Blade. A bloody sight. Marvel created an amazing vampire hunter, and Wesley Snipes played him well. A fearless and almost invulnerable fighter with fangs. The final match is also very good!

Easily one of the best comic book action movies. Sure the dialog wasn't the best but the soundtrack and fights are. The movie aged well too and Wesley Snipes deserved a bigger audience for bringing more adult centered comic movies to the table.

The scene where Karen and Deacon are talking about the cure for vampirism initially ran a bit longer and answered the question of how the vampires would feed if everybody was turned into a vampire. They would keep some humans alive in giant blood bags to harvest them. The bags can still be seen in a doorway during the scene, and later played an integral part of the plot in Blade: Trinity (2004). It gets to the point by telling you about the character and plot and then executing without delay. It's a good thing the humans have Wesley Snipes, a sort of daylight-immune half-breed who possesses vampire strength, speed, and senses, handicapped only by his need for a special thirst-for-human-blood-inhibiting serum and an apparent absence of human facial or vocal expression. A very, very fit Snipes does an exceptionally athletic job of shooting, chopping, burning, and capoeira-ing dozens of vampires in time with a thundering electronic soundtrack while hunting Stephen Dorff, a lowly working-class vampire who wants to move up in the world by summoning the Blood God to subjugate humanity once and for all. Helping Snipes stop this vampocalypse are handyman Kris Kristofferson and hematologist N'bushe Wright. Sure, the story is pretty standard, and the dialogue is laughable or worse. But creative cinematography and non-stop, decently choreographed gratuitous violence make watching this comic-book movie—Blade is a minor, almost-forgotten Marvel comic—entertaining. In fact, it's arguably the best comic-book movie of the year. Expand

It's good,We are facing a film that was planned and thought for the teen audience, thirsty for pure hard action with fights more choreographed than ballet and litres of blood everywhere. I could be exaggerating, but this film is just that. It's good, if what we're looking for is something to entertain without thinking too much.

Its based on a coherent script, although its fantasized, superficial and sometimes illogical. Everything revolves around Blade, a vampire who walks during the day, hunting and killing other vampires, usually the naughtiest. Blade's real motivations are never fully explained, but we understand that they are related to his past and his late family. Here, however, he has to face a powerful vampire, who carries out a palace coup and takes power in vampire society, and who is determined to invoke an ancient blood divinity that will exterminate the entire human race (it seems unproductive to liquidate their food source, but things are what they are). The film has dialogues full of insults and heavy slang, scenes of bloody deaths and violence, but it was made for a young adult audience. The film also explains many things about the rules and the vampire society, as well as the way humans sometimes want to be turned into vampires, but that is all in the background when it comes to action.

Wesley Snipes is convincing in his role, which is basically a highly trained and apparently unstoppable tough assassin, "Terminator" style. He never laughs, never shows emotions, he imply hit, fight and kill. He is not a friendly guy. Kris Kristofferson gives life to his mentor and greatest ally, an elderly human who, in the past, was a vampire hunter. Basically, he sounds and behaves like a smug cowboy from those old western movies. Stephen Dorff gave life to the main villain and was very effective in his task, giving his character an air of sadistic cruelty that made him threatening and convincing. N'Bushe Wright appears simply for being pretty and as a draw for the male audience.

Technically, its a film that bets everything on action and on highly planned and choreographed fight scenes. Of course, some of them are shown in slow motion, a feature that "Matrix" helped to popularize the following year but which, for me, becomes tiring and even expendable. There are dozens of deaths, we can't even count them, and there are kills for all tastes. It looks impressive... and it is! You can see how much money was invested in these scenes. The sets and costumes are good, but I would particularly highlight Blade's costume, black with some quilts that seem to work as bulletproof armour, and a raincoat that looks like a black cape. Showy and stylish.

A reminder of the pre-MCU days where Marvel and other superhero films weren't afraid to get more experimental in their approach. These days you won't see anyone make a comic book adaptation for their cinematic universes this dark and bloody. Especially not Marvel. At least not outside of Netflix.

Like a lot of the videogame and comic book movies from the late '90s and early 2000s, the action in blade is of a hyper ridiculous, over-the-top nature that can occasionally get too silly for it's own good. There are also some moments that would have come across as cool and acceptable back in 1998, but are just cheesy today. Blade still holds up surprisingly well though. Especially for a film that uses the popularized, glamorous take on vampires. This is largely because it plays itself with almost an entirely straight face. This allows some moments that could have been terrible coming off as much better than they otherwise would have. Such as the blood drinking scene that is completely unsubtle in it's symbolism of sex. Blade also doesn't forget that while it's creatures of the night are all fashionable pretty boys and girls, they are historically monsters.

Wesley Snipes gives an incredibly cool performance. The character of Blade himself though goes underdeveloped. With the exception of a surprisingly emotional scene involving the mentor/surrogate father figure "Whistler" (portrayed by Kris Kristofferson) that allows Snipes to actually do some light acting, our protagonist never comes off as anything more than a blank slate. Blade is hardly more than a vampire killing-machine we never get to learn much about. He can fight and toss out some clever one-liners, but I was ready to see some growth well before the credits rolled. This is somewhat made up for with the villain though. Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) is a much more memorable antagonist than most of the foes in modern superheroes find themselves up against, even if his motivations are of the standard "vampires should be ruling humans instead of hiding" variety.

The way the story plays out and the style in which scenes are shot really does make Blade feel like a live-action comic book. Much like the Thomas Jane Punisher movie and to a lesser degree 2003's Daredevil, Blade takes is a dark and mature alternative to the more family-friendly superhero movies that make up the majority of the genre. It's the kind of thing I would love to see Marvel and DC do on the big-screen again. Fox is the only one giving us R-rated cape and costume flicks these days. I love how Blade fully embraces it's horror side. Something that opened the door for the multitude of grotesque and gory kills. Some elements of the story don't hold up quite as well as they should. For example the stuff with Blade's mother comes off as inconsequential and gets weirdly incestuous there for a second. There are also scenes that seemingly contribute nothing to the overall plot.

Blade is a reminder of a time where superhero films weren't afraid to take risks and go to some more adult places with their action. While this didn't always win them a bunch of support from the professional critics, they were usually able to find their own followings in the audience. This is a movie worth checking out if you'd like to see a darker Marvel character. One that if they ever did decide to revive for the MCU would most likely get relegated to one of their TV shows that have begun to feel somewhat disconnected from the larger universe as opposed to the big-screen treatment he deserves. Look at what happened to Frank Castle. If Marvel ever does decide to follow in Fox's footsteps and make another R-rated superhero movie aimed at adults like they did back in the day (it's worked for the X-Men three times now) this should be the character they do it with as his original adventure is still good 20 years later.

This is Marvel cool!? Not until Dead Pool did they revisit a mature rating and only in a joke movie. Blade still the baddest ass Marvel character ever seen on screen to date.

Не плохой, мрачный, с ноткой юмора фильм. Всем гикам рекомендую к просмотру. С данным фильмом вы должны ознакомиться!)

This was Wesley Snipes' defining role, and he was perfect in it. Expand

I was looking for cool Wesley Snipes and an interesting story for Blade. To say the least, it's a disappointment.

The original story seems to be Marvel Comics. Of course, I have not read the original work. Without considering the original, Wesley Snipes is cool, but the movie is all action and not much else. To be honest, I thought the blood raining down from the ceiling in the first scene was amazing. However, the many interesting scenes at the beginning were also great, and I guess my expectations were raised. From the middle of the film, it became all Wesley Snipes action.

The problem with all the action is that it's boring. As I said earlier, I had high expectations for the story from the beginning. However, the quality of the story gets worse and worse as time goes on, so it's no fun to watch and the only thing to see is the action. It's not just the action that I'm looking for in this movie. The flashy (and somewhat unreasonable) use of CGI does not cover up the problems with the story.

Also, foreshadowing in a film should ideally be carefully collected, and there should be surprises and discoveries. In this film, the careful storyline in the first part of the film is disturbed by the messy action later in the film. The story is predictable and not that well thought out.

No matter how cool the action is, the story leaves something to be desired. It was interesting until the middle of the film.
