A magical, adorable, extremely wonderful film. If you are remotely a music lover, this movie, despite the requirement to suspend belief at times, will touch you. The acting and music are superb.

When first time, I watch AUGUST RUSH, I just watch it, coz it is musical (Recently, I watched many musical, biopic, and war movies). In the end of movie, I realize thiz movie is so full-hearted. The Story is so simple but strong, I alwaysWhen first time, I watch AUGUST RUSH, I just watch it, coz it is musical (Recently, I watched many musical, biopic, and war movies). In the end of movie, I realize thiz movie is so full-hearted. The Story is so simple but strong, I always appreciate simple movie that can TALK a lot. It is a story about a boy to find his origin and meaning of his presence. Told beautifully in movie, the plot had some flashback and back to the present sequence. But do not worry, you will not confused by its method. The Wonder boy, Freddie Highmore, performs like usual with his innocence charisma. I Think Highmore is definitely lucky to always have a great movie he involves with. Another Actor that I appreciate very much in thiz movie is Jonathan Rhys Myers. Myers so likeable in thiz feature, His Role as a rock star gives him a cool-look. About the ending (Spoiler-Alert!), The movie ends with the scene: the father and mother just had been met for years, and they finally holding hands, They just saw their boy in front of them too, performs as conductor in orchestra concert. The boy even not knowing their parents see him. And the movie just ends that way. I am very much understand that is the perfect ending, coz that scene describes with beautiful and elegant way. It shows the meaning of HOPE could be better from now on, is so strong. Superb.

You should listen to the music. This movie is a well done romance with lots of good music and teardropping moments. But you never see him playing the guitare for real. If you are a very critical movie watcher, then you will probably not enjoy this movie. However, if you are just looking for a feel-good movie with some catchy guitar music, this movie is great.

Follow the music of the film right to the end because It does not tell a lie. This film was brilliantly acted and directed. The story does not fail and the music doesn't either. And No amount of critical panning can change that.

I can't understand why this movie was received badly ! For me, it's definitively one of the best movies ever ! Yes, the plot is a little bit unlikely... But a good story is rarely made of common events.
1. This is a movie about Music. It'sI can't understand why this movie was received badly ! For me, it's definitively one of the best movies ever ! Yes, the plot is a little bit unlikely... But a good story is rarely made of common events.
1. This is a movie about Music. It's not a matter of mysticism or things like that : it's a matter of faith. Someone believe that the music has a power, someone don't. It's like a religion, everyone has the right to believe in what he choose to believe.
2. There is a brilliant cast : I considerate Freddie Highmore as one the best boy-actor. Jonathan Rhys-Meyer is excellent, too, and he has a beautiful voice (perfect for the role). Keri Russell and Robin Williams are very different but both are heart-moving, in a different way.
3. We are very attached to those characters : the little prodigy of the music ; the guitarist, wasting his life with an other woman ; the cellist, who can't play anymore ; even the manipulator who just want to make money with children is captivating !
4. Some themes in this movie are beyond all description !! And I think it's not a movie about ONE thing, only : it's a friendship movie ; a romance ; a movie about music...
And if the message is that there is something about us who guides us, it's not a "pseudo-mysticism" movie, for all that. It's... well... like an other religion !!… Expand

Terribly underrated. Honestly the best movie of 2007. When i first heard of it, i thought, great, another forgettable romantic comedy. But it was much more than that. People really overexaggerate about it. It's not horrible or ok. It's excellent.

Critics take this too seriously! The point of a fairy tale is to capture the heart and hold it in your throat. Yes, its cheesy, but also captivating, romantic, and dreamily ironic! Sit back and enjoy the fairy tale, dont look deeper than need be!

The acting was disappointing, not a big fan of the love story either, but I love how a story of a child prodigy can make a great soundtrack fantastic and emotional. I don't watch a lot of movies, but this one almost had me in tears.

This was one of my favorite movies ever! Why the critics said Keri Russell and Myers didn't have chemistry is beyond me. We should all have a little bit of that fairy tale in our loves. I cried after all 5 times of watching it.

I absolutely loved this movie, and all my friends loved it as well (two of them are professional musicians and they loved the music). Freddie was a lovely young musical genius, I think he played his part very well, the movie was a pleasure I absolutely loved this movie, and all my friends loved it as well (two of them are professional musicians and they loved the music). I really enjoyed watching this movie and thought that it was pretty well done. I didn't find it too predictable and it wasn't perfect but all in all I found it to be a pretty good film. I just cant express to everyone my frustration with the critics these days. "kinky boots" and "the bucked list" were 2 great films that deserved at least an 8/10. I just want to scream. I cant even believe that 300 received a better overall rating that this movie.… Expand

This is an excellent movie... Beautiful. About fate, love, music, and beauty. Its about two exceptional musicians whome are brought together for one night by "true love" a tool which the gods of history sometimes use to craft exceptional people. Like the boy in this movie, A true musical prodigy that we have not seen for a verry long time, but which the world desperately needs. After the three musicians are seperated for 11 years, the music that connects them seems to be working to pull them back together again. I think the reason this movie got bad reviews is because some people, the type of people who are normal people that judge others, were not able to relate to this story. It is extremely improbable. Impossible for a normal person. Yet most of us are humble enough to see greatness, and not be envious of it. This is evident in disparity of the opinions of the critics, and the average Jo.… Expand

I enjoyed it. I liked the poetry it was trying for. I thought the music was fun and innovative. I am aware of many of the criticisms that can be madet about this film, but I still felt it worked. At least it did for me.

I LOVED this movie SO, SO, SO, SO much. When I saw it for the 1st time I was so in love with it. I wanted to cry, but I disn't. The ending was lovely, and throughout the whole move I was just babck and forth. I was like Astonished, then I LOVED this movie SO, SO, SO, SO much. While the movie is unrealistic, it is certainly more realistic that most other movies. That said, that movie was fantastic, inspirational, and incredibly convincing. One of the best I've ever seen.

Anyone who can appreciate the power of music will overlook the (incredible) schmaltz and go along for the ride. The score is great and Freddie Highmore gets better with each movie.

This really is an incredible film. Like the critics say it's a poetic fairy tale and you have to expand your belief but once you do that it's a beautiful film and the way you feel at the end is a great emotion.

Very nice movie. Having recently seen the critically acclaimed No Country for Old Men and wondering what happened to the ending, it is great to see a movie that simply entertains, gives you a sense of wonder and touches your heart.

One of the best movies I have seen, and I see lots of movies. Surprise that it was a clean movie. Music and the story one of the best. If one doesn't like emotional movies, this one is not the one to see.

I loved this movie! It really moved me and made me want to pick up my guitar more often. It is family friendly and is really uplifting and inspirational. I don't care if it's not realistic, this movie is magic.

August Rush does have many flaws, just like about ever movie... however I can't find myself disliking this movie one bit, because of how heartwarming it is!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't see August Rush when it came out eleven years ago. Then, the other night, my sister exclaimed in shock and surprise when I told her I'd never seen it. "You must," she said. So I did. And loved it. Those who give this movie a thumbs down are either jaded by reality TV/movies, or lack the spirit of hope and wonder that simplicity can bring to a weary spirit. Is August Rush hokey? I suppose it is in some parts, but can't life be a little hokey, too? Keri Russell was perfect as the sweet, innocent girl who is trapped in a world her over-protective stage-door father has created to showcase her classical musical gift. She lacks the spirit to fight him, but then isn't that often the way it really is? Many of us can relate to a parent who pushes and pushes and wants their child's success more than the child wants it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is equally perfect as the soulful rocker who just wants to find the true meaning of life, and love, and looks for it up on a rooftop above New York City. And finds it! I love the whimsical Van Morrison song chosen as the backdrop theme of the movie, and it's brilliant how August weaves it into his majestic symphony.The fact that other than a couple of great kisses there are no sex scenes(WHATTT???) is frankly quite refreshing. It's too easy to confuse love with lust, and the morning-after scene makes one believe there truly is love in their sleeping faces, and that what they'd found in each other's arms was far more than gratuitous sex. They clearly belong together. What follows is both frustrating and suspenseful, though more than a little predictable. In this case that's okay. As you watch the sadness and emptiness and longing of all three characters (Freddie is sweet and innocent and a reflection of his parents' own traits and gifts and talents) experience in their own way, and on their own, you pull for all of them. You WANT them to find each other. And as my daughter and I agree, here are three star-crossed people who you actually believe can have a successful and happy relationship. The ending could have been another Castaway (guy doesn't get girl) but it isn't. Yes, it's drippy sweet, but that's okay. Another word for that is HAPPY ENDING. There are no words at the movie's end, just lingering looks. You can read their minds: relief, at finding each other, wonder, at this amazing little boy they created, joy at being found, and love, love, love. You can see it all if you can put aside your cynicism that this just isn't real life and watch without judgment. But for those who can't stand fairy tales with happy endings, and need more raw stories with graphic sex, profanity, and jaded characters, you'd better pass on this one. As for me? I think I'll go watch it again...… Expand

The story begins with the meeting of two young, both musicians: he is the vocalist of a rock band that he formed together with the brothers; she is a rich, privileged girl who learned in the best schools and is now a cellist in an orchestra. Both live a night of love that will mark them forever, in spite of her being removed from him by a controlling father. Out of that love a son will be born, who is removed from the mother against her will and given up for adoption: Evan Taylor. Ten years later, he flees the orphans' home in search of his parents, following the music that his heart shows him, and that his prodigious skill for music makes him feel more strongly than anyone else.

The film is deeply touching and beautiful, and the whole story is engaging. I didn't even feel the time passed while watching the movie, and I was really stuck with the story. I felt that the film managed to make me care about the characters, the boy and the parents, and everything that could happen to them. The ending is excellent, and I really feel that you couldn't ask for more and better. Although the film, at certain moments, suggests that there is something supernatural behind the way Evan/August, in a way, makes music in the hope of being heard and identified by his parents, I did not understand it by this way: being the owner of a unique musical gift, he feels the music like none of us, so I saw nothing supernatural about it, just a magic that exists in the music itself, a magic that who knows how to play some kind of instrument and does it with pleasure will probably understand.

The cast has a good set of actors, all of them of great quality. The protagonism goes, of course, to the young Freddie Highmore, who presented us with an excellent and committed work. Today more mature and already with an interesting career, he took advantage of this film to come out as a young promise. Keri Russell was also perfect in the role of the young mother, in a job full of feeling and emotion. More restrained, Jonathan Rhys Meyers did very well in his role, and gave the character a touch of pleasant rebellion, with an interesting contrast to Russell's character (resulting in something like "lady and the tramp"). Robin Williams, an extraordinary actor, appears in the film with a supporting character, but is decisive in the course of the plot. It is not the best work of this actor, but it was a positive and well-succeeded effort.

Technically, the film is relatively discreet, betting more clearly on the performance of the cast and the story told. A smart bet, in my opinion. Cinematography is standard and does its job competently; the sets and costumes are very good. Personally, I think the old theater set was particularly good, as well as the costume worn by Robin Williams. I also appreciated the editing work and the use of discreet visual effects. However, it's the sound and the soundtrack that really deserve to be highlighted, for its beauty, musicality and originality. The film was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song (with the gospel melody "Raise It Up") but I think the entire soundtrack deserved a nomination.… Expand

This is an excellent movie I don't know why other review cynically,but it was a emotional ride with tears of joy at then. If you are a parent you would probably feel as I do about this movie its a 10 hands down.
