Because it's fun for me and I enjoy watching it from the bottom of my heart. Just like the previous phase and the previous work, this one is the best phase 2 movie after Guardians of the Galaxy. .
I said last time that the action sequences and special effects were not very interesting, but here they are great! Especially the elevator sequence. It is unique. I remember the panels of Jack Kirby's comics. Because they are creative.
Exactly the strong points of the last time have come here as well. However, you have to think more about the villain of the movie. The last time was great. Robert Redford's acting is great here as well. But his plan is a bit clichéd. But it was creative and made that sense of Zero to fully understand the hero.
Another problem he had was this: around minute 95 of the movie, there is a sequence where the captain says impressive sentences behind the podium. And that's where the SHIELD agents find out the truth and go to help him. But not thinking that the sound is recorded? So why are they being trained?
However, the movie has different characters like Nick Fury or Black Widow in the movie and gives them an effective role.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Not as good as the first. Still a good movie though. The only thing I don't like is, he's suppose to be Captain America. With all these super powers. So why does he need help all time.

Shaky Cam and Rehashed Action Ruins It

Moviegoers above the age of 13 will recognize most of the action set pieces and plot elements from other films. There's an elevator fight, which we've seen before. Evil cops, evil suits, "big brother" danger, some running from fire and more explosions.

The fundamental problem with these movies is that you never feel like the main characters are in any danger. No matter how much of a beating Captain America takes, he's going to live to make sequels. The same goes for all of the popular cast members. Given the immortality of the good guys, the only question is How they're going to get out of peril. Don't expect anything new here.

The best writing is happening on television, sadly. Film-quality writing is going to HBO and independent networks, and television directors are moving to the big screen.

This one is all washed up. Hail hydra.

It is so good I can actually recommend it outside of fans of superheroThis is not only an awesome superhero movie as it is also a really good political thriller and one of the best examples of the security vs freedom dilemma in movies. It is so good I can actually recommend it outside of fans of superhero films. With a few tweaks it can even be done as normal movie and would still work well. Story: It is set after the events of the first Avengers movie which has changed the world. Steve Rogers while working for S.H.I.E.L.D has partly adapted to the modern times but still struggles with the changes as modern times a hard to grasp. During his daily running training he meets Sam Wilson a former soldier who is now a consultant for traumatized war veterans who wants to help him too. Meanwhile S.H.I.E.L.D is planing something big that can change the world to a better state. However Steve who does not like the project, Natasha (Black Widow) and Nick Fury find some inconsistencies in the project. With this the story starts. It is an impressive story line. Like I already said the security vs freedom element and dilemma alone is praiseworthy. This is not all as the twist are magnificent and the characters and story enhance each other. Like the prequel it has strong characters, a lot of character development and the interactions are enjoyable and entertaining. Also it has impacts the follow up movies will continue. It is my favorite non team movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and best Captain America movie. For clarification: I see Civil War more as Avengers movie or Iron Man and Captain America movie. In total it has an immersive story with real life connection, enjoyable moments and clever writing. Lets continue with the characters. Chris Evans already won me over in the first movie and is the definitive Captain America and Steve Rogers. He is a paragon and role model but also a human who struggles and has doubts and insecurities. This makes him relatable as we can see us in him and what we wish we could be at the same time. Then we have Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff. This was the closest she got to a solo movie. She has a lot of screen time and delivers an awesome performance. Of cause we have the titular Winter Soldier where I cant spoil the actor. He fully delivers and you can feel all his emotions and impact. If you have seen the later movies or are familiar with the comics this will not be a surprise but remember some have not seen them or read the comics. With Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson we got a really good addition to the cast. He is and will be a staple. Again Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury rocks all his scenes and is a badass. Robert Redfort as Alexander Pierce surprised me. I did not think that he will be in a superhero movie. An awesome performance and truly enjoyable. The rest of the cast also deliveries and we got a really remarkable performance by genre standards. Presentation: Again all MCU movies have great special effects. This movie makes no differences and those are never doubted. The immersion is excellent. Then there are the well choreographed fights. Everything is a step up and works amazing. The elevator scene alone is a highlight. The soundtrack is again really good and enhances the atmosphere. I think I should also praise the Russo brothers for this great movie. Luckily this was no luck as all other movies since then were awesome too. Special praise for Captain America speech. Overall this became my favorite and I re-watched it a lot. It hits all the right spots and makes it a classic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Winter Soldier is a treat to watch. The movie has fantastic cast performances from both the lead and supporting actors and some of the best action sequences we’ve seen in the MCU. The chemistry between Evans and Johansson is terrific and injects a lot of humor into a film with an otherwise very serious and mysterious nature. Winter Soldier does a great job of balancing emotions, character arcs and furthering along the MCU storyline through moments that may not seem too important upon a first viewing. Anthony Mackie is a welcome addition to the movie as Sam Wilson and he also has nice chemistry with Evans, setting him up well for future appearances as the character. The best thing about this movie is how it turns into a political thriller with a twist that has massive ramifications for the future of the MCU. The twist is well written into the story and is sure to keep viewers engaged, interested and invested in the characters and the franchise. Winter Soldier is also an uncommon instance where the sequel does better than its predecessor, in this case much better. There are some instances where scene continuity is questionable, but those instances take little away from the film. Winter Soldier to this day remains one of the best films in the MCU and set a bar for sequels that is difficult to live up to. Expand

I really like Captain America's simplicity. He does not shoot out lasers from his hands like Iron Man, he does not stick on walls like Spider-Man, he does not have absolute accuracy like Hawkeye, he does not have psychic powers like Doctor Strange and he isn't a Superman clone like Captain Marvel (although he's also supposed to be the poster boy of America who fought a billionaire). He's just a very strong man. His only weapon is a shield. Not even a sword, just a shield. It's a way of saying that his arms are no less than a sword. He doesn't fight long range. That's how much he trusts his skills.

His costume is also very simple. It does not have any cape or coat. And unlike the comics, the MCU costume doesn't even have wings. They are just drawn on his helmet. And in this movie his costume is made even more sleek. I didn't like the stripes part from his costume. It looks too soft. It's like if he's stabbed over there he would die instantly. So this costume over here made that problem finish, plus it looks a lot more futuristic. I really wished Captain America only wore this costume.

Another thing that shows Captain America's simplicity is the introduction to Falcon. Since The Avengers had already established that all the superheroes are now good friends of each other, this was the movie which could have shown their first partnership since the big team up movie (this was later done by Ant-Man instead for Falcon). But instead of calling them, Steve trusts a new friend, someone he made friends with while he was out on a jog, something similar to what the people used to do back in the mid 20th century. He also calls Black Widow for the action (ugh!), and together they find Hydra.

In the end Captain America fights with the Winter Soldier, but instead of giving an actual fight, he tries pursuing him into giving up, something we won't expect a hero of such calibre to do. The fight scenes in this movie are pretty good, but what should I tell you? I mean it's a movie with Captain America, Black Widow AND Falcon. So there are over a dozen jump cuts every second during the fight scenes. This is the reason why I hate Natasha so much. She fights with so many scene cuts and never takes a single hit. She is the reason why I removed one star from my rating.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the best movie that came from phase 2 in my opinion. It completely outshadows its prequel and sets the correct tone for the additional characters in the future movies without causing too much disruption. It leaves many memorable scenes and has a very good story. I wasn't expecting to be disappointed from a Captain America movie because I like him for his simplicity, but I wasn't expecting to say it's gonna be one of the best MCU movies either. I'd definitely want to give it a rewatch if I get a Disney+ Hotstar subscription.

I return seven years later to find yet another Metacritic reivew removed because it was not flattering enough...

Plot holes, character assassination (Cap and Bucky), laughable script elements (Fury's downtown attempted assassination), a metric tonne of convienence, culminating in the mass murder of people because the 'heroes' want to remove weapon platforms from anyone's control. So this is the laziest MCU script where it is all style over substance. Watch it again, and when the action is going a little too fast use pause and skip back and re-watch some of the uninetentional cringe within many scenes. The only good point is Black Widow's character is well developed in this movie. Even Fury is depicted as an incompetent spy for most of the movie. Massive plot hole: The AI. Just think about how many Hydra would have made if it had not been invented, like the lightsaber, for this movie only. So much for the MC "Universe".

ItI am not a comic book expert, but there is something I can guarantee: this film deserves our full attention. If "Captain America: First Avenger" turned out to be pleasant and full of quality, this film proved to be a worthy continuation. It will not be correct to say that I was surprised: Marvel has provided us with excellent productions, and it is difficult, therefore, to keep expectations low. However, in the end, I was satisfied.

The plot goes back to Steve Rogers' past to reveal the existence of a rival to his height: the Winter Soldier, a super soldier, like Captain America, whose origins and past are closely related to Rogers. I don't know if this story is faithful to what is told in the comic books, but I also feel that, for me, it doesn't matter. The plot is developing well, with space for action and the fight scenes are good and seem real.

Chris Evans returns to the role of Captain America, and he is skilled, heroic and energetic. Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford also do an excellent job, at the level of the best they have done so far in their long careers. Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie seem to have received characters tailored to them, especially Johansson. Sebastian Stan is good, but he didn't get my attention much. Emily VanCamp is good, but her character is not very relevant and is not very interesting.

But where this film really excelled was in the quality of production values, and the most technical aspects. Cinematography, for example, is sharp, elegant, with excellent filmmaking and an absolute command of color, movement, and shadows, which make the film visually extraordinary. Add to that the grandeur of the visual effects, the latest generation CGI and, of course, the action and fighting scenes, and the result is overwhelming. The sets and costumes also deserve a note of great praise: I especially liked the sets at the Avengers headquarters, a futuristic and elegant complex that seems to have been taken from an urban planning project in an Asian city. The aircraft also look magnificent and impress. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is quite good, it fits perfectly in the film, but I confess that it was not in my ear and that I did not find it particularly memorable.

Entertaining!

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' makes for an enjoyable flick. Chris Evans does great work as the lead character, while Scarlett Johansson gives her most fun to watch performance in the MCU up until this point; it would've been great if she had such a role pre-'The Avengers', so she wouldn't have felt so out of place to me in that.

Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford are notable in their respective roles, as is Sebastian Stan - even if, to be honest, his character's connection with the lead didn't quite hit as hard as the film attempts - at least for me. I didn't really believe how his character came about and how Barnes acts throughout, Stan does well though. Samuel L. Jackson is also good.

Everything else is exactly what you'd expect from a film of this size. Great effects, entertaining action and a satisfying story. Very good, all in all.

Mas nada que atrapalhe o resultado do filme, recomendo demais, a Marvel fez o trabalho de casa.

Scarlet Johanson and Anthony Mackie also deliver as good side characters who make for good development in this film. The action sequences are also pretty cool and truly gets us to like the characters even more. The film is at its best however with its plot, especially with its twist and turns along with the struggle between the Winter Soldier and Cap. Overall, this is a well made film with good characters, plot, and development. By Far the best MCU movie today. Expand

This is probably my favorite of the Captain America movies. The actors are all at their best which is what we come to expect from the MCU. The writing is also top notch. But what really set this movie apart is its story. It's talks about the debate between freedom vs security with great touch realism, while blending it with characters that could never exist in our world and the film does seamlessly that it doesn't feel campy or fake. In conclusion if you are looking for comic book film with added realism than this is the film for you. Expand

Russo Brothers replaces the throne after appointing Chris Evans as their unbeatable knight.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Russo Brothers takes this franchise to a whole new level. And luckily- as Kevin Feige reported- and surprisingly this stage is politically correct and blow horns the society with an evidently essential message. Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors, have managed to blend in all the genres i.e. from humor to drama and from politics to action, but the way they paint sci-fi is inspiring, not for the highly rich detailing but how thought provoking it is. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the writers, as mentioned, fuels on the elements of the film and not the antics. No matter how MCU textbook formulaic the film is, the antics are distraction and what I love above all, is that the Russo Brothers too categorizes it as one big hokum.

Either fast forwarding the jibber-jabber or installing humor in it, they butter up the medicinal part of the script. Chris Evans suits up for the third time and yet this feels like a birth. Probably, for the fact that Russo Brothers are themselves the fan of this righteous man. And they are well aware of the fact that he is probably the most easiest character to connect and communicate with, from his references- yes, they are outdated, yet familiar- to his action sequences that are more mano-y-mano than you'd usually get.

The key to glorifying these films was to craft it into an espionage thriller and the result is as its banner claims to be "marvelous". Robert Redford, as their trump card delivers with pretty much straight forward attitude all the way through his track. The antagonist Sebastian Stan does make you clench your jaw with a loud yelling-like background score where Anthony Mackie gets overshadowed and Scarlett Johansson stays far away to beat her own drums after introducing the nickname The Winter Soldier for him.

The cinematography looked good aside from the shaky-cam and too many quick edits during some of the fight scenes. The story is presented as a mystery and is compelling enough that the long run time doesn't seem too long. Some of the twists are a bit predictable, but the movie just manages to fit a lot into its run time and doesn't have some of the dragging pacing issues like The Avengers did. There are plot holes if you think too hard about it, but in general it's just an entertaining movie. I didn't even really like the first Captain America movie much but I liked this one a lot. I dig. I'm not sure how re-watchable this movie would be since most of its plot hinges on suspense, mystery, intrigue, surprises, etc. but it was a fun trip the first time around. Expand

May Stan Lee rest in peace and may this copy paste film be assaulted with a glue gun.

The first Captain America was a commercial for The Avengers. This film at least progresses the plot in some ways through some exposition and adding a new character to the universe, but it's mostly just the same drivel once again. The film starts by just feeling like cut material from a previous Marvel film. It feels like these people have no idea how to start a movie well. They just get straight to the talking and boredom. They do go on a ship to fight but for some reason Captain America can't take out this one guy even though he can hold a helicopter still in the third Captain America movie. I think it took the film like 40 minutes for me to start getting invested in it. We get these couple scenes of Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson going in public while cleverly "hiding" from people looking for them. It was pretty fun.

Unfortunately that's where it all comes down to. This movie is just "pretty fun". You watch them fight and talk the exact same way they did in the last film(s). You get a couple set pieces here and there and they're cool but also very samey to the last ones. It's fine for what it is but I'm getting so bored of it. Marvel also expects you to have watched like half a season of the show "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." for you to be up to date with the plot, and I'm not gonna f*cking watch that show. Seriously. There is a scene early in the film that gives you information on Captain America's character and Peggy Carter, Cap's loved one from the first film. So if you haven't seen the first film, that scene is a nice way to give you a small dose of backstory, but after that it's just straight into the complicated plot of S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA. And to be honest it's just kind of ehhh. I'm really not invested in it at all. And what makes it even worse is the fact that Captain America is still a boring character. Chris Evans does what he can but there's not a lot to do with a character this lame.

At the same time it's easy to rant a little bit about these films but also I feel like I've nothing to say really. Especially with these Captain America films. They're just BORING. It just feels like the whole point is to introduce a new character for the next Avengers film and save the most interesting story bits and consequences for that too. Just same s*it, different day.

I don’t hate their movies, but most of them are average entertainment at best. But, like with the first Iron Man, it is possibly for them to put out a really good movie. And Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in my opinion, is Marvel’s masterpiece. This film is AWESOME! The acting, directing, and writing are all done to perfection. This film is very reminiscent of a 70’s Spy thriller. Conspiracies, Espinage, all the fun stuff. There is also emotional weight to the film as well between Cap and the Winter Soldier. There’s also a heartbreaking scene in the first 15-20 minutes of film (so it’s not a spoiler) between Cap and an older, dying, Dementia/Alzheimer’s ridden Peggy Carter. This is a woman who was very likeable and charismatic in the first Cap movie, and whose relationship with Cap had a lot of chemistry, so to see her physically/mentally fading away was really gut-wrenching. However, this movie is remembered for one primary reason: the action. Holy **** the action is INCREDIBLE! It’s very reminiscent of the Bourne films, particularly Ultimatum. While shaky, it’s not distracting and the Russo brothers clearly know what they’re doing. Who knew the Community guys had it in them? Bottom line, SEE THIS MOVIE! It’s worth your time. Expand

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of my personal favorites in the MCU. Bucky Barns (Sebastian Stan) is just straight up badass. The movie excels in storytelling and has a really good plot: a spy-centric thriller in a superhero movie? YES! The reveal that Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is The Winter Soldier is just amazing and creates a really good conflict for Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) to deal with. The CGI was sometimes a bit dodgy but not bad at all. Action scenes were very well choreographed and some actually had depth to them instead of just being an action scene. The plot point where Hydra has been operating as a parasite within S.H.I.E.L.D. was also executed very well and had real weight to it: It's going to change the upcoming movie a lot. As I said: It's one of my personal favorites in the MCU and it will surely satisfy other moviegoers.
