Taut and dark, with a spectacular performance by Clarke. Her accent, criticized by some reviewers as insufficiently "southern," is in fact dead-on southern Appalachian. The movie reflects the brooding Kentucky coal-town scene with clarity.

I am from pikeville, Ky. Whilst another reviewer claims they do indeed speak like a southern Appalachian in this film. I can assure you they do not. It isn’t long and drawn out enough. I can assure you they do not. It isn’t long and drawn out enough. Words are pronounced different. One main giveaway is how “I” is pronounced. Even if they pronounce it “correctly” the draw would still be there and incredibly noticeable. Of course I’m going to watch anything pertaining to the area I am from. With that said, it is hard to watch mainly because of that. If you’re going to portray you’re from somewhere, you should at least get the accent right. If you aren’t from the area, I guess one could think it sounds “correct@… Expand
