It's a void with no attention to detail or complexity, no instead it jumps through plot points carried by unconvincing performances from Common who has the charisma of drying paint . Keke Palmer invest herself into her role with an admirable dedication but nevertheless it fails to convey the life altering seriousness of this interesting predicament. I wish this idea had been handled by a competent director/screenwriter in the likes of Peele or McQueen because the plot should make for riveting television. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I initially thought Alice would be more of a time travel/ sci-fi type film when I read about it after its premiere at Sundance last year. Can't say I'm disappointed, this movie is a pretty okay B drama/thriller with an interesting premise. Expand

However, this film turns it on it's head, where the slaves have no idea that there is a modern world out there. They believe that they are in the 1800's(We are never told how). The premise of this film is so salivating. However, the execution is so terrible that all it does is inspire frustration.

How someone who goes from living on a plantation as a slave in the 1800's finds herself in the 1970's and yet seems to settle in without even slightly losing her mind, is bizarre, to say the least. There's no exploration of how 1970's America would be a complete shock to her. I could go on about what a missed opportunity this film is. But I'd just frustrate myself worse than this film did.

Such bad storytelling should be illegal. It's so bad and implausible, it puts Tyler Perry to shame. Whoever made this film shouldn't be allowed to make another film ever again!
