Haunted by the past, and so refusing to sail on.

The most of the people does not aware of this movie's existence. The only reason I went for it was Brittany Robertson. She's been around, but for the first time I noticed her in a major role was in 'The First Time'. Ever since I kind of liked her, so I had no reason to skip it despite whatever the response it got.

Based on the book named 'Undiscovered Gyrl'. After finish watching this I felt the original title should have been borrowed instead, because that seems veracious to the narration. The story of a 18 year old girl who decides to blog in a fake name to hide her identity from family, friends and other known people. Because she wanted to write the whole truth about her life, especially to share her dark secrets. But is it safe to let the world know what kind of person she is?

The main character was confused between sex and relationship, and so the way it gets us as well. Mainly because of her haunting past. When it enters the final quarter, you probably won't remember the earlier events. The screenplay is not being perceptive, but had a bold plan to bring the curtain in a style. It was an unexpected twist that will make you go awe, but the biggest relief is it was only a fictional inspired by the reality of the internet culture the youngsters live-in everyday.

"It's like we all want to be famous,
even though we're not good at anything."

From her all the major characters so far, this one was the best Britt ever got to express deeply. The plot relies too much on the sexual journey, but there's no strong and disturbing scenes other than a couple of nude scenes. That does not approve teens to watch it, except the matured ones. Because of the movie theme I was hesitating in the initial parts and because of the ending I kind of liked entire film. One small twist changes the viewpoint of the whole narration. Remember, it perfectly imitated the web world as well.

The whole film was like a mathematical problem where one character stand in the middle and connects with four others directly. It's not going to solve it, but gives the formula to you do it and ends hinting with many possibilities. It does not make sure viewers understand it, but either way everything you predict is right as well as wrong. The significance of the storytelling was clear, that is to be a practical about the questions that never answered in the real world. You have to take all the clues and put together, because it all connected to main character's childhood. But still debate remains at the conclusion and so that is the way it is.

Frankly, I did not like the movie from the beginning till the final scene. I thought it was better than the average, certainly not a bad movie. But after the movie, between the watch and this review, during recollecting bit by bit about the movie's purpose, I realised it was being rational in many perspectives, about social media and its safety. This film equals to the those real stories, all the credits must go to the author who is also the screenwriter and director of the film. I feel it is underrated, if you are a regular blog reader of mine, then you may know when I say definitely not to miss.

This movie is marked by cowardice. This what you get if you get a former Disney princess like Robertson to be the lead: She's not a bad actress, but neither is she very impressive. She doesn't take risks. This is not surprising from someone who comes from a very conservative, North Carolina, seven children household. Nowhere is this gutlessness more symbolic in Robertsons stingy blink-and-you'll-miss-it nude shots (can't hardly call them 'scenes') which come to a sum total of 5.214 seconds in a 1:38:41 movie or 0,0881%. for fast arithmeticers and yes, the first nude shot is even in a shady darkened room, even. At 23, one expects a girl wanting to shed the Disney image to be braver. Her only female friend, played by Gia Mantegna, who is one day older than her, almost seems braver in that she does do a full frontal, but it is fully out of focus, so no.

The whole movie is like that, a parade of almost but not quite. Near the end of the movie, we keep thinking, oh, this is totally gonna be a Disney ending of life lessons well learned, etc. There's even a chance that for the The First TIme Ever in American Cinema, an abortion would be described as something positive as something necessary and totally normal for American women to do. But alas, the writer lacked the courage to make a stand, takes the fifth on the whole abortion thing by pulling a completely unrealistic grim ending out of her butt. Think the Vanishing, but with the ending of the orginal Dutch film.
It's clear that she wanted to have a Fight Club twist ending, but failed utterly. Instead we get this spineless, gutless "I-know-I-should-get-an-abortion-but-I'm-too-yelly-belly-to-say-so-out-loud" escape trick.
It was as if the writer thought: "Yes, I know abortion is the only way to end this movie with some bravery, but hey let's go with the Silence of the Lambs stuff because that will get me less criticism from the folks back in Idaho." In this, she's not wrong. ReichWing red staters scream bloody murder (literally) when it comes to abortion, but when it comes to kidnapping, raping and murdering young women ... that's just life, let's by all means shrug that off. This movie SEEMS edgy, but in fact is FAKE edgy. Lifetime/Hallmark movies are more sincere, at least there you KNOW it's crap. and they don't pretend to be otherwise. In this, it's exactly as gutless like Juno, only with a more bland lead.
I hope Robertson will be braver next time, as in going against the establishment of Thou Shalt Never Commit Abortion in Hollywood Movies, but I kind of doubt it. She will get good reviews for this one, since tout Hollywood shares this movies lily-liveredness. The days of "liberal media" are long gone, if they ever existed. She's not the next Sarah Polley or Michelle Williams. She's more like a poor man's Chloe Moretz. Very, very poor man.

This is not a comedy, however, I would have been pleasantly surprised if this movie ended up being as deep as it was going for. It's not and neither are it's characters. The main actress plays an offensive and insolent character who does little to help herself or other women suffering from the main conflict, which I think is meant to be sexual abuse. I found the main character to be arrogant at times and unrelatable, she never really confronts the harsh topic at hand in a meaningful way. She makes poor choices (her poor choices inevitably lead this movie) that are made to look like the result of her past sexual abuse. The surrounding characters are as shallow and one-dimensional as the atmosphere of this movie and only serve the purpose of making you sympathize with the main character. But what I disliked most about this movie was the ending that is confusing and fools you into thinking the story is based off of real events when it's not. The ending really does the most damage to the movie because it ruins the tone of the movie and leaves it's message muddled. Is this movie meant to scare young women from making poor decisions? is it supposed to make you sympathize with victims of abuse? Is the ending meant to be left open ended for the viewers? All I know upon leaving this movie is that I was better off not watching it. overall I found this movie to be offensive to people who have actually suffered sexual abuse. especially the part where she says "he touched me but it felt good" Really? what the hell were they thinking.
