If anything, he nailed it in terms of physical facial expressions, body behavior and voice tone levels to reflect the realism of his character. Also, seeing Donald Sutherland/Tommy Lee Jones in the same movie like Space Cowboys was pretty damn cool and meshed well.

I hope we get to see more of these talented actors teaming up in again

This story resonates to a 2nd and 3rd viewing. I always go in wanting to not like a Brad Pitt movie and end up always amazed at his ability to get me hooked on the story.

Had some corny moments but the intrigue carries you through the whole movie. A good movie but not the best movie. Great work to Brad Pitt - Strong Performance as usual but still not his best work

Awesome movie. It's almost same the Interstellar. The film is full of meaning, drama. The actors played great. The team working on the film is especially grateful.

A beautiful portrayal of that sad reality.

However, the movie totally doesn't explain the cause of the big problem that our hero is trying to solve and how really it's causing such devastating effects across the galaxy. That unanswered question really does leave you feeling robbed by the movie.

Often felt to me like I was watching a space-age version of Apocolypse Now. Beautifully shot, weighted just about perfectly as a character study (of Brad Pitt's character), plus I thought that Pitt, just like Martin Sheen in FF Coppola's classic, carried the whole venture, and us with it, along fantastically. What could go wrong? Well the answer here is the writing. Whoever it was that authored this plot spent far too much time smelling his own farts and posturing as deep and philosophical, because in reality, the move is extremely shallow. The plot and direction really waste the clearly expert special effects artists and talent of the actors in the film. Boring, snobby movie that is convinced that it's the greatest thing of all time, when it quite obviously isn't. Expand

A great movie until the last half hour. Completely flubbed the ending. Could have been so much better with another 30 mins added and a more fleshed out conclusion.

On a minor note, the science of space and spaceflight is a not very accurate, and the economic plausibility is not very beleivable . Which is a shame given that it wants to be in the club of movies like 'Gravity' and 'Interstellar' that take the science seriously.

Has some good scenes and visuals but is mostly a pretentious, tedious, wannabe-Terrence Malick film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was actually somewhat enjoying this movie until the main character magically jumps from one spacestation to another through Neptune's rings, uses a nuclear explosion to accurately propel his ship back to earth, then finds enlightenment and inner peace out of nowhere. Worst ending to a movie I have seen in a long time. Expand

Very little to add to what has already been said and written. The aporia of a successful psychoanalytic session and "Heart of Loneliness", Conrad or Coppola from the odyssey in the inner space to that in the deep space, between Antonioni, Tarkovskij and Malick. The conclusion changes: instead of "The horror! The horror!", "The boredom! The boredom!". Perhaps metaphysically more appropriate, but in this case totally involuntary. Glad the box-office flop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie has some giant plotholes and unnecessary scenes.
The characters are completely undefined.
Brad Pitt most of the time shows no emotion at all but suddenly he screams or cries.
The physics in this movie are even worse.
Rockets don’t use their engines continuously and in space water like substances aren’t liquid in real life.
It can’t compete with movies like The Martian or interstellar.

A sensory slow burn with beautiful imagery and score but a plot that could've been done in half the time. Some new set pieces for a film in the space adventure genre, but one was particularly defiant of basic physics... That just de-immersed me for a second. It also doesn't particularly help a slow burn plot when your main character is written as cold and reserved (ex: Captain Marvel). Not bad, not great. Expand

Ad Astra is a fairly mediocre science fiction film.
Although the premise is interesting, the film lacks substance and ultimately proves, without making spoilers, disappointing. The technical aspects of the film are impeccable, the cinematography is excellent, and there are some great shots and sequences. However, as I have already said, the plot is just so disappointing that in the end I felt really unsatisfied.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story in this movie is utterly pointless and completely unrealistic (spoilers ahead). Somehow antimatter is leaking from a ship and that's making neptune blast out cosmic rays which can destroy the solar system. What?!? Did anyone bother to maybe just speak to a scientist just a little bit?

But ok, if that's ok with you, the entire movie involves random people who have nothing to do with the plot, dying in horrible accidents that have nothing to do with the plot (how about a monkey eating a guys face off on a space station floating in the asteroid belt somewhere). All while Brad Pitt is taking a pointless trip to mars to send a broadcast to his dad (Tommy Lee Jones), whom he hasn't seen in 15-20 years, because for some reason he couldn't just record a message from earth. After his pointless trip to mars, he takes a pointless trip to neptune, but accidentally kills the entire crew of the ship. Which means he takes the trip alone, which means we have a lot of pointless shots of Pitt acting all emotionally distressed at being alone. And when he finally sees his dad again after 15-20 years, they have a brief conversation while Pitt sets up a nuclear bomb to stop the antimatter leak. And then Jones decides he'd rather die alone floating in space. So Pitt then hops back in his empty ship and takes another long lonely trip back home. The end.

This movie had no interesting twists or anything at all to what barely amounts to a plot. One positive thing I can say is the acting was good. This is basically a movie about Brad Pitt dealing with his repressed emotions and daddy issues. But this was just a really crappy story to try and explore that.

Boring movie with no coherent plot. It's a space trip from one planet to another where very little happens and most of the time it's the main character talking to himself.
