Analyze this is as funny as Meet The Parents. Deniro parodies himself again, he mocks his mafia image
and the result are brilliant and hilarious. Crystal is also very funny as his shrink who is coerced into
treating him.

DeNiro can't get any funnier. Joe Viterelli adds so much to every scene and Billy Crystal is Billy Crystal. Fun to watch over and over. When Paul Vitti shoots the pillow ... it is just plain f unny.

Analyze This is an incredibly funny film that is pretty much what it sound like it would be about. A tough, hard-nosed, and oldAnalyze This is an incredibly funny film that is pretty much what it sound like it would be about. Starring Billy Crystal as Ben Sobel, a psychiatrist, the film pairs him together with Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro). A tough, hard-nosed, and old school gangster, he is having panic attacks stemming from a threat to his life that brings back memories of his father's murder. In a funny and witty comedy, the film pairs the comedic talents of Crystal with the tough guy nature of De Niro resulting in a perfect setup of comedic foils. Thanks to fun writing from Harold Ramis and Kenneth Lonergan, the film may not be serious, but it makes the most of its premise and really works well. It may be thin and referential to gangster movies, but the film entertains and makes you laugh for the entire runtime.

With irresistible chemistry, Crystal plays the man entrusted to break through the tough guy facade of Paul Vitti. Unfortunately, it comes at the time when he is set to be married to Laura (Lisa Kudrow) in Florida. With Paul following him from New York, he is forced to try and work his magic to figure out what ails this man. Suffering from panic attacks and fits of crying, Vitti is risking being killed due to this weakness. He can hear the footsteps and keeps sending his friend Jelly (Joe Vierelli) to go find the doc, regardless of what stage of getting married he finds himself in. Even worse, gangster Primo Sindone (Chazz Palminteri) wants Paul dead and the mafia, once they find out about the psychiatrist, want Ben dead. What ensues is a pretty predictable and run-of-the-mill comedy that finds humor out of making a gangster soft and a psychiatrist into a gun toting tough guy. Yet, it works.

Crystal and De Niro's chemistry is what sells this one as Crystal smart, witty, and mouthy comedic style really works in this film. De Niro is equally good in his role as a remorseful gangster that does not want to leave his son without a father or see him follow a life as a gangster. Yet, the film does exist on a higher plain to a degree as it examines and breaks down the tough guy facade. In reality, it is merely a copping mechanism to shelter their fragile psyches from being hurt. Or, they are just psycho. The latter obviously being far more dangerous. In the case of Paul Vitti, he just acts out of anger and desperation after being left to fend for himself after his father is killed. Thus, though the film is simply straight forward fun, Ramis and Lonergan manage to make the film have a little more depth in this area. In this blending of their two worlds, the two men are able to learn from one another. Ben Sobel learns to stand up for himself and not take abuse. Paul Vitti learns that being emotional and expressing your feelings does not make you weak. For a silly comedy that is just a twist on the buddy comedy formula, it does provide very well-written characters with solid, well-defined arcs and with purposeful actions in this film.

Honestly, however, there is not much to say about this one. Even what I have written is a bit of a stretch. Bottom line: Analyze This is hysterical. Billy Crystal is Billy Crystal and De Niro turns in one of his funnier performances of his late comedy-focused period. With good writing, great jokes, and terrific comedic timing and delivery from its cast, Analyze This is one of those films that is easy entertainment and will have you laughing throughout.

Dr. Ben Sobel: You don't remember?

Boss Paul Vitti: It was 35 years ago.

Dr. Ben Sobel: What was your father eating?

Boss Paul Vitti: I don't remember. What are you talking about?

Dr. Ben Sobel: It's a simple question. What was your father eating?

Boss Paul Vitti: ...Penne.

Dr. Ben Sobel: Good. What did you have?

Boss Paul Vitti: Ravioli.

Dr. Ben Sobel: The food was already on the table?

Boss Paul Vitti: No, they were serving it.

Dr. Ben Sobel: And did you see the guys coming?

Boss Paul Vitti: One of them. Dressed like a busboy.

Dr. Ben Sobel: Your father saw him too?

I let him die, and I couldn't say goodbye to him!

Not exactly hysterical, but very funny without a doubt. Strangely De Niro provides most of the laughs instead of the comedian Billy Crystal. However one of the mobsters henchmen named Jelly is the most likable and entertaining of the whole cast. I wish the actor Joe Viterelli appeared in more movies so that he might be more well known, he is strangely funny without telling many jokes. Some scenes were unfortunately laugh free, Lisa Kudrow's character seriously reminds me of Skyler from Breaking Bad, all she ever does is moan and spoil Crystal's characters fun. A very entertaining, but no more than satisfactory comedy which will definitely make you laugh but not a great deal Expand

Robert De Niro hams it up as a gang boss with a few in jokes here & there. Nice to see him taking the piss out of himself.
Billy Crystal plays the straight man &, despite it being a bit weak at the end, a pretty funny film.

What a waste of time this overly praised claptrap is. If there's any genuine humor to be found here, I'm afraid it eluded me. Every now and then DeNiro and Crystal stop playing DeNiro and Crystal. Alas, this is not one of those times.

Therefore in order to solve the crisis, he visits a shrink, Dr. Ben Sobel (Chrystal), for treatment.

Family Over Fear.

Analyze This

Ramis's fired jokes are much more of a threat to the protagonist than the gun itself. Drawing out the most simplest concept of fear, the movie soars as much as it dives deep into this eerie relationship. Representing opposite side of the emotions, the chemistry between the lead cast is surprisingly good. Walking entirely on the arena of irony, this blatantly honest tale has all its conversation spoken with hesitation, whether it be then Crystal because of fear or De Niro for his narrow minded enclosed persona. Another major factor that elevates the effervescence of the plot is its ferocious pace and layered screenplay that is peeled on with light humor and caring nature.

And it is that caring nature of those characters that absorbs you into their hilarious sessions. The makers also uses the reputation of the cast wisely in order to squeeze out as much as laugh as they can, like the enactment of the infamous scene of The Godfather. There aren't much gags to carry on, as it is kept to the point, but the sort-of-assistants of De Niro when are ordered to recruit Crystal is a gag that stays similar and still works throughout the course.

De Niro can also be a comic player with brilliant comic timing. Not every actor can pull of such roles especially when their teeth are sink in, on drama like such. But De Niro is still able to challenge his opponent Crystal, though he is no match in front of him. Frankly, Crystal has got an upper hand on this tale, his character evolves much more than any other with three dimensional perspective and cut throat sarcasm, he steals the show; especially the last speech. Analyze This surfs more on a merryland and the makers make sure you have got no right to object that.

The funniest? See Robert De Niro repeating his best mobster performances; now like one on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Billy Crystal is also likeable in his role as a psychiatrist. To enjoy without more pretensions in a weekend.

Boss Paul Vitti: Nah, you start with the pills, the next thing you know you're putting in hydraulics. A hard-on should be achieved legitimately or it shouldn't be achieved at all.

Typical Billy Crystal movie, with Robert DiNiro pumping out the dialogue and Billy making the barely audible humerous quips. Gotta be in the mood for this type of movie. If so, it's great. Rating the movie as plot, actors, and script, it's good.
