This one breaks the mold. The only (minor) trouble is, it's incredibly reliant on events from previous movies (the title is a misnomer, this is a full-on Avengers: Winter Soldier 2) for anything to make sense, and there still, still, STILL isn't a frigging supervillain. Still. Every bad guy is just a good guy having a bad day.
It's funny, it's engaging, and the action scenes actually look interesting, as opposed to the snoozefest of "Captain America beats up 200 normal guys" or "Captain America definitely did not get shot during that hailstorm of bullets." It's slow to start, there are some cheesy bits, mostly involving Black Panther, and each scene contains a minimum of 2 superheroes, but it's actually a fun movie with a good, coherent story (if you still remember the previous.. 4 movies? that weren't that great). Spider-man is a bright spot, and Downey Jr plays a better villain than his last 4 tries as hero.

Rather than being the same predictable formula that's been every movie since Iron Man and Hulk, this one tries to be different and legitimately surprises you in big and small ways. As a payoff or an ending to a series of ok movies, this is great. As a standalone film, god help you.

While watching the movie, I felt something that I had not found in a MCU movie in a while, goosebumps.

My initial thought coming out of Civil War, was that it is a more serious Avengers but with a much more interesting story. Though the movie remains a Captain America movie, the addition of the different characters, both familiar and new, does not make it overcrowded, which was one of the major problems with another certain superhero brawl movie that came out this year. The difference between BvS and Civil War in terms of new characters, in my opinion anyway, is that BvS needed half an hour to an hour to establish new characters, and even then the audience may not feel as emotionally invested in these characters. Civil War on the other hand, did not give much screen time to superheroes such as Ant Man or Black Panther, who non-comic fans may not be familiar with, but despite this the audience instantly connect with every character that is on the screen. The performances of the actors as well as brilliantly written dialogue made this possible. Chris Evans is a perfect Captain America, and returning cast members like Jeremy Renner and Scar Jo do not disappoint. Paul Rudd does brilliantly with the amount of screen time he gets, and steals every scene he is in, and that is coming from someone who seriously disliked the Ant Man movie. A special mention also needs to be given to Tom Holland as Spiderman, as I believe he brought the best perks that both Tobey Magiure and Andrew Garfield brought to the role, and brought them together and then some in an excellent cameo as the younger MCU Spiderman character.

Robert Downey Jr impressed me in this movie. I, for one, was beginning to get slightly tired of the sarcastic, arsey Iron Man/Tony Stark who took nothing seriously and found a joke wherever possible. This movie highlighted that RDJ can be much more than that, and the tone of the movie being more serious than past movies involving Iron Man required a different kind of performance here. He delivered. Don't get me wrong, this movie is still hilarious but I welcomed the more serious tone that it provided.

All in all, the choreography and timing of humorous lines and dialogue makes Civil War, and in particular the airport fight, shine. Being more a DC fanboy than a Marvel one, I will easily admit that this is a much better movie than BvS, so I'm sure everyone will have a blast.

The movie was way beyond extraordinary, especially the fighting scenes. It was more than what I was expected! we could get every element in this like hilarious moments, serious, darker, intense moments and I really didn't except much serious and darker part in the climax. It was great about Winter Soldier and made it better, furthering the story. This is yet another addition to the Marvel franchise, and it's an entertaining story. Spider Man, Black Panther and Ant man they really stole the show in the airport Scene. The film is one of the best of MCU almost on par with Avengers, Winter soldier, Ironman and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Trust me guys! You Will enjoy this.

Captain America: Civil War (and Spiderman). When the trailers and hype hit the world i was giving so much thought into if i would even watch this movie in theater or just buy it after a few years on DVD. The first impressions were: With my limited knowledge of the Marvel Universe, Why would they fight each other? Lucky for me, that question was answered within minutes of the movie.

The movie was just as expected of Marvel: Easy viewing, not to hard to get story-line and a lot of great characters from the Marvel universe including Spiderman. The story was wel driven and its characters motivation for having a grudge at each other was fairly good developed.

The CGI was, as expected, good and the mixture of Human acting and CGI was pretty balanced. I am not into these "good guy vs good guy" movies but this one surprised me with the motivation for why they would be fighting. The cause was, for both sides well explained and fairly realistic considering the characters personalities.

Movie was OK for me, but for a Marvel fanatic it could very well me a 10/10

Watch if:
-Marvel is your thing
-Great fighting scenes
-Marvel champs fight of each other
-Spiderman appearance (Poor but ok)

Don't watch if
-Your affection for DC will prevent you to even think about a marvel movie
-You are more into a Marvel movie where the characters are well developed and explained as for the dedicated super hero movies

Captain America Civil War is not only the best Marvel movie but it's also the best comic book movie so far. One of the reasons why i say this is because the action is better than ever before. If you thought that The Avengers, Captain AmericaCaptain America Civil War is not only the best Marvel movie but it's also the best comic book movie so far. One of the reasons why i say this is because the action is better than ever before. If you thought that The Avengers, Captain America the Winter Solider and other marvel movies had great action, wait until you see this. Not only it'll make you happy, but it's gonna blow your nerdy mind! Another reason is that there are two new characters in the movie: Spider-man and Black Panther and i have to say that, they are the best characters in the entire movie. Tom Holland's Spider-man has to be the best Spider-man we have ever gotten. Tom really knows who Spider-man is and he knew that he had to make the marvel nerds (i'm one of them) happy. Even though that he only is in the movie for about 20 minutes, that's about enough to consider him to be the best Spidey. Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther was a bad-ass. I never really knew him that well but after seeing him in the movie, i want to see more of him. The cast does a really great job portraying their characters. They know what's currently going on with their characters and they know it's a tough time. I know that a lot of people has already seen the movie but if you hadn't see the movie yet then go see it because it's gonna be one hell of a time! Expand

They’re fun to sit through in a theater full of other excited fans, but nothing about them resonates too deeply. But now, Captain America: Civil War has become one of the better of the movies within the trope. It’s packed with the excitement, twists, fun, and laughter that we all expect from Marvel at this point. While it isn’t worth multiple viewings, it is worthwhile for the teens, as there’s more under that shiny armor than what meets the eye.

Based on the 2007 Civil War comic books, this third addition to Captain America’s misadventures turns him into a criminal that the nation has lost its hope in. It’s similar to Batman v. Superman, except done better. The Avengers now find themselves in a public media predicament after a mishap in a Lagos chemical heist ends with several people dying thanks to them. Now, the government decides to let the United Nations Panel instruct the super team. Looks like Captain America now has to clear his name not only with the politicians, but his own close friends and teammates.

Minus Hulk and Thor, all the heroes you know and love are back in action: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Mass Destruction, Hawkeye, Falcon, and Ant-Man, plus some new faces as well: the smoothly cunning Black Panther and your friendly neighborhood, Spider-Man. Now let me tell you, it’s the web slinger’s third reboot within a decade, and at last they got the character right! Within the first 10 seconds, you will instantly say to yourself, “Yes! Tom Holland was born to be Peter Parker! And Spider-Man!” His backstory is also smartly left out. After all, we already know it as this point, right?

The rest of the heroes also have their share of some great laughs, Vision in particular, and they always seem to have tons of fun with each other on set. But I have one complaint though: it’s the same old shtick we’ve always seen. We’ve got a super talented cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlet Johansson, and they’re doing the same thing we’ve always seen them do. It’s not them that’s the problem, it’s the two directors, brothers Anthony and Joe Russo. They just don’t know how to stage actors while getting worthwhile performances.

There are some cool decision that these two make in continuing the series, and some not so cool. With the action scenes, it’s impossible to tell whether if they’re awesome or pathetic.

But first, the good stuff: a garbage truck breaks down the arch in front of a medical center, Johansson totally rocks in combat action, there’s a tunnel chase, Captain America holds down an entire helicopter by himself, the Avengers fight one another in one of the best moments of the entire movie series, and one hero has a big surprise that I cannot mention out of fear of spoiling anything.

Now, the bad stuff: It’s hard to see the action because of the sped up footage and shaky camera (you know what I’m talking about), the editing is monstrous, characters who needed backstories didn’t get one, the VFX looks fake a lot of the time, Black Panther appears out of nowhere and at an unbelievably convenient time, and there is too much talking that takes away the tension.

So therefore, the action is neither awesome nor pathetic. It’s awesomely pathetic. Or is that pathetically awesome? Nah, I’ll go with the first option.

What I love right now about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is how every hero has his own story to tell. What makes it better is how this series makes that concept work so well, almost like it’s the narrative of television marrying the narrative of film! I also like how it points out the issue of heroes creating mass destruction and putting the people in danger, possibly out of reaction towards Man of Steel. Although I probably could’ve done with a shorter film and a clearer plot, it’s neat to see how all the subplots come together in the end.

I understand that they want to save it up for the big finale, but at this stage of the series, such mundane action scenes as lengthy fistfights and car chases are not going to cut it by a long shot. The plot mechanism of collateral damage was trite and easy- look at the news every week, not to mention oh about half the superhero movies ever made.I didn't particularly like the choice of CA's relationship with his old buddy as the emotional focal point of the movie. The dialogue and jokes were flat. I think the big problem was the loss of Joss Wheedon, a genius rather than a Hollywood hack. The second half picked up quite a bit but by then the damage was done. Yes I did it! I actually laughed twice! I was also amazed by the motorcycle chase trick and the Iron Man movie ‘magic’. I was also amazed by the motorcycle chase trick and the Iron Man movie ‘magic’. When you have Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Vision (Paul Bettany), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), each with a super power you know there will be a lot of battles and there are each given a chance to show off their ‘specialty’!

There are so many superheroes that mere human beings like Maria Tomei has nothing more than a cameo while John Slattery, Alfre Woodard and Hope Davis get a few minutes more and Emily VanCamp might even have 10 minutes on screen total with Oscar Winner William Hurt actually seems to be a major character in the movie bit that may only be because he is part of the reason there is a civil war with the superheroes divided into opposing camps.

Between the heroes and, oh yes, a few villains, plus the huge cast, the fights, chases, buildings tumbling, glass shattering, special effects, it is no wonder the film takes 2 hours and 30 minutes.

To me the standouts were Robert Downey, Jr., who can do no wrong on film, Chadwick Boseman making a great impression and Anthony Mackie who may have done a lot of work in front of a green screen but is flawless. I am a fan of Emily VanCamp and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man always gets a smile out of me.

I feel I have given Marvel comic book characters and that ilk a fair chance but aside from “Ant-Man”and “Deadpool” I can do without them. Liking, even laughing, maybe about 20 minutes out of a 150 minutes of a film really isn’t a recommendation.

I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers, but Civil War does everything that Marvel has needed to do for a while. Civil War is perfectly written, crafted with care and heart, and feature brilliant character development. All things considered Civil War is a feat, because it finally shows that Marvel is willing to take some risks, all the while remaining true to what has made their films so enjoyable.
When looking at Civil War, in specific the story, it’s almost perfect. The story serves as a culmination of all the events that have occurred in the ever expanding marvel cinematic universe. The great thing about this film is it’s the first comic book film to intelligently address the issue of how do people respond to the seemingly endless carnage created by the main characters. Such a simple idea is perfectly applied create a thought provoking movie where every action has a repercussion.
The brilliance of this film can’t be understated, because the politics within the film are fictional, but feel realistic, and are dominated by shades of grey. The film finds a way to be more brave than any of the previous marvel films by taking risks and attacking deep issues, but keeps the iconic sense of humor marvel has become known for. It should be noted that the film’s not dark or anything, but it does attack complex themes, and conveys a surprising amount of emotional depth for a summer blockbuster. When you consider the density of the story and the amount of characters featured it’s amazing that the film worked as well as it did.
That brings me to what I consider the most impressive element of the entire film, the character development. It’s difficult to have a film with as many characters as this film has, and make every character feel well developed, but this film does that, more so it makes you feel for characters who are brawling with each other. The acting was one reason the characters feel so well developed as the actors brought small nuances that sold the characters that much more, and while Chris Evans is great in this film the real superstar is Robert Downey Jr., who brings so many emotions to his performance in this film. This is in my opinion the best portrayal of Iron Man since his original film, but the irony is that the show stealer is Spider-Man who marvel nailed.
For those who enjoy films that are funny, touching, action-packed, or just good stories this film won’t disappoint. This film is what Batman v. Superman should have been, however is even more impressive because the film finds a way to juggle so many different tasks, and does it well. Captain America: Civil War is one of those great films that everybody can watch and enjoy for different reasons. If you like movies of this genre, check Civil War out because it’s one of the best in recent memory.

The story here is very, very comic book. It's a lovely film that is gripping and very exciting to watch. And I do personally like, love, a lot of these characters. But, it's ugly. It's a very, very, very ugly shot film. It is not visually appealing due to the awful use of the colour the film uses. And some of the CGI suffers because of this. It's very disheartening because it makes re-watching "CIVIL WAR" imo, very much so, a challenge. Im no expert on cinematography, but when watching a comic book film, I want to feel the colour, I want to feel invested in a vibrant world of absurdity. Making these characters seem darker, instead of more colourful seems like a wasted opportunity, and I personally believe that it takes away from making the flick much more enjoyable. Recently Thor Ragnarok came out, and that flick did a MUCh better job with colour, and cinematography *admititly the flick does have some awfully unfocused shots, and also it has some shoddy lip sinking with the CGI, but it's much more enjoyable and entertaining* I think Civil War is okay. Its just above average. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm actually not a big fan of the team-up MCU movies. I think The Avengers is mediocre and Age of Ultron to be pretty bad. I like the singular movies just fine though (i.e. Iron Man 1 and 3, Captain America 1 & 2, Thor movies etc). Civil War blew me away with how good it actually is. Dramatic moments in the movie actually had a lot of feeling, the actors really meshed well together in this one and the newcomers (Black Panther and Spider-Man) totally stole the show. I never really cared for Spider-Man until I saw this movie. Now I am pumped to see Spider-Man: Homecoming. The same goes for Black Panther; I can't wait to see his solo outing in 2018.

The only negatives I could only think of were the first 15 minutes or so were kinda meh in my opinion and that the title Captain America: Civil War doesn't really make much sense considering this really isn't a Captain America movie. I would named it Marvel's Civil War or something along those lines.

Well, I still can't believe it. Batman and Superman are my favorite superheroes of all-time (even though I haven't seen Batman V. Superman yet, mainly because of waiting to see the "Ultimate Edition" instead of the critically panned theatrical version). I grew up with those heroes and love them to death. But Captain America: Civil War is the best superhero movie of the year.

EDIT: I liked Batman v Superman better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was very excited for this movie because of the premise, having some of the avengers in the movie and new characters that I was very hyped for including Black Panther and Spider-man. This movie imo is the best marvel movie for me and is one of the best superhero movies of all time imo. Although I would say this, after watching the trailers, I had some expectations for the movie and was quite disappointed it didn't happen in the movie. But that was actually Marvel's fault for how they edit their trailers which is quit ridiculous and the movie still delivered. Here are some things that I liked about the movie and things I didn't like about the movie:

POSITIVES:
-The narrative was really intriguing to me because it really follows what happened in the previous marvel movies. Also what I didn't expect is that in the movie, Iron Man and his team actually take sides with the U.S Secretary of State to try to bring Captain America and his team in. Also, the premise of how the final act turns out. So the writing is excellent and brilliant and is the reason why it makes the movie the most mature Marvel film to date.
- The action is great and fun. Captain America and a couple avengers trying to stop a villian from stealing something is awesome. The chase that includes Black Panther, Bucky, the Falcon, and Captain America is great. The airport scene imo, the highlight of the movie and one of the best scenes ever put onto film. You have Spider-man flying around kicking ass. You have Ant-Man, turning into a giant and fighting off other superheroes.. Also, you have some action mixed in with some great comedy that has been there in the previous Marvel movies. The fight that involves CA, Iron Man, and Bucky Barnes was surprisingly violent and amazing. I liked the action way more than the action in the previous Marvel movies, including The Winter Soldier.
- I like how all the superheroes have a great amount of screen time. It could of been an easy mistake where some characters or one doesn't have enough screen time but it was a huge positive that they did.
- The main villain, Helmut Zemo, was interesting because he was different from the other Marvel villains. He was more psychological and a crazed nut. His motive was to tear the Avengers apart(mainly the leaders,Captain American and Iron Man). Unlike Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, his reasons were clear of why he hated the Avengers and wanted them to be no more and the writing of how he made Iron Man turn against CA and Bucky was very well done.
- SURPRISINGLY, Peter Parker/Spider-man had a major role in the movie and stoled the show for me. He nailed it both as Peter Parker and Spider-man. I'm also glad that we have a MCU Spider-man and that awful Sony Pictures Spider-man(oh boy) played by Andrew Garfield is gone forever.

The only negative thing I could say is that I wished the villain played a major part in the story. Honestly, he didn't have enough screen time and wasn't really a focus for the Avengers besides CA and Iron Man. I wish he had more motives/ideas in the movie like what if he led an army and was a threat to the world and wanted to destroy it because of his hatred towards the Avengers. He needed more development. He was like some guy off the streets who decided one day, he's gonna destroy the Avengers and didn't seem like an actual villain from the Marvel comics.

So overall, the movie was amazing. Let's be honest, there's nothing mind blowing about Captain America Civil war besides some moments during the airport scene. I wouldn't say the story is emotionally compelling and oscar worthy. It's definitely not the perfect movie. I would say I liked it more than any Marvel movie but doesn't rank up with The Dark Knight(which takes #1) but is in the list of the greatest superhero movies ever made. If the villain had a major role and had more development and the people thought bigger with the story, it could of been of the best movies of all time. It's actually very close but for what it is, its a damn good movie and will always be one of my favorites.

More of an avengers film than a third instalment of Captain America, Civil War serves up some great fight scenes, moral choices and introduces some interesting characters along the way.
Given that the MCU has been on-going now for nearly a decade now, we've already got some pretty built up characters and CA:CW takes all of these characters puts all of their relationships to the test and whilst it does not fully follow the comics, it produces something really quite nice to watch.
the introduction of Spiderman is executed brilliantly and he swiftly became one of my favourite characters so kudos to Sony/Marvel/Disney for getting him in there. Black Panther is implemented very well again, with his motivations being cleared up right off the bat. Antman somehow manages to be better in this than in his own film (no surprise there) A fairly simple plot and an antagonist with a clever but simple goal, makes this film easy to digest and just plain fun to watch.
Overall, a great superhero movie, much better than DC's latest offering (Yes ,Zack Snyder, I'm looking at your turd of a film for reference here)

The opening act is laboured, though the final act does make up for this and the film is redeemed by the resolution of the storyline. The action sequences are excellent, it's fantastic to see Spidey and Black Panther in action, and the underlying themes of vigilantism and collateral damage are explored in intelligent and considered detail. A witty script provides some fun moments, and whilst not the best film in the ever expanding franchise, it's one that is still worth seeing on the big screen. 8.03/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, by now, you have heard everything there is to hear about this movie, and probably watched it a couple times, but I just watched it and had to talk about it, so here we are. As you probably expect, I had a whole week of hype after this movie was released, but I tried to stay away. Anyway, the movie delivers. Great action, nice buildup to the action, like in The Winter Soldier, and Spider-Man, man oh man. The character was awesome, the actor could use a little work, though. Oh yes, and random fact, Peggy Carter dies in this movie. We all knew that she had Alzheimer's from the previous movie, and in this one she goes in her sleep. At her funeral, Sharon Carter gives a eulogy, and says the iconic "No, You Move" line from the Civil War comics, and I was strangely inspired by that, I don't know why.

One thing that I have heard almost everyone say about this movie is that it gives us a balanced view of both sides of the argument, but I disagree. Yes, when Tony and Cap were debating the logic of their moves, I felt like both were right, but as the movie progressed, I felt that Cap's point was put more strongly than Tony's. Of course, I was Team Cap in the comics, and this was ultimately a Captain America sequel before anything else, so this is not necessarily a bad thing per my opinion.

I watched this movie in 3D, and I have to say, it wasn't that good, and maybe that's just me. There's one scene in the beginning, where Cap throws his shield and kind of comes in front of your face, and a couple of explosions that you feel, but other than that, I won't recommend going for it, because the experience won't be any different if you watch it in 2D.

One actual gripe that I had with this movie was that until the end credits scene from Ant-Man happened in the movie, it felt like it was dragging on. But after that, it more than makes up for it with that awesome fight scene we only saw the buildup to in the trailer. Ant-Man finally went all Giant-Man on War Machine's ass! It was so cool to watch. This is how you do a movie with a lot of characters well, even when you have to introduce new characters in the mix. Black Panther was badass. I don't know much about comic book T'Challa, and this movie was a strong introduction, to him and to Wakanda.

I feel like I could keep going on about this movie forever. So I will stop here. But there are so many things I haven't written here. And, like I wrote in my Kung Fu Panda 3 review, I love it when a well formed trilogy exists in the universe, and this is just the ideal example. The Captain America trilogy has come so far since that light-ass first part in 2011. I'm sorry, I'll stop now, just go watch the movie, it's freaking awesome!

However, I am happy to say that I was wrong. This movie really delivered for me. There were intense, serious, darker moments mixed in with hilarious moments. Not to mention the action was top notch. The fight choreography was amazing, on par with the winter soldier, and the airport battle has to be one of the best action scenes of all times. It was honestly incredible. Spider-man and Black Panther were awesome additions to the MCU and I'm excited for their solo movies. Be sure to stay for the two end credit scenes. IT IS NOT AN AVENGERS MOVIE BTW like other reviewers have said, its about Cap, bucky, falcon then the subplot of the avengers against each other, really a trilogy to Winter Soldier. all the characters were great and can't wait for Spidey & black panther to return!! You do get a little confused about the villain's cause but by the end everything gets wrapped up beautifully. Zemo is a weak villain but you know he's a normal human who has vengeance and who's super smart. Again CE, RDJ, SS, SJ, and the rest of the cast did a phenomenal job and you'll enjoy it :) would definitely recommend it, a hint of a new romance but seriously marvel doesn't need romance to make their movies good AND A LOT OF BROMANCE.. lol GO WATCH IT!! All our favorite WWE superstars would be introduced into the ring after 30 seconds until finally the ring would be full of stars fighting all and all. We surely couldn't determine who would be left in the ring. This Captain America movie took me back to those Royal Rumble days, a bunch of people fighting each other, and sometimes gang up on the big guys, there after fighting against each other to claim the ultimate price. My old man and I had our best times watching Civil War (oh, I meant Royal Rumble). You have nothing to lose watching this movie, it falls in a new genre called Marvel vs DC. Anyway, after the invention of the internet my old man I were brokenhearted to know WWE Royal Rumble was not real. I wish in the next installment we get to see Chuck Norris as Chuck Norris. Expand

Background: I have seen all of the recent MCU films in the cinema except for Age of Ultron (which I saw on TV).

Pros:
(1) The ultimate reason I am giving this film the 5/5 score is the brutal fight scene at the end. When you have two characters unwilling to move from their cause and willing to fight to the end, you get a brutal fight! I see it as brutal but not violent.

(2) There are numerous instances where the film makes fun of the non-plausibility of the super-abilities of the Marvel heroes and they were really funny. I do not believe any of the previous MCU films had done that.

Cons:
(1) It is a bit implausible that one person can create the so-called 'civil war' between the heroes. It makes our heroes look foolish that they would fight among themselves so easily. It makes the Sokovia Accords seemed all so necessary.

(2) It is also implausible that Tony could assemble his half of the Avengers so quickly, including a certain spider character.

Who would think the film is great? All children and young adults
Who would think the film is only so-so? Old adults
Who would think the film is lousy? No one.

Rating: 5/5 (no half scores). It's worth it to watch it in the cinemas and then buy the DVD.

Given that you can be just as easily swayed by either teams opinion, the conflict has more weight. It's a battle where no one is right, and no one is wrong. That's because The Avengers are finally seeing some consequences to their actions. Yeah, they were saving the world, but in the process they inadvertently caused a lot of civilian casualties. Casualties that, as Vision puts it, might have been avoided had none of them existed in the first place. It's nice to see a little more maturity, seriousness, and believability injected into the MCU.

Civil War doesn't skimp out on the excitement either. All the promise of seeing your favorite superheroes clash onscreen is delivered upon. So is the promise of new faces entering into the MCU for the first time. Chadwick Boseman nails it as the savage Black Panther and Tom Holland's Spider-Man is the highlight of the movie.

Needless to say Civil War is just as exciting, action-packed, and fun as you would expect. So what about it's issues? Well, there are few. Not enough to ruin the movie by any means, but enough to keep it from reaching it's true potential.

For starters the special effects aren't that great. The main issue is that the plot running in the background that actually causes the Avengers to clash with one another is kind of disappointing. The villain is just another guy ticked at superheroes because of the destruction they unintentionally caused in the two Avengers movies and seeks revenge. Haven't we seen that before?

There's also the fact that things wrap up a little too easily. By that I mean that the whole thing ends on a note where the Avengers can get back together, no real hard feelings, to fight the next global threat. It's another example of these movies not really having any stakes. No real consequences, despite the synopsis telling us there was/is.

So yeah, it's got some disappointments. However they all fade away when you're watching the heroes do battle with one another, both physically and verbally. A fight that's complete with humor and spectacular depictions of the characters powers. It's also great to see the MCU expand with faces we've all been asking for a while now. Civil War delivers on it's promises. It's another exciting entry in the MCU and shows that that the superhero genre hasn't run out of steam yet. It's not the best jumping on point for newcomers, but it not going to disappoint longtime fans.

For a genre that gets more repetitive every day this is finally an interesting release by this studio, a studio that often fails to appeal to people who need more than just an average family-friendly flick. The best part of it all is Captain America and his friend´s relationship. One could think there´s something else there. The many heroes used here are well balanced for the most part. Being the most irritating thing the new Spiderman (yes, another new one). Nobody needed a super young incarnation of Spiderman, and much less an Aunt May that looks like 30 years old. Marvel continues its renaissance of great directing -- and in this case a story of the characters, and the characters alone.

Captain America: Civil War is a fight that stands on its own. It’s a personal fight -- of emotions. That’s new to the MCU. Moral questions, logical character motivations, splendid chemistry and they even put old events in a brand new perspective. Marvel finally hits on all fronts. The film is spent more on character depth rather than on humor -- it’s a more mature and serious film than what we expected to see. Team Cap vs Iron Man is full of characters yes; but it surprisingly wasn’t that messy as one might suspect. Too many? Yes. But worth it? Ohh yeah! This film and its events are all greatly motivated -- both characters and action. The action might not be top-notch due to some lack of uniqueness and long term entertainment. Too long and meh for my taste. Add some expositions, shaky-cam and a less great ending -- well it’s not a perfect film. Still; it’s one heck of a superhero flick -- a flick that’s not only action and CGI, but most important -- it's a film of characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Civil War is a very well put together marvel movie, when working with this many heroes/story lines and actors in a movie like this it can be difficult to keep in order and make sure what needs to be done is done. But they do a great job in this movie, they are able to implement new characters and old ones but keep it natural. The original Civil War comic book made use of most of the heroes in the marvel universe sadly this doesn't, It brings it in some but not as many in the source material. The villain in this film felt a bit odd and out of place but he was sort of needed I guess? Those things aside the movie is extremely enjoyable, The choreographed fights are amazing and stand out compared to other marvel movies. The story is told very well and they focus on what they need to and is one of the best I've seen in recent Marvel films. But basically job well done all around. Marvel fans will definitely love this film.Oh and spider-man is done extremely well don't worry. Expand

The film is well over two hours. The fights are endless. The one-liners come fast and furious and make the fight at the airport hilarious. For me, the high point of the film.

My main problem with the film is this: How is it that Tony Stark, the guy with an ego too big for any one planet, is the guy who opts to go along with the government, while Mr. Patriotism, Capt America, is the guy who decides to go rogue? Also, the plotline revolving around the evil or stupid government deciding to oppress the superheroes is getting a little old.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoy how they set the scene at the beginning to create conflict within the team. But at the end, the plot does not quite add up. If either Iron man or winter solider is not in Russia, nothing would have happened. Imagine if iron man did not catch up. It will be Captain American and Winter Solider in there like an idiot. Or if there is another person going with Iron man. The situation would be less dramatic.
Anyway, for some reasons, the movie makes Iron man looks like a child which is quite disappointing. I rather have two equal parties in the civil war then a heroic Captain America with a childish Iron man.

Definitely better than Batman vs Superman. Good acting, believable script, reasonable pacing to keep the spectator interested. All in all, a film worth watching.

Marvel brought Great characters, Great action scenes, and (more importantly) combined this with a believable enough conflict and antagonist. The recipe for a Great Comic Book Movie!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Captain America: Civil War" is a more than welcome addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe which has a lasting impact on said universe although it is not without it's flaws. I wish to get the flaws out of the way first: I found Aunt May in this film to be a little too young for this role. She looks more like a Victoria's secret model as opposed to an average supporting Aunt. The revelation of Zemo's plan felt a little contrived and is a major downgrade from his comic book counterpart. In the original Marvel Universe Zemo was a master strategist dand a noble man while in this version he is just an average guy with luck happening to favor him. It does make sense in the narrative considering that he wanted to avenge the death of his family by having the Avengers fight each other but I felt that his inclusion wasn't needed. Just having the heroes fight each other over the registration act would have been enough. The conclusion to Black Panther's character arc felt rushed as well as he just gave up his quest for revenge after figuring out that Zemo was really the one who killed his father. Some of the action sequences are shot in shaky cam which makes it hard to tell who is fighting who. The biggest criticism I have with the film is that Stark never faces any real consequences for the choices that he made. Those complaints do hold it back from being a great movie but the stuff that works well in this movie is phenomenal. Captain America is given more depth as once again he questions the loyalty of the country that "created" him as he helps he tries to help Bucky escape his programming as the Winter Solider. Despite the fact that Stark doesn't face any real consequences his character arc is still intriguing to watch. He is plagued with a guilty conscious over the civilian casualties during the events of Age of Ultron which makes sense considering that he was responsible for creating Ultron. It is easy to demonize the Registration side but unlike the comic that this was based on the film version puts it in a morally grey era. They heroes don't immediately fight each other they try to debate it first but only after some unfortunate circumstances like the causalities that Scarlet Which caused accidentally. Every character is impacted by the event of fighting each other and the consequences (again aside from Stark who should have had this happen to him as well) are what they have to live with for who knows how long. Both sides of the arguments have solid ground and both have loopholes which make it an intriguing watch. The film is even a nice revenge story (excluding Zemo of course) with Black Panther as he tries to kill Bucky for the murder of his father. This creates an interesting twist on his origin as in the other versions he gets his revenge and is more happy as a result. In this film though he realizes that revenge will get him nowhere although how he came to this conclusion is as I said before a little rushed. Stark is also overcome with revenge when he discovers that Bucky killed his parents which heightens the tension between him and Captain America. It actually makes sense that they would be on opposing sides since they both represent the opposite side of the political spectrum. Captain America is the liberal side as he represents the ideal america and has more of an emphasis on freedom and equality while Iron Man is the capitalist and the supposed realist (in fact they are both colored blue and red respectively). The major highlight of the film was the fight scene in the German airport which shows many impressive set pieces. Ant-man gets a lot of highlights as he shrinks into Stark's armor and breaks hi armor from the inside out and when he becomes a giant which shoes very impressive angles and convincing CGI effects. Tom Holland was another highlight as Spider-Man in fact he is the best SPider-Man on the silver screan that I have seen so far Toby Mcguire captures the fragile nature of Peter Parker but he never felt like the overly fragile. Andrew Garfield captures the overly confident hero but forgets to show the fragility of Parker. Tom Holland is the perfect mixture of the two and I am really looking forward to his appearance in "Spider-Man Homecoming". This may be the most critical positive review that you may read in a while but despite some of my negative points in the beginning of the review I still think this film is very good which falls short of being a household name. I highly recommend you see this film. Expand

First and foremost I want to say that this movie is just flat out fun.
In addition to being an incredibly enjoyable film, it's also a rather tear jerking one. Whether that be from uncovering the truth surrounding The Winter Soldier's past, which made me shed a tear of remorse. Or from laughing at the constant stream of jokes and references coming out of (my favourite Superhero) Spider-Man's mouth, during quite possibly one of the most epic and fun to watch fight scenes in MCU history.
This film sure does do a great job with evoking an emotional response.

Not only does the film capture your attention and make you emotionally invested from the get-go, but it also succeeds in including and introducing one of the biggest ever line-ups of characters in a single Superhero movie.
Even without the inclusion of Thor and The Hulk, Civil War manages to bring together an all star cast, and an all superpowered roster of bad-ass heroes.
Every character plays a part in the progression of the story, and not one character feels as if they're unnecessary.. While some characters such as Ant-Man don't have the biggest impact, they still help add to the atmosphere and contribute to the "Ultimate Super-Hero Showdown" vibe that the film goes for.
Some people are also saying that Spider-Man didn't have much of a role, of that he felt to immature or young.. That's because he is. The film introduces quite possibly the best bigscreen Spider-Man adaptation to ever happen. With Tom Holland performing so well that I now have a rather large crush on him and his take on Peter Parker.. It's not weird... I'm his age anyway so it's not weird...I hope...

And last but not least, mainly because I realise I have a horrible style of writing. The story of the film works well. Finding a way to logically include all of the characters presented. Drawing in your attention and making you invested in what's to come. And ultimately showing the deep relationship that each character has with each other, and hints at how this one movie will affect the Avengers for an unforeseeable amount of time.

CIVIL WAR IS A GOOD FILM. A **** GREAT FILM!
SPIDERMAN IS AWESOME!
THE FILM WAS WELL WRITTEN... GO AND WATCH IT!!

ThisI love the superhero stuff, but I'm not a fanboy. The thing that always stopped me getting into them properly, even as a kid, was the childish black and white morality that was never found in the real world (I was a weird kid, okay?). This would be the thing to draw me straight out of the comics and back into reality, rather than the unbelievably of the super-powers themselves. Captain America: Civil War is a grown-up superhero movie because for once it isn't a battle between good and evil, it's about philosophy: should the Avengers be allowed to act outside of international law as the Captain believes, or should they be subordinate to state legislation as Tony Stark does? There's only one way to find out - FIGHT!!!

The film looks amazing, the fights are spectacular without being ridiculously over-the-top CGI-fests like Batman Vs Superman (or parts of the other Marvel films for that matter). For the most part, every superhero feels like they have a substantial part to play (even the ones primarily there to put the audience on notice of other spin-off movies) and the battles feel like they carry the weight of significance, which is an achievement in films like these when you're pretty sure nobody is going to die.

The best Marvel film to date: great, charisma from the leads delivered through fantastic action that's actually driven, for once, by a tight, believable and interesting storyline.

You could make the case for the movie being too dense: Almost every hero in the series shown so far makes an appearance, minus Thor and Hulk, plus entire introductions for Black Panther and Spider-Man. But that kind of thing doesn't bother me in the slightest, and the touted showdown at the airport between Team Cap and Team Iron Man was appropriately epic. But... overall I enjoyed it. I liked the cast, even Spider-Man who I just criticized. It may have been on the lazy side as far as movies go, but it had enough humor and entertainment value that I didn't feel like I had just wasted my time watching it.

I first saw it on Netflix though, so I probably would have been more harsh toward it had I paid movie ticket prices to see it. For "free" though? Yeah, pretty good movie.

Captain America Civil War is an achievement for the superhero genre. Writers Steven McFeely, Christopher Markus and Joe Simon along with the direction of the Russo Brothers have created an incredibly entertaining film.

I initially had my concerns that it may feel contrived; as that was how I felt reading the comic it is based on. I can say that I am quite happy with how they handled it all. Every character has their moment to shine on the big screen. One of the other concerns I had was whether Cap would become lost in his own movie. I can also say that despite the large roster of characters it still feels like a Captain America film. Without giving spoilers the plot is largely driven by Cap's relationship with Bucky. Of course this implicates other characters along the way and provides tangible motivations for each character. This is most evident with Iron Man and new addition Black Panther.

Black Panther as well as Spiderman are both introduced in an organic way that feels natural. It doesn't come across as ham-fisted or that they have been shoehorned in. Black Panther looks great on screen. His costume, accent and personality come across as regal which fits him perfectly. Spiderman is perhaps the best interpretation of the character we have seen yet. I couldn't help but smile seeing him in action.

The standout set piece at the airport is perhaps not only the best super hero action scene; but one of the best action scenes yet. The scene itself evokes the full double page spreads in the comics. I was entertained throughout and the film managed to run the gamut of emotional investment. At its core, its central issue is about two very different ideologies. Yet it is able to also provide comedic moments of levity mixed in.

A few of my criticisms would be that there is a bit of shaky cam in the first act of the film. The villain as is the case in many Marvel films isn't particularly great. Zemo and Crossbones have fairly limited screen time. However the bigger antagonists are the heroes themselves. The other criticism would be of the ending. (Don't worry no spoilers here). The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger and I feel that it left me wanting more. I was so invested by that point that I would have liked to have seen a bit more. The biggest take away I had from seeing the film was questioning what is in store for; and the future of the Avengers now?

Prior to seeing Civil War I think the Winter Soldier was my favorite Marvel film. I would say that as a film the Winter Soldier is the better movie. There were so many things I liked about Civil War though that it ultimately takes a close second. My opinion may change after a second viewing. In the end I think Civil War's parts are greater than the sum of those parts; but those parts are damned good.

The main antagonist's story relied on so many 'if's' that the plot was a game of Jenga and the block that held it together was the insanely powerful moments shared in combat that this movie absolutely excelled in displaying and choreographing. It seems like the character arcs of Iron Man and Captain America had been building up for this conflict all along. This movie is a turning point of the MCU.

Even though it plays it safe by not killing off any character this movie has a lot of implications on the story line of the superheroes and it is done on a very entertaining way, with a nice balance of comedy and drama and a great cast of characters (who are not developed, but that's what all the previous movies did ).

The biggest issue I have with this movie is the way the action scenes are edited on its first half, the camera seemed very shaky and shaky is not what you want on a movie with the budget to deliver stunts and CGI action. Thankfully the action stays more focused as the movie progresses.

This movie was overall a very exciting superhero flick that keeps the future of the MCU interesting.

And high hopes for the new Spiderman.

At first, it makes some sense. Cap wants to get the jet from the airport, but Iron Guy won't let him 'cause he thinks Cap is stupid. The movie just throws in Hawkeye, Ant Man, and Spider-Man a bit earlier without giving them real personal motivations to be in a superhero battle, but whatever; Cap and Iron Guy need mini-armies. That doesn't really make much sense.

Then it gets really dumb. In their airport battle, they start quipping and wisecracking each other even though they look like they're going to kill each other. Cap gets a truck on Spider-Man, almost murdering the young, innocent teenager. Spider-Man's in his own movie in the near future, though, so he gets his webs out and survives. Even though it looks as if Cap tried to slaughter Spider-Man, they're all hunky-dory with each other since Cap is Spider-Man's idol like every other character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cap then asks poor Spider-Man where he's from, and he says he is from Queens. Cap says he is from nearby in Brooklyn, and they bond even though CAPTAIN AMERICA ALMOST MURDERED SPIDER-MAN!!! (Meanwhile, the audience is distracted by "THE BEST ADAPTATION OF SPIDER-MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!") Ant-Man works in the scene, but there's no reason as to why he's here. Hawkeye is there so Hawkeye can be in something besides the Avengers movies. All in all, the airport scene and some scenes before it don't fit with the movie.

Then the movie gets back into shape.

Some of the heroes are imprisoned, and War Machine almost dies. Now we have some depth to these innocent, fictional perfect people. Iron Guy watches his parents die twenty-five years back, and the scene is shot and edited excellently. The resulting action scene is kind of dumb, but at least it fits in with the rest of the movie.

The movie ends with American Martin Freeman containing Sokovian (wherever that exists in Marvel's version of Earth) Daniel Brühl and the heroes being buddies yet enemies (because of reasons).

Spider-Man is the high point here, although I hate, hate, hate what they have done with Aunt May. And Tony Stark knowing where Peter hides his costume is just flat out CREEPY. Expand

The fight scenes, were the best I have ever seen, especially the amazing airport scene. Then I think about the rest, and how the story was one of the best Marvel has made. It was exciting every second. The villain was very smart, even without powers. Of course, having so many heroes in the fights, was amazing. One of the best Marvel movie of all time. Expand

This movie manages to bring a whole bunch of super heroes without the plot imploding in on itself. Of course the humor is there and there is plenty of action to keep you indulged for the entire 2 hours+ that you are there. In all honesty, this should have been an Avengers movie rather than a Captain America movie because he shares the screen equally with other characters such as Iron Man, Bucky, and the newcomer Black Panther. Something that is worth noting is that this movie will not have your typical villain. Overall a fun ride through and through but then again, that's to be expected. Expand
