The extra scenes add massive drag to an otherwise epic film, making it feel too self-indulgent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I guess I had to see this 153-min classic movie. 153 min long. That's some time investment.
Can't deny that some takes are as amazing as powerfully evocative. Colours and brighness add a precious dimension to the feature. Visuals are particularly terrific and ahead of their times. We feel the urgency and the intensity of these scenes that we are led to see.
Characters are interesting even if some way less than others. The whole sequence with the French table, in particular, seems superficial to the plot. Fortunately, Aurore Clément (Roxanne Sarrault) is here to make us all breathe a cup of fresh air.
The quality of the acting is also disparate, uneven. Where Albert Hall
(Chief Phillips) does bring the plot a rhythm and a series of varied relations, Martin Sheen (Captain Benjamin L. Willard) seems to have only one facial emotion during the whole movie. Marlon Brando (Colonel Walter E. Kurtz) only lies in the shadows as its character remains as obscure as eventually disappointing. In overall, I found that 'Apocalypse Now Redux' lacked of meaningful interactions and dialogues, including with Sam Bottoms (Lance Johnson) that remains one of the few characters that survived .that messy story.
The soundtrack is wonderful and directly brings us to that particular period of time. It also allows the film to illustrate such dark historical periods in a questionable conflict.
I still remain very amazed by the way that 'Apocalypse Now Redux' manages to show us spectators varied aspects of the war : from the frontline to the camps and during the team movements.
