Gorgeous and Exciting!
Every aspect of this movie shows loving attention to detail from the sumptuous costuming to the high tech gadgetry. It works well as a stand-alone film because I have not seen the majority of the MCU films. Princess Shuri is Q to T'Challa's James Bond, and she has created a variety of super-spy gadgets to thrill and entertain. I highly recommend this film to you.

First, the bad news
After watching this movie twice one thing is really bugging me, the fight scenes. What a missed opportunity. Civil war set BP up as a martial arts bad ass with a fighting presence similar to Bruce Lee. The BP movie kinda strips that cool factor away with poorly shot fight scenes. In a way, it's like TDK cus the fight scenes were **** in that but the story was superb.

Now for the good news
Killmonger, killmonger, **** Loved Killmonger! Not only was he sympathetic, he was right about EVERYTHING. If BP and Kilmonger could work together somehow it would have been beautiful. 2 panthers! 1 like MLK and the other like Huey P Newton both complimenting and balancing each other. I liked all the characters and personalities in this film. I liked the different tribes and their colors and outfit. The art direction and costume designs were off the **** CHAIN! if they don't win an Oscar for that it will be a blatant snub. The Dora Milaje were amazing and hot and I never thought Michone from walking dead was hot, but "damn." Umbaku was fun and I liked his sense of honor. Everyone did a great job even Martin Freeman even tho he didn't really need to be there. Back to Killmonger. He delivers a line in this movie that made me tear up cus it was true and it was tragic and that's his whole character. I just can't say enuff good things about Micheal B Jordan in this movie. I loved the relationships between the characters they all felt real especially between BP and his sister Shuri. I'll be re-watching this film for the rest of my life.

...and now for the ugly news
Too much CG. Practical effects should have been utilized more and the cam shakes too much.

...and the weird
I got thru a review without spoiling anything :) also the stingers were not good or interesting

If you haven't already, go see this. If you've seen it already, go see it again. Marvel never lets me down and continues to surprise me.

...one more thing, "Killmonger" that is all.

I'm giving it a 10 to balance out the "zeroes" that are being handed out by people who clearly got a stick up their ass. Don't believe the ones who say that the movie carries racist undertones. The main villain is pushing for black supremacy, but the movie clearly acknowledges that his schemes are nuts and that his way of doing things is not okay. CGI is sorta ropey and the fight scenes might not be as good as expected from someone like Ryan Coogler (who directed Creed, a movie with awesome fight sequences), but overall it's a solid movie. "Black Panther" was a film that had me excited from the get-go, honestly even more so than the extremely-hyped and much-anticipated "Avengers: Infinity War" (don't get me wrong, still looking forward to it, just keeping my expectations in check). I'm so happy that "Black Panther" didn't disappoint me, and it's personally one of my favorite films in the canon thus far. I loved the film for how it focused so much on character-building than just throwing baseless action scenes into the fray, and I also felt the characters in the film were some of the most memorable, well-written ones in the MCU thus far. The design of Wakanda (and the film as a whole for that matter) is breathtaking, the acting is superb, and the film succeeds at being both emotional and often quite humorous. This is another very strong entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, and it's absolutely worth watching! Expand

It has a good cast, an interesting story with a relatable moral dilemma and a strong villain that could be a great hero if things were different. After a flashback to the past the story deals with T’Challa becoming the next king of Wakanda. This is not granted as he has to fulfill a ceremony and not all groups / tribes in Wakanda are satisfied with the status quo. As sidenote: Wakanda is pretending to be an average African country but in truth they are far technological superior than anyone else and this is because of their Vibranium metal (Fictional metal with amazing properties far stronger than titanium). Meanwhile a strange soldier named Killmonger has a plan that can change everything. I am sorry to be vague here to avoid spoilers. The story is amazing. It deals with sins of the past, what makes a leader and responsibilities. Also the villain is really strong. His motives are understandable, he is intimidating and awesome. Like I said he could be a great hero if his past was different. For the actors we got a strong cast. Chadwick Boseman is the perfect choice for T’Challa. Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger is equally good and a favorite choice after Thanos for best MCU villain. I think I shorten it a bit a praise the whole cast and team behind the screen as it is well earned. The costumes, set and special effects were excellent too. Overall I think the praise is deserved and I also give a 10/10. Would recommend it for all MCU fans and even outside for the story as it is relatable. Expand

T'Challa is the hero I've been hoping to see for a long time in these movies. He's strong, brave, complex without being dark or a jerk. The supporting cast is awesome, with his sister Shuri (who almost steals the show), his ex Nakia, CIA agent Everett K. Ross, and guard Okoye make up an awesome team. They are fun to watch and each gets real stand out moments. Okoye getting my personal favorite action moment of the whole movie. The action feels fresh and exciting. Focusing on smaller fights over grand confusing CGI spectacles. It all looks very cool. There's a car chase midway through the movie with Claw that is particularly awesome. The story feels much more adult than most superhero movies. Dealing with the complexities of how to be part of a world that may not like you but you have to do your best to make better anyway. The corruption of power and how the powerful manipulate the fears of others to gain more power. It also stands alone. You will not need to see the past 10 years worth of Marvel movies to understand anything (aside from one post credit thing). Okay, let's address it. There is a lot of alt-right hate out there against this movie. It's a movie about black people who are strong and independent. It shines a light on the damage caused by white colonialism. So, of course, they will hate it, say insane untrue things to try and stop people from liking it. And this is how they will be as long as they get their marching orders from Infowars, fox news, and Trump. Ignore them, decide for yourself. Remeber it's only a movie, so breathe and calm down. If superhero movies aren't your thing, this might not change your mind but if you've liked them but wanted something more mature then this is it! Expand

The themes and culture represented is what makes the movie interesting and gripping. Michael b Jordon's Kill monger as a anti-hero steals the show with his motives being very clear which adds layers to the story. The movie as a whole is grounded to reality despite having futuristic tech. The only Minor issue is the CGI is noticeable in towards the 3rd act.

One of the best MCU villains. They kinda underused Andy Serkis' character, however. The overall story line is excellent too. Fight scenes are well done. This is, nevertheless, probably the grimmest MCU movie. After USA, Asgard, the Galaxy, Sokovia, and Europe, the MCU has branched out to Africa, which is very nice. Overall, I do believe this is one of the best MCU movies ever, along with the likes of "The Winter Soldier" (Which also happens to have politic as the main motive), "Civil War", "Iron Man", and "The Avengers". From aA triumph in world building, character development and expanding the scope of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the ability to be. Wakanda is a locale teeming with history, culture and identity and sucks the viewer into its world. From a thematic and intelligence perspective, Black Panther is a film that breaks the mold when it comes to Super Hero films and has its narrative elevated on the back of supremely talented actors who complement each other in scene after scene. Ryan Coogler has directed a masterpiece here.

As for the racists who clearly haven't seen the film and are threatened by what this represents for underrepresented demographics, your '0' reviews will not effect the enjoyment the vast majority of general audiences get out of this film nor will it dampen the universal critical success it's about to experience. Your attempts to drive down the score is pathetic.

Excellent movie. The script is impeccable, the characters and their motivations very well elaborated. Also, how wonderful is the adaptation and representation of the African culture shown in this film. For now the best MCU movie. 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of my favorite Marvel and superhero movies and one of my favorite movies of all time. The writing and screenplay were stupendous. The acting from Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, and Andy Serkis was outstanding. The costumes were phenomenal especially Chadwick Boseman's, Angela Bassett's, Letitia Wright's, Michael B. Jordan's, and Danai Gurria's. The sets were excellent especially Wakanda. The soundtrack was terrific especially the songs All the Stars and Pray for Me. The visual effects were great but sometimes they weren't to real looking. This is a A+ movie. Expand

T'Challa feels like an extremely different lead character in a big action movie, especially an MCU one, his story presented in the movie isn't one about how a flawed character becomes a hero, it's the story of what comes after, of a Hero and a King doing what he has prepared his whole life to do. T'Challa is supported by a great set of supporting characters, highlights being Okaye and Kilmonger.

Eric Kilmonger is the main antagonist to T'Challa and he's as much a child as T'Challa is mature. With an extremely painful past and the best of intentions, he might be the most interesting antagonist Marvel has put to screen till now. I wish they could have shown even more of him and less of Klaue, even though Klaue was a really fun addition to the movie. But perhaps the most interesting character in the movie is the nation of Wakanda itself, properly developed like Asgard never was. Seeing so many different and interesting aspects of Wakanda throughout the movie was an absolute treat. And the refreshing score combined with the awe inspiring visuals truly brought Wakanda to life.

This movie makes me really excited for the future of the MCU. I hope they keep making more and more different movies like this. For now, the future of MCU looks as beautiful as a sunset does in Wakanda.

The level of care in constructing a genuine African culture and borrowing from the language, costumes and traditions of RL African country made the movie authentic, and the weight of the political commentary embedded in it landed perfectly. It's very well cast with everyone in their right place, the women especially. This will get too long if I go through everything I liked so I'll just say the hype is very well deserved. The story, the special effects, the intrigue, and the action were all superb. However, what was truly phenomenal was the acting by such a massive cast. This just doesn’t happen in action, let alone super hero flicks, even today. Those who refuse to see it for the racial reason or know people like that. Tell them it really is just that good beyond the racial make-up, then tell them a White hero actually figures prominently in the end, so don’t fret… ;-) Expand

Everything was good, characters, storyline, camerawork, idea, and development. The problem of racism. Since Marvel making movie mainly for young audience 8-16yo, they should talk about such problems, because ofter movies and cartoons are the sources of stereotypes. This is not typical marvel's movie, there is no lots of explosions or even worldwide problems, no super-villain like Altron or Thanos who want to destroy all humanity. CGI wasn't so clear, right, but it's not Transformers or Avatar who spent lots of money on it. This film is not for the audience who came to see a great CGI movie. You might see it even from a trailer, it's not so typical like Avengers: Infinity War with tons of pathos. IMO, haters are 10yo or they just came to see a typical huge scale of the problem. The great idea to unite technology, culture, and traditions, great dialogues, great acting, this film was good almost in everything, only CGI was not so good, but i don't think this is a huge problem. And yea, the OST was really awesome.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

"In the case of the American Negro, from the moment you are born every stick and stone, every face, is white. Since you have not yet seen a mirror, you suppose you are, too...

...It comes as a great shock to discover that the country which is your birthplace and to which you owe your life and identity has not, in its whole system of reality, evolved any place for you.”

"when you open your eyes on the world, everything you see: none of it applies to you…

...It comes as a great psychological collision…”

-- James Baldwin

These words epitomise a very real experience to most BAME children. It’s a ‘privilege’ that white children (even into adulthood) aren’t able to access. That trauma packaged in that subconscious epiphany, the internalisation that the ‘default' does not include you. Thus begins our Infernum, our Hades, our mortal plight, our perpetual identity crisis; a restructuring of self to find a suitable form congruent to the social cues that confront us.

There’s a disparity of self that occurs when having to navigate society. Detaching one’s self from one’s race, Dorothy being rooted out Kansas, to function within the ‘default’ yet always being reminded that you don’t belong, your form is not valid.

I say all this to emphasise the relevance of Marvel’s latest film, Black Panther. [Beyond me just being a bit of a comic geek, lol]. Marvel’s Black Panther is more than just a comic movie, it’s a piquant vehicle #Mutlidimensional.

There was a sensation that I felt while I sat in the BFI IMax, it was new yet nostalgic, I couldn’t quite articulate it at the time other than a feeling of serenity and ease. Only this morning was I able to consolidate the experience and process that novelty yet nostalgia; I was transported back to a time that resonates in James Baldwin’s words, a time before society held a mirror up to my infant mind (or rather a time before I became aware of that mirror), a time before I realised I was not the ‘default’, not white.

The beauty of that moment (2hrs 15min) made me aware of a phenomena that had been as imperceptible as breathing. That Dorothy effect, that astral projection out of a racialised body in order to relate to storylines and characters in a sea of media that on a superficial level don’t represent you. Though, sitting there in my seat I was able to consume freely; there wasn’t that extra expense to relate. It was palatable without me having to escape my body or escape the woes that society thrusts at me as a mirror. The scenes were familiar, culturally as well as aesthetically, the rhythms of the movie connected with my breathing. There was a flourish of ease and serenity, that’s literally the only way I can best express at this time.

Beyond my own experience, the vehicular nature of this film offers a fantastic opportunity to white folk as well. It allows the white individual an awareness. It’s an opportunity to escape their bodies outside of the ‘default’ and exercise this layer of detaching and relating to a hero (not a slave/victim/help), an entire cast and a narrative that’s altogether foreign aesthetically, culturally and historically. This contrasts the POC experience of escaping their racialised bodies to bridge on to the ‘default’; whereas white individuals may escape their bodies and bear a glimpse of being racialised, an eye opener to whiteness juxtaposed to ‘other’.

Another strong aspect that the movie delivers; it transports all of us to an alternate timeline. To an Africa that blossomed outside of the jaws of colonialism. Where all the resources stayed connected to the land and evolved into a technological empire that married tradition with technological functionality. What Africa could have been without being stripped of its people and its material resources, and an infrastructure to properly manufacture and regulate corresponding technologies.

I didn’t want to jump on this whole hype, but the movie was beautiful on the notion that it offered me a serenity I haven’t felt while watching comic movies. I’m definitely watching again.

Director Ryan Coogler with a Dream Team cast of award-winning superstars has deftly delivered the best superhero film ever. Blending bits of Shaka Zulu, Star Wars, Spiderman, Kill Bill, Braveheart, plus a nod to Enter The Dragon, The Matrix, and a sprinkle of 007 -- Black Panther is a bountiful Shakespearean feast of vivid Afrofuturism laced with enough complex unapologetically Black hIstory metaphors to fill a year of Februarys. From the Oscar-worthy costumes (Ruth Carter) to the fantastic cinematography (Rachel Morrison), Black Panther is the ultimate big-screen theater experience - an instant classic with universal appeal. Tip: stay through the full end credits. My only problem is I can't advance buy a ticket for the sequel now. Ndiyabulela! Expand

Black Panther is a brilliant film. Besides being a game changer, the script, acting, and direction are simply superb. I would highly recommend viewing it, multiple times. One of the best movies you will ever see.

I cannot applaud the director, actors, and actresses enough for their performances in this movie. If THIS MOVIE DOES NOT GET ANY AWARDS, THERE IS A CONSPIRACY IN HOLLYWOOD. Absolutely loved the action, loved the story line, loved the character development, loved...every...second. Expand

They all start to look and sound the same after a while. That’s probably why they were more effective on comic book pages then on TV and movie screens. However, when something like the recent Wonder Woman film or Black Panther comes along I’m forced to rethink my attitude about the genre. Great storytelling, compelling characters, and visually captivating. More superhero movies like this, and I won’t be so quick to trash them. Expand

This is one of Marvel's greatest films to date. T'Challa's story is a very complex one and this movie certainly did the source material justice while fitting it in well within the larger MCU. This is certainly a can't miss
