This movie was flawless! The characters were great, the story is okay, the action was the best! The Winter Soldier is a great movie and you should see it soon. I saw it in the theaters but it was a looooong time since I watched it.

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' is, without a doubt, my favorite MCU movie since 'Iron Man' (2008), and I even rank this slightly above 'The Avengers' (2012).

Chris Evans returns as the super soldier still trying to adapt to modern life. We see in the beginning that he meets up with a former soldier named Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and they seem to really hit it off. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) also returns in the movie helping out the Captain on his missions as they try and rescue S.H.I.E.L.D. agents from terrorists in a very well crafted fight scene that takes place on a boat.

The Captain learns that Black Widow has been storing some mysterious data and confronts Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) about it, they even have a conversation about trust, and who is more trust-worthy.

We also meet Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford), who is a member of the World Security Council and is very good friends with Fury.

It seems that things get out of hand when Fury ends up in a car chase incident that leads him directly to the mysterious "Winter Soldier". The captain tries to track down this mysterious man with a metal arm, but it seems that he is so powerful and so quick, that he can even catch his shield. Nobody seems to know about this character, he has been around for decades it almost seems. The captain even goes as far as to say that "he's a ghost story".

There are many intense moments throughout this entire film, this is a grounded political thriller, which is unlike Marvel, usually, you would expect some CGI spectacle with a crowd running away from flying air-crafts or aliens invading...but this movie, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, relies mainly on practical stunt work, some perfectly timed and perfectly choreographed fight scenes, and many, many moments of characters doing some questionable things, but it turns out they were doing it for good reason.

It's amazing as to how the tone shifted, in 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011), that was more of a retro, colorful, almost cliched war film...but it was very good. Here, you have a solid, edge-of-your-seat political thriller. Chris Evans distances himself away from that Johnny Storm role in the "Fantastic Four" franchise he used to be a part of, now, he fully blends in as the self-righteous, hard-working soldier.

Both Evans and Johansson also have terrific chemistry, the way that the modern day Black Widow occasionally pokes fun at the 95 year old super soldier, and the way that they don't seem to trust each other at first, but must fight together to stop their enemies is all executed perfectly. The Russo brothers, clearly knew what they were doing.

Forget about the villain silliness of 'Iron Man 3' (2013), or even the CGI heavy 'Thor: The Dark World' (2013) (which I still liked)...Marvel has made, what could possibly be what 'The Dark Knight' (2008) was for the Batman character.

Solid storytelling, thrilling fight scenes, great action, a memorable villain...Marvel has made a perfect summer movie!

A 70s style political thriller is not something you'd expect from the MCU, especially not one that works. But insane action, a great original soundtrack and a developed plot with some serious themes makes it all possible (as does a bloody excellent performance from Chris Evans.) The Russo brothers craft the characters and the villain really well, but unusually the action is what has you most gripped here. It's so gritty, it'll have you on the edge of your seat
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Does the heavy plot and action take away some of the 'Marvel soul' that make these movies human?
VERDICT: One of the MCU's best without a doubt. The grittiest comic book film in a long time.

All the characters are very well written, the dialogue, humor, and plot are all great. This is a true action thriller movie. Very similar to a spy film. There is a lot of really awesome and memorable action sequences, twists and turns, and fast moving pacing. Sure there is some weird action movie moments and a few cheesy things but they don't detract much from the adrenaline fueled experience that is this film. Very very good superhero movie, much better that the first one, great plot and very "political".
Is very close to "Avengers" on action and fun. Good acting and great effects makes it the best of Phase 2 Marvel films.

It develops the characters, expand the mythology, provides an abundance of visually spectacular action, and references the zeitgeist of our time without being overly polemic or allegorical. It's a thriller with a lot of twists and turns, and the stakes, while high in any comic book movie, feel more meaningful than in any of the other Marvel films. Despite all that, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and mixes in some insider references and comic book gags successfully.

Highlights include an authentic (to a point) engagement of the Washington, DC scenery, the new character (Falcon) engaging Cap based on shared military service, some smart moments for Black Widow, and the legitimate creepiness of the tactfully used titular Winter Soldier. This is the best acting I've seen from the extant Marvel characters (Cap, Widow, Fury), but the additions of Falcon and the Robert Redford character are also immediately credible. The direction is smooth, and the visuals impressive.

The few lowlights include moments where they cheated the DC locales and a few bits where the comic book logic cause eyes to roll. Some will be disappointed at the ending which, while not a cliffhanger, does promise another movie. To me though, this movie's story was complete, and I don't mind waiting for the next one.

To me, this is the best comic book movie since The Dark Knight; including the (overrated) Avengers. Not quite a cultural icon or a piece of high art, but an entertaining, intelligent, and well-produced film that augurs good things for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He's absolutely terrible in this film - mailed it in. I'm sure some casting director thought, "Oh my God! What a get!", but the man is past his prime - at least in speaking parts. His last really good film was Sneakers, and that was great. Back to this film. Redford's poor performance notwithstanding, I quite enjoyed it. Scarlett J. has come a hell of a long way and is now more than just eye candy - she's an action hero with range. Anthony Mackie is also HUGEly likable and terrific in his role. Emily Van Camp is underutilized. Finally, I great enjoyed the interplay between Cap'n America and the Winter Soldier. It's essentially the anti-Spiderman hero-nemesis relationship. See the movie to figure out what that means. Expand

It's both an action packed superhero movie and a well-paced and tension filled political thriller. I can't give enough praise to the excellent Captain America vs. Winter Soldier fights. The best moments in the film are when the two of them are on-screen together in my opinion.

It's definitely something different than what you would expect from a Marvel film. It feels more real than the others. Like the vents and the hero on display here are something that could actually happen. The tone is also more serious and a little darker than other Marvel movies, yet it still feels like it's apart of that universe. I just love all of the little hints and references hidden throughout to other heroes or more obscure villains. For instance the inclusion of Batroc the Leaper tickled my inner comic book nerd. Be sure to stick through the credits until the very end.

"The Winter Soldier" is another excellent Marvel film that not only expands upon the first movie, but the universe as a whole. I can't wait to see where they take things from here and I highly recommend the movie. It's one of the best the MCU has seen so far.

Cons: a few scenes drag on a tad bit to make it feel a little longer than it should.

Overall this was an excellent entry into the MCU and once again solidified Cap, to me at least, as the one with the best individual outings. I highly recommend seeing Winter Soldier.

Starting the film off with the "on your left" (if you've seen it then you know) scene reminds of us the great one liners and humor that we enjoy and can always expect from these films. It knows how and when not to take itself too serious. That said, it is far from a campy comedy like we've witnessed in poorly executed movies like the Fantastic 4. No, this one is a darker and much grittier film. A political thriller where no one can be trusted, wherever you turn, someone is trying to get you and big brother is always watching. The film is so well written and directed that you forget you're watching a super hero film and start to think it's a Bourne movie, which is a compliment. It just proves that Captain America has the ability to stand alone in the franchise, as Iron Man has done in his outings. It's packed with fine storytelling and Characters that are very well developed and come into their own as the film progresses. The screen time each of the heroes gets here is well balanced and never feels like too much or too little. Especially with a cast like this one. Redford brings the gravitas that he known for and Samuel L. Jackson finally shows us why he is the General. Filled with enough martial arts, humor, one of the best car chases I've seen, and the occasional CGI spectacle, This one is NOT to be missed! Expand

While I thought it had more action and "badassery" it felt like it was a bit void of the developmental elements that made the first film strong. I also thought there was a bit too much humor early on. The Falcon character is where the lack of development hurt the most as he felt forced on us. It felt like he existed only to make certain scenes and plot points possible. To me, that's lazy writing. Either develop him more and add a bit more time to the film or leave him out entirely and find different ways to make things happen. I also thought Scar Jo's character still lacked much development. She had more screen time than in any of the previous movies but I think her and Cobie Smulder's character, agent Hill, continue to be the most underutilized characters in the series. Nonetheless, the action and special effects were amazing and the acting was good enough. Expand

Think Captain America meets The Bourne Identity and you'll understand my great surprise of how wonderfully different this Marvel movie is and how much it pulls you into the plot.

El Capitan America esta de regreso y esta segunda parte esta mejor estructurada y elaborada que la primera, una trama interesante, unos villanos muy bien hechos, es la pelicula de marvel mas madura de todos, cerca al climax del caballero de la noche.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was greeted today with a treat of a movie that couldn't come at a better time. 2014 has started off as one of the worst years in a long time. Just nothing but crappy blockbusters that weren't interesting all. Some were even flawed pieces of crap that wasted two hours of my live. This movie comes along and changes the game for this year. Clearly the best movie of the year so far. The movie was riddled with superhero cliches that got quite embarrassing after a while, but that's the reason why I go and see these movies. The quite smart Marvel movie kept me entertained throughout with the usual Marvel action and Marvel jokes. Though again the CAWS had a lot of differences like SHIELD conspiracies, a this spy vs spy game, and genocide. It was a much darker version of what the Marvel movie shells out every years and this was quite rewarding. Most Marvel movies haven't shown people actually dying, but we just assumed they died off screen. This one however gives us a glimpse of people being killed.

Every great superhero movie has to have a great villain. Without a great acting villain (and ones that don't turn out to be actors) the superhero will get a boring response from it. If the villain isn't powerful and interesting then why bother. This brought us a dark and mysterious villain that was really rewarding. The only problem I have with the villain is when the ending roles around. We see Cap get a report on his friend Bucky (the winter solider if you haven't seen the movie) and then they say they're going after him. This makes me worry about Cap 3 because after you stretch out a villain...I get quite bored. That's what happened in Thor 2. He's a great actor, he's funny, and a great villain. Loki however gets boring after awhile. Though the end scene roles around gets me excited like crazy. We see quicksilver and the scarlet witch (which I looked online for. She has amazing powers). I'm immediately jumping up and joy because they both look sick as hell. They look dark, mysterious, and just overall badass. We also she the leader of Hydro which might be in the next Cap movie. This gets me excited again and a little hope for the next one. Overall a great Marvel movie, which I hoped for. 8.8/10

BUT CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER,can stand on proudly on it's own ,just like the first iron man could, the dialogue is terrfic and i loved the interaction between Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers,Scarlett Johanson's character has a bigger role and much better portrayal than in any previous films, the winter soldier is extremely badass and brutal at times, like kicking a guy into a jet engine or throwing cap's own shield at him after he caught it ,which is impossible.Another aspect that stands out is how much heart it has ,how it focuses on trust and relationships .Samuel L. Jackson back again as Nick Fury provides a meaningful change to captain america that the world he once knew has changed and he has to learn where he fits in now.Anthony Mackie is funny as an actor and a character too he plays Sam Wilson in the movie who goes by the name of Falcon, for his ability to fly ,it's also worth mentioning that he has some of the best action scenes in the movie.

And boy are the action scenes freakin awesome,hand-to-hand combat is really good almost on the raid movies level,it has some very realistic and grounded ation ,as well as the usual CGI action ,but even that is more satisfying than ever before. It's strange how marvel manages to find the directors ,that never shot action before ,but when they do they make it seem it's not their first rodeo.Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have said that they have been inspired by the movies like HEAT and several other spy films of the 70s and they have done a fantastic job at it.

CAPTAIN AMERICA THE WINTER SOLDIER,has everything a action movie, superhero movie or even a simple movie fan wants.Terrific script ,smart and well-thought out dialogue ,great characters and personalities, authentic and BALLS-TO-THE-WALL action that you just can't help but scream about. This is how a superhero movie should be not some rushed out ones like IRON MAN 3 or THOR:THE DARK WORLD,every superhero movie should take example of this one right here.

Along with some secondary characters we've seen before, providing an immense depth in the understanding of their actions and how they will affect future stories to come. Sam Jackson has a stronger presence than ever before, validating Nick Fury as a main staple in the MCU among other key characters. Captain America is stronger, faster, and a more refined soldier than ever before, equipped with better fighting skills and a more equipped understanding of modern technology. Evans plays the earnestness of Captain America's good and bad morality with convincing finesse in an age of grey that he has yet to find a comfortable balance. Johansson progresses the allure of the cunning and multifaceted Black Widow, while bringing a splendid and lively balance to Rogers' straight and narrow.
In the midst of such a clever script, 'The Winter Soldier' introduces a band of new characters, all of which play an important role, creating and establishing a more layered and conceivably real MCU. Frank Grillo brings the swelling bundle of muscle known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Brock Rumlow to life. Emily VanCamp surprises with her portrayal of Agent 13, whom Should have had more screen time with Cap than just two quick scenes. Robert Redford plays Alexander Pierce, a superior ranking Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., friend of Nick Fury, and representative of the World Security Council. Pierce is a wonderful look into the higher ranks at S.H.I.E.L.D., contributing new insights as to how the organization is run outside of Fury, Agent Coulson, and Agent Maria Hill. Anthony Mackie is Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, an ex-military special-ops paratrooper and a welcomed addition recruited by Rogers to help fight the good fight. Mackie fits comfortably among the cast of veteran actors and should play nicely with the other Avengers.
Re-designed for combat and strength, The Winter Soldier's brings upon a great intimidation and fear when it comes to any action scene. Sebastian Stan does an incredible job sustaining the character and not letting himself down throughout the scene. The only thing that is left unsaid is how he managed to obtain such power. The connection between Rogers and The Winter Soldier is dealt with true care and excels the story of Captain America from the first film brilliantly. (Staying for the credits will give you a good lead on to Captain America 3.)
The Winter Soldier is an incredible sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo behind Thor: The Dark World, the Narnia Trilogy, and The First Avenger, have done such a great job shaping Captain America's story, that this movie could be a one hit wonder without the explanation of any prior movies. There are many exciting twists and turns in this well-constructed, political action-thriller, but nothing comes as more of a shock than how important the story is at defining the direction of the MCU. What occurs in The Winter Soldier will inherently influence Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – which could definitely make the TV series a lot more interesting and desirable to those who have followed the story line.
Even though, The Winter Soldier is the darkest story we've come to encounter, the attention to detail Creates an immense build, and raising many deep-seated questions about government and soldiers of war while also taking Rogers on an emotional journey. It also has the best action choreography among all of the MCU movies thus far. Whedon's NYC battle in The Avengers is beautifully shot and developed, but cannot compare to the well composed set pieces found in The Winter Soldier, each leading up to the bigger whole. The Russo brothers come from a background of directing television comedies such as Arrested Development and Community, and it's extraordinary how well they handle a big budget action blockbuster from cinematography, to pacing. They do seems to some what portray their own style of comedy with fun references and a cameo other than Stan Lee, functioning properly within the confines of the tone and story. Henry Jackman (Captain Phillips; Wreck-It Ralph; X-Men: First Class) also composes an adrenaline pumping score that sets the necessary mood every time.
The biggest fault or misleading conclusion found in The Winter Soldier is that it does not address the whereabouts of other heroes or where we are in terms of the time line of the other movies. Why can't Captain America call on Tony Stark to help him out or even Hawkeye who is a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. himself? This is a recurring problem we have seen throughout Phase 2 of the MCU in Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. Marvel Studios should quickly address this problem if they want us to continue to believe all of these characters live in the same universe together. You cannot exclude these characters once you have opened Pandora's Box. Marvel Studios has created another master piece with yet another gripping and suspenseful adaptation for fans to enjoy for years to come. Captain America: The Winter Soldier succeeds on all aspects to what a great movie should contain. It is the perfect set up for films to come and Marvel surely does not play all of their cards, which is great for future films. There is little to argue against its merits and should be described as one of the greatest superhero movies of all time.

Personally, I'm getting ready for Civil War next month by watching The Winter Soldier, and if the next Captain American movie is as good as this one, there's nothing to worry about. In The Winter Soldier, Steve Rodgers is trying to adjust to the modern world until a conspiracy involving SHIELD comes to light, but Cap also has to team up with Black Widow to battle another threat: The Winter Soldier. To me, Captain America has always been the most interesting Avenger because of how he was forced to leave behind his old life and friends, especially his old lover Peggy Carter, and adjust to life in the 21st century. It allows him to be more than just a roided-up superhero with a cool shield, and his struggle with readjustment is explored well in this movie. He also has to deal with a myriad of other significant issues like SHIELD and the Winter Soldier. The political conspiracy plot in particular adds a lot of suspense and twists to the story to make it consistently thrilling while the Winter Soldier provides a lot of great action sequences. His character is mysterious throughout the film, and he's definitely one of the better Marvel movie villains. Captain America: The Winter Soldier should certainly please even the most casual comic book movie viewer with its intense action, great plot and witty writing. I think I might need to binge watch all the MCU movies before Infinity War comes out next year. Expand

In fact, besides the original Iron Man and the Avengers, I don't really care too much for it. That includes Captain America: The First Avenger, a movie that felt a little too safe and convenient at times. However...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an excellent thriller...

One that finally finds the proper ground for Captain America to exist without having him around just to set up the Avengers. Chris Evans finally feels right as Capt, and the movie is truly an action packed roller coaster right of enjoyment.

What's bad about the movie? Scarlett Johansen...Once again, just like in the Avengers, she just doesn't fit into this super hero universe. She fails to deliver every humorist lines she is given, to the point is just painful to hear. This would not be such a big problem if she wasn't always there! The movie should be called, Captain America & Black Widow: The Winter Soldier....

For Captain America 3, drop the Black Widow character. She slows things down and often just spoils moments. Nevertheless, I truly did enjoy The Winter Soldier!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier represents the first film from Marvel Studios since The Avengers to capture the true superhero spirit: plenty of derring-do, action, adventure, and an ending that doesn't fall apart. A sequel to 2011'sCaptain America: The Winter Soldier represents the first film from Marvel Studios since The Avengers to capture the true superhero spirit: plenty of derring-do, action, adventure, and an ending that doesn't fall apart. A sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, this film is unlikely to convert a non-Captain America lover into a fanatic but it's assembled with sufficient skill that those who enjoy this sort of motion picture will have a good time. Also, unlike some of the other Avengers-interrelated movies, this one doesn't feel like a glorified prequel or an unnecessary adjunct. It tells its own story and, unlike with Thor 2 and Iron Man 3, we don't feel the absence of the rest of the team.

That's partially because The Winter Soldier in many ways functions as a "mini Avengers." In addition to Captain America (Chris Evans), the narrative incorporates Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon/Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). Also on hand is Samuel L. Jackson's irrepressible Nick Fury, who has more to do here than in any of his appearances outside The Avengers. Robert Redford, who reportedly took this job for his grandchildren, provides a smooth, suave bad guy in the person of Secretary Alexander Pierce.

The first two-thirds of The Winter Soldier almost feel more like a Cold War-era espionage thriller than a superhero movie. The movie concludes with the expected special effects-laden battles and beat-the-clock action but those scenes are composed more coherently than related sequences in similar movies. And, although The Winter Soldier is available in 3-D, it's perfectly capable of being enjoyed in the less expensive 2-D format.

The movie starts with a mission in which the Captain leads a SHIELD team in boarding a pirated ship. The effort is successful but, when it's revealed that the true purpose of the assault is to protect SHIELD assets, not save lives, a rift develops between the Captain and the head of SHIELD. Later, after Fury is targeted for assassination, the Captain, accompanied by Natasha and Sam, goes on the run to discover who's behind the rot corrupting SHIELD. They learn that not only does it go to the very top but Secretary Pierce has his own superhuman agent, an ex-Soviet assassin codenamed The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), working for him. Having taken down Fury, The Winter Soldier targets Captain America.

The Winter Soldier is effectively paced with enough action to keep things moving but not so much that it overwhelms everything. One of the keys to the film's efficacy is that it takes the time to develop the relationships among the four key members. Human interaction is rarely considered an important element in "standard" superhero movies. The way it's handled in The Winter Soldier shows why it's important. The story doesn't become bogged down focusing on character development but it has enough to elevate the protagonists above the level of fast moving avatars.

The narrative contains its share of unpredictable elements and isn't afraid to shake up the status quo. One wonders what kind of ripple effects this will have on the ABC-TV series about SHIELD. By the end of The Winter Soldier, events seem to be pointing more forcefully toward a Captain America 3 than Avengers 2, although there is an obligatory mid-credits sequence designed to set up next summer's blockbuster sequel.

The most obvious asset possessed by The Winter Soldier is that it isn't plagued by the rampant sameness that characterizes so many superhero movies. The decision to hand the reins to brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, whose resume consists primarily of TV work, is an indication that Marvel wanted to achieve a different aesthetic for The Winter Soldier. The Russos' deftness of touch is most evident in the quieter, character-oriented scenes. The action sequences, although capably handled, unfold without distinction.

The Winter Soldier is a rare high profile movie being released outside the Thanksgiving/Christmas or summer movie seasons. The lack of significant competition should give it a box office boost and it will have run its course before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes along in four weeks. For comic book fans, this one is unlikely to leave the sour aftertaste of Iron Man 3 or Thor 2. It's effective escapist entertainment - something we need from time-to-time.

(Credit watchers take note: There are two "bonus scenes." The first, which is a direct tie-in to Avengers 2, occurs about mid-way. Then there's another short snippet after the full end credits have completed. This one can be missed but it's there if you elect to stay.)

ThereCaptain America: The Winter Soldier is a mixed bag for me having a lot of things I want in a superhero movie yet also some of the things I don’t like. The new setting and tone make the film feel fresh and different from the first film. There is a really good moral dilemma that I’m curious to see how it is tackled in future films. The characters have good dilemmas and people such as Black Widow and Nick Fury get more screen time than previous films and plenty of insight is provided into them. However, excessive action; moral dilemmas that just get dropped at the sideline; and an underused villain (although this is more misleading marketing than anything) prevent the film from being anything spectacular. Fans of the Marvel films should definitely check it out as by now you know what to expect and will probably have fun with the movie. If you aren’t a fan of this genre though then this film will not do much to change your mind although if you are planning on seeing The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), then you probably should as the events this film will likely have major repercussions in that film. Also, there are two credit scenes one midway through the credits and one at the end so once you see the first one don’t do what everyone in my theater did and get up and leave. Expand

Marvel has proven time, and time again, they are a forced to be reckoned with. This sequel solidifies them, as the most prestigious studio making films today. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is more than just a superhero film, it's a harrowing plot line, rich and engaging from start to finish. Inflamed by the testosterone goodness that make us all cringe with excitement. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is just something, we don't see, as moviegoers, very often.

Chris Evans, is back in full action as the Captain, Steve Rogers. Now forced to reconcile in the real word, at the hands of the shield agency, working for Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson). After the events in New York, the Captain has taken a new lead. However, after a run in with a being they call "The Winter Soldier" leaving Fury close to death. Things are not as them seem. Framing the Captain, and the Shield organization. Along the way enlisting in the help of Sam Wilson, a.k.a The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), to defend the justice they once stood for... did my best to describe the film without any spoilers!.

First off, I simply congratulate directors, Antony and Joe Russo for their mesmerizing work on this film. Get this, their previous work was mainly on the NBC comedy "Community" . So their transition to the big screen was fantastic. However, the true magic is within the screenplay written by; Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. The writers not only attribute and acknowledge the whole superhero plot. They also indulge a different style, not privy to the confines of natural superhero films. Adding in a whole subtext on the Shield organization, that makes it all the more entertaining. There is also a brief scene with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) now 98 years old, that was very deep and touching.

I was so happy than we got to delve more into the past of Steve Rogers, and learn about the captain. The subplots were so intentional, and perfect in every sense. Most sequels tend to get sloppy or lazy upon arrival. Hence, "Iron Man 2" or "Spider Man 3". As far as the Marvel cinematic universe goes. Aside from "The Avengers" (which is tough to consider, it could be it's own category) The Winter Soldier is ideally, their best work yet. Thanks to what I refer to as the "dream time". Brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo, have a slick design, and flawless action sequences, some of the best in recent memory. Not to mention a grand finale, that will have you biting your nails, but, on the verge of cheering for more.

Continuing on, the action sequences were very well shot, the hand to hand combat sequences were, timed perfectly, and entertaining as hell. The car chase sequences were perhaps even better. The Russo brothers, know how to conquer some death defying sequences, but also can take your breath away. They tried to make a political espionage thriller, with superheros, and it worked on all cylinders.

There should be no surprise that I was a ginormous fan of the first film "Captain America: The First Avenger" mainly because I felt I could relate with the character, and well I did. I also, am extremely biased in terms that Captain America is my favorite out of the "Avenger" bunch. Just because he is a real honest human being, which is partially why I loved this move so much. Because, the writers made Steve Rogers a human again, more than just a hero with a shield. A man with morals, and understanding. They also gave him so much range to grow, they made this film so much better than it needed to be, and in the process, has set the bar astronomically high for every superhero film to come, so needless to say, you better watch out. Well played Marvel, well played.

Her acting is completely flat and she looks bad. Her orange face, orange hair, hairstyle, and just about everything about the character is so wrong. And frankly her looks isn't what it used to be as the sexiest woman in the world. She looked fine in Iron Man 2 and okay in Avengers but this appearance was just awful. Expand

I am very critical, and there were only three or four times that some truly impossible stuff happened, and I won't be too specific since I don't want to spoil anything. I will say that mostly it was due to some damage that regular humans took that didn't really damage them and could have killed them and at the least broke them. Other than this, I will say that Cap blocks bullets with his shield a lot and it just got ridiculous at one point. Expand

Is it a perfect movie? No, of course not. Does it deserve a 3.8 or a 5? Definitely not. Besides a few tropes and plot devices that raised an eyebrow slightly (but come on, it's a bloody super hero film) it's a very enjoyable show that I would happily watch again.

Marvel are putting together a really consistent movie universe and bringing it together really nicely. I am happy to see it and look forward to their next film.

The political and moral ideals explored here kept me extremely interested throughout. The themes explored here make you think about whose side you really want to take, and while Marvel pushes Captain America's right wing "uncompromised freedom" angle, the Hydra's "freedom in order" was very interesting. I hated the first Captain America movie, but the way this one was put together made this possibly the best super hero movie I've ever seen other than The Dark Knight Rises. The combination of the themes I mentioned above and the excellent action sequences made it a movie that included everything I love about movies. Robert Redford and Samuel L. Jackson deliver the standout performances here and some of their exchanges are just some of the best acting I've ever seen. I was also surprised by Chris Evans who I felt was the weakest link in the first movie. He plays this character, that I'm not exactly fond of, really well. The film also has one of the greatest villains in an action movie. The Winter Soldier is smart. He is an equal to the films protagonist and that's what made him so excellent. See this movie. If you have any interest in film, Marvel, politics, morality, or Captain America, this is a must see film. Expand

For me, the only issues I had was some action scenes where it was just stupid. What I mean is, it is that classic hundred guys shooting at one person and that person never gets hit or just a minor wound. There was many cliche moments. Thankfully the corn ball issues that can happen in super hero movies was kept down, not totally gone, but at okay levels.

The plot was good and the acting was in general good. The did use shaky cam at times during action scenes. If you really hate that, you may want to skip this movie. They do not do it a ton, but enough to annoy people who hate that.

As you would expect, the special effects were solid overall. Not to often did it had a video game feel.

If you are expecting an original story with amazing acting, this is not for you. If you are looking for a popcorn flick for a fun time, this is a good choice. I do think Marvel is going to have to find ways to make the movies a little harder to predict if they do not want people to get burned out on them.

The writing of this film finds a perfect balance between paying homage to the characters' history and adapting to a modern day setting and audience. The action sequences are immensely entertaining since we get to see Cap and Widow show off their abilities without being eclipsed by massive green death on legs or a lightning summoning flying Viking. Falcon is also a welcome addition who I would like to see in the next Avengers.
Performance wise I can't fault it either. There's not a lot to say here since we've seen most of the cast in the previous films so we know they can handle their roles already so the only one that needs to be called to is Anthony Mackie who holds his own very well in amongst cast members who have had time to hone their roles.
One of the things that raises it above Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 is that it is the first post-Avengers film to actually acknowledge the other Avengers (I'm not counting that tiny 20 second after thought at the end of Iron Man 3 with Mark Ruffalo in it). With Black Widow sharing the screen with Captain America, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner both get honourable mentions just so we know they still actually exist. Although if they were going to talk about the other Avengers you'd think they might mention the massive battle for the universe that Thor was in but it's a start at least.
So ayway, this is one of the strongest MCU films and a solid continuation of the Avengers story arc.

When Marvel started making movies, with the exception of Batman, I hated superheroes, I hated everything about them. I had written them off as the lowest, cheapest form of science fiction, and the first few Marvel films did little to prove me wrong, but then they started getting better, and arguably the best films in the franchise, or at least my favorites have been the Captain America films. Chris Evans is just terrific, he has this innocent naiveté about him surrounded in a childlike wonderment, but when the time comes, he can still kick some ass and even crack a joke, Evans just fits the role like a glove. There's not much point summarizing the story, because if you're not into the whole Marvel scene, you're probably not going to understand or see this film anyway, and that's a shame, because from a visual stand point alone, The Winter Soldier rivals anything Marvel has put out to date. On that note, the one draw back to this film is there is a lot of Avenger story line involved. This is supposed to be a stand alone film, fans of the series loved it and rightfully so, but what about the people who just like the character and aren't into the whole genre? All the other Avenger/Shield/Hydra stuff and other characters from other series could make the story for them more than somewhat confusing. In watching this film, you almost have to have some kind of background knowledge of the characters involvement in other films in order to be in the know and that doesn't sit right with people, particularly kids, who just want to see Captain America. For the fans, however it doesn't get much better than this, it's slightly longer and rougher around the edges than The First Avenger, but it is still a great film, and a must see for anyone is trying to keep with the Marvel franchise. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Captain America is overall a cool superhero. His powers of super strength are just epic. So that is why I felt the first film was kind of boring. I mean we had a guy who he hated and was a Nazi and so he can easily kill him if he wanted to. While that proved to be difficult and he may have not killed him he still sure showed him who's boss. However, in this film the Cap must face his best friend Bucky aka The Winter Solider. This is hard for him and we see that in the end when he says he will not fight Bucky. So we get to see an emotional side of the film. Then of course the action and special effects are great and Scarlet Johannson is very good as Black Widow. In the end this movie is amazing filled with great acting and of course the emotional side of the film concerning Bucky and all the sadness that fills Cap when he sees Buck die in the first film and then finds out he is still alive but is bad. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cap is back, far more comfortable with his super-soldier physique, his top-secret SHIELD missions, and the modern world around him. The Avengers honestly made Captain America look like a bench-warmer compared to the abilities of Hulk, Iron Man and Thor. This film emphasizes Cap's abilities and what he is truly capable of, and the best word to describe it: Redemption. I have always been far more a fan of super heroes I can connect to rather than how bad-ass they are. I love Iron Man, but he's such a screw-around playboy that I really cannot tell when his emotions are at stake and when he takes things seriously. I mean right after his near-death incident in Avengers, he suggested they go to a well-reviewed local diner. Don't get me wrong, they nailed Tony Stark's character and who he is, but who he is just is not completely similar to who I am. (I mean I was awarded class clown, but I have my morals). Steve Rogers has the most heart out of any avenger. He has a reason he wants to save people: "I don't like bullies." This installment in the MCU holds a storyline I have fallen in love with. It makes it seem like Captain America is a true American hero via his exhibit at the Smithsonian, and one cannot help but feel his pain when he visits the now-aged Peggy. Great scene, great script, great acting. Captain America: The Winter Soldier KNOWS what it is about as well, unlike following Marvel Blockbuster "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". Captain America believes in freedom. He is the true definition of a hero, a savior, a leader, an avenger. Aside from the main plot of Hydra's diabolical schemes, the film's has such strong supporting characters. Scarlett Johanson is almost as comfortable as Black Widow as Downey Jr. is with Stark. She owns the role. Newcomer Falcon is likeable from the first minute of the film, and dear lord his stunts are cool. Samuel L. returns as director Fury with one of the best scenes in the film, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, leading into the film's definitive villain, The Winter Soldier. Sorry to keep using examples from other films, but a simple comparison: Electro holds no meaning to Spider-Man, it would not matter if he were wiped off the face of the Earth, but when the hero has a personal and emotional connection to whom he is now threatened by, it simply makes for a better story and character chemistry. The Winter Soldier is another Bad-Ass to add to Marvel's collection of them. Another decent performance from Robert Redford is in the film as well, obviously not his best acting but he was not given many opportunities. No point in going into detail about his character, it is not a deal-breaker for this movie. The only real negative thing I can say is I got lost momentarily in the middle for a bit, a couple slow but very necessary scenes. Great follow up for Cap, I cannot wait for The Fallen Son. Expand

It's a smart film that's exceptional before you take in it's gestalt. Writing - great, directing and cinematography - perfect, but it's cast is arguably the finest component of the Film. Chris Evans maintains his great character from The First Avenger, but now has to cope with a radically different world than the one he came from. Scarlett Johanssen finally gets enough screen-time to show that she can carry anything stand-alone Black Widow. Anthony Mackie finally gets a role where director's shadow does cover up his exceptional acting talent. Sam Jackson actually gets some moments to not just be Sam Jackson, but the genre-savvy character he implied to be since Iron Man 2. Sebastian Stan deserves praise for how well his screen presence carries given how much of it versus how little dialogue he actually has. Finally Robert Redford does well as Alexander Pierce, a character loaded with mystery who's a rabbit-hole you can't help but to look down. And warning; before you see any other new releases from Marvel Studios (save for Guardians of the Galaxy), see this first. This film also maintains the shift to darker tones that we've also seen in the other Phase II films released (Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World). Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely were being real about a political thriller in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Expand

I really hated the first Capta film, I felt is was more Capta in Limbo than Capta in America.
well to be honest it sent me to sleep. the story of some puppet idiot who wants to go off and take orders from a corrupt imperialist government, OK the USA were the heroes in WW2 but I generally get the stink of false heroism when I hear about the USA today so didn't really like the story about the super soldier. the first film sent me to sleep, SO I had no interest in this film initially, until my friend convinced me to watch it.

I was quite surprised as right from the start the film was suggesting Capta's disagreement with the way the USA was going. He seemed to be at odds with what America has become and so I really started to take an interest. As the film continued I was really impressed at the themes they were exploring and grew to really like Capta and his stance. I started to understand that Capta embodies the true American spirit ; the idea of America that I admired from an early age. The character were quite interesting and although some of them were pretty predictable, there were a couple of times in this film where I was truly surprised. The movement of Capta and the other characters was really impressive, nothing at all like a Michael Bay film where you can't follow the action at all. this was all very clean movement and was very well choreographed. the action sequences were quite exciting and not dumbed down IMO. All in all, this movie turned me into a fan of Capta and now I want to read his comic book about the 'Civil War'.
