This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will only say this Do not watch the movie trust it will be a waste of time and money. This movie has literally no backbone and no story other than the too much stretched out love story which also contributed to the film's bad reception among other things, but credit where credit is due the sound effects and vfx are unlike anything i have seen in indian cinema they did a great job there if only they would focus on the rest of the movie as much maybe it could have been better. All in all do not watch the movie it is pathetic.… Expand

Excellent movie overall

Ayan sir , pls try to make convincing stories about astras.. some misguided wrong infos hurted me a lot!! Ayan only focuses on love chemistry between Ranbir and Alia.. cheap copy of hollywood films, highly dependent on VFX!!

No climax, one sided motto.. Cheap marvel film.. Highly disappointed..
Try to skip this film .. no entertainment .. poor acting too… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Who is more stupid? Ayan who is writing this mediocre story from 10 years? Karan Johar who spent 400 cr on this stupid script? Me who spent 400 on ticket believing the hype?

First they introduced Brahmastra as the most powerful Astra. Then they told Agni Astra is even more powerful. In the end they told LoveAstra is the Strongest of all. If they don't have clarity in which one is more powerful, how will audience connect and what's the point of Astraverse?

Negatives:
1) Dialogue writing is terrible. It's the biggest negative for me.
2) Story, Screenplay, Direction - Ayan sucessfully failed in all 3 departments. There will be a limit for stupidity and this film crosses it.
3) Love track. For god's sake why do you need love track in every film?
4) Shahrukh's role utterly wasted.
5) Nobody has acted in this film. Except for Ranbir in few scenes & Nagarjuna, everyone in the whole film was expressionless.
6) Villain is not powerful enough.
7) Alia is present only to love Ranbir & provide him with moral support.

The Starcast, The razzmatazz and The Pyrotechnics couldn't save this ship from sinking. Bad storyline cliched by corny love-story. An all-encompassing Disappointment. This one's gonna age BAD. God save it's soul.

The movie itself was fine, the acting from the villain was not great, and for all the praise ive heard for the vfx, they were bad, like - congrats you did particle effects well, so did infamous second son, a game from 2013 which had to do those effects 30 times per second in real time. I will say the vfx are good when the vfx is as good as iron man (2008)

Plot wise. Im going to be comparing to the mcu as brahmastra is supposed to be the begining of a new cinematic universe. They only say that it is, the world ending stakes are way too high for a starting, and they treat the ending as if its the conclusion after years of build up. Like imagine if thanos was defeated by the avengers in the first iron man movie and the last line was "we have won the fight". There would be no point in the mcu! Thats my main issue with this movie. If you want to watch it, im not stopping you. But theres many movies which are going to be even better, so waste your time by watching them instead of this… Expand

The story was decent, Background music fantastic, VFX incredible, Dialogues not so good, songs were good they can be deleted but they didn't affect the movie so no problem for me, starting was superb, interval also excellent, the climax was not good but I think love story part was justified at the end. Everyone should go and watch it in 3D. Hoping for the next part to come so some doubts and mysteries can be resolved.
Finally, I will say, It was not perfect but it was good. I think this movie is not for the international audience(maybe I am wrong). Indian audience will feel more connected to the story.… Expand

The movie doesn't have a proper story to tell. VFX are below par. Everywhere you can see only lights.

There are many scenes that don't make sense like an Astra getting defeated by bullets, the protagonist searching using GPS so easily butThe movie doesn't have a proper story to tell. VFX are below par. Everywhere you can see only lights.

There are many scenes that don't make sense like an Astra getting defeated by bullets, the protagonist searching using GPS so easily but antagonist can't do the same.

All big stars like SRK, AB and Nagarjuna are wasted in tiny and illogical roles.

There are hints of characters to be played by Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in part 2 of this movie. It seems that they will play as parents to Ranbir Kapoor.

Climax too, disappoints. Dialogues are cringeworthy. Acting is average. Direction is below par. Editing is worse as the movie feels too long.

So, this movie is not worth watching in theatres or ott. It can be shown to kids below age 3 as they will enjoy this kidding.… Expand

• Let me get to the good part first. The visuals are wonderful. I highly recommend watching this on a big screen. It's on par with the visual grandeur I expect from big-budget movies like this. It's on par with the visual grandeur I expect from big-budget movies like this. Kudos to Cinematographer Pankaj Kumar and the team for pulling this off.
• The world of Astraverse is quite intriguing. The powers, the individuals who are associated with the powers are ripe for a potential franchise. • The first 15-20 minutes do a fantastic job of setting up the conflict point of the movie.
• The performances by Ranbir Kapoor, Big B and Mouni Roy stood out for me. Especially Ranbir Kapoor is in his element as the titular character. So is Big B in his Obiwan-like character. Mouni Roy was surprisingly good performance-wise.
• Loved the action sequences too. Especially the interval and climax ones. They were visually dazzling too. Special mention to the background score by Simon Franglen which did the heavy lifting at times.
• The second half was considerably good compared to the first half for me, mainly due to the focus on the conflict point and the Astraverse.
• After the first 15-20 minutes, the movie nosedives considerably. The love story was the weakest link in this movie. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor had great chemistry, but the writing was so sub-par in these portions. • Although there were occasional glimpses of the conflict point in the first half. It wasn't that engaging and felt overlong tbh, the interval portions came at the time when my interest started to fade away.
• The dialogues were so bare-bones and felt that they were aimed at kids. Imagine If Obiwan explained about Lightsaber as "Yaar, they are blue tube lights which do brum brum sounds".
• They are exactly like that, I am not even exaggerating. My word! They lowered the impact of the proceedings and the Astraverse.
• There were so many plot devices in this movie. It was so convenient at times which is a direct effect of Lethargic writing. • I mean you could have set up the proceedings to lead up to that event. Nothing of that sort, just convenient plot devices. • During the entirety of it's run time, I liked only two characters whose faces were not even visible in the movie. Rest of the characters ranged from bland to forgettable. Hero was basically the luke Skywalker of harry potter without the distinctive character traits.
• Overall, Brahmastra is visually fantastic but it's just a soft thud rather than a knockout punch due to its bare-bones dialogues and plot devices.
