I was struck by the distance Brokeback Mountain maintains from the characters, and it almost fooled me into thinking I wasn't emotionally involved in the story. The movie did feel slow at times and meditative at others, thankfully it was mostly the latter and quietly drew me in. So this laconic movie ends, not quite meeting the hype of the critics, the media, outraged conservatives, or gays starving for realistic representation in well told story... and you think... jeez that was sad, but it's over. Not much So this laconic movie ends, not quite meeting the hype of the critics, the media, outraged conservatives, or gays starving for realistic representation in well told story... and you think... jeez that was sad, but it's over. Not much action, but the acting was great. And then you wake up the next morning with the guitar of the soundtrack in your head as you shake off a night's sleep. And a pervasive sense of desolation pervades your day. And you keep seeing this shirt. And maybe, if it's been a rough day, you'll have a few moments where you need some alone time. This is a movie that burrows into the places where you keep your regrets, missed opportunities, losses... your woulda-coulda-shouldas and quietly expands the space to bursting. It stays with you and flavors your week. It breaks your heart. Ledger gives a performance I've rarely seen and didn't expect. The direction and cinematography are stunning. And the story, spare and minimalist, overwhelms, almost as much by what is left unsaid. Perfect movie? Nah. Iconic gay movie? Actually - not really - it's a western about bad choices, missed opportunities, heartache, mutually inflicted damage when no other course seems possible. But best of the year? Given the tripe coming out of Hollywood lately, I'd say it's the best of the last several.… Expand

I expected more intensity in the film; it seemed slow at times. Then the film builds, stabs you in chest and makes you leave the theater thinking more about it then you've probably thought about anyother film in years.

This was a most poignant love story. Given one can soar past the supposed reasons for being unsupportive of homosexuality, it touches our heart. Most humans want love and companionship in their lives and this movie demonstrates the love that This was a most poignant love story. I have never been so moved or as deeply affected by any movie ever. Ledger and Gyllenhall are riveting in portraying a wrenching, inconceivable love.

One has never known this kind of story can be so touching to your heart. It stays deep there then comes to your mind over and over again. The director gave it a nice flow, which connects you to the characters.

Incredible! Jakes's performance is too often overlooked in most reviews -- hea AND Heath made this movie what it is -- one of the greatest movies of all time !!

Brokeback Mountain’s faults make it clear that it was based off of a short story. The film goes on for while taking many scenes to establish what was made clear in one scene. The film goes on for while taking many scenes to establish what was made clear in one scene. Despite lengthy time going by its hard to get a sense of the characters outside of what is shown and given the nature of story it would be beneficial to understand what the characters thinking. Even with these faults the film still gets across its story nicely. The film nicely captures the struggles of tow men dealing with their relationship with each other in a story that is touching and emotional.… Expand
