I was happy to see some great bits, but the movie as a whole was quite disappointing. If you really want to see great performances from Fey and Poehler, check out 30 rock and Upright Citizens Brigade, respectively. As far as Baby Mama is concerned, catch it when it plays on TV. And had the film been written by Fey it would have suited her much better - as in 30 rock or Mean Girls where her wit is on better display. Expand

However, she seemed about 10 years too old for the role. I liked that Tina Fey was allowed to be a very capable businesswoman, who doesn't mess up her work with "baby fever." Also, the ending struck me as being a bit tossed away, without the ooomph it should have had. Overall, I enjoyed this movie--it's lightweight, but it's a fun night out. Expand

Could have been better if they hadn't put 80% of the funny parts in the trailer. Overall, not a horrible movie, but predictable.

I finally watched 2 or 3 weeks ago on DVD. It really was not what I had expected. I'm not saying the jokes aren't funny, they're just not enough to say the film dosen't have flaws. It is lightweight(which means it dosen't deliver as much as it could) and predictable. Plus some of the jokes are rather vulgar, and it's 12 minutes too long. But it elkes very lightly on the stand-alone fact that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are 2 of the best-known female comics we have around today. My conclusion: It's okay. Expand

My wife wanted to see this morning, and I just knew I was going to hate it. After seeing it, I take that back. There was some really good laughs in this movie. While I probably will never watch it again, it did a decent job entertaining me.

I think the critics are holding this to an unnecessarily high standard. As far as movies go that i have seen lately, this has been the funniest, and that includes Judd Apatow's latest, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. As far as movies go that i have seen lately, this has been the funniest, and that includes Judd Apatow's latest, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Apatow's was terrifically funny, don't get me wrong, but it lacked a certain relatability that i think Baby Mama possessed. This is not 30 Rock, and Tina Fey did not write this. i think critics are holding it to Fey standards, and no this is not a Tina Fey movie, it is a movie starring Tina Fey. that being said, i am a huge 30 Rock fan and still found this movie very enjoyable. This movie is what you think it is, it doesn't promise to be anything more. but it is a very good time. i recommend it over Forgetting Sarah Marshall. (though, if you have the time, i do think you should see that too). Expand

The director seems to have no semblance of an idea of how to properly time jokes. Most gags don't work and only Amy Pohler's character ever comes close to being likable. The majority of the movie feels like Tina Fey is personally scolding you. Maybe I'd feel better about this if it were a Lindsay Lohan movie or something else with no-talent actors. It's sad to consider just how much great talent (Martin, Hodgman, Kinnear, Weaver and shit, even Fey and Poehler) was wasted on nonsense characters here. Don't waste your time here folks, this film is the least amusing of the season. Probably not even worth watching on TV. Expand

About three good laughs through the entire movie- about the same as a 120 second skit on SNL. Should have stayed home and watched that. What a waste of great talent.

Bigger the audience, bigger the laughs. More surprises than most modern comedies. Professional critics don't like comedies much anyway, so they should be ignored on this genre.

Racist movie with a racist title. At first glance, I thought it must have been distributed by 20th Century Fox.

I don't know who Tina Fey is, nor do I care. She sucks as an actress and is in this stupid movie about nothing. Badly done in all respects. Not at all funny. Just dumb.

Tina Fey looks more like a writer than an Emmy-nominated actress for comedy, in "Baby Mama", a movie that the former-SNL Weekend Update anchor didn't write. Physical comedy, or improv, is definitely not her forte. Somebody like Steve Tina Fey looks more like a writer than an Emmy-nominated actress for comedy, in "Baby Mama", a movie that the former-SNL Weekend Update anchor didn't write. Physical comedy, or improv, is definitely not her forte. Somebody like Steve Martin, a former-standup comic, can work without a net. Fey, the surname, looks fey, the adjective, as she quavers her way through a performance-oriented video game, and especially at a night club, in which the filmmaker, leaves Fey and Amy Poehler to their own devices. As Angie Ostrowiski, the "baby mama", Poehler doesn't fare any better than her partner-in-crime. At first, she comes off as a "white-trash" caricature(in one scene, "Baby Mama" rips off Bobby and Peter Farrelly's best gag in "Kingpin"), but then the film pulls punches, so much so, there's hardly any comic contrast between Kate Holbrook(Fey) and Angie. For "Baby Mama" to work, Angie had to be the funny version of Juliette Lewis' character in Dominic Sena's "Kalifornia". Since "Baby Mama" isn't wise, or perceptive about surrogate motherhood, it should've gone buck-wild on the redneck jokes. Since it was written by a man, why pretend otherwise? Fey should take solace, however, in the fact that a fellow bespectacled writer wasn't very funny either, when he starred in Paul Mazursky's "Scenes from a Mall", a movie he didn't write. Call "Baby Mama" a learning curve for the hot creator(but not hotter than Lisa Loeb) of "30 Rock". The Tina Fey backlash doesn't start here. Expand

My rection to "Baby Mama" was decisively different. I loved this comedy. I laughed, many times heartedly, throughout. I was very surprised at the negative comments about the movie's comic timing, as if the jokes were there, but they were either shot and/or edited wrong. To me, the comic timing was the movie's strength, especially the rapport between Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And I thought the scene where Amy's pregnant character Angie was being wheeled into the hospital prior to her delivery, was insanely, perfectly funny. Certainly, I appreciated Steve Martin and Sigourney Weaver in their crucial supporting roles, as well as Dax Shepard and the inimitable Holland Taylor; but the movie, and the comedy, belongs to Fey and Poehler; and I thought they were as funny a comedy team as any I've ever seen, especially in this age of blatantly smarmy male-oriented "chuckle fests". One common thread among the reviews and commentaries focuses on the prior expectations of most of the reviewers, having seen both of these women many times on television, and particularly on 'Saturday Night Live'. My encounter with "Baby Mama" carried no previous baggage whatever -- I have long since stopped watching SNL, as well as most other television -- and my reactions to these two fabulous comediennes was fresh and unprepared. So I laughed. Long and hard. This is one of the best comedies I've seen on film, and I've been able to laugh along with the cinema since the 1950's. So if you haven't encountered "Baby Mama" as yet, or may be waiting for it on DVD, I strongly urge you to give it a chance, keep an open mind, and just go with what it offers -- great pleasure, and many chances to really laugh. Comedy's truly perfect pairing. I could sit and watch Tina Fey & Amy Poehler in Baby Mama all day long. Baby Mama is filled with smart laughs and backed with a substantial and meaningful story. This is what comedy was meant to be.
