I absolutely think this movie deserves to be highlighted the action and the comedy are great, I will agree and say that at times the movie does kind of seem like its to out there with the colors and things but if you went into expecting any different with Harley as a main character then I think you probably didn't know that much about the character. With that being said I pleasantly enjoyed the very subtle and understating feminist points I think if you want to make a female lead movie don't make a big deal about it just make a good movie and the positive response will follow. With that being said this movie proves that point actions speak louder than words. I think that the movie was very well paced and had very little to gripe about the couple of things I didn't care for was the big fight in the end was a little chaotic and left me wishing I could of seen more of it but i honestly think that has more to do wit the projectors at the movie theaters not really giving a great contrast with dark scenes. All that being said its absolutely worth a watch lots of fun and very little bad to say about it. Expand

I stuck it though and I did not regret it. Getting past all the worst bits, the movie was a hell of a ride. The violence certainly did raise the emotions very high and it became exhilarating throughout the rest of it.

It was certainly on par with Joker and Shazam. DC do these kinds of movies well. I recommend this film, but apparently there is a lot of 'hooha' about it. Buying into all that stuff can really ruin a movie. (I wonder to myself, if I had not paid attention to the 'hooha' around captain marvel, would I hate that movie as much as I do?) Well in any case, if you've not paid attention the media with regards to this film, you should consider giving it a go.

The movie, though good fun and action-packed, was nothing shy of a classic DC movie. With a majority of the plot being spoiled in the marketing, Birds of Prey does not pack the punch it is capable of delivering. Plus, the messy, time-jumping structure of the narrative is not only convoluting but also immature and unnecessary. There were certainly moments of badassery and fun, but the rest was nothing but cringe and a weak(ish) plot. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely adored this film! It's action-packed and fast-paced, with a gripping storyline and a cast of complex, kick-ass characters. The soundtrack is killer, the choreographed combat scenes are hypnotic, and the sets are visually stunning. The twists might not surprise you, but I think the cast will still delight you. Ewan MacGregor is deliciously malicious as the Black Mask. Go see this movie if you like girls, violence, or girls committing acts of violence. Expand

DC really seems to be heading in the right direction recently, with films like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, and Joker realizing that sometimes all it takes to make a movie that people actually ENJOY is to, ya know, let the filmmakersDC really seems to be heading in the right direction recently, with films like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, and Joker realizing that sometimes all it takes to make a movie that people actually ENJOY is to, ya know, let the filmmakers realize their own vision and make the movie THEY want to make, no matter the tone or ratings. I am so glad that "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" is a film that follows suit.

"Birds of Prey" is maybe not the title I would have chosen for this film, because it is 100% a Harley Quinn movie. But if that doesn't bother you, then you're gonna have a hell of a good time with this one, because this is an excellent Harley Quinn film! BoP channels total Tarantino energy, with a storytelling style that feels very reminiscent of films like "Jackie Brown" and "Reservoir Dogs", but viewed through the lense of a kaleidoscope. It manages to be totally feminist without crossing a line, as in it spreads its "Girl Power" attitude without shoving it down your throat. The cast and crew are majority female, but neither men nor women are treated worse on the basis of gender in the world itself (Wonder Woman handled this very well too). It has some of the most incredibly wild and fun action set-pieces with impressive in-camera stuntwork (courtesy of John Wick and Deadpool's incredible stunt team), I've seen in awhile in a CBM. There is also incredible set design, great camerawork, wonderful uses of color, perfectly endearing performances by the entire cast.

Ewan McGreggor is a standout as the perfectly pathetic, scenery-chewing and menacing Black Mask, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz were very welcome surprises. Mary Elizabeth Winstead could have gotten more screentime as Huntress (hell, her story could've filled an entire movie on it's own), but when she's there, she kicks so much ass and is, quite frankly, adorably awkward in a way I couldn't have predicted. The rest of the cast is great as well (Rosie Perez and Amy Wong are great, and newcomer Eliza Jay-Basco is nice as well), but the MVP is without a doubt Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She continues to prove herself to be incredible in this role and is better than ever here, and here she really gets to delve a bit deeper than we might expect from her character (her background in psychology is used often to great effect). I cannot imagine any other actress filling her shoes, and I couldn't be happier to say that.

Birds of Prey was as entertaining, fun, and wholly-Harley as I thought it could have ever been, and I am so glad to say that I loved this film and can't wait to see it again (Although it should've still been titled "Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey").

TheBirds of Prey is the perfect definition of fun yet still mediocre. It has its own style and stays consistent with it for the most part except for some areas but unfortunately falls into the forgettable yet fun comic book movie. The performances from everyone besides Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor were decent. There wasn’t anything special about their performances but they did the best with what they had. Margot Robbie is fun as Harley Quinn. She knows how to make the character work and she is easily the best part of the film. Ewan McGregor is hilariously over the top. He always takes each role he has with as much energy as he possibly can and it was always entertaining to see him on screen. The worst part though is that Margot Robbie is the only character who is developed. Everyone else is just there. They have little to no characterization which reduces their impact to the events of the film. Ewan McGregor’s character is evil just to be evil. We don’t get a lot of information about why he is evil, he just is. Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s character has the second most amount of backstory but it feels forced plus I didn’t really care that much about any of the supporting characters. An ongoing problem I have been noticing with the films I have seen this year is their respective scripts. Out of the three films I have seen, this has the “best” script but it was still pretty weak. Some of the lines of dialogue are very forced and the jokes are inserted in the same forced way. I felt only a small handful of jokes, such as the Harley voted for Bernie joke, were funny while all the others felt forced or just weren’t that funny to me. The film’s visuals were engaging and interesting. The presentation of the film never felt bland to me. It was always colorful and appeasing. The action is mostly well done. The police station action sequence is pretty awesome but it gets interrupted halfway through by narration which goes into another flashback sequence for about 20-30 minutes. That annoyed me because I was enjoying this badass action sequence and it got interrupted. The film does this at certain points and it can get confusing but I eventually got used to it. Overall, Birds of Prey is a dumb fun comic book movie with fun action and good performances from Ewan McGregor and Margot Robbie but the script and limited to no characterization take away from the experience. It begins after she's been dumped by The Joker. She goes on a carefree kick-ass spree that includes tracking down a special diamond and the girl who has it. Robbie stays over the top with big aplomb and fun fight choreography. Ewan McGregor plays the villain, but never makes much of the potential to match her over-the-top characterization. There's plenty of happy and mean-spirited fun in this lively movie, even though the assemblage of the "Birds" doesn't happen til the final scenes. Those two seeds obviously being the undeniably prolific and popular Harley Quinn character and the slightly more esoteric Birds Of Prey comics. Both are Batman-related, yes, but the lore surrounding these two entities crossing paths in the past is scant, to say the least. So what did we end up getting in this de facto first attempt at bringing these characters together in any form, let alone on the big screen?

It's alright. A tad scatterbrained and lopsided, but an enjoyable film, nonetheless.

Margot Robbie is having a blast, but it's almost futile to think the powers-that-be cared about anything other than a chance to capitalize on the Harley Quinn craze (see Harley Quinn's contributions taking up three-quarters of the title & Warner Bros. recent, post-release rebranding of the film). Ewan McGregor is a welcomed face. Though, I couldn't help but notice that his character was a bit of a mishmash of other Batman villains, rather than being an entirely accurate portrayal of "Black Mask." Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli is quite inspired, but supremely underutilized. Again, lopsided, scatterbrained, but enjoyable. The fight scenes are a smash, the set design is interesting to look at, and even the cinematography is sleek and eye-catching. However, I'm not sure I can ever justify these characters all being in the same movie together. Did Harley Quinn really need the Birds Of Prey in order to succeed in her own movie? Why even include the Birds Of Prey, when a Harley Quinn solo film was what was so obviously teased at all along? These questions will rattle around upstairs for only the next few hours, sure, but I can't blame myself for doing so in an attempt to get closer to what exactly went wrong, what could have been and what might yet still be.

For now, though, I still think it was simply alright.

The film is mediocre at best like last comic book films such as Elekta or Green Lantern but it looks childish and sloppy next to a film like Joker. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was looking forward to seeing Margo reprise her Harley role. After 10 minutes my mind was begging me to walk out. Of the 1000 or so movies I’ve seen in 50-55 years, I have only walked out maybe twice. So I stayed and just got more disappointed. The Woke feminist messages, (idiot, weak police, creepy guys, thugs, all men are evil!) the non-sexy Harley costumes, the nearly nonexistent storyline. The breakfast sandwich? The Black Mask rarely wearing the mask, (and face, it he was not that interesting) the young pick-pocket girl that could not act. Help! Let me out of this lame, bright, crazy world! Made me want to watch Suicide Squad again, did not realize how great that was! Expand

The direction of the film was lacking for me. In a world where Todd Phillips pulled off Joker (2019) this seems like a more rushed project that would've been better at Netflix or even Amazon Prime for release. I think the deserve another crack at this movie & another attempt at something with a bit more substance. Expand

To those saying the movie is a movie made to hate men don't pay attention to them, the movie has no instance where it degrades men. Its just women fighting bad guys pretty much like any other normal heroes movie. I mean let's be rational there's millions of movies where men fight men, does that means men hate men? But if it's women then it's all horrible thing, think about that for a second. Overall watch the movie first because most of the reviews are from people who haven't actually seen it and hate seeing women not being weak or sexualized. Y para que entiendan en español no les crean a esos que dicen que la película odia a los hombres solo son mujeres vs villanos no más cuando son pelis de hombres vs hombres donde están las críticas hablando de hombres odiando hombres? Mucha doble moral no? Por favor miren la película primero porque muchos ni la han visto aún. Expand

It was better than I thought it was going to be, due to the fact that I've always thought both Jared Leto and Margot Robbie were miscast as the duo. While I still believe she's wrong for the role, Robbie is nonetheless an excellent actor and she gives us a serviceable Harley Quinn.

HQ is not a complex character. DC seems to put together its best movies when it capitalizes on complexity. She's hot, crazy, fun, dangerous -- but not complicated. That said, the writers did an excellent job with the script, and I appreciated the points where they weren't afraid to poke fun at themselves for the inclusion of an 80's cop cliche.

Still, pacing was a problem and I never got the sense that we were seeing enough character development to justify the slow parts of the movie. The action sequences were all entertaining and very well done.

I wish they hadn't decided to push for an "R" rating. The swearing and the next-level violence seemed gratuitous, lending nothing to further the characters or the plot. Whereas JOKER demanded it, this film does not.

For what it is -- a fun comic book romp based on static characters -- I enjoyed it, but I won't be prioritizing a second viewing.

Here with Birds of Prey I find myself asking myself similar questions: What is the uniqueness to the plot? Why does Quinn seem pointless as a character? Why choose this cast? Overall, there is countless questions that comes about from this movie.

Overall, this movie isn't much better than Suicide Squad (which may have been the worst movie I've ever seen). The acting was absolutely atrocious, with Margot Robbie essentially saving the day with her role of Harley Quinn. Although it still seemed forced and dragged, it felt like Robbie was trying to carry the entire movie on her shoulders, which unfortunately could not happen. The screenplay was pointless, I am still questioning why someone would actually write something up like this and actually say it was good. It is baffling. The aggressive, relentless, and tiresome force to shove women's equal rights down people's throats was nauseating as well. I am all for women's rights and the injustices that women fight for on a consistent basis, but this was poorly articulated in the film. The portrayal of certain characters pains me to see because some of them have great stories behind them.

Unfortunately, I find myself seeing this movie as a wanna be Deadpool movie for DC (except Deadpool is actually good). I could say a lot more, but it seems pointless to write something on this movie anyways. This movie is just bad, I do not understand why DC can't make good movies.

However, the movie is not without its problems. If you go into this movie thinking its the best DC movie of all time, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

While I did thoroughly enjoy the performances of Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor, the writing of Birds of Prey leaves a LOT to be desired. It's 2020 and DC has yet to figure out how to write a good story! The story structure borrows way too heavily from Deadpool, and honestly, the constant 4th wall breaking and narration got to be grating. The Birds of Prey are really empty characters, and I feel like I learned nothing about who they are as people. The best part of the plot was seeing Harley Quinn post breakup. The whole story about the diamond macguffin thing was really stupid, and I couldn't care less about it.

The action and direction is pretty fun. I can't lie, I found a lot of that to be really enjoyable. I also really liked how they didn't shy away from how violent a lot of the characters are, especially Harley Quinn herself. This isn't a movie I think I will ever willingly seek out again, but I would be lying if I said I hated the entire thing.

One film I didn't like though was Suicide Squad and this film hits a lot of the same notes that failed that film. I am a Margot Robbie fan, and she is amazing as always in Birds of prey, just everything else felt off, the world they have built here feels uninteresting and the styles and costumes are just NOT appealing to me. I Really didn't like the clothes Harley was wearing, I don't think she should have do the whole sexy psycho thing, but at least a little femme fatale would be good. In this film she is dressed like a 5 year old or a cat lady or something. Part of Harley charm has always been the fact she is drop dead gorgeous and insanely intelligent. But at the same time she is straight up dangerous and even though every man wants her , most a to scared to even try. In Birds of Prey she doesn't come across as attractive at all, she is actually sort of gross ,they have leaned into the "Mental Patient" look way to much. Expand
