A favorite of mine growing up. Fun time where you don't have to think too much.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a fun and campy combat based chick flick with plenty of female fights to keep you cheerleading.

Yes this is written by Joss Whedon and the name Buffy is no coincidence. He sold the idea / script to the production company and later left the project because he got dissatisfied with the changes they made (Some will say they butchered his script / ideas). He later produced the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” when he had more control over (t)his project. Buffy became pop culture history, Joss Whedon became recognized and started an awesome career. But back to the movie. This movie is actually really good for the circumstances. According to my research it had to be produced in 5 weeks. Credit were credit is deserved. It is an accomplishment to make a movie in this short time that is not garbage. My main problem is that I watched and enjoyed the TV series first. The Buffy movie character is far away from the TV series Buffy character. This makes it awkward but I cannot blame the movie for it. The actors are solid for a movie in this price range range and you can still see the hand writing of Joss Whedon. They even got Donald Sutherland, Luke Perry and Rutger Hauer as actors. Kristy Swanson plays a good Buffy and Rutger Hauer is a fine villain. The story is O.K. for me and delivers character development and story progression. Again while the battles are good I am unfairly comparing them to the better fights in the TV series. Overall it is worth watching and I enjoyed it. I will warn everyone who watched the TV series first. Because the unfair comparisons made this movie look weaker than it was and sometimes awkward. Expand

It's early 90's cheese at it's best. It was safe, predictable, had decent, but over the top acting, had unnecessary and unbelievable action scenes and it even had the "Let's prepare ourselves" montage with a cheesy song. This movie was so boring, I literally, fell asleep 15 minutes into it. I woke up 15 minutes from the end and surprisingly it didn't seem like I missed any of the plot to me. I asked the group of friends I saw it with what I missed during my hour or so nap, they informed me that I hadn't really missed anything lol. My advice is just stick to the awesome TV show, which was cheesy but great because it didn't take itself seriously (it poked fun at itself and its characters from time to time) but had great character development, drama, and brilliant writing in the later episodes (The Musical episode was great!). As for the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie well I am giving it a 3/10 since that is the highest red review I can give it, since I slept through most of it I will give it the benefit of a doubt that there was something worth watching that I missed during my snooze. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is simply awful. Even the writer Joss Whedon has made it clear that this is not what he had envisioned. Bad acting, bad lines after bad lines. Why would Donald Sutherland waste his time with something like this?

Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a night of campy cringe with a 90s filter, then Buffy the Vampire Slayer might just be the worst possible example (#notmybuffy - I’m being cruel at this point, aren’t I?), but it is an example. ShortFinal Thoughts: If you’re looking for a night of campy cringe with a 90s filter, then Buffy the Vampire Slayer might just be the worst possible example (#notmybuffy - I’m being cruel at this point, aren’t I?), but it is an example. Short flashes of wit are there and it’s fun to see the first portrayal of a now beloved character, but I highly recommend watching the show instead. Pushing past the severely aged first season will show you how a painstakingly built coming-of-age supernatural dramedy should be done.
