Step inside for sheer entertainment and spectacle you will be rewarded come in expecting a philosophical story arc you will rip it apart the moment the film begins. Ayer seems to still be feeling out his identity in storytelling but this is a strong statement for Ayer who isn't afraid to still take risks after a lack luster suicide squad performance.… Expand

Exceeded expectations! I honestly think this movie would have done a lot better in cinemas instead of Netflix. It was very original, and kept me in suspense for the duration of the film. Ce film est objectivement tout à fait correct. Je l'ai trouvé innovant. L'univers "modern-fantasy" fonctionne à merveille. Les acteurs sont bons, les costumes et maquillages réussis. On ne s'y ennui pas. Gros défauts cependant: L'incohérence par rapport aux 3 assassins elfes. Ils sont capable d’éliminer en 2 minutes un gang armé jusqu'aux et une troupe d'élite de police, sans manquer le moindre tir...Et puis sans raison apparente, ils deviennent extraordinairement maladroits dès qu'ils se retrouvent face à Will SMITH et à l'"orc-flic".Ils commencent à rater tous leurs tirs face à 2 types ordinaires... Dommage, j'aurais aimé que les scénariste se creusent plus la tête pour trouver quelque chose de plus crédible pour justifier l'invincibilité de nos héros.… Expand

Created an account just to rate this movie. Very enjoyable, everything was absolutely well done. Plot, direction, acting -- all on point. A great movie, and I don't understand why the critics are panning this one. Here's hoping for Bright 2.

It was an odd mishmash of End of Watch police buddy movie and Suicide Squad fantasy, but it certainly wasn't terrible, and had several good scenes. Overall it was decently entertaining, which is more than I can say for The Last Jedi.

After reading about how poorly this movie was made and how much of a flop it was, I wasn't very surprised to find that it was much better than the reviews were admitting to. While the world is vast and leaves some questions unanswered, that by no means makes the movie hard to follow or less enjoyable to watch. The action was fantastic, the characters were portrayed very well, and the humor was spread throughout to break the tension. I could see how much older viewers who aren't accustomed to a fantasy setting might have a hard time to follow, but if you're like me and prefer the fantasy genre you will most likely enjoy watching this movie.… Expand

Nice popcorn "Cinema". I like the story setting, i like the characters, i like the story. Didn´t understand the critics. I was good entertained while watching it. Would be happy if there will be a Part II or a Spin-Off.

A flawed movie but a very fun one. The movie never lies about it's intentions: It's a gritty take on a modern fantasy setting. You have orcs, elves, fairies, dragons, centaurs.. I loved this movie. As one of the critics said, this felt like a cross between Training Day and Lord of the Rings. I can only think of one problem. The movie was delibered by a internet movie provider instead of being released at cinema. I think that may hurt some people, and, might this model of audivsual bussiness become usual, may cause lost of tons of cash to certain sectors of audivisual industry. May I be wrong, but right now the only reason for pro-crits being so low seems purely "political" (related to bussiness) to me.


As for the movie:

-Succesfully manages to mix modern day world with magic and fantasy. Well packed action. The movie introduces you to a whole new, solid alternative world with just sidelines and few scenes, without burdening the spectator wich "alternate history classes". It really gives the feeling that the world and background is much more developed than you see on the movie, and really feel like being a starting point to a franchise, maybe a whole TV (Netflix) series. It has the potential to become a whole new fictional universe to develop all kind of stuff, somehow like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings universe. Time will tell.… Expand

Don't listen to the dumb critics, this is a fun watch. Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous and ponderous sometimes, but it's a nice melding of traditional copy drama and Tolkien-esque fantasy.

The critics get it wrong yet again. This movie is pure entertainment. Will Smith is his typical charming self. The action scenes are impressive. As a long standing fanboy of shadowrunish universes, good action and Will... I loved that they managed to combine the three, Absolutely brilliant, lacking slightly in pacing a really good story though. Would love a sequel, or similar. This is a really fun buddy movie that's basically set in the Shadowrun universe. If you already know what that is, you're probably going to enjoy it. It was a fun movie. Kindda like training day meets Shadow run. Will smiths humor was spot on and the plot had a few issues with holes but overall the writing was good. These critics are terrible they dropped the ball with this and last jedi.

They don't spend overly long trying to explain the concept of the world to us, which is nice. They give the audience credit to just kinda roll with the setting and overall ends up giving us a pretty realistic depiction of a world with magic and rolling into a simple, yet believable story. I have a good feeling that most of the critics didn't even watch the movie and likely just read the synopsis and just made assumptions. Hopefully Netflix realizes that it shouldn't pay attention to them because this movie is a good setup for some really awesome future stories. I am looking forward to the next of these movies. An overall far too grounded film given its fantasy trappings and the teases of an interesting take on urban fantasy. Those familiar with the tabletop RPG "shadowrun" may find similar veins to this in its tone. Those familiar with the tabletop RPG "shadowrun" may find similar veins to this in its tone. Though, given it's meant to be contemporary urban fantasy it eschews the cyberpunk and dystopian aesthetics of that namesake. Overall, the film has a lot going for it, even with the utter lambasting critics are giving this film. It doesn't diminish that the film has good chemistry between Nick Jakoby (The United States first orcish officer) and Daryl Ward (A cop looking to survive the 'diversity hire'). All the acting is spot on, and fits their roles well. And the action does not disappoint both in its variety and visceral qualities.

If I had to give this film any negatives its that it is a bit bog standard cop drama film. Even with the magical elements. As I said earlier the film seems like it fails to fully capitalize on its interesting setting and more world building could be done in a 'sidequel' with another film set in the same universe (or perhaps a netflix series if they thought to do one). I recommend giving this film a shot. Don't go in with expectations of a highbrow or intellectual film. Think training day with orcs, elves, and some magic.… Expand

I'm not sure why all the hate on this movie. It's a brilliant new IP and one of the best movies I have seen from Netflix thus far. I love sci-fi and fantasy movies so had to watch it. I was entertained and it was worth the 2 hour watch so I give it 8 out of 10 for that. Here is my potential movie universe right here, forget supper hero's. I don't care if its a mini series or a book, just something. Its a lot like a great video game that ends on a cliff hanger, it shows you just enough of the world for you to be obsessed with its inhabitance and how the world functions, that you just have to have more!! Not that it can't stand allows without more. I just wan't more. You can't have a Centaur as a mounted police man (a centaur who is a police officer) or a dragon flying in a night sky shot and expect me to not lose my mind over those concepts. The ideas that are shown in the move are so delicious they could go in so many directions. Flawed, but brilliantly bright :P… Expand

He shared the screen with Will Smith who is a consummate actor and he rose to the occasion. Good use of occasional SFX that complemented the movie. I would definitely watch Bright 2. I will give a negative to the first half hour...I did not think they would be able to pull all of the strings of story together. But I stuck it out and I was glad I did.… Expand

"Bright" is one of those "a little from column A and a little from column B" stories. It's a typical cop drama mixed with alien-racism, this and that from "The Fifth Element", and of course, Will Smith's over the top cowboy-ism. The film has some decent action scenes and VFX but it throws out plausibility in the final 20-mins and that's its biggest disappointment. One other thing. This film had more of a tv series feel to it than a movie, especially since I watched it in 1/2 hr chunks. I think it would do better as a short series maybe. This movie was great, it didn't go into extreme detail it just tells a fairly simple story with fairly complex props and concepts. It doesn't require you to spend time to pick things up, it puts them in front of you as things go on and expects you to understand without spelling it out for you. If this movie spent an hour extra with some kind of recap of how the world came to be, this would have been tedious. It's there to give you a glimpse, but to not waste your time. Sure they want to make more of these, no doubt, but they don't spill all the details on the first date. It shows you a good time, and tries it's best to be decent and hopes you are willing to ask for more.

Considering I watched this movie at home, for no extra money then what I am already paying, more of this please. Don't let these terrible critics dishearten your efforts. I'll be telling anyone I know that this is a decent movie and worth the price of a month of netflix, even if they have already binged and watched everything else you have to offer them :)… Expand

I was looking up this movie and it had a score of 28 from critics and 75 from viewers. SO I think I give it a chance to see the discrepancy I must say, THANK GOD, I decided to watch this movie. A good way to describe the setting of this movie is Lord of the Rings meets District 9. This is a "modern" world that has Elves, Humans, and Orcs. The Elves are the high class race, living in expensive part of the city called Elfcity. The humans seem to be the butlers of the world. The Orcs live in many different communities. They believe in clan rules and law. They considered the lowest class (among the 3) because of their transgression 2,000 years ago. There are other classes like Dragon which we see very briefly. We see small fairies which are considered rodents. Now, the movie centers around a human cop called Ward and his Orc partner Jakoby. They run into a elf who has a wand. A wand is magical and able to cast abilities by those who can wield it (called Brights). The movie does a great job building the world, characters, and setting. You can definitely feel like a sequel will be made and it would be great. I give this movie a 7.5/10… Expand

At times, Bright feels a little bloated, some scenes are a little hokey, and a few plot elements never go anywhere, but these are nicely balanced out by some great action choreography, beautiful cinematography, and some really nice acting from our three leads. What actual openminded critic gives this a bad score some jokes were low brow but alot were clever and well placed.to the guy about the shotgun blast....yes there was a dragon looming over L.A. in one scene. The 0 posts with hipster jibberish from a un-read mind of fantasy and adventure wouldnt get this movie being a huge fan of fantasy i was extremely curious of how it would all play out in a modern era...well played good base for sequels and im highly interested in a back story of the last human bright on record perhaps a back story graphic novel is needed to boost the allready growing fanbase with a little more back story before moving sideways in the series and eventually forward to the top of the modern-day good vs evil... And to the big wig dinks calling themselves critics shame on you... How do you lie to the public...… Expand

On a side note, it seems that critics do not reflect what audiences want. Looking at the large divide between the audience and critic ratings of this movie and that of the most recent Star Wars release makes one wonder how relevant critics actually are. It also makes you wonder if many professional critics are paid by the movie industry to produce these reviews. Perhaps the industry is afraid of the nontraditional manner that new content appears on Netflix. With many households having high definition screens, surround sound systems, and streaming capable internet, there is little reason to frequent cinemas when a similar, yet less-expensive experience can be had at home.… Expand

Even by the standards of a normal cop movie, Bright would already be considered decent. Add all the fascinating world setting, and you get a very enjoyable movie. The critics need to get their wands out of their asses and rematch the movie.

This is a good movie. That man William Smith is a very acceptable actor. The story and visuals were also very acceptable. I would consider it a good thing were a sequel to be produced (as long as Mr Smith remained the protagonist).

Bright is a good movie. Sure, there's a lot of exposition, some really eye-rolling overdone set pieces, and more than a few corny moments. But unlike most modern action movies, it has something to say, it says it with surprisingly restrained pacing, the dialogue is mostly engaging, and it's exciting.

And sure, it utilizes all of the typical fantasy tropes, from the macguffin to the chosen one, but it feels like the writers knew that, and that was half the point.

One thing I really liked was the choice to cast a black man in the roll of somebody on the perpetrating end of racism, while conversely casting the orks as the ones who historically did something wrong and the humans as the ones who wouldn't forgive them for it.

The critics are being way too hard on this movie. It was a bit tough to get into in the beginning but once it get's rolling it's a classic Will Smith cop drama with a bunch of gunplay, magic, and cool effects. Good acting, fast paced action, and even the "diversity" SJW crap it's not only passable but you can take it in a totally ironic way and laugh all the way. I was thoroughly impressed with this movie. Went in expecting nothing due to the universal panning by critics, but left knowing that critics and I have different tastes in what we consider "worst movie in 2017"
