Bottle Schlock. What could have been a Grand Cru turns into a Grand Poo. Uninspired, unconvincing and unbelievable. I was looking forward to this movie because of the story line....Loved the shots of Napa and Paris. The hideous wig Bo's character wore was a distraction every time he appeared in a scene. I was hoping he'd clean up for Paris, but I was looking forward to this movie because of the story line....Loved the shots of Napa and Paris. Like another commenter, I felt like the movie just plodded along. Expand

A documentary would have been informative and entertaining, but this approach simply failed. No matter how hard you want to try, there is no "hip" angle to the world of wine.

Starts slow and ends corny but everything in between is nice. Don't expect greatness and you'll not be disappointed.

Lots of faux platitudes to wine ("it is sunlight!"). I looked at my watch constantly. It is a great premise, and Rickman and Farina do their best to keep it interesting, while the shots of California vineyards and peppy, folksy soundtrack do set a pleasant mood. But there's TOO much time spent driving around, looking at the grapes, and every time some tension is built, it is rapidly broken. It only gets 4 points because of the attractiveness of the scenery, and Eliza Dushku. And I actually LOVE wine and the stories that go with them! Your ticket money would be better spent purchasing a bottle of Yellow Tail. Expand

Good cast, well acted, especially Alan Rickman. Finely written, but it does have a few slow moving patches. I also wasn't impressed with the period detail. Overall, it is a satisfying film though.

I really enjoyed this little film. I had never heard of the film before but someone recommended it to me so I gave it a shot. What I found was a good comedy fueled by charm and heart (reminded me a lot of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen). TheI really enjoyed this little film. The performances were also good; Rickman does a great job and Bill Pullman gives a really good performance as a Napa winemaker. Wine lover or not, I completely recommend this movie. Expand

It wasn't a bad movie, but it was a little boring, predictable and I don't think the original story was worth making a movie. Granted, the acting was good and the story was a little bit interesting, but all in all, it wasn't that good.

It does rely on some basic stereotypes of both the French (stuffy old pompous wine experts) and Americans (being too laid back and uneducated about wine). Its an easy watch and it features a reasonable cast with Chris Pine, Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman. This isn't really a memorable watch but its alright. I wouldn't expressly recommend it, no. Expand
