movie, but I'm not going to vow to never watch it again like Rise of Skywalker. Expand

"Aliens need a light-speed engine to run away from a persecution of other aliens that already can travel through space"...WHAT??? It's like "building wings for an hamster to escape from an eagle".
Everything full of disgusting nazi-feminism of the Larson (overrated actress) that can't even change facial expression and show her arrogant superiority against everything not female.
Even the villain can't stand a chance because she's superior, there's no character development, only a nazi-feminist that treat everyone with arrogance without any point.
She gain the powers not understanding something that allow her to evolve as a character...she simply break a chip behind the neck, knowing that the chip put a limit over her powers SINCE THE BEGINNING of the movie...that's a nosense climax.
Nazi-feminism, arrogance, plot without sense, no villains...pathetic

And in the real world that would mean the actress would fight herself and the filmmakers.
So of course this means most of the work was done by my brain and not the filmmakers.
So it only gets a 3.
In Endgame it wasnt possible to run this self-deception about her anymore, because she completely ticked out, as if it was a completely different character all of the sudden... as if she was put into a cage for 3 years and treated horribly by her captors and of course completely invulnerable and more powerful than EVERY super hero combined. Just unbelievably silly. Even She-Ra and He-Man has more weaknesses than her, and more importantly, they were much more human-like, not like a robot trying to indoctrinate people (actually mostly children, which is even worse) with SJW fascism. And after seeing interviews with the actress, it completely destroyed that self deception, when seeing the movie again. Even her coworkers dont seem to like her much.

I would say this movie failed to keep my attention or interest, but seeing as it never gained either in the first place, I don't know quite what I should say.

Wooden acting from the lead actress and a confusing (and at times predictable) plot. I was so bored the whole way through that I checked to see if the movie was over about two dozen times and every single time I did, there as still far too much runtime left.

Possibly the worst superhero movie Marvel has ever made. I didn't care about ANYTHING in this movie. The plot, the characters, the "stakes", none of it had any meaning to me. I have to wonder who this movie was made for in the first place. I'm a casual MCU viewer (wouldn't really count myself as a "fan" yet) and I failed to find anything of value in this movie, so maybe it's for more hardcore fans of the series? Certainly it wasn't for me.

If 1/10 was Game of Thrones Season 8 and 5/10 was Avengers: Age of Ultron (a painfully average movie), I'd give this movie a 3/10.

1. The music...they play I’m just a Girl by Gwen Stefani!!!!! U kidding me? How horrific! Who is directing this? They should be fired. 2. The constant attempt at jokes just which didn’t and doesn’t work
3. Brie’s one dimensional acting and inability to show emotions just ruined this powerful character! That’s also the director she fault, they should see that she can’t deliver on screen and have her fix it. 4. At some point Brie realized she can fly!!! And screams and yells Yay..whoohooo as she going through rocks and punching space shuttles! What we we 5 yrs old?
5. The feminism is just way too forced! Hollywood please stop pushing this down on us. It’s too much, you are ruining movies with it!! Just stop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here is a note for future superhero movies, there is a character arc that is needed to have a successful heroes journey. Superpowered warrior to superpowered amnesiac is not a character arc it is flatline. The adversity here is her amnesia? The Kree, her people? Its a muddled mess with a clear pro immigration agenda not paying tribute to anything in the comics and conflates the original hero (Mar-Vell) with Yon-Rogg (villain) that makes any semblance of a story unrecognizable. If you want flashy things going bang then go to a fireworks show, a movie is supposed to be about story and this has a disjointed mess with an unlikeable star. Its a shame because she was likeable in Community and playing a quirky, nerdy girl seems to be her main talent pool-she should have been squirrel girl not Captain Marvel. Someone thought Marvel movies were about explosions and flashy effects when they were missing the real character flaws, acting ability and charm movies need to be successful Expand

Brie Larson has as much charisma in this film as a cardboard box that was used to ship the script to her. The supporting cast diid well to try lift the film from the terrible performance of a leading lady that obviously didn't want to do this film, because the target material for this film so obviously doesn't play to the demographic that she wants to do films for, It is obvious Brie Larson had no interest in Marvel Comics and the MCU before this film and it shows in her performance. If you compare this to Wonder Woman, which quite frankly is seriously a much better film in every way, where Gal Gadot embraced the character and source material and made an excellent movie. If Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is the future of the MCU then the future is bleak, mediocre films, plots and wooden performances will ruin a franchise that has been developed over the last decade or so. Brie Larson has made this version of Captain Marvel less likeable than Ebola both on an off the screen. The best thing Marvel and Disney can do to prevent the impending train wreck is a subtle last minute rewrite to the end Avengers Endgame where Brie Larson's Captain Marvel is replaced with actress that actually can act and has a likeable personality. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So what makes this movie bad? Well, we can start with the fact that they completely destroyed the original Captain Marvel’s story. Mar-Vell is a he, and he saved Carol’s life with his own blood. Not only did they neuter Mar-Vell and turn him into an old woman, but they took his caring and selfless act and made it a twisted manipulation play by the kree. The kind of feminism at play in this “captain marvel” is not the kind you’d find in a respectable female-driven movie like Black Widow. No, this is the virulent, spiteful, arrogant, man-hating kind that really doesn’t show a woman’s best features at play, but really some of the worst. No serious self-reflection. No respect for her natural limits and what makes a woman a woman. No, it’s the kind of woman that really and actually resents being a woman. The kind of woman that really wants to be a man, and can’t help but relish in being overpowered so she can dish out her perceived slights, insecurity, and general overall inferiority complex on anyone not female in either subtle or explicit ways. And if it’s not her doing it, well then the director’s gonna play deus ex machina and make sure all you get from this movie is “girls rule, boys drool.” Sure, Ms. Marvel eventually becomes the posterwoman for women’s grievances in the comics, and thus she becomes a butchered and battered character over time in order to become the epitome of women’s suffering…but that’s not Captain Marvel’s origin story. Ms. Marvel doesn’t even start out like that. Why not just respect the original story? Why not just show Captain Marvel saving Carol and training her to be Ms. Marvel and then do an amazing spinoff with an amazing leading lady in Ms. Marvel who eventually takes the reigns after the original Captain Marvel’s death? Ridiculous pseudo-feminism, that’s why. Propaganda and screeching at the sky trying to force everyone to agree with you because you’re entitled to be treated more seriously than you deserve or are actually entitled to. TLDR: This movie throws out the tesseract plot thread of phase one and makes Nick Fury look like an idiot pawn that somehow stumbled into a position of power; Continuous cheap shots at men and terrible lessons for women; misplaced 90s hits splattered throughout at a vain attempt to make the movie cooler than it was; disrespectful of the actual initial plot and character development of Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers; and finally, just the overall fact that the movie did not even need to exist. It added NOTHING to the overall plot and left a bad taste in the mouths of any reasonable and tasteful individual that actually cares for things like character/plot development and coherent storytelling. Most has already been said and I agree, it is the worst marvel movie to date because the main character is a Mary Sue. She simply has no hero journey, she is basically invincible, uber powerful and all that is holding her back is toxic masculinity. Once she overcomes this (took her long enough, a whole movie actually) nothing will ever be able to stand in her way again. That is the recipe for a boring movie, a bland character and a lot of hate from the fans.
