This film was lovely: funny, sad, and hopeful without ever straining after cheap emotion. The raves for Cillian Murphy's performance are richly deserved; his "Kitten" is sensitive, imaginative and sweet but also callow and self-absorbed, though this shortcoming that so peeves the critics (who, presumably, were running soup kitchens when THEY were 17) helps protect him from the violence in his life. Moreover, he gives it up in the course of the film, moving from sentimental, overly-scripted fantasies about love to the real thing with all its muddle and mess. Unlike "The Crying Game," the IRA is at the edges of this film, which I found interesting and probably closer to the experience of most in Northern Ireland and England at the time. The conflict would fade away entirely as the film attended to private concerns, exploding back onto the screen when least expected. There's lots more to praise: wonderful casting, even in very small roles (seeing Bryan Ferry was fun); outstanding costumes; perfect music, not only to evoke the period but also to comment on the action. I think Neil Jordan hit this one out of the ballpark, to use a phrase American critics will recognize, and I'm sorry it didn't garner more of their accolades. Oh well, they didn't like "Blade Runner" either, which may actually have helped the film's reputation. Expand

A great film from one of the most under-rated directors working today. I'm pretty sure "it moved" when I was watching Cillian Murphy, not that theres anything wrong with that! Expand

Too bad it was such a tough year (with so many quality lead actor performances), cause this really was worthy of Oscar consideration. The movie itself is at times funny, touching, heart wrenching, and ultimately uplifting. Loved every moment of it, including the absolute funniest scene of any film that I saw last year (Kitten takes on the troops). Expand

(Would have given it a 10 had the ancient sound system in the theatre at which we saw it not swallowed some of the more heavily accented dialogue.) Cillian Murphy is astonishing in this. His is the first drag performance I've seen that (Would have given it a 10 had the ancient sound system in the theatre at which we saw it not swallowed some of the more heavily accented dialogue.) Cillian Murphy is astonishing in this. His is the first drag performance I've seen that substitutes femininity for camp, and does so perfectly. The film itself is well-paced and clever; if it has a flaw ("cloying," contrary to the critiques, isn't one of them), it's the lightness with which it touches on some very dark subjects. But it's Kitten's story, after all, with Kitten's shadings, and brava for that! Expand

I thought this was the most endearing movie of the year...Cillian Murphy certainly is a treat and I'm glad that as a country we are graced with his appearances and his supurb acting abilities!

Started out a bit slow, but definitely grew on me and by the end I was hooked! Flawless soundtrack includes Dusty Springfield's haunting rendition of "Windmills of Your Mind".

A true fairy tale, in every sense. Great acting, great music, 1001 crazy nights & days. Bombs & blarney; slight, but touching. Love the robins, love Cillian &, most of all, love St. Kitten-not a mean bone in her body.

Breakfast on Pluto is totally funny, uplighting and by far more interesting. It earns your emotions without pandering for them and makes no excuses for its subject matter and thankfully doesn't have that drooling-for-an-Oscar quality like so many films...It's a story of many stories, not entirely linear, but circular- just like life. And, it's about the life of Kitten. And she is WONDERFUL! See the damn the movie. Expand

Both Cillian Murphy Liam Nesson and among my favorite actors, but this movie is quite possibly the strangest thing I have ever seen. It had a few funny moments, so it gets a 2... but it was really basically unwatchable.

Wonderful, funny, touching, at times heart wrenching. Cillian Murphy is superb, he is an actor who has the ability to totally inhabit his role and make it believable.
