It's watchable but that's about it. It isn't going to blow your mind. Sure, the staff is talented but the characters and story are uninteresting

This sounds boring on paper but the witty and fun script by Alex Convery (in his writing debut!) keeps the movie from ever being dull. The cast also gives a funny and lively performance while also having great chemistry. Special mention to Viola Davis as Michael's Mother who gives a very strong performance.

The movie does feel like a glorified ad for Nike though and none of the characters have real character arcs or development. It also makes a weird choice of not showing Michael's face which is more distracting than anything else.

Overall, it's a very entertaining biographical sports drama film. It made a movie about budgets and spending somehow the most interesting film ever. Missed opportunity to call this film a 4 letter word though. If you watch the movie, you know what I mean.

Instead it's about the agents and execs behind the idea. They barely go into how they came up with the shoe. It's just a black and red shoe, according to the movie. There's a scene where Damon's character makes a speech for Michael Jordan to convince him to sign the deal. It's meant to evoke emotion instead it just falls flat and is manipulative.

In short, for a film with a predictable outcome, they tell it like the ending will surprise the audience. Bizarre.

Despite all the slow part and nit picky here and there, i found Air as something that i probably will love it even more after i rewatch the film, but as of right now i think Air was still a very solid biopic movie that are well directed, well paced, well performed, and straight to the point, it is in a way again despite the slow part that i felt couple of time and more, for a 1 hour and 52 minutes movie it felt quite fast, because the story just kept getting more engaging as the time goes, the soundtrack of the film was also great, i love it, great editing also, and overall Air was really an inspiring movie especially if you don't really know the whole story there is this moment where it feels like you were part of the negotiation and even though you kinda know what happen in the end, it feels like it doesn't, anyway, Air was overall a pretty solid straight to the point inspiring biopic that's definitely a must see, not only for all Basketball people but for everybody.

Awe, in a way that gave me chill bumps and that kind of impact set in motion from a movie is rarely met, but Ben Affleck did a great job directing this movie and the cast is on-point across the board. The story has some incredible facets showing how greatness can connect and transcend distances, classes, and unite so many walks of life because of tenacity, and the spine to go forward without any inhibitions to seize life for what you know it can be despite what every naysayer may say and how that alone is one of the most powerful messages humanity can ever be told. Over and over this movie shows that lesson and how beautiful a dream backed by people with sheer willpower can be manifested to impact the lives of millions of people worldwide in a positive and uniting way. This is a legendary movie that everyone owes it to themselves to see. You will not be disappointed,

"Just do it."

Performances are quite good, although the characters are not that engaging.

Not only is this gripping and engaging for both sneakerheads and NBA fans alike, but it's unequivocally hilarious and enthralling, with enough for any admirer of underdog stories to sink their teeth into. As ever, Damon and Affleck are magnetic onscreen together, but don't discount the rest of this supporting cast — namely, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina and Chris Tucker. I honestly wish this came out much later in the year, as I feel this has such clear awards season potential and is one of the year's best thus far. A clear must-watch. Expand

The idea is good: it is not so common to show a movie about a business deal. And in addition we have famous actors in it, who acted greatly. Also they catched the 80s very well, for example with top music.

But somehow it didnt catch me, there is not enough content in my view, so the movie felt slow. Maybe they could show us more about the development after the deal and if there were some troubles and how they deal with that. In addition we know the result: We know, that Nike worked with Jordan and he became the best basketball player of all time.

The speech Matt Damon's character gives to Michael Jordan about how a shoe is just a shoe until someone puts it on is basically a speech that also serves to encapsulate the overall message of this film.

I mean, Air is not just a movie about a shoe, but at the same time it is, because at the end of the day, beyond the motivational and inspirational angle of its plot, Air represents a story that millions of people are passionate about.
A story in which there were many risks and constant pressure to achieve the desired result and when the success comes it is much greater than they had anticipated.

We are seeing real people who worked hard and their hard work paid off incredibly well. Americans love that **** and this story represents it perfectly.

Air is a relatively straightforward film, but Ben Affleck assembles an impressive cast and while all have proportionately modest roles, with the exception of Matt Damon, they all have a part to play in the ensemble and it is they who lend a more distinctive quality to this story.

Affleck continues to live under the shadow of The Town and especially Argo. He's a limited director but he knows what he's doing and manages to bring this story to fruition.
It may not mean much in the long run depending on how much his credits grow as a filmmaker, but in my opinion, he delivered a more than acceptable film.

Affleck and Damon already won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in '98, when Ben was 25 and Matt 27. Today, twice as old, they wanted to aim for a more adult story. They don't care about sports drama at all but neither about Nike's commercial success, rather the way it was achieved. The titles of some songs included in the soundtrack would be enough to understand it: "Money for Nothing" (Dire Straits '85), "Born in the U.S.A." with its lyrics explained during the film, and "Love on a Real Train" not because a fantastic composition by Tangerine Dream but because, as written on the end credits), it is the version taken from the OST of "Risky Business" (Paul Brickman '83). "Air" celebrates an almost incomprehensible contrast for those in the Old Continent who have had the opportunity to experience the welfare guaranteed by social democracy: that between the Reagan's neoliberalism and Obama's one (in Great Britain: between Thatcher's economic policy and Blair's one). By acting in accordance with the 2nd typology, they would have saved the world from none other than the Orwellian "1984" (shown in the opening sequence when Ridley Scott used it for the Macintosh ads launch. The two friends have also become narratively heavier: abolished any action scene, the entire movie tries to stand on words by imitating a rather soporific Sorkin-style writing.
